I’m so glad most users here are calling out Kenny Smith for his toxicity

As an older fan, I’m so glad the younger generation and most users here are actually calling out Kenny for his bullshit comments. I have my moments of the old man yelling at cloud memes, but Kenny portrayed straight loser behaviour.

You have a Sabrina who went toe to toe with the consensus GOAT shooter of all time, actually went back to the NBA line, competed like a dog and all Kenny Smith could think about was how to undermine her in the moment.

He’s also a fucking idiot with the womens tee and mens tee comment because if you actually play golf, you’ll realize how dated that concept is and that LPGA golfers could wipe the floor with 99% of amateurs, despite a distance distance disadvantage.

Like it was a great display by both Sabrina and Steph, it was all positive vibes, and this asshole tried to ruin it. She absolutely put on a show. Lets be honest about the pressure she was facing too, you and I know that if she had a bad performance, some of the dumbest smooth brain idiots would be foaming at the mouth to saw how much better men are as well.

Comparison is the thief of joy.

Imagine any of your athletic feats you have accomplished in HS or College, and the first thing someone says is “oh yeah but it’s not against professional athletes”. Like what the fuck is the point of that?

Can’t we just appreciate instead of trying to find ways to downplay it?

*I don’t agree with Reggie Miller all the time but honestly props to him for actually putting Kenny in check. [Video of Reggie actually calling Kenny out for his dumbass comments](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE4oXisEJYU)

Honestly was relieved to see the response in here to how ass Kenny was tonight.

  2. Dmanning2

Kenny was saying that the contest was unfair to HER.

  3. Yea Kenny was whack for that shit. They both displayed great professionalism and athleticism. Why mock anyone? why disparage anyone?

Kenny had too much energy tonight in all the wrong spots. Its like someone gave him a double dose of Adderall and told him he needed to vamp more or something.

  4. prezdizzle

Should have had Rebecca Lobo or some other WNBA commentators on, get Kenny to the retirement home

  5. PusseySleigher

Im so glad Reggie is there to dispel Kenny’s BS lol even Reggie haters are thanking him

  6. Ok-Tree4365

Yeah, it’s time to replace these dudes, and definitely not with Draymond Green. There have to be some personalities out there that are passionate about the (current) game and be humorous at the same time. I don’t care if they’re younger – they just have to have fresh and informed takes. Inside the NBA has been moldy for a minute.

  7. Worried-Ad1266

Reggie’s sister and mom played basketball, so it makes sense why he kept checking him.

  8. Platinum-Peasant22

How is this different than Kenny when he is on TNT? They could literally fire him tomorrow and the show would be instantly better.

  9. Toronto_Once_July2

His stupid all star party is making his head big and he’s feeling himself. His all star commentary hasn’t been decent since Vince Carter (maybe Dwight) but that was 2 decades ago. Time for a new voice

  10. TRCKmusic

I just watched the highlights (3pt, steph vs sabrina, and the dunk contest), and every time he says something, it’s annoying AF.

  11. LostNPC01

He is also at the center of humiliating the guy with all the shooting records on TNT. Don’t remember the name but he was also invited in Gilbert Arena podcast to share his view on the story

  12. Separate_Block_2715

Reggie made it weird by accusing Kenny of 1950’s sexism when he was just saying he didn’t think the contest was truly fair. Kenny was annoying all night but the reaction on this sub to this has been misguided imo.

  13. Lummypix

I think the point Kenny was trying to make was that the smaller ball and shorter range were specifically put in place because women are a bit smaller, so the true test of skill would be Sabrina at the WNBA 3 range vs Steph at the men’s if we’re talking purely skill. I think he is trying to say that her taking on steph at that range is even more impressive than it appears because of the size/strength disadvantage women have. He didn’t make the point very well lol but I think he had good intentions and was actually trying to give Sabrina props

  14. CouncilmanJamm00

    Kenny committed Rwandan genocide! Unbelievable!

  15. itssensei

Pitchfork is raised!! Kenny Smith you bum! We want an apology!

  16. ThorsOccularPatdown

After the Steph & Sabrina contest, I switched over to the alt cast. It was head and shoulders much more pleasant. Usually, I can’t stand Lefkoe, but he was good during the dunk contest with Vince and Jamal Crawford. Vince was like a dunking professor on the broadcast great insight, especially since it was his 1st contest he’s been at in years. Top it off, there was no hate coming from Vince or Jamal.

  17. Absolutely underrated point there of the pressure on Sabrina’s shoulders. Mountains more pressure than your average NBA player stepping into a 3 point contest.

And she fucking nailed it. Incredible.

  18. Kenny’s entire career is being carried by others. Hakeem when playing, now Ernie, Shaq, and Chuck. He’s by far the least relevant, adds nothing to the show, and is the only replaceable member. But yet he acts like he’s one of the all time great PGs. Wish I could must just him.

