Warriors/Jazz Postgame, Klay, Podziemski, Wiggins, Coach Kerr Reactions | Feb 15, 2024

Good good P how good does it feel to to have a break at this point of the season right now to to to have a few days off uh it’s much needed um it was good to end with a with end a uh with a win um I

Know the guys will be looking forward to their break just getting away from basketball a little bit and being with their family and their friends and um you know come back ready to go next week and uh we got a big uh rest of the

Season ahead of us um so I think we’re super excited but I also think uh this break is well needed uh We’ve playing a lot of games in a lot of days um so I think it’s really needed pod you got the start tonight played a great game can

You talk about Klay Thompson coming off the bench for the first time in how many years is that 2012 since 2012 comes out and gets 35 points on the bench talk about Klay Thompson yeah he’s amazing um one of the best vets uh you could be

Around um we all know he can shoot the ball with the best of best of them you know him and sta are the best two Shooters in you know NBA history and you know in that second group I think uh we we allowed to play through him and um

Get him as many shots as we can and um it worked wonders tonight um I think he what 35 something like that um you know when you see him rolling like that especially as a point guard like myself and I just try to get him involved as

Many ways as we can because um you know he can make shots and in a flurry you know a lot of lot of talkers been made about compar your game to Draymond and they say you’re a mini Draymond because of the way you fill up the stat sheet

Here 138 six tonight you’re going into the allstar break on the roll but I want to throw this stat at you pods and maybe you could relay it to Draymond Green the Warriors all time with Draymond hits two or more threes in a game and it’s my

Favorite stat 131 to 28 lifetime so tell Draymond let them babies fly from Deep yeah I tell him every game uh it’s like they’re going to disrespect you and not guard you just let it fly and you know even if he shoots three for six three for seven we we’ll take those

Percentages all day because um you know those are crucial buckets and you know when they start playing up on him then Stephen Clay get open and Jonathan and Andrew follow the help and you know me and Gary just clean up the dirty work so

Um you know uh just tell them let it fly every game p last question what do you guys have to change in the second half of the season after All-Star break to have the success you want to have moving forward uh transition defense uh guarding our man I was pretty bad

Tonight with that and uh rebounding uh those three things um you know be the the key to winning we could put up 140 points a night but but um you know playoff time and playing against good teams you need to get stops and you saw last night against La we couldn’t so um

Transition defense you know guarding our man and um you know finishing the play with a rebound I think the the most important things we got to do well you guys have won eight to 10 five straight wins on the road you’re having a great month of February a heck of a rookie

Season congratulations on that have fun in Indianapolis we’ll see you next Thursday against the LA Lakers thank you guys God bless how you doing Steve um the decision to bring play Off the Bench when did you make that decision how did the conversation with him go what you think the way he responded

Tonight uh yeah I I’ve been thinking about it and um you know the the lineup with um Brandon out there with wigs JK Draymond Steph it’s been by far our best lineup and um it just BP connects the game he rebounds he does does some things that really help the other guys

And um I’ve been thinking about it um decided to do it um tonight and talk to Clay this morning and I thought he handled everything beautifully you know um the way he came out uh determined competitive um that’s not easy you know to come off the bench for the first time

In I don’t know 11 years you probably know um that’s that’s difficult but um Clay’s a champion he’s one of the most competitive people I’ve ever met and and um you know he’s he responded accordingly and played a great great game you plan on continuing to bring him

Off the bench yeah yeah doesn’t mean it’s permanent but as I said I like that lineup with BP and the other four and um you know Clay coming off the bench gives us a lot of Firepower um we’ll we’ll give it a little look and we’ll see how

It goes from there another I mean game that comes right down to the wire you you feel more satisfied with the victory more disappointed with the way it closed just how do you feel um winning eight of 10 going in the r yeah I mean we our

Guys um were exhausted you know we’ve had so many games and uh got in at 3:30 in the morning last night and um you know for them to respond the way they did bring the energy um play the game that they did obviously we made a lot of

Mistakes down the stretch and gave them a chance um but um I’m much more satisfied with the win than anything and then we’ll look at the tape and show the guys all the rebounds the Box outs we missed uh the turnovers we had 13 turnovers which is a great number but

