Carmelo Anthony on an interview with Dwyane Wade: “The deal was done with the Lakers. Me and Nenê for Lamar Odom and Bynum. That deal was done. I never thought about New York”

He then goes on to say: “When they turned that deal down, now it’s like: Oh, y’all don’t want me in the West, gonna send me to the East. Get me to New York.”

That is around 1:36:00 in the interview.

So that would have been in the 2011 season.

If that was the entire trade, our lineup would’ve been:

Derek Fisher – Kobe Bryant – Ron Artest – Carmelo Anthony – Pau Gasol.

Pretty great lineup if you ask me.

Don’t know how that would affect Lakers’ next moves. Of course no Lamar Odom, so not sure if the CP3 deal would have been possible (assuming it wouldn’t have been vetoed as well). Also no Bynum, so no Dwight Howard, probably.

This lineup would have been absolutely insane

With Kobe pushing him, we’d have gotten Olympics Melo. Damn. Would’ve been a 3rd trophy for that era

That is another chip. What a fucking timeline. Melo would have had a ring.

  5. Would have been a great lineup, though feels like slightly ahead of its time. Bynum was essential in getting the chips, even as hobbled as he as. The Dwight year didn’t work out, but defensive bigs were so necessary in the late 00s/early 10s. I just don’t see Pau/Nene being able to hang defensively in the playoffs.

I’ll never forgive Stern for what he did to us. This trade sounds great, but you know what else sounded great? CP3, Kobe, and then Bynum/stuff for Dwight. Would have been an epic team for that era.

  7. Cap. I also remember in 2014 we had a FA meeting with Melo and also Lamarcus Aldridge but they both decline, but it’s good it went that way cause the Warriors dynasty was rising so it didnt matter

Damn Mitch really tried his best to maximize Kobe down the stretch. That veto did us in.

  9. I don’t think it would have been enough to beat the thunder, spurs or the Heat in the finals.

He says the deal was done and then he says the Nuggets turned it down. So the deal wasn’t done.
