they really dont wanna just admit that the brother is out for the season huh

wishing the best for him of course, but i really dont expect him back this year

  2. legend023

    “Procedure”: empowering

“Surgery”: put on a shirt mf

  3. Salvalicious252

Bro he’s out for the season, stop this bullshit.

  4. somehow it’s still up in the air whether he got the meniscus repaired, or trimmed

  5. ivandragostwin

Rest up big man, really hope we get to see him healthy in the playoffs.

  6. josh-dmww

If I ever get my hands on whoever is in charge of all this 76ers’ legalese, I’ll be in trouble.

  7. Freidehr

They gave some good money to all these reporters man, cuz this phrasing is funny, and everyone is saying the exact same thing

  8. I_Set_3_Alarms

Damn, no trade updates from Woj. Just stats and injury updates

  9. Sixers try not to rule out Embiid for the season challenge (impossible)

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid underwent a surgery to repair his torn left meniscus and will miss the remainder of the season

  11. MrBuckBuck

So they cut his left meniscus out?
    I don’t fully get it.

Sounds painful in the long run and dangerous.

I wish him well though, with a full and speedy recovery.

  12. Lacabloodclot9

People saying just declare him out for the season, Embiid himself is probably doing everything in his power to try and come back before the post season even if it doesn’t mean the best for his long term prospects

  13. _canadianbacon

I’m honestly shocked they said 4 weeks instead of 2 fortnights

  14. PusseySleigher

“Left meniscus procedure” uhhh like massaging it? He’ll be back in a week then!

  15. IAmStevenKwanAMA

The absolute refusal to actually say anything of substance regarding his injury is so obnoxious

  16. MusicListener3

    Two possibilities here:

    1. They got into the OR and found that his injury was in a poorly vascularized part of the meniscus, such that they shaved part of it and he’ll be back much more quickly than with a full repair (albeit with a shorter shelf life and likely more pain in the long term).

    2. This is more smoke and mirrors from the Sixers’ medical staff and they know he’s out for the year after a full repair.

  17. nbaistheworst

I guess that means a trim and not a reconstruction. My sincere best wishes for a full recovery!

  18. Ok-Clock-5459

Those cornballs were acting like it was going to be a massive absence but it’s the best case scenario possible lmao

  19. FudgeBomb

Classic Philly front office, all smoke and mirrors to keep the ticket sales up

  20. CourtConspirator

Had it been confirmed which procedure he actually had done? (Repair vs remove?)

  21. Calm_Green3821

Remember when everyone was pissed at Joel for skipping the Denver game? And it turns out he needs surgery.

  22. NoobPwnr

I’ve been the at-home nurse for two of my wife’s meniscus surgeries.

Sorry Sixers. Embiid is out for the season.

Edit: unfortunately downvoting does not heal knees 💔

  23. KillerZaWarudo

Embiid gonna change the narrative of him being injured and underperform come playoffs time by playing injured and underperform during the playoffs for another year

  24. FireFoxTres

Ngl, kinda bummed we can’t get to say Real MVPeed in the future

  25. Hoyarugby

thanks nba, really glad it was worth it to get a hurt embiid to play in a 10pm game against an opponent not in the east

  26. JeremyJammDDS

This is his third meniscus injury, second in his left(rookie year).

  27. iAm-Tyson

Rushing back an all-time great player is super sketchy.

I understand wanting to win a championship, and build your legacy but when has coming back early from this ever worked out. It never does, and it’d be a shame if this turns into the end for Embiids career.

Just ask Rob Williams how triming the meniscus and coming back weeks later works. It takes time, especially someone at Embiids caliber, it was painful enough seeing him limp around the 2nd round last year.

  28. After 4 weeks there will be another 4 weeks. Bet

  29. bush_league_commish

Reevaluated in 4 weeks, best case scenario including ramp up probably puts him at mid-March? Another 3 weeks of games to get back in shape and stay in the playoff picture. Definitely doable but they’re gonna need a lot of help around Maxey to stay out of the play-in. His stats are not good without Embiid.

  30. Beatdooown

At least he doesn’t have to fake not playing in Denver now to avoid Jokic he can just openly say I’m not playing in high altitude and nobody will care now since he’s out of the MVP race. Hopefully he stops floundering on the floor and being a free throw merchant as well so we can get more years of greatness from him rather then shorting his career taking unneeded impact.

  31. steve1186

Great, now the MVP for Jokic, Luka, Giannis, Tatum, or SGA is going to come with an asterisk

  32. Talking heads going to note every game against an MVP candidate until he comes back. “Joel is ducking competition again…”

  33. Big_Strength5308

Why aren’t they stating the obvious? Season ending surgery…

  34. KayRay1994

Sucks to see, dude was having an incredible season. That being said, 4 weeks is either if his recovery is rushed or if he recovers very quickly – I expect 6-8 realistically

  35. dustinharm

Surgeries are almost always referred to as procedures in these announcements, there is nothing remotely weird about this phrasing other than reaching very hard to pretend it’s suspicious because Philly…