  19. yakkabrori

I don’t understand why he’d act like that? It would’ve been to easy for him to just be happy about the great performances

  20. JurgenFlippers

Kenny does not need to be fired. He is a really good ambassador and a great part of the NBA. But people checking him is good cause it also allows people to see the simple ways that men can easily still (by not even on purpose) push women’s sport further down. People can easily make mistakes it’s all good! But just do a bit better and learn. That’s really it.

  21. AdComprehensive7879

i agree and hopefully this opinion is shared among fans, not just this reddit sub, who as we can admit, can be sort of an echo chamber.

  22. UncircumciseMe

I was actually texting my buddy saying he seemed drunk during the dunk contest lol

  23. edwardWBnewgate

Damn, I came to this sub thinking Kenny was cooking tonight with the commentary, he and Reggie were entertaining me the whole night.

  24. getbackup21

Dude was fucking hilarious yall are weird

  25. GalaadJoachim

Kenny brings small dick energy everywhere he goes.

  26. ObeseKenyan

I noticed it 5 years ago, but Kenny’s arrogance gets high key swept under the rug because he’s around Shaq and Charles so much. He’s the quiet one compared to those 2 completely enormous personalities.

But when I saw him on a breakfast club interview 5 years ago I thought – geez I never saw Kenny as a 6’3″ arrogant former pro athlete. On TNT he hardly seems arrogant because Shaq is in the same room. Lol

  27. Calm the fuck down. Kenny was *defending* Sabrina against the bullshit narrative that she had to shoot from the NBA line to make it “fair” by saying she should have shot from the line she’s used to.

Reggie came hard with his “boundaries” nonsense and a bunch of you dumbasses fell for it.

  28. Hot_Web493

She was facing the most pressure out of all the shooters. And she fucking took it like a champ.

  29. Sabrina shot at a disadvantage on the NBA line in a venue arguably where most don’t know who she is or thinks she’ll suck and got a 26. I legitimately thought this was a great event and first time a WNBA player earned some legit respect in mainstream sports fans eyes

  30. tomatoefarts

It’s almost like men and women are different

  31. thegoodbadandsmoggy

Reggie made a good point about it being her off-season and Kenny had to go off about that shooters shoot bullshit. Stfu you coat tail riding bum

  32. dumbledorky

I’m glad Reggie was there to smack some sense into Kenny, but they needed to cut Kenny’s mic entirely. He ruined the broadcast. Even before the Steph/Sabrina shootout he was yelling nonsense the entire time and shitting on every contestant and shooter, and after the shootout he and Reggie were arguing the rest of the night. TNT should be embarrassed that nobody got that under control.

  33. Electronic-Doctor110

I think Kenny feels ownership of the all star contest commentary due to right place right time with the VC dunk that he captioned and went down in infamy with. The Sabrina thing was out of bounds especially considering she chose a tougher route shooting from the nba 3 pt line. The whole weekend needs to be reimagined with a fresh set of contests and voices. Please no more LED court either, keep it simple man.

  34. Illustrious-Watch672

Kenny Smith serves as a clear example that marrying and loving a woman doesn’t necessarily equate to respecting them entirely. He seems to reserve respect for only a select few individuals he’s close to.

In contrast, Reggie demonstrates greater empathy, likely influenced by his sister’s involvement in sports (and overall he’s just a good dude). However, Kenny’s behavior suggests a lack of education and refinement; wealth doesn’t guarantee class.

It’s disheartening to witness someone speak on air without considering the impression they leave on young female viewers worldwide. This reflects poorly on the sports community. While I’ve always found Kenny irritating, recent events confirm he’s also very disrespectful.

  35. Chuckyducky6

I skipped that shooting segment entirely

  36. Man y’all going really hard. I wonder if y’all will even remember this next week lol

  37. This is an issue that’s only going to get worse. I love the TNT guys, they’ve been the best in sports, but having a bunch of old heads get paid to yell at clouds has diminishing returns. I used to think Shaq picking on kids in the league was cringe but this took it to a new level.

  38. 75Almanac

Poor Kenny. This guy is always the most milquetoast personality and least funny member on NBA on TBT, trying so hard to seem like the smart, cool older brother of the group that he ends up being fodder for the other three to dunk on. Then last night, when he had a chance to show some actual basketball IQ and personality, he gives us smug asshole who thinks he’s clever but is actually bitter and quite the opposite of funny. He was such a colossal tool that it was hard to listen to at times. Reggie was great in the way he continuously checked him, though. That was great to listen to.

  39. wafflehouse4

shaq and kenny and both narcissistic morons but shaq is funny sometimes at least. thats why the steam room is such a good podcast because ernie and charles are actual human beings so they dont need the other two

honestly i like the alt tnt lineup now too with carter lefkoe candace crawford because they have legit basketball discussions. i only like the main crew for ernie and barkley

  40. Even last year during the dunk contest he was shitting on Mac McClung. He just feels the need to downplay other peoples achievements and its exhausting

  41. Kmans106

Yo if anything this has made me realize how lucky we are to have Reggie. Dude is class and great at his job.

  42. GhostRevival

Kenny was hating hard on the Pacers too lol. Probably because he was with Reggie.
