What Should The Detroit Pistons Rotation Look Like The Rest Of The Year?
Over the last few weeks a big talking point in the Pistons community and even amongst the beat Riders and those who cover the team is the Pistons rotation what should it be set up who should be in the rotation we’re going be talking about that in today’s episode of the lock on Pistons

Subscribe button or leave us a festar review or whatever podcast platform you’re listening to this on that’s another great way to support the podcast I’m really excited about today’s episode and here’s why I’m going to be predicting what I think the Pistons rotation should be after the All-Star
Break spoiler alert it does not go deeper than 10 guys I know Monty Williams may not like that I know he likes going 11 12 deep even after saying himself maybe he shouldn’t go 111 12 deep but I’m going to keep it 10 Deep um when I predict the rotation the second
Segment we’ll talk about the importance of spacing and we’ll bring up some conversations and some points that I think are really really important and really some cool cool stuff some cool details um so stay tuned for that and also later on the podcast we’ll talk
About to stay to have to go um the majority of today’s episode is is inspired by all the questions you guys sent me I asked people to send me questions over the last 24 hours so not answering specific questions and and you know scouting people out but a lot of
These all three of these segments come from the questions you guys asked me um these are the three most asked questions or things that had to do with this so that’s where we get the the idea of today’s episode so let’s go ahead and get right into it so over the last few
Weeks weeks like I said the Pistons rotation has been a big talking point I mean it’s even been today when I got to work I I pull my phone out I go on Twitter and I see that um a Detroit Free Press writer believe Sean Windsor uh wrote an article that
Said um Monty Williams is stunning the Pistons or or or what is it oh lineup Monty Williams lineup decisions are stunting the Pistons I couldn’t believe I saw one of the local you know newspapers one of these places criticizing Monty like that um but yeah it’s been a it’s been a
Pretty big issue for the Pistons over the last few weeks and we talked about in the last episode it’s just really confusing because even Monty himself has come out before games after games before practices after practices like he himself has been saying that the rotation should not be going deeper than
10 he himself has been saying that he doesn’t he shouldn’t be playing as many guys and then he goes out and plays a lot of guys like it’s he he says things that you know at times are right and then goes against them and it’s not like
It’s one of us saying it he’s saying it himself so that’s what that’s I said this a few weeks ago I think in early January that that was one of the most puzzling things to me of the season so far is that Monty will say something
That most of us agree with and then do the complete opposite when it’s game time like I it’s just confusing so like I said I will not be going 12 deep 11 deep with the rotation I’m going to go 10 Deep and one could argue that maybe
The Pistons are go nine deep because playing your best players more is probably the best idea that’s usually how it goes but we’ll go 10 Deep so the starting lineup that I would go with here um I’m gonna go with Kade Ivy fonio assar and Duren that that’s the five I
Feel comfortable with right now um I’ve said this multiple times on the podcast I I say it non-stop the main priority for the Detroit Pistons the rest of the year is finding out how well their core four can work out now it’s going to be there’s going to be some bumps in the
Road but the goal is I’m recording this on the 19th the goal is that on February 19th all the way to the end of the season that they are playing better together they have figured out at least a little bit how to play together and there’s there’s light at the end of the
Tunnel with that by the end of the year now if they look just as bad today as they do at the end of the year okay then there’s some problems but the the goal is not to be a championship level team by the end of the year with those core
Four Guys the goal is to look better and to show promise and to show ways that they can they can work together and can play together that should be the number one priority so I’m keeping those four in the starting lineup together and the guy I I feel most comfortable playing
With those guys to provide spacing is fonio he’s played well over the last few games with the Detroit Pistons um he’s very aggressive he is taking a lot of shots he is very aggressive I don’t think he’s shooting that great from Beyond The Arc but he’s aggressive he’s
Looking for a shot um I like his ability to excuse me I like his ability to attack closeups um so I think he is the guy I’d go with to start next to assar in the the front court with Darren so that’s the the the the starting five
That I would go with now the back of five there’s going to be two different answers I have here if Isaiah Stewart is playing at all the rest of the year now we haven’t heard anything about whether he’s going to get suspended or not for what happened a before the game against the
Phoenix Suns for those of you guys who don’t know we’re not going to dive into it I don’t really want to talk about it but before the game against the Phoenix Suns he was arrested um for apparently punching Drew Eubanks after they both got face to face um and he apparently