They led to 29 Points they were all pick sixes they we were literally just throwing the ball to them over and over again and um can’t do that in the modern NBA I mean everybody shoots a million threes and it feels like a you know a 10-point lead these days feels like five

Did you know 10 years ago and we’re up 19 and you know mid four and it doesn’t feel close to over and it wasn’t so it’s a new league and we we have to shore up our decision making and execution because um you know one one play can can literally shift

Everything team hits you know five threes in a row and game’s changed you mentioned the fatigue that you guys are feeling I mean how nice is it to have some time off now after you know all the stretch all the road games all the travel and what great to have uh some

Time off um I think all all the guys have really earned it and you know it’s a good chance to to just breathe and get away and um take their minds off basketball and you know we’re in a good spot we’re above 500 um we come back um

With an opportunity to to make some hay and we’re we’re excited about it going back to Clay and his performance tonight he had season High season High made field goals at 18 points in the third quarter what about how did he approach that that made him so successful

Six I mean what was he doing out there led to him being so he was yeah he was just being himself but I think the you know the the fuel um that that fed his competitiveness um was you know the the decision that I made and um he wasn’t

Thrilled about it but I didn’t expect him to be thrilled about it but as I said he’s just such a competitor um I’ve watched him win championships I’ve seen him hit you know a million Big Shots I’ve seen him guard the toughest guys in the league um Clay’s a champion he’s an

Incredible player great person um I’ve been blessed to coach him for for 10 years um it’s been a tricky season for him and for us um there’s a lot of transition happening some of our younger guys are coming on um it’s not as easy to do you know what Clay did five six

Years ago for him um I think this could be a you know a good good balance to to to get the best out of clay and to get the best out of our team Draymond um 23 points tonight I think that’s most he scored since 2018 um just what did he bring

Offensively and you know to see that he he can still do that towards that show well 23 today was like 11 in my day you know it’s it’s all relative no I’m just I’m just kidding um Draymond game um offensively has been so good all year you know he’s shooting a really good

Percentage from three he’s attacking the rim um there’s obviously a lot more space you know playing with him at the five and playing a smaller lineup and um he just he’s such a brilliant player at both ends the scoring is just gravy defensively he is um just an amazing

Smart kind of free safety middle linebacker just um whatever you want to call him um he’s he’s just brilliant not watching him on the the alternative broadcast hell no hell no not watching any basketball you kidding me can’t blame you all right thanks thanks Andrew what it feel like starting

A game without clay next to him starting line 12 years since you um yeah but you know Clay’s a he’s a true professional you know he didn’t he didn’t complain or nothing um he took it out on the court you know his show you know he played his

Hard out had a great game um played competitive um and that’s you know that’s a clay We love to see yeah you for sure to that point right knowing the UPS Downs he this year how nice is it for you guys to see him have a game like

He had next yeah for sure you know Clay’s Clay is that guy everyone wants to see do good you know he’s a he’s a great guy you know he works hard and you know just knowing you know the story uh behind you know everything you know

Everyone you know wants him to do good yeah just what does Brandon bring to that that group that that first group in his place um Brandon he’s he’s a very versatile guard you know he kind of does everything you know whether it’s rebounds assist you know score he kind

Of does everything you know good allaround basketball player with just everything you guys have been through these past you know few weeks in particular how nice is it to to to enter the allstar break on a high note having won eight or 10 and how the opportunity

Get some rest um yeah that’s a positive you you know for sure you know it’s been an up and down season but you know things are definitely starting to take a turn for the best um we just got to stay at it stay connected you know keep playing um you

Know together um keep sharing the basketball and you know take care of you know our efforts defensively and we’ll be fine um with with Clay it wasn’t just the the total of points they scored in basket te but one play he he critical baskets then in the first quarter to get

You guys back with in a possession then he had 18 in the third quarter when you were able to some like what what can you say just about his timing and and and when he scored and when he made his place yeah I mean you know he was

