The bar basketball coach of a very successful program in northern Michigan Please Subscribe and like well piston fans we made another big deal we traded Burks and bogie for Quinton Grimes and as R Kelly once said I don’t see nothing wrong with the little Quinton Grimes

Actually that was a song in the 90s called bump and grind but anyway um we got two the key thing I’m coming away from the trade deadline is I’m excited I’m excited that we got Quinton Grimes and I’m excited that we got ponio and so those two players are real NBA players

So we’ve been playing this year you know with liver and Knox and Killian and those guys aren’t real rotational players in the NBA and we we play them every night and we lose close games now these guys are legit and so I’m really excited we’re going to get into those

Guys a little bit more but it’s sad to see Burks and bogy go they were Class Acts I love those guys I’ll always be their fan but it was the right move they’re old and uh Burks is going to be 33 and he’s gonna be free agent at the

End of the year and want if you resign him then you’re resigning him for 34 35 and and guys just go downhill and you know also Brooks and bogie are unbelievable offensive players but they struggle defensively and so we got better we got better defensively for

Sure and that was an important thing we got younger and we got some quality players so and we didn’t give up anything we didn’t give up any of our young core any of our young players our core six if you want to call uh Cade Ivy assar Duran Sasser and Stu

We didn’t give up any of those guys and so um we’re playing better it’s exciting and I just excited to see things going forward it will be interesting the fanto deal just got approved so I know that uh last night uh James Edwards III reported that fanto wouldn’t be playing um in the

Game against the Kings last night or against the um Blazers tonight but the deal’s approved by the NBA so technically I know he could play so I mean that means he’s had his physical and everything’s good so I I would be thrilled if to get to see him play

Tonight because we would love to have a 68 guy that can shoot and play defense so anyway so the there’s a lot of other players involved and we’re going to get into it right now but um so Ryan Arcadia I don’t know oh that’s not even how you

Pronounce his name but he’s not really a player that we’re GNA keep he’s 30 years old he’s 6 fo three he’s played in 20 games this year and scored zero point zero points so he’s hardly got to play for the Knicks the other big takeaway

Before I I I jumped ahead of myself a little bit my biggest disappointment of the trade deadline is we traded away Burks and bogie and that like I said I was cool with that the the frustrating thing is we should have got that first round pick back from the Knicks instead

The Knicks gave us a bunch of players that were going to just release or you know cut at the end of the year and two second round draft picks so I don’t know they have it’s not been reported yet where those second round draft picks I hope they’re halfway

Decent because you know there’s second round picks that are not good that are you know if they’re late 50s they’re not that good so anyway the Knicks give them credit they they didn’t blink so I think they they got a great the great end of the deal they have eight first round

Picks and why they couldn’t trade away that pick of ours they own what our first round pick that when it’s conveyed it’s protected one through 16 this year we all know one through 13 next year one through 11 one through nine and then it goes to two second round picks

Eventually but it’s not a valuable pick for any other team to have because they don’t know when it’s going to convey and it’s going to convey in a lot of years and it’s going to be a late rounder it could go to second round picks if the

Pistons remain real bad for a long time so I don’t know why they couldn’t have thrown that in and we I don’t know could held out but I’m sure that Troy wanted it and tried to get it but Quinton Grimes I’ve wanted him for a while he is

He is a good player he is 64 65 and he can shoot the three and they just got too many players at his position and we’re going to talk about his stats for the year and stuff but he he is really good but I we should have got that first

Round pick so that is the number one negative about the whole trade deadline I didn’t see the fonio deal coming and that was the really great great thing so anyway we the Burks zogi um for Malai Flynn Quinton Grimes Evan forier two second rounders so Quinton

Grimes 23 years old only and he’s um he was in 2021 he was the 25th player picked in the draft like I said he’s 6’4 65 but the big thing 38% on threes for his career and he’s just tough he’s going to be a restricted free agent at

The end of 2025 so we have him for this year and next year signed for a small amount of money and then we he’s restricted free agent so we can make sure we sign that we get him so that that’s going to be a great thing for us

Um yeah 2.3 million this year 4.2 million next year the F and then he’s restricted free agent so and right now you know he he he had higher value like last year we’re going to talk about that and in a minute so he had was having a

Really good year a lot of people thought he was going to be a breakout star at different times I’ve heard it and I thought his his trade value was way higher and now we might be able to get away with signing him for a low money because even though he’s still the same

Good player his value is low right now because the Knicks weren’t playing him so they kind of lowered his value but um so in this year he’s averaged 7.3 points a game two rebounds 1.2 assists 40 percent from the floor and 36% on threes 71% on three on free throws but he’s

Only played 20 minutes a game 20.6 minutes per game this year so that’s that’s the thing about statistics when you look at them you need to check what they would be per 36 if you want to make a comparison to other people but his career which he started out young didn’t

Play much as a youngster he’s averaged 30 minutes a game and 29.9 and 11.3 points per game and 2.5 rebounds a game 2.1 assists 47% uh from the field and 39% on threes which is awesome um well that that was his stats from last year so la that’s last year he had

That great year so he had the 29 30 minutes the game in a the high averages so that’s when he looked like he was going to be a breakout star and he he he’s a really good player so we don’t even know you know we got we’re loaded