Punched Drew Eubanks and he got arrested for now he wasn’t you know he wasn’t spending a night in jail or anything he was let go but um I’m going to assume that he’s going to get get a suspension for that now we haven’t heard anything
About it yet I would be shocked if he didn’t get a suspension for that and I’d be shocked to be honest if he didn’t get a pretty lengthy suspension but let’s just assume Stu is here he’s healthy and he you know he’s in the rotation he’s
Playing the five I would have backing up is Stu mascala Grimes and this is where it gets interesting I would go Sasser Milton because I don’t want Sasser to be the point guard I I I want Sasser to be off guard off the ball
Um and he can he can be on ball trying to score but I don’t want him being the one trying to run your offense I don’t believe that’s what he can do I don’t think that’s his strength I think his strength is looking to get a bucket
Looking to get to the rim looking to get to his floater looking to get those step back threes off and provide spacing like I think that’s what sasser’s role is and that’s what everyone likes about everyone isn’t in love with Sasser because he’s great at running an offense
Everyone isn’t in love with Sasser because he’s a tremendous playmaker like that’s not his game so if I can get a guard next to him to kind of run the offense and allow him to just focus on scoring that’s what I would do now the other argument is to play Troy Brown Jr
And look I I’m interested in him I think he’s a I think he’s an interesting player an inter interesting rotation player but with the way the Piston’s rotation is lined up me personally I don’t think this is what Monty’s going to do I think he’s going to have Troy Brown in there and
Not play Milton and play Sasser at point guard I would not want to play Sasser at point guard I’d put in Milton and then Troy Brown would have to be the guy out or I could see Monty just taking out muscala running super small and having St Troy Brown Grimes Sasser Milton like
I could see him going super small and doing something like that potentially um but if it was up to me I would not put SAS point guard I would bring in Milton and have Troy Brown fighting for a minutes elsewhere um if Stu is
Out if Stu is out I think you should be running muscala at the five and then Grimes Troy Brown Jr Sasser and Milton which I think we have seen at least a few minutes of them together we have seen them go super small with those four guys maybe not
With muscala but we have seen them go with those four guys together before um so I think that’s definitely an option but at full strength what I would do I’d start with Kade iy fonio assar durran and then I’d go with Milton Sasser Grimes muscala Stu that’s what I would
Do and whether you want to have Stu at the five or muscala at the five I think they’re really interchangeable you just want one being the five defensively and one being the five offensively basically uh that that’s you know you’d want muscala probably spacing the floor than
Stu running the pick and roll in that situation or maybe you can even go five out offensively and then have Stu play the five defensively like they’re really interchangeable at that point on defense I’d say offensively you probably want muscala being the one providing the spacing and St kind of taking advantage
Of it which we’ve talked about in the episode before how having that spacing with Stu kind of helps make his finishing around the rim easier for him he’s not rotating into you know diving to the basket into a help Defender every time because guys don’t want to leave
With scotla guys don’t want to leave in this scenario like a a Sasser or a Grime and stuff like that so but I do expect Stu will probably get suspended we’ll wait to see what happens with that if that does happen um I’d go small and
Just put muscala at the five and with those four guys we were talking about I’m going to assume Monty pie would then play James wisman um in place of stew and either put muscala at the four and then not play Milton and put Sasser at the point guard and have Grimes and Troy
Brown or I could see him just go super small around James wisman and go Grimes Brown Jr Sasser and Milton like I could see that happening too but yeah that’s my prediction of the rotation what do you guys want to see the rotation look like do you guys want to see Sasser as
The backup point guard or would you guys rather see him just as you know the microwave scoring guard Off the Bench let me know in the comment section down below or over on Twitter oh also you guys can let me know do you guys agree with the starting lineup would you guys
St if he was here if he’s healthy if he’s available or would you guys continue to start assar maybe you start Stu with assar let me know what you guys think about all that comment section down below or over on Twitter at Cy Hill when we come back this is a conversation
That I think is going to be incredibly insightful and I’m really looking forward to talking about it I I I love this kind of stuff I think it’s super important especially for a team like the Detroit Pistons maybe not other teams not as much other teams but especially
Teams like the Pistons I think this is an incredibly important segment I’m really really excited to talk about it um so stay in tuned for that coming up grammarly is your AI writing partner to help you communicate more effectively and efficiently so you can make a bigger

Is a conversation that I think I’ve been whether we’re hinting towards it or we’ve just straight up talked about it a lot on the podcast maybe not as an in depth as as we’re about to right here but the idea of spacing how important spacing is in the NBA especially in 2024