Scoring at you know key moments in the game you know that gave us you know the advantage you know we don’t we don’t win this game without him you know Clay he was a huge part of you know this win tonight oh Man questions um yeah right first let’s get right through first time coming off the bench since your rookie season just how did you when did you find out how did the conversation go and how did you process to play in that role um found out this

Morning me and Steve had a good talk about it and uh you know you could do two things you can pout or you can go out there and respond and I thought I did the ladder very well tonight um especially no turnovers and missed a

Few box out so but more importantly uh I realized I’m going to play a ton of minutes so you just got to let the ego go when you think of coming off the bench and all that so I mean I thought about mon jobi that guy has four rings

And gold medal and he came off the bench his whole career and I don’t think anyone looks down on his Hall of Fame candidacy he’s uh one of the greats and I thought I I mean I embraced it that before tip and uh I mean I deserved it really I

Didn’t didn’t respond to not playing at the end of the game well last night I kind of took it out on the assistant coaches and I apologize to those guys before the game and I think that really let my guard down let me just be myself

Out there did you feel free out there when you were playing yeah yeah absolutely cuz uh the moment you worry about what people say or what headlines will be written about being benched or the streak being broken is when you go out there and you don’t play with that

Love that compassion for your teammates and that freedom that has got me to this point so uh I realized that I didn’t want to go to Allstar break on a sour note and have my best game with a season hopefully build off it one thing that really kind of stood out about your

Performance is is when you made plays and one you scored had a big strong finish to them in the first quarter to get the team back with possession in the third quarter you had 18 points to help extend enough to you guys were able to hold off their yeah what what was kind

Of your your approach your meal approach in those clutch moments the game uh well in the clutch moments I did miss a couple really easy looks such as life but uh throughout the game when I’m running with that second unit I realized you know I might be the more of a focal

Point through the offense so uh that’s a fun role to play and um I just really I just wanted to take it upon myself to prove the coach that I was going to respond like the champ I am and I thought I did that well tonight and I learned some things tonight that

I’m going to carry with myself throughout the whole season what are some of those things you learn still play for your teammates play for the fun of the game play for the dubs not the name on the back of the jersey and that’s what I’m at my best it

Was when I’m winning is the only thing that concerns me has that been kind of a challenging yeah because you’re so used to being at a certain level shooting a certain percentage attending All-Star games and then it just is a little harder these days and there’s nothing

Wrong with that I’m not the first athlete to go through it so I realize how lucky I am to still be playing this game um at 34 years old uh that just helped me realize like I can still be really good in this league

And I can’t you know get hung up on a few bad performances here or there rather than just being grateful to be out here and do what I love it’s it’s really a blessing absolutely it’s been a long season we’ve had some really tragic instances obviously Dey passing hit

Us like nothing we’ve ever experienced before so I know everyone in our organization is just going to need this mental break to reset um with the way the schedule was going into the break coach you guys were feeling pretty exhausted there towards game but you were able to

Got it out and pull it out what in that cont much like were able it’s huge and we have a chance to really carry this momentum after the break we have a great six game stand ahead of us when we come back and they’re all winnable games and we’re

Going to take them one by at a time but the end of the day we think we still have what it takes to reach reach our ultimate goal and that’s you know obviously win a championship but it’s going to take some great high level thoughtful basketball from here on out points

Foreve well Steve and I have a great history together and although we have butt heads in the past just like any other great player the head coach we had have a respect for each other and uh for to be in that 15,000 Point Club I mean the six Warrior to do

It is a huge honor I mean I’m in there with Hall of Famers and that’s just humbling for myself to be on the same list as Wilt and Steph and moly and Rick Barry and it’s really a dream come true nice in the half too

  1. Podz is my favourite player now, he know how to play the game so well with no outstanding length, seing him play so shining with every detail. He will be one of the great point guard in the future, acheive those CP3 or Jason Kidd things, he will find his way to play and control the game with his smart.

