Things were so much simpler back then…

The other guy next to Reggie is Brian Beuford, former Butler player, for anyone curious. Awesome guy. Ended up helping me with my game after camp and even got me seats behind the bench for a Butler game.

  1. I went to get Reggie’s autograph in 1992 when I was 8. He was doing an appearance at some car dealership somewhere with B.J. Armstrong from the Bulls.

Anyway, I had broken my arm earlier that summer, and was rocking a cast, and they were both super cool,. Took the time to chat, and ask me what happened and they both wanted to sign my cast in addition to the pictures/basketball cards I had.

Just super chill and really in the moment.

A year or two later, I got to go to an event where most of the team (no Reggie, for some reason) was all hanging out with people in a Pizza Hut. I have a Pizza Hut Placemat with about over a dozen autographs from the 1993-94 Pacers, and again, they were all just so cool and relaxed about it all.

Rik Smits brought a pair of his shoes to let people look at and compare to their own. Pooh Richardson was playing arcade games with people.

And they were all dressed like regular goofs. No fancy fashion to be found anywhere. We’re talking acid wash jeans and polo shirts and stuff like that.

No entourages, no social media posts, no distractions.

    ‘‘Twas a much simpler time.

Man, I also went to Reggie’s camp. Keith Smart was one of the counselors and gave me a few pointers on my free throw form that I used for years to beat my cousins at HORSE.

I still have a couple of cards Reggie signed for me at the camp. Also kept in touch with one of the guys on my squad for a few years, hope he’s doing alright out there somewhere.