Okay if you if you go back to you know the 1980s 90s spacing maybe wasn’t as important obviously but in today’s day and age you need space what’s going on with my hat I I’ve like completely messed up my hat my hat’s like all off balance like what’s I just can’t fix it
It it is what it is I have it messed up it is what it is um anyways in the 1990s 80s whatever heck even in the early 2000s mid 2000s spacing wasn’t I would say great when you watch those games but in 2024 obviously spacing is absolutely
Huge it’s very very important and I think a lot of misconceptions about spacing is that it only the only way you can create spacing is with Shooters and that’s just not true at all it’s not true at all first of all there’s there’s things called vertical spacing where you can create
Spacing as like a uh what What’s the word I’m looking for my goodness um as as as like a a rolling big man as a lob threat those guys can’t shoot most guys most L threats can’t shoot but they are creating spacing because they have gravity for example like uh you can go
Back to even like Andre Drummond’s Prime with the Detroit Pistons heck you even see it happen with Jaylen dur n times but let’s go back to when the Pistons were making the or at least made the playoffs ready Jackson and Andre Drummond Drummond didn’t provide spacing
As a shooter but he provided spacing as a roller because when he would rolled to the rim he was such an insane lab threat that guys would have to suck in and defend it guys would have to help down and what does that create that creates spacing and creates open passing Lanes
To get to your Shooters which is what SVG built the Pistons offense on it was around the pick and roll with Reggie Jackson and then he surrounded them with Shooters whether it’s Casey P Tobias Harris Marcus Morris jod Meeks like all those guys he surrounded them with
Shooters and he used the spacing that Andre created as a lob threat as a pick and roller obviously readyy Jackson helped make it work because of his ability to score and kick out of it but you get what I’m saying spacing is not just created by being a shooter that’s not the only
Way you create spacing and the most and the best coaches the smartest coaches the most creative offensive coaches know how to utilize that how to create that spacing without having uh Shooters and they know how to make the best offenses possible with their personnel now with saying that you probably know where I’m
Going with this I’ve often said on the podcast multiple times throughout the year that playing Jaylen durran and assar Thompson together should not be a death sentence that should not be an immediate death sentence to your half court offense it just should not be especially when you have Kade Ivy and
Now fonio like Ivy’s become a really good shooter by this point of the year he was struggling a little bit at the beginning of the year he’s completely turned around he’s shooting really well as of late um kad’s improved this year he was shooting around 36% over the last
Like 25 games before his knee injury I know he’s down to I believe around like 34.5% um but he has improved as a shooter and fonio is a shooter so as long as you have Shooters at other positions yes you at some point you need to have a level of three-point value
Like you’re gonna eventually you lose the math game at that point if you don’t get enough threes sub which is why you need those other three guys to be able to shoot threes which they which they can so playing AAR endurance should not be a death sentence but so often this
Year one it has been or two Monty has simply assumed that it would be and has refused to play them until as of late and there’s a lot of talk in the Pistons Community about you know if you play those two guys together you’re just giving up the half court offense it’s
Going to be terrible it’s going to be awful and so far yes it has been that it has been that way but it shouldn’t be and it there are ways around it it’s not simple you know you especially with guys like assar and Duren who are athletic freaks
And great maybe not great but really good Playmakers able to do stuff with the ball in their hands yeah they can’t shoot threes but they can do other stuff if they were like Andre Roberson where they can’t do anything else like now you you can’t shoot you can’t really dribble
You can’t really pass we just got to put you in the corner hope you make some shots like okay that would be a different story these guys are very versatile offensively they just can’t shoot and there’s ways you can make that work what I’m going to reference is this
This is what brought this why I wanted to talk about this I talk about this guy a lot in the podcast I think he honestly I’m not joking when I say this I think JJ reck is probably the best NBA media member we have I think he does an
Absolutely tremendous job breaking down the game and breaking down the ex’s of nose to a in a way that allows casuals to understand and and people who Maybe aren’t like detail Freaks and you know all that kind of stuff who are just casual fan he breaks it down I think
Tremendously and he is not just simple X and O’s either I think he breaks down some complex things that are super easy so I’m getting it from JJ reic it started two days ago two days ago and then he dropped something again today that really just continues to enforce my
Point so a few days ago he recorded with Tyrese haliburn and tyres hurn brought up there was a play that Quinn Snider Drew up Quinn Snider the the the coach of um the Atlanta Hawks he said there was a play that he drew up that was just
