I’m a Banton Believer!!! Dudes handle looks comfortable and the size really helps him see over defenders.

That was such a fun game for being as low scoring as it was.
Ayton continues his stretch of good play. Fuck Jason Quick.
Banton looks really solid pushing the pace, and he’s tall as shit for a point guard. Hope he can put it together here.
Appreciate all y’all still here rocking with the Blazers in what could easily be considered the darkest days we’ve experienced in over a decade.

Here are some of my thoughts on this game:
Positive:
* Ayton played great defensively. I don’t think the Pelicans scored a single time when he got switched onto CJ and Ingram on the perimeter, and he was impactful as a shotblocker and clogging things up in the paint too. He also did a great job rebounding the ball on both ends of the floor, and did made his midrange shots too (although I still wish he got to the FT line more than he does). Although I will say that in a game like this with a bunch of G league point guards who don’t know the offense, it’s nice to be able to throw the ball to Ayton for a midrange jumper). * With how well Ayton was playing defense on the perimeter, I thought it was a pretty smart adjustment by Chauncey to have Jabari guard the Pelicans’ ballhandlers (CJ, Ingram, etc). Normally you wouldn’t do this, but when the Pelicans tried to run their normal offense, the Blazers just switched everything and Ayton held up on the perimeter while Valanciunas had to deal with Jabari down low (as opposed to using Hagans or some other smaller guard, and then when the switch happens Valanciunas get a much easier look). If we are really committing to switching so heavily, I’d like to see more of this in the future. * I actually thought the whole team hustled really hard. The switching defense and length really seemed to bother the Pelicans and they struggled to generate good shots most of the night. I was also really impressed that Banton and Hagans were rotating so well off the ball, given that they just got here I kind of expected them to blow a lot of rotations (especially since we were playing so aggressively on that end of the floor) but they were mostly in the right place at the right time. * Kris Murray continues to look like an NBA rotation player, he’s always doing the little things that matter on both ends of the court (making right rotations, making good cuts that clear his defender out of space so someone else can attack, etc.) I do wish he shot some more open jumpers though instead of constantly pumpfaking out of open shots. * Banton had some nice looking moments, and he’s long and smooth with good vision.
Negatives:
* CJ with a patented brick-chucking appearance today. He tried his very best to win us the game lol. * Hagans looked terrified every time he got the ball and it felt like he wanted to get rid of it as soon as he touched the ball. Can’t blame him after last night. * The offense as a whole was horrendously ugly again, but what can you expect from a team with this many injuries? * I wish Banton could shoot – he would be so much more intriguing if he could shoot. But he doesn’t seem to be able to, so he feels a lot like a less talented Justice Winslow, unfortunately. I liked what he did in transition and as a connector, and he has great vision but it will be extremely hard to use him in the half court offense if he can’t shoot.

Top 55 protected pick for Banton seems like a good deal I think.

Very enjoyable tanking game. On paper that was a 25 point spanking with so many guys out.

If you aren’t gonna play your project guys in a losing season when you’re shorthanded, you’re never going to play them. Maybe we’ll see Rupert next year.

I guess losing is good for our Warriors pick. Keep NOP ahead of them in the standings.

Stop playing Manaya ffs, either play Rupert or send him back to the remix so he can play there. sitting on the bench does nothing for his development.

I thought Banton looked pretty good. He can’t shoot and his handle is a little suspect, but he’s a pretty good slasher which paired nicely with his elite size. I preferred him to Hagans this game. Surround him with a couple more weapons on the outside and i think he could do some stuff. Everyone was in a tough position tonight offensively because of all the injuries.
Due to a lack of playmaking, Ayton had no easy opportunities tonight. Despite that he played as well as you could hope, and was a menace on the boards. His streak of good play continues. Keep it up DA.

That could have been SO much worse with everybody out. Real happy with what I saw from DA and Banton tonight

Ayton’s stat line is so funny to me… 18 points on 18 shots. No fouls committed, no fouls drawn. Pure, ethical basketball.

Even though Banton isn’t a great shooter, his height made an impact. We really shouldn’t have anyone on the team under 6′ 4 other than Scoot and Simons.
