Dennis this is a twofold one uh what did it feel like to have the crowd I mean you’re you’re one game in and the crowd’s chanting your name here I mean it’s uh obviously it’s great um I’m glad we got the win um I think that’s the

Most important but of course uh uh appreciation is there and um I love uh that the fans did it you know um big time for me and you didn’t have a lot of time to get used to your teammates I mean you guys maybe some of you got on the court

Either this morning or yesterday but did you exceed even your own expectations when you consider how little time you had to get on the same page with everybody you came out and it looked pretty seamless for you I mean they uh the teammates I mean everybody in the in

The locker room told me to just be myself and play play basketball coaches um said the same thing you know I’m 11 years in um just try to be aggressive try to find my open teammates um you know push it in transition play defense I mean um they

Made it easy for me but uh like I said I’m glad that we won the game Dennis uh the inbounds play at the end of the third quarter with point4 seconds left first of all what how did those conversations go where decided you’d be the inbounder what you mean like when you

Inbounded it like was there a discussion like okay you’re going to be the inbound like was there just take us through the play yeah I mean I just took it out um I wanted to hit we had the ball uh Baseline with I think three three

Seconds left and then uh k m rich just told me to take it out and find them um just throw it up there and find them um but they deflected it and was 4 seconds on the clock I just took it out JV did a great play um screening uh cls’s man uh

Wi under the basket and I just threw it up and um he finished the play were you surp I mean just that little time left were you surprised that it just executed so well with you guys still getting to learn each other a little bit yeah uh I

Was definitely surprised that he catched it I thought it was um too far but um like I said there was a hell of a play and he finished it off back to the the fans chanting your name it came literally after you fouled Mama after you got hit in the face

First of all did that hurt I imagine that you don’t get hit by a guy that big very often and two just you know is it something to show like obviously we’re having a good game anyway but to show toughness is maybe something that you know point guards don’t get to show all

The time that you you know you can take a hit and give one back yeah uh definitely hurt that’s the reason why I’m keep touching my my chin um but uh like I said uh this is um great night for me um I mean getting the W and then

You know the the fans um scream in my name um you know teammates very happy and uh very welcoming um and um yeah I mean VMI is a pretty tall dude and um definitely hurts I got to ice it later uh you at halftime Dennis Smith Jr

Talked about playing in the back court with you and how it’s just a ton of activity and paint pressure how does having two guys that are so active and getting into the paint how does that kind of compound and create an even greater effect yeah I mean I told uh dsj

I told him before the game that you know for me um it’s just to win basketball games and to be effective and uh I played a three-man point guard lineup in OKC um back in the day and uh I think we can help each other you know pushing the

Ball whoever gets it you know just push the ball um I think we we got to play faster uh make sure we get into the paint and find open guys and um I mean we did that great tonight um that was the second day we’ve been together so

Just got to keep going um and keep getting better every single day then as obviously you were traded as a basketball player but you’re family person uh you had to move from from Toronto um what’s your situation right now you live in a hotel did your family

Join you already yeah I’m in the in the hotel got my computer up and I play a lot of Call of Duty right now because my family is not here um but my son’s birthday is tomorrow and I don’t miss you know birthdays like that so I’m

Couple drop offs you had that lob to him just what are your early impressions of him you know as a pick and roll partner and guys who can kind of work together uh great big um I think on the defensive end he do a lot of stuff what helps us

Um changing shots um blocking shots you know uh his presence uh under the whim um offensively he makes it easy uh for me you know coming off uh pick and wo he set a um big time screen so we got the two and one um situation and um it’s a

Lot I mean he puts a lot of pressure on the rim um rolling so uh the pocket pass and uh the O plays are always open and um I think when we get that chemistry right every single day try to you know get better at it at practice it’s going
