This slaps my scottie hater self right in the nuts.

    Damn.

Attitude be damned. Like Jay Z says, numbers don’t lie.

Giannis just turned 18 when he came into the league though. Love Scottie but it has to be more transparent on the situations for the two.

Because there is no comparison. Scottie is clearly better

Giannis was trained in Greece and Barnes was trained in a system where he had everything he needed to be the best version of himself when he was drafted. I love Barnes and I wanted him over Suggs, but stop with these stupid comparisons.

  5. Keep in mind that Giannis was alright until he started to turn into an absolute physical freak and he was 18 in the league too

Comparing Tatum and Barnes first 3 seasons is similar as well (minus playoff performances). But age plays a roll there too.

Yeah, if you compare ages instead of seasons, then it reflects a much more realistic comparison. In year four when Giannis is the same age as Scottie Barnes is now he had one of his big leaps in production and efficiency. Also, Giannis was an All-Star that year for the first time like Scottie Barnes is now. But Giannis at age 22 was special because he was on the all defensive team and all NBA team that year. Giannis would be leading (barely) in most of the categories.

I like the idea of the post though. It’s a little generous to compare him to Giannis but I mean that’s what we are hoping for as a fan base.

This is not a good comparison at all. Especially given Giannis’ development path, both skillwise and physically.

People really need to stop focusing on numbers exclusively and take context into account.

Avg mins played in those games?

I’m not mad about the Giannis comparisons. I think it’s fair. He’s probably the best Giannis type prospect out there.

But stats don’t paint the whole picture. Giannis was playing before the massive tempo increase. Not to mention the first year usage for Giannis was extremely low.

    Stats can be misleading.

Scottie and Giannis don’t play the same way.

Giannis was 15th overall pick at 18yrs old, he barely even started his first year. Giannis also won Most Improved in his 4th year.

Stupid comparison that has been posted multiple times before

Such a stupid post. Scottie came to the Raps as the fourth pick and we put him in a position to grow and do well right from the start while Giannis was much more of a project and they had no reason to believe he was gonna be who he became so the two have different growths. And even if their situations were exactly the same, which I said isn’t the case at all, people don’t improve linearly.

It’s a tough comp. Scotties body and upbringing made him physically more NBA ready than Giannis. Once Giannis’ body filled out, combined with his work ethic, he made that big year 3 or 4 jump.

I love Scottie, but he doesn’t have the motor that Giannis has. He sometimes does, but Giannis is every play/game. Only time will tell if Scottie can bring it day in and day out.
