I thought the East v West format coming back was fun, but I think they had it better with the draft format. This year’s game was boring as HELL, I actually turned it off around midway through the 2nd quarter. I’m not entirely sure what will convince these dudes to compete harder, but clearly the IST compels them to put more effort in if there’s some cash behind it.

This game was straight garbage man, wtf was wrong with the 2020 type thing they were doing when you had to hit certain points to win and guys tried more. Adam silver was given a made league at its peak and he’s slowing been fucking it up, it’s been down hill since guys like Kobe and kg Duncan retired, that era of players cared about everything, add cp3 type guys too

The players don’t care anymore. Everyone can see players across the league on social media (even on YouTube 15 years ago). Players load manage more and are more protective of their images. Almost all All Star events suck because of it. 3 point contest is low enough stakes to them that stars will participate.Â
Unless ASG or dunk contest gives out cash like the IST, players won’t try. League won’t give up right away on All Star because it makes the NBA seem more legit with cities competing to host a yearly event (like how NFL has the Super Bowl, but not that similar).Â
Ultimately, I think the future of All Star break will just be the selections and no more events.Â

If DLO was there, it would’ve been different. He would’ve competed and played hard, that energy would’ve been transferred over to the rest of the all stars.

The only events that were worth watching were the 3pt shooting contests – regular and Curry vs Ionescu. The players don’t put any effort in the other events.
The NBA should just cancel and give the players the week off to rest and recover for the 2nd half of the season. The players are complaining an 82 game season is tiring and asking for a 67 game season. Maybe this entire week off would be a good compromise.
