‘SHUT EMBIID DOWN FOR THE SEASON!’ Perk reacts to injury update and return timeline 👀 | First Take
W tweeting this Philadelphia 76er star Joel embiid underwent a left miniscus procedure on Tuesday it will be reevaluated in approximately four weeks in a second tweet he said how embiid’s recovery goes over the next few weeks will be Paramount but there continues to be a belief that the door is not closed
On the possibility of the reigning MVP’s return this season source is telling that to ESPN on that note I bring in our Brian windhorse Wendy good morning good morning and Kendrick Perkins as well hey perk great to see you both what’s up Mar Wendy what’s your reaction to the latest
On embiid okay so this what could be termed as good news for the Sixers because they’re basically saying they’re going to take a look at him again in a month now it doesn’t mean he will be back in a month it means that they’re going to evaluate him in a month but if
This was a full miniscus repair and the Sixers did not say what type of procedure this was they just said that there was a procedure but the fact that they’re using this month-long timeline indicates that it was a meniscus ectomy or part of the meniscus was removed instead of being repaired and without
Going into stuff I don’t fully understand that leaves the door open for a quicker recovery if he would had had had a repair in all likelihood he would have been out for the season today so definitely interesting information for the Sixers going forward and will affect
Now that they know how the surgeon did the the procedure will affect how they approach the deadline on Thursday as they operate under the possibility and you know I don’t think it should be assured because he was a large man with a history of knee issues but the
Possibility he could come back and that could affect the way they approach that deadline they need to shut him down for the season it shouldn’t be re-evaluating him in in four weeks we’re talking about a guy that is 7 foot 285 20 95 pounds
That has the workload of a guy of a size of a a job Morant or or a Steph Curry the way that he has to carry this team I’m looking at their next nine games eight of those nine games they got two against the Cavs who has been playing
Exceptionally well the Celtics the Knicks um you you have so many the Bucks are on that schedule as well and I’m looking at it I’m saying to myself why Rush him back like we know his history we know going on with his help and so my
Thing is I’m going to stand on this Molly and Wy I was look I said this a week ago and I was called Everything But A Child of God for saying it shut him down for the season let the guys run it out you know resign Max in offseason you
Got all the Cal space and give it a go for next season even if he comes back he’s still going to take time for the big fella to ramp things up and then we’re going to be going into April the most crucial part of the NBA season right into the the playin tournament
Right into the postseason highlevel basketball and with his history I wouldn’t chance it if I’m the Philadelphia 76 I just would Wendy what’s your response to that yeah sen perk you could be right and that could be exactly what happens I just don’t think that decision is being made today
I think that’s something that Joelle see has to see how he feels for the next month let’s see how the team plays for the next month let’s see what happens in the Eastern Conference for the next month who plays well who stays healthy who doesn’t I you perk I don’t think
You’re wrong in that and Molly I tell this story all the time perk was on the sidelines with me game five 2019 finals begging Kevin Durant not to play and an hour later he tore his Achilles so I I respect what perk says I just think
There’s no need to do that today perk today potentially could be a good day for the Sixers and Joel perk let me ask you this before we move on to the Lakers I’m just curious if embiid was healthy how far do you think this Philly team
Could realistically go in the East CU we know it’s loaded oh oh seriously they could they could go to the finals they could go to the finals with the way that Joel and be was playing Molly and the way that the East is looking right now
The Bucks unless they make a change at the perimeter and get some athleticism for as being able to defend I could see them going out in the second round and to be honest with you I think the dep of the Philadelphia 76ers is so underrated when healthy when you look at what
DeAnthony Melton was bring to bringing to the table Nicholas baton and so it was fitting perfectly around Joel and B with Tobias Harris balling as that third option they absolutely could have went to the NBA they absolutely could go to the NBA finals if embiid was still out There
On First Take, Brian Windhorst and Kendrick Perkins join Molly Qerim to react to breaking news that Philadelphia 76ers’ Joel Embiid will undergo a knee procedure and will be out for at least four weeks and discuss if he should make a return this season.

Perk’s heavy breathing like a water buffalo is much worse than embiid’s injury.
Embiid is the only player in the league who has doctor's notes written years in advance.
To everyone reading this Keep going. No matter how stuck you feel, no matter how bad things are right now, no matter how hopeless & depressed you feel, no matter how many days you have spent wishing things were different. I promise you won't feel this way forever. Keep going..🙏Bless my day with a follower.🤲🏼 it could mean a lot
Trade him
Is brian windhorst sick
I'd be concerned for Embiid even if he rejoins the Sixers this season. Even as a Celtic fan, I'd be happy if he wins a chip, but I'm concerned for him and his career if he forces the issue and comes back too soon, just like Brandon Roy and Greg Oden did. As a physical therapist I have a general advice: Do not gamble with meniscus injuries.
