[Kawakami] Lacob says “Plan 1A” this offseason is to not only get out of the 2nd apron but to move below luxury-tax line. That’d be a big cut from this season’s payroll but doable with some large expiring deals coming off the books giving them flexibility.
Lots of news in here, including:

To get below the luxury tax seems crazy given our recent history, but as we all know, it pretty much comes down to Klay and CP3. If Klay re-signs for 3/$60M, the team lets CP3 walk and signs a veteran minimum PG in his place, you’re basically right at $171M (and right now, the LT is projected between $171 and 172M).
If Klay takes even more of a haircut, it might open the door to bringing CP3 back if that’s the plan (though I think he could get the MLE somewhere).
Hey, I speak Capitalist:
“Klay is like a son to me, I want him to retire a Warrior.”
Translation: “We’re letting him walk so I can save $100 million in luxury tax.”
If that’s the case Klay may be looking at an offer in the 10-12 million a year range from us.
This tells me they are budgeting for the Kuminga extension which they should.
“Had a deal to save 80million at the deadline”. What in the world could that have been?!
Obligatory: FUCK JOHN FISHER
Lacob is a dream of an owner. Warriors are lucky to have him running the show. As a fan base we should forever be thankful.
Whether 1A or 1B, CP is gone, as that’s the simplest way to cut salary.
It was pretty evident when there were no CP trade rumors at the deadline. Lacob just wants to cut salary and CP is expiring. Basically did the same with Oubre’s salary slot in 2021
>”I love him as a son. I have a great relationship. He’s had an up-and-down year. End of the day, I believe in Klay. I think he’s a very impactful player. I think he’s going to come through for us in the clutch if we make another run. I stand behind Klay Thompson. I know he’s expiring. I like to have him retire as a Warrior.”

Edit to add: also Lacob calling Draymond “a brother from another mother” is hands down the funniest, best quote to ever come out of a GM’s mouth. I need it and both of them on a shirt
Looks like we are 174, 175 with Chris Paul’s 30 mil. we have 10 signed players if we cut paul, so we would have to get klay + 3 players under 26 or 27 million (171 mil projected luxury tax line). I think vet mins count for 1.9 or so against the cap meaning we have money to bring Klay back at 20 mil or so. If they want to try and bring back Chris paul at say 10 million or pay Klay more, they could cut or rework Looney’s deal, move Moody, or signing lester frees up half a mil. The first 2 could open up 10 million after vet min replacements.
We are blessed to have such an owner who actually wants to win constantly.
If the goal is to have the full MLE and BAE available what are some players we could add? Standout names for me are Nicolas Batum, Hartenstein, Royce O’Neale
So essentially, this will no longer be a cup contender.
r/holdup He loves Klay as a son but Dray like a brother from another motha?

Those are not the words of someone who is committed to winning a championship at all costs.