Fantastic and it caught his eye and they were like oh my God this was a tremendous play and the the play itself is not what I’m talking about that play is is a different type of um action but what it ended up devolving into was JJ reick
Talking about how Quinn Snyder does a tremendous job of creating spacing with non-shooters and one of the examples that JJ brought up is that you know you can usually when you run delay action which basically is five out and you have the center in the middle of the court
And the center in the the the the center count just throws it’s a delay he throws it to the point guard and they run like a pick and roll whatever usually happens from that middle of the Court like JT was was explaining Quin Snider runs it but not
With the five in the middle of the quarter he’ll put the five on the opposite slot or the opposite Wing in that area like the slot Wing area he’ll put the the that big on the opposite side and then he’ll run the delay action on the opposite wing with one of the other
Non-shooters and way reason why that creates spacing is now this guy who’s guarding the center it’s not much but you’re bringing that guy who’s defending the center just a little bit farther away just a little bit farther away from the action and now that’s all the space
You need to get someone going downhill with more spacing whereas if you for example if you run it like towards the middle with Duren let’s just use the Pistons for example if you run it with durran in the middle of the Court you just throw assar in the corner his guy’s
Just sitting there at the corner it’s just another way a little wrinkle of trying to help create that spacing create just a little bit more spacing and this is an action that they could want 100% run with the Detroit Pistons they could 100% run with thear
And Duran put Duren in the opposite slot run it with assar get assar rolling downhill and with a with a late I’d say you’d get like a late contest from whoever’s guarding Duran and he’s going downhill he’s probably gonna get filed or he has a better chance of finishing
Because that’s how Elite of an athlete assar is also he’s able to make re going downhill it’s just another way to create spacing so that’s just one action there’s many different ways you can do but that’s just another that’s just one example of a coach who knows how to
Utilize spacing create spacing with non-shooters another guy um that JJ reic has talked a lot about is the Utah Jazz the Utah Jazz they do it Hardy they do a great job of creating spacing with Walker Kessler and another non-shooter out there without again without them being Shooters and their offense not
Falling apart their offense is still fine they run different type of actions so that’s first and then second today he dropped an episode with the dunker spot guys with is Nikas Duncan and Steve Jones both those guys are tremendous as well and they were talking about the New
Orleans Pelicans now before we even talk about this I do want to say off the bat assar is not Zion okay I’m not claiming that assar is Zion that’s let’s not you know let’s not be let’s not troll here that’s obviously not what I’m saying but
The way you use the actions the the idea behind it can be used and applied to assar so they were talking about how you know how the the Pelicans have been playing really well as of late and JJ talked about how they’ been using Point Zion where they have Zion bring up the
Bring up uh the ball up the court and how that’s been great for the Pelicans he goes on in this it’s like a five minute clip he goes on to talk about the spacing of putting a guy like Zion who’s not he’s just not going to
Shoot and if he does the defense is just not going to respect him the difference between putting him in the corner just you know just putting him in the corner or putting him in the dunker spot and just having him sit there how that affects spacing versus getting him
Involved in actions and he goes through about five to six different ways you can you can utilize guys like that to create um to create spacing with guys like that he often talked about how they utilize it with Zion and Jonas valunas on the floor and they work fine together both
Of them not shooting threes like that yonas may attempt some but he they’re not like he’s not like a this floor spacer okay that’s the point and the ways he breaks it down is you know taking taking the ball from the defensive off a defensive rebound and pushing in transition he talks about
Running empty side uh pick and roll with that player he talks about uh what’s what’s another one of those oh ghost screens having having assar bring the ball up or having assar get the ball at the top of the key I’m obviously substituting assar with Zion here
Running ghost screens with like a a j j iy like imagine if I’ve talked about this at the beginning of the year imagine if they run ran inverted pick and roll or some G screens with Jaye Ivy where Jaye Ivy’s running up and iy actually setting the screen looking like
He’s about to set the screen and then ghosting out flaring to the corner or to the wing now you either have have aar’s Defender trying to get over a screen that’s not there now he’s off balance or a late switch that’s causing him to to freak out because now you have Ivy IM
Meatly rotating out to the wing you get a sar rolling downhill against a retreating Defender like there’s all kinds of ways I’m going to link this video that JJ talks about he breaks all these he literally comes up with like six to seven ways that the Pelicans are using