Kendrick Perking need to be fired from ESPN and never shown on television ever again
Good. Look at messi mess now in HK. Fans are angry thay they PAY for him just to sit at bench😅
Why are they always talking fkn lakers? No cavs , kings, thunder, Orlando
Joker wins the MVP and possibly the champions and the Finals MVP
Windhorst is a great guy but he can not make a take to save his life. One of the most insecure people ever and so afraid of failure. He NEVER gives statements and predictions only if buts or maybe. This guy has no real character and is lucky that they have guys like mad dog russo, perk and sas because if not there woulnd't be a place for this coward. That may sound like hate but I don't hate him at all I like him a bit but find it always crazy how he will just NEVER give a prediction. He is the ultimate non competitor
Espn goo cry…😊rasist tv😂
Meniscus isnt 4 weeks. 🤣🤣🤣 at least 6-8 weeks minimal. Who is the doctor? Witch doctor?
Do you know who you’ll never see putting a body on the line for a team & playing that hard… Joker lazy azz
Perk goo slep you litlle clown!
As a sixers fan it’s gonna be a big problem now that the big man is going to be out for a month with his injury, and we might lose some games and probably drop down to the play in tournament.
4 weeks at 3 to 4 games a week missed would still give a player tgeir 65 game minimum for a chance to win mvp and other awards. Just don't waste any days on minor boo-boos early on
By his own words he's only focused on the playoffs. I see no reason why they would let him play again before the playoffs
Wendy's makeup is horrible
Perk be right a lot more than he be wrong it’s just when wrong he be extremely loud😂
Can we get coby white PLEASE.
Hey Molly😍
Somebody get Perk an oxygen tank
Espn should fire Perk
Perk is right, they should shut down Embiid for the season and focus on next year. But I would go further, if they decide that, they should trade out some of their depth before the deadline to accumulate even more assets for an aggressive off season.
Should be trying to win a championship anyway like champions do yet he's worried about accolades
fear of Jokic not to humiliate him in Denver, playing game just to score 30..statpadder
Doesnt that kind of syrgery take 2-3 months at least to recover from?
Why underestimate?
4 weeks is a lie.
Why does ESPN embellish everything?
Embiid don’t want to play anyway I’d trade him. He is on the Westbrook Harden Carmelo path overrated not a champion
Perk has been on ESPN for years and they still haven't fixed his audio
Literally just make your decision based on how the recovery is going. If he's not healthy, don't play him. If he's good to go, no reason to sit him without need. Just follow the science.
This isn't good new lol 76ers are just not telling anyone. Every doctor on twitter is bruning the 76ers for all these awful reports.
trust the process for christ sake
Embiid for Randle + 1st rounder + Cash
and if he comes back he's the goat of playoff choke.
Windhy getttin old bruh lol
I agree with perk, the only way I’d try to bring him back is if Philly had a serious contender built but as of right now they don’t. So I wouldn’t risk it this season.
Without Embiid, the Sixers are about as bad as the Detroit Pistons. What’s the point in rushing Embiid back when the Sixers are a 8/9 seed in 4 weeks?
Perk!! You breathing hard big dawg!!
Glass cannon
This whole Embiid is is cappin af. Ain't no "procedure" on ANY type of meniscus injury, going to be fixed in 4 weeks. Something fishy af about this. I say trade the guy.
Bro got like two more years playing elite ball then his knee gone explode like Hiroshima and Nagasaki
"It sounds like you've got sleep apnea brother."
Good news for the 76's but bad news for Embiid. There is absolutely no way he should hit that floor during the regular season. There is a chance for the playoffs but is that chance worth your career and a life time of suffering later in life? I am not a professional basketball player but I have had five arthroscopic surgeries on my left knee. I have been putting off knee replacement surgery far longer than I should have. While it depends on how significant the tear, Embiid has been suffering from knee problems up until this most recent situation. I suspect he had torn meniscus floating around in his knee for sometime. Sometimes the knee just aches and sometimes a piece of the meniscus gets caught in the joint and locks up the knee. Based on their record without Embiid, if the 76's make the tournament it may only be as a play in. The NBA will also require play management so even then he won't be at full strength. Will 20 minutes a game be enough to beat Boston, the Cavs, Bucks or Knicks? Even another MVP award isn't worth it.
