YouTube Channel HeatCheck used a photo Ref Ashley Moyer-Gleich in the thumbnail of a video about the bad call at the end of Knicks-Houston game. Ref Moyer Gleich was NOT even in that game. Screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/vESUtnv

I unsubscribed out right and banned him on my youtube feed. What a huge let-down. I have not seen the actual video of the end of the game. I didn’t know who the ref was. So when I saw the thumbnail, of course I assumed that Ref Moyer-Gleich was the one who made the bad call (I remember one game where she made an end of game whistle, but I was convinced she was right in that). Good thing I actually opened the video itself, and was confused for a few seconds as I was looking for her in the sideline.

Some commenters argue that this is nothing, but to me it is in the same level as misleading titles of news article.

Blatant misogynistic hate bait. Just totally shameless

  2. MehFrosty

Some people in the comments really trying to downplay this lmao

  3. jizzajam

First I’ve heard of this channel so mission accomplished I guess

  4. MrAppleSpoink

Can’t fucking stand this guy. Just more clickbait garbage. What sucks is the guy genuinely has some talent for play design analysis but instead he chooses the Mr. Beast route of just putting giant arrows and red backgrounds in his thumbnails with obviously misleading titles.

  5. sergechewbacca

NBA YouTube is full of these crappy clickbait channels these days.

  6. Accurate-Albatross34

Good call for bringing attention to this. Extremely piece of shit move. Disappointing that most of the youtube video comments just ignored it.(some did notice though.)

  7. NotBigBalls69

If he was smart, he would have put Scott Foster in the thumbnail instead.

  8. deadwinged

Unfortunately I’ve noticed broadcast commentators also zeroing in on female refs more frequently, more harshly, and by name moreso than they do the male refs. Really disappointing.

  9. dustinharm

It’s very hard to argue that that’s not deliberate rage bait for his audience. Clown behavior.

  10. BREAKING NEWS: YouTuber does unethical click bait

  11. This kind of misrepresentation is far too common in internet culture and im glad someone is pointing it out.

  12. HearingGlobal6485

youtube videos have had clickbait titles and thumbnails for years now so you’re right its similar to misleading article headlines but that has also been a thing for years

they do it because it drives engagement so it’s unlikely to change if its the algorithm now

  13. It’s clickbait because she’s a female ref. Pretty disgusting honestly

  14. MitchLGC

Clickbait, ragebait, misinformation is super common on YouTube sports channels.

There’s very very few good sports channels on YouTube

  15. BigDJShaag

Extremely shitty thing to do but this is nothing new this guy always makes low-effort sensationalist videos

  16. Brother, the only reason he used her is because she is attractive and it will make kids want to watch it. YT clickbait is at an all time level.

  17. MikeyBastard1

Never heard of this dude but i just checked out his supposed [store](https://heat-check-shop.fourthwall.com/). Is it not illegal to use a persons likeness for profit? Bro out here selling NBA merch of the stars of the league.

Also browsing through his channel it’s NOTHING but clickbait Jesus. Nothing but the sterotypical “and you WONT believe what happens next!” Brother is even using the arrows to point at things. Only thing missing is the Edvard Munch “The Scream” face.

  18. k1ngkoala

I think it’s to drive engagement. YouTube videos perform better when women are in the thumbnails since men are more likely to click. Still an asshole move though. Saw the same video in my feed and just assumed it was clickbait.

Most clickbait channels will typically find some way to put women in their thumbnails

  19. Nsfwaccount123xd

This is definitely clickbait because she is attractive. Common YouTube strategy.

  20. Rahnamatta

Youtube with fake news, violence misinformation and another bullshit: ***We are fine with that***

Youtube after 5 seconds of you playing three chords on the guitar: ***Delete the video or you will find about our team of lawyers, and we already called UniversalMusic you piece of shit***

  21. sbenfsonw

NBA YouTubers are some of the worst with misleading clickbait and thumbnails

  22. CasperCann

Randomly blaming a woman? On youtube? Thats not uncommon sadly lol.

  23. Additional-Tip-3010

    Was this worth a post ? 😂

  24. Balducci30

Especially in an age where most people just look at the thumbnail and read the headline instead of watching the whole video

  25. lupeandstripes

Its wild how sexist youtube is these days. From shitheads like the critical drinker who critique female led films far more harshly than men, to sports channels like this. I try to avoid this shit, but their algo pushes it. Recently, even though I haven’t clicked a single one, I’m getting recommended videos like this dudes that are basketball themed but shitting on the WNBA with titles like “NBA player has X # of three pointers, the WNBA’s best – only 4” and such.

Its just really sad that these losers have nothing better to do with their time than try to denigrate successful women who haven’t done a damn thing to deserve that sort of treatment.

  26. MountainMustangs

I was so confused as well and went back on the video as it did not look like her at all. So ridiculous, mysoginistic and a cheap tactic

  27. AShinyTorchic

Why is this post even allowed lmao

You could make a million posts complaining about the crappy clickbait thumbnails and titles on YouTube from a bunch of different channels

  28. kb24fgm41

Jesus man this is the biggest example of a first world problem I’ve ever seen lmao why are you so angry at some thumbnail from a random YouTube channel? Lol Dude this isn’t really a problem, just enjoy your life, today is valentine’s day go out with your s.o and enjoy some time together instead of getting all worked up about something so insignificant!! You’ll be a happier person if you let go of these things! Good luck!!

  29. Top-Employment5477

Do you not have the courage to say you think this is sexist cause its not but want to clickbait this thread like they did on the video?

Clickbaitception is a new thing to me

  30. College_Prestige

Misogynists in sports communities is unfortunately very common

  31. gettinDINWIDDIT

Gotta get that sexist rage attention

  32. Women, especially pretty ones like the referee Ashley Moyer-Gleich, will generate more interest and more people will click on the video to watch.

It’s clickbait, but the angle is ‘sex sells’ not ‘sexism’ one like a lot of people in here seem to think it is.

  33. nonufwiendz

That channel’s just trying to add more misogyny to a very misogynistic community already smh

  34. LothCatPerson

It was 100% intentional to get the sexiest section of the sports fan crowd to get outraged about this.

Also, she’s attractive and a female ref, so she’s going to get hate from just about every angle no matter what she does as a ref while simultaneously getting horny creepy comments too(literally see those about her on this sub before you claim that doesn’t happen).

  35. Popular-Individual65

Oh no! A YouTube video thumbnail?! Noooooooooo

Even when I was a kid I don’t think I cared about something as inconsequential as this.

  36. RiggleRobRiggle

Yeah that’s obviously pretty bad. In slight relation, on this sub, the consistent backlash towards Doris Burke on this sub is typically filled with cheap misogyny. We can critique her commmentary with rendering it down to her “gagging” on other star players.

  37. VacationOdd775

You have the right to unsubscribe but dont be a baby about it. Like he is the only youtuber with clickbait titles.