Zion to create spacing despite the fact he can’t shoot and the overall point I’m not going to go through all the other ones cuz this segment’s already going on a lot longer than than maybe it should have the overall point of the segment was that the Pelicans are doing a
Tremendous way of create they they are creating a way to utilize and create spacing with Zion and another non-shooter without them just needing to shoot threes themselves and I’m going to link it in in the description below the end the overall point of what I’m trying
To say here is there are multiple ways plenty of ways to utilize guys who are not Shooters and again like I said if you are Andre Roberson where you can’t do anything else offensively that is a huge problem you have to be able to shoot that but with guys like ad Duran and
Assar who are both tremendous athletes who are both really good Playmakers who are who both move really well who both are very smart players it should not be hard at all to run an offense with those guys but like JJ rdck talks here and like he’s talked many times with Quinn
Snyder with World Hardy with the Pelicans recently when you just put put the non- shooter in the corner you are screwing the spacing up and you’re effectively playing Five on four you’re not you’re you’re not utilizing that player’s talents you’re not utilizing everyone’s on the floor’s talents and
You’re making life harder on everyone on the floor and you’re bailing out the defense there’s no reason why we should continue to see assar Thompson just planted in the corner on offense in the half court there’s no reason for it he’s too talented he’s too versatile same
Thing with Duren there are creative ways to get it going and it’s not I’m not just making this up we have real life examples of other teams and other coaches that do it that know how to I just named three of them that JJ has talked about in his podcast numerous
Times in Will Hardy and Quinn Snyder and Willie Green like these guys are doing it it’s perfectly reasonable and within every Fan’s right and everyone who’s watching the Pistons to ask Monty why can’t you do it Monty you should be doing it there is no reason why Duran and assar should be completely
Unplayable together now am I sitting here saying they’re going to have the best offense or or they’re gonna have an offense at the level of the Pelicans no but they shouldn’t be 89 points per 100 possessions like that’s not should that’s not what they should be they
Shouldn’t be the worst offense in the league simply because you’re putting assar in the corner like that’s that can’t be it that can’t be the answer here it shouldn’t be the answer there are ways around it there are not just ways around it because that makes it
Look like oh God I have to do it it’s such such a hassle no you should be happy this this is this is a good thing that the Pistons have four guys who are all really smart athletic great Playmakers who are who are able to get paint touches and create for others that
Should be something that your offense should be built around like that that should be a a A plus that should be a problem for defens to handle not a hassle that you have to deal with i i that’s it we’ll wrap it up there we’ll
Wrap it up there I’m gonna link the the the five minute clip to what I’m talking about with what JJ breaks down it was a tremendous clip I tried my best to explain it here but JJ probably does a better job so I’ll put it in the in the
In the bio below um but let me know what you guys think about this let me know what you guys think about what we said um when we come back to stay two half to go we’re gonna play a game here um you guys will see what I’m talking about

Pistons hit that subscribe button or leave us a five star review on whatever podcast platform you’re listening to us on that’s another great way to support the podcast that last segment went way went way past what I was expecting it to but I just I think that’s a really
Important discussion and I think it was a really interesting and and important discussion uh for the Pistons in general who have built this team around that ability and they just aren’t using it not trying to get creative with it they’re not taking advantage of it it’s like more of a
Hassle than anything it doesn’t make sense um but anyways moving on to this next segment a lot of you guys there was a few of you guys um the one I saw was from my guy dope who’s been on the podcast before um asked me if you had to
Pick two players from the Pistons core for to keep and two that you had to trade who would you keep and who would you trade now obviously this this segment or this this question me answering this is going to get me killed it’s going to get me absolutely
Obliterated by the fans because no matter what no matter what I say no matter what answer I give someone’s going to be very upset um so I was also asked to rank them in terms of like guys i’ I’d give a super max to um I’m not going to do that I’m
Not gonna do that part because aars and his rookie year it’d be impossible for me to sitay here and say that assar deserves a rookie match at the end of his rookie extens or his rookie contract I it’s just impossible for me to sit here act like that’s something I can
Predict so I’m not going to do that um but I will participate in the two stay two have to go one the one that has to stay no matter what for me is Kade Kade obviously is staying kade’s not going nowhere so it really is just a simple of
You have to pick one of assard Ivy and durren so here’s my thought process there’s one guy that I’m immediately eliminating and the first guy I’m eliminating is Jaylen durren and it’s not because I don’t like Jaylen dur it’s not because I I’m not high on I’m I’m
