My Personal Thoughts on the GG Punishment

I know many were disappointed / worried when we found out about GG being inactive due to a violation of team rules. A friend of mine who is a fan of another team texted me saying “GG is suspended??!?!?” Which I guess is technically true but feels way more dramatic than what the situation actually is.

GG was still with the team pre-game last night, cheesing it up with everyone, posing for pictures for fans who had their phones held up toward him. He’s also expected to be [back with the team for tomorrow’s game against the Rockets](https://x.com/TheJonahDylan/status/1757187698438131870?s=20), so we can rest easy knowing that whatever it is, it isn’t too crazy.

[GG previously admitted to being fined several times at the beginning of the season.](https://twitter.com/colinzcody/status/1755829232243007537?s=46) He unfortunately did not stay on his “p’s and q’s” for very long but hey, he’s 19 and just became a millionaire.

While the situations are clearly very different as to their respective franchise “stock”, I think we’re seeing them react based on lessons that they learned from the other South Carolinian on the team.

We know that Ja partying before / after games was enough of an issue to where [Steven Adams tried to lead a player’s only meeting](https://www.si.com/nba/2023/03/07/steven-adams-grizzlies-players-ja-morant-incident) to address it before that foggy-Denver-eve had even happened. One would have to assume that that started with several smaller infractions, probably similar to whatever GG has had a hard time with.

Forcing him to sit out of a game for something minor is pretty extreme, but better correct extremely now if it helps instill the importance of *really* staying on your p’s and q’s to Mr. Good Game Jackson.

In conclusion, UM GGOD, GG4MVP, /r/gg45jackson hive let’s goooooooooo

As my mother always said, a suspension for a game keeps 25 away

I just celebrated my 23rd birthday, I’m well aware of how stupid I was at GG’s age. If he makes a mistake, punish him according to the rules and he will mature sooner or later. From a basketball perspective, he’s one of only two acquisitions for the Grizzlies this season (along with Vince) and just signed a new contract, so we have to support him.

I agree that it’s probably best long term that he was suspended. We’re all cheering for him to succeed and hoping he stays out of his own way. Gosh GG and VW could be 2 surprise pieces of a championship team I swear. However I’m not sure that we are the right team for someone struggling with maturity to succeed. We have a culture but we don’t have that culture. The guy who spoke up against misbehavior has been traded away. Hope Marcus can keep them smart. Would love to see all ball, all fun, no ducking, no nonsense next season.

Yea I feel like he was just late to practice or something. Not ideal obviously but nothing super serious and hopefully this stamps it out for the future cause he’s a crazy talent