At guard obviously we have War guards that are young and talented with Kade Ivy Sasser and now quitting Grimes so and those guys are versatile like I I think I mentioned in the last episode that Ivy Kade and Sasser can all play the point I’m not sure if Grimes can or

Not but anyway Malachi Flynn is only 6 foot one he’s 25 years old 4.2 points a game I don’t even need to go through a stats he’s he’s going to be a free agent at the end of the year and so I’m sure if we don’t release him before the end

Of the year we will at the end of the year and Evan fornier is he’s a real good player he’s he’s averaged in for his career he’s averaged like 14 points a game and 2.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists 44% and 38% for threes and he shoots a

Lot big volume and he’s six6 he’s been known to be not a very good Defender and so that the that down thing on him and so it’s kind of like bogy and Burks they’re not good Defenders either but so you know we can and we have a team

Option for the year after this I I doubt we’ll use it some teams like to have players like that that make about 20 million a year he’s making 18 million this year and then 19 million next year but it’s a team option and so you can

Hold on to it and then use it in a trade and then as an expiring contract and sometimes people find Value in that but again the we got the two second round picks which we need to restock those if we can but the big thing is getting Quinton Grimes and and

Again the longer you hang on to Bogi and Burks you know you’re not playing your younger players and then um they’re getting older every day and there’s chances of injury and their play declining and so you know people the big thing discussion was they said that we

Were offered last year at the trade deadline two first round picks for bogie I’ve heard some people say that’s not quite the case and but I’ve heard a lot of people have just uh regurgitated did it and set it over because they heard it from somebody else but you know those

Rumors are in speculation I don’t know if it was from how reliable of a source that we could have gotten again all first round picks aren’t created equally just like you know our our our second round pick we traded for fonio is close to being a late it might be like the

33rd pick so the first round is 30 pick so it’s close to being a late first round pick but I’m excited like I said I I think that with um making the trades we got younger we have a a lot of good young players in place we’re playing

Better right now players are evolving we’re seeing great improvements from Duren we’re seeing how good sass assar can be how great sasser’s improved how good Cade’s improved they’ve all improved despite Monty Williams they’ve all shown signs the challenge is how is Monte going to put things together so my

Starting lineup for the rest of the year would be Cade Ivy Duran assar and panto so we’ll see what he does and then I would bring off Sasser and Grimes Off the Bench and stew and then maybe muscala and then again I would stagger people and do different combinations but

We have I think a good bench and a good good starters and I just am excited to watch the rest of the year again I hope that one good thing again we’ve got rid of some players that were playing instead of a sour like we got rid of

Livers and Knox and we got rid of um Monty Morris who I think probably is a good player but you know we want saser to play so they can’t there’s not enough minutes for both of them if Kate and Ivy are playing it is good to have Grimes

Too because we’ve all seen injuries are a reality in life they are just a part of the NBA and so you always have players hurt so when we have those four good really quality guards then hopefully on most nights we’ll have at least three of them and then we’ll be in

In good shape I still not sure we you know going into next year we number one priority is to get another a four that can shoot the three and play defense and preferably somebody like 610 and that’s what I would be looking for in the draft you know again I’ve talked about Zachary

Rashard he’s like 610 and can shoot it and and Cody Williams I Love Cody Williams he’s not quite that tall he’s maybe 69 but he’s he’s a really great player and so add somebody like that along with the guys that we have and we

Got the r and free agency we can pick up it’ be really be great if we got a a backup center that could shoot the three and and play defense and block shots and so so but everybody else wants one Miles Turner is one of those guys and Chad

Hram those are the two that come to my mind that can do both of those things so um yeah I don’t I don’t know what’s gonna happen with u i I do know what’s gonna happen so we Joe Harris is gone we waved Joe Harris we released Killian

Hayes so the Killian Hayes experiment after four years is gone and I know there’s he had a lot of fans in Detroit and I hope for the best for him I would not even be shocked if he ended up being a good player somewhere but I’m glad

It’s not in Detroit because him taking up the minutes of other players that I felt were better and his confidence I I still think his shot was the problem he couldn’t shoot he wouldn’t shoot he last night he passed up layups he drove right to the basket and there was nobody

Between him in the rim twice and he kicked it out to the corner but I no reason to dump on killing anymore he’s gone and so we got um we released we got Daniel house from the um the 76ers and we got a second round pick it’s actually the Knicks second round pick

For next year so we didn’t have any second round picks left after we traded panto we traded the second round pick that we did have it was a really good second round pick but Daniel house we waved him so you we have to get down to

15 players so we had at least 17 or 18 players there for a minute so we unloaded three players already so as far as I know the trade the edlines gone Cojo got traded to the Pacers from Golden State and that was just basically a money move

Um we’ll see what happens Cade should play tonight like I said he he I think they they knew that we had a back toback and they weren’t going to play in a back toback so they picked they picked the Portland game because I think they thought that was probably our best

Chance to win and then we go turn around and we we beat uh the Kings last night so that was pretty cool but I hope that fento and Cade can play tonight so again I told you my starting lineup and and my rotation but we have you know eight

Young really good players and the I think the future is bright and people kind of um downplay fanto and said why did they get rid of him and they they did have they had a log Jam at the forward spot he’s 28 years old but um he

Started for them 34 games out of their 50 games he started and he played 23 minutes a game which when you have John Collins and all these other guys they weren’t even able to play Taylor Hendricks and they are really high on him just like I was and so I I don’t I