High on all four of these guys but just for this thought experiment simply for this question the first guy that I’m eliminating is dur again let me make it clear I like dur a lot I’m high on all these guys but for this question I’m immediately eliminating Duran for this
Reason uh this reason why he’s not that good defensively and we’ll see if he develops in that end certainly possibly becomes good he’s only 19 20 years old like but at this point he’s not very good defensively and I feel like the center position is probably the more
Replaceable position in the NBA right now you can like you can go find a guy who maybe can’t do as much as during offensively where it comes to dribble drives or you know is as good of a playmaker as and but you can got you can
Find a big man a five that can roll and be a really good lob threat get rebounds and defend the rim and that would be good enough that that’s useful enough like you can find guys that can do that and you’ll be you’ll be good like simple
As that like a Clint capella Clint capella would work great with K like if you could get a guy like that yeah maybe they won’t be as good as durad his Peak maybe which by the way Clint compell is better than dur right now but like at
Everyone assumes obviously that D at his Peak would be better than that he has more tools he has more skills like Etc but you can replace him with a guy like that and you’re like you’ll be good like so that’s why I get rid of D I think
Center position is probably the most replacable you know position you can have unless you have like a yic or obviously but Duran’s not yage anyways so I I I I eliminate Duran so then comes between Ivy and assar and this is why I know I’m going to get people are really
Going to come after me if when the piss drafted assar I felt like assar had the second highest ceiling on the Pistons team I thought it was Cade and then assar and then Ivy that that’s where I was I haven’t this is the problem I haven’t so far seen anything this year
Actually that’s might be a little bit of a lie I thought he’d be a better shooter out the gate he shot from the NBA range at otte I did not expect him to shoot 15% I saw I expect him to shoot like 28% like somewhere around there I thought
That would happen but 15 I did not see that from assar so I am much lower on his ability to potentially shoot in the NBA that so that’s fair so that maybe should change it for me this is so I’ll just take you through my thought
Process with Cade having a guy at the at the wing position in AAR who is a two-way guy who is going to be great defensively I think for a long time and I think has extreme potential offensively as a playmaker as a secondary playmaker um can run the offense eventually finisher athletic can
Finish off oops can drive to the rim a constant paint touch can create for others draw files all that stuff that’s why I’m so high on assar I think he could potentially have the second highest ceiling on the team now when you verse that with Ivy ivy is also an
Automatic paint touch Ivy is also really good at creating maybe I I think Ivan I don’t know where who the edge I’d give to playmaking wise I think AAR has a higher playmaking ceiling but maybe Ivy has them right now um but I think Assa has a higher
Playmaking ceiling either way they both can play make and kick out on drive that’s basically my my point Ivy is a better finisher than assar is right now and assar and Ivy is a much better shooter than assar is right now so he’s just a better offensive player right now
But I think assar has a much higher ceiling than Ivy defensively and I think I assar is already closer to that ceiling to where I don’t think ivy can get even close to that whereas I think while assar may never be a good shooter I think all the other things he brings
To offensively his ceiling is is is high enough in those other areas to make up for that to where his two-way ability eventually outweighs what Ivy just brings offensively that’s that’s that’s my thought process there so I would keep I would keep Kade in assar if I had to
Pick two to stay two to go that’s a tough decision I expect a lot of people to pick Ivy instead I completely understand it’s I completely get it it’s a really tough one I think it’s close but like I said when they drafted assar that’s where my evaluation was at that
And the the shooting is pretty a big deal which is why I had to reconsider but there hasn’t been much else that swayed me off my my original ceiling of assar what I think he could be long term so I’m G stick with it right now maybe
Another year in next year if assar doesn’t take like these these improvements in certain areas I want to see maybe next season I would change I would flip th flip-flap those two guys ivv and assar but I think they’re both really close and I think you can go with
Either answer I like I can you can go with either one just me personally I was really high in assar pre-draft and I haven’t seen enough to make me move off of that so far through the season if you get what I’m saying um so that that
Would be my answer there um but again like I said it’s really close I don’t blame anyone for picking Ivy instead like Ivy is really good too like really good so um that’s all I’ve got for you guys today thank you guys for making lock down Pistons your first listen of

The Detroit Pistons have almost a completely new roster after All-Star Break and it’s going to be interesting to see how exactly head coach Monty Williams decides to plan out his rotation. In today’s episode, we predict what the Pistons’ rotation should look like and why it should no go any deeper than 10 players.