  2. Klay coming off the bench ain’t the worst idea he gets more opportunities to do what he does best shooting the ball.

  3. This interview with Klay and Wiggins in the context of the rest the season is perhaps why we get back into the finals and perhaps even on step further 😁😳🀯β™₯️😎πŸ₯ΉπŸ˜Œ

  4. πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ€πŸ‘‘πŸ€πŸ‘‘πŸ€πŸ‘‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‡·πŸ‡ΈπŸ€πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ€πŸ‡·πŸ‡ΈπŸ€πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

  5. Well is that what takes to wake Klay than is the right choice which Steve should have done time ago …..but better later than never will see ….there is still lot to clean up but to have a right lineup rotation is a good thing…

  6. I think they should bencu you Steve kerr you are doing horrible. That aint the reason why this game almost lost, when you was gone they totaly diferent team. You are problem

  7. i think Klay should get married for him to remmember how to shoot hehehe when he's young he s a sharp shooter and shoot a lot ,i think his juice is running dry, so he needs to get married to remember to shoot . Be familiar with it atleast heheheh

  8. Klay is a streaky and gets his rhythm if he has more touches. Playing alongside Curry doesn't help him coz Curry is the go to guy and he has the tendency to just be passive. Quit moving and lost his aggressiveness. I

  9. Big respect to Klay. He always impresses me with his maturity. There are men in their 70s that act like children, but Klay is out
their doing what his team needs him to do.

That is not easy for a future hall of gamer to do. He had referred to Ginobli, and to playing for his team and not the name in the back of his jersey. Much respect for it. The man is indeed a Champion.

  10. Great game, Klay(and your defense might have saved us)! When you play for others, many blessings come to you. It is called the new earth. Of course, Steph's brains and free throws sealed it. Everyone played very well, and JK is human(he looked a little tired.). Steph and Einstein said doing the same thing over and over is the definition of insanity. Coaches, unless we change things up towards the end, we can expect even worse(I.e. other teams will all do this to us.). A few suggestions: GP2 and Moody are disrupters, and I suggest they be employed when the momentum starts to change(e.g. late 3rd quarter, etc.). I also think we need more size towards the end(TJD and Draymond?). Anyhow, we seemed to be back on our heels when the tide starts to turn. It's not as if the players out there aren't trying, but your admonishes to take care of the ball, etc. don't seem to be working. Plus, I don't want our players tired and susceptible to injury.

  11. Podz is such a smart player for a rookie. Rarely does a rookie have the firm grasp of assignments, rotations, and spacing that Podz does. He simply knows how to play the game properly. I'll take someone like him anytime versus an individual player, loaded with physical talent, but doesn't grasp the team concept properly!

Klay was absolutely astounding last night! Probably the quickest and most beautiful release in NBA history!

  12. I don't wanna see a klay interview on a good game when he doesn't show up to interviews every other game

  13. Podz is good but he is not all that. Just an average journeyman type player. His float game is terrible. He cant finish around the rim 50-50 and his defense is lacking

  14. liked i said the warriors can do anything they putted their minds together and also warriors have a excellent defense and a sharp eye on getting their rebounds that's why i liked watching them and for draymond please stayed where you belonged and also for Gary payton please stayed as well and kaminga you stayed as well amen amen reply

  15. Klay gonna take that Ray Allen/Manu role to another level. I love Klay’s mentality. Honestly our dynasty is going to last because NO EGO on our team

  16. People…one game having a hot hand is hardly anything…let alone giving praised to a player like Klay who has been mostly a chump this season. Stop being soft. Being CONSISTENTLY a good team mate and contributor is much more important. As the great late Kobe Bryant said in his iconic post-game interview (when Lakers where up 2-0in the 2009 Finals)…"What's there to be happy about. Job not finished. Job finished? I don't think so…". If Klay could CONSISTENTLY support Steph and help push GSW into playoff contention, then we can start complimenting Klay….

  17. Kenny needs to come in for Steve at the 8 minute mark. He kinda-sorta finally came around with the youngs. Steve Kerr: β€œour guys were exhausted.” Santos and Moody: β€œwe’re not!”

  18. steve kerr be like: its a new league ,10 points lead doesnt matter anymore…
warriors past: erasing 20 points deficits because steph and or klay drops 12 points a minute
whos fault is that, what do you think?
also wiggs with lesser emotion and slower talking reminds me so much of kawhi…dont know why