1st Listen…what's good Ku. Whether we agree or disagree, I enjoy your takes. I appreciate your work brother. One thing I know is we both love the NBA and the Detroit Pistons is specific. This season has been a disaster. After watching the All Star game and seeing all the young talent that made it and we're sitting here looking this bad is a complete disappointment. We gotta, gotta get better asap. Great show as always. Keep up the great work. Word up!!
Ausar's shooting is terrible, starting him will stunt the growth of Cade, Jaden, and Jalen. For me, Ausar gets regular minutes off the bench.
The coach and gm still need to go after the season over
Ku, we got a new thing to watch the rest of the season: the Brooklyn Nets. They fired Vaughn and named Kevin Ollie coach; you know, the guy our GM wanted a coach. It will be interesting to see how they close out the season with the coach who should have been leading our young squad.
Praising Quinn Synder, Will Hardy but having Hate and Contempt for Coach Casey is all you need to know about this Brown Clown!
Personally, I keep Cade and Duren if forced to choose. Excellent points though.
Monty Williams is the worst coach since George Irvine
Sasser underrated as a playmaker in my opinion 🤷♂️ there’s been there
Great show Khu!!!
Thanks for taking the arrows on the pick 2 debate.
My knee jerk reaction is to trade Duren first because he is the most likely to be given a bad contract. Not only is his production the easiest to replace, but with the NBA moving towards 3 point shooting, we could see Duren's skillset suddenly not valued like what happened to Drummond.
As a defense first fan it is hard for me to trade Ausar, but he is a project that is years away from competing. But betting the future on Cade and ivey makes sense based upon their proven abilities.
But Cade has been at his best in the PnR. If we want to run a PnR offense, keeping Cade and Duren is the way to go. If we want to attack the rim with a stretch five, Ausar's bad shooting becomes more manageable.
Maybe the Pistons should be building their entire team around Ausar, like the Bucks did with Giannis?
Ivey's defense is a weakness, but his offense makes him very valuable for the Pistons and has a trade asset. But he is passionate about Detroit, while Cade is passionate about being the #1 pick and becoming a superstar. Cade has even more trade value than Ivey, who probably is second in the quality of assets we cold land in a trade.
Building around Cade and Ivey gets us to the playoffs sooner, which is a reasonable goal. But I"m not sure that is the best combo to actually win a title. Ultimately I pick:
Keep Ivey and Ausar
Trade Cade and Duren
I'm surrounding Ivey and Ausar with three point shooters who are also good defenders. I'm also bringing in a better PG than Sasser. I view Sasser as more of a combo guard, or shoot first PG. Ideally we get a long defender like Smart at the backup PG spot.
It would be a travesty if Muscala fell out of the rotation considering at that point we could have kept bagley and our picks and not played him.
I would rather have Umude and Rhoden off the bench then Milton, Brown or Muscala. Grimes is a ?
Asar is your new Killian Hayes He's closer to Stanley Johnson than being a star basketball IQ definitely has to improve you can find good athletes all over United States scoring is what runs the league they just scored 200 points in the All-Star game The league won't let you play defense any longer
i would pick ivey and cade
Poor André Roberson man, guy hasnt been in an NBA game since 2021 and a Pistons podcast telling him he has no offensive fire power aww, but other than that the spacing talk beyond shooting is really interesting! Also, ball security coming off the bench is curious but let's see
