Austin Rivers responds to JJ Redick calling out Doc Rivers for Bucks’ struggles | NBA Today

JJ reck was on first take and he had some hot takes when it came to Doc Rivers and the Bucks I I’ve seen the trend now I’ve seen the trend for years what’s the trend the trend is always making excuses get doc we get it taking over a team in

The middle of the season is hard it’s hard we get it just like getting traded in the middle of season is hard for a player we get it but it’s always an excuse It’s always throwing your team under the bus they lose to Memphis oh it’s his players Memphis was playing G

League guys and two-way guys then you look at his quotes over the weekend now he wants to take credit for the James Harden trade to the Clippers working out he wants credit for that there’s just no there’s never accountability with that guy there’s never accountability Austin we appreciate you actually am

I yes the your your shot is already there chop it or drop uh I have to chop it um I mean first off I don’t feel responsible to take off for my dad he’s a grown man he could do his own thing uh but in this regard I just simply don’t

Agree with it um for someone who’s not accountable he seems to always be held responsible considering he’s a guy that’s always fired when things don’t go right he got fired in the bubble uh for a 3-1 lead versus the Denver Nuggets which in half his team didn’t want to be

There they had players saying that their mind wasn’t there he had guys leave that happened then he gets fired for losing to a team that was favored over him which was the Celtics last year um seems like he’s always responsible it’s just a strange coming from JJ and I have love

For JJ you’re my dookie you know that you’re my bro I love you um it’s just your best years were with the Clippers I don’t think he saved your career I appreciate you Pat but I don’t think it I mean I this just seems a little bit weird they they’re three and

Seven Dame missed most of those games Middleton’s missed a lot of those games they haven’t even had their full team yet we’ll see what happens the pressure is there they do have to perform but in terms of accountability like what are we doing here your best years in the NBA

Were when you played for him in the Clippers let’s not forget that I don’t know if there’s like frustration there or there’s tension there between you I know a lot of times we have had to sit you towards the end of the game due to defensive reasons but you had your best

Years as a starter there especially our whole system was drafted around you cuz you’re a shooter you’re not a guy who could put the ball on the floor you a strictly shoot guy you’re not like Klay Thompson or Steph who could put the ball on the floor you a guy who could catch

And shoot and you did it at a high level hell of a career by the way big fan but your best years were under him it’s just very ironic and kind of weird that you have this energy towards him in terms of him never ever being accountable considering he’s always been responsible

Uh that would be my response look this is simply tough love between our analysts and thank you I just don’t agree with it that’s all want see what they do on the court how about This

  1. Over-emotional JJ: “you always throw your team under the bus” and “never accountable”. Austin’s reply was sound: he got fired, so clearly he was held accountable. What pro coach ever said “I should be fired”. So Austin raised possibility that for JJ it’s personal.

  2. What Austin isn’t seeing here is that despite getting fired, Doc continues to get given these opportunities coaching playoff/championship-built teams that tend to underachieve. He’s never had to finish a head coaching stint and work his way back as an assistant for a couple years before getting another shot with a lottery team.

  3. "We had to sit you"

What, you didn't enjoy the company Austin?

Rivers is 17-33 in closeout games. 17-33. That's impossibly bad, especially when accounting for the absurd ammount of talent he's had the privilege – PRIVILEGE – of coaching.

It's high time the media stops blaming the guys in the shorts and start looking at the guy on the bench. Cause there's only one common thread to all these failures: Glenn. Anton. Rivers.

  4. Clippers 3-1 loss againts the Rockets 2015
    JJ Shooting Stats
    Game 5 36:41MP 9PTS 3-12FG 1-8 from 3 Clippers lost by 21pts
    Game 6 36:21MP 15PTS 4-13FG 3-9 from 3 Clippers lost by 12pts
    Game 7 41:04MP 10PTS 4-12FG 2-9 from 3 Clippers lost by13pts
    JJ made 11-37 shots 6-24 from 3 29%FG%
    Jamal Crawford -65 +/-
    Austing RIvers -48 +/-
The Supporting Cast did not show up on those 3 games
meanwhile in Houston Corey Brewer from the bench dropped 19pts 10Reb in Game 6 just 24min of playtime
You beat those guys almost 20pts in game 1,3 and 4 and after that the Clippers cast had some stinky games

  5. Austin either didn’t understand what JJ was saying or purposefully changed the conversation to try to defend his dad. Bc everything Austin said was about his dad getting fired (by the GM/ owner). Everything JJ said had to do with Doc throwing his players under the bus and not take accountability for himself.
Also said note: it’s hilarious that Austin tries to slip in that “maybe your mad bc WE had to sit you late in games.” When he spent most of his career on the bench lol 😂

  6. Austin was good at… ummm…. not sure what he actually did well. But yeah, he doesn't have a career without his dad unfortunately.

  7. "Got fired in the bubble". 🤷🏾‍♂️Your dad was with the Clips for 7 yrs had more power than Ty Lue has and STILL ACCOMPLISHED less all across the board. Aye he got you that check tho *salute. 🤡

  8. DOC HAS BLOWN OVER 4 3-1 Leads. not a championship coach. Needs to retire. JJ has never been more right.

  9. Respect to this guy. Although he is Docs son, he just humbly defends his dad and no unnecessary attacks against JJ. The value of Duke education.

  10. Doc should just learn sometime to not say anything is the best reply to these media ppl. Sometime throwing someone under the bus means that the tide can turn and you can be on the receiving end of being thrown under the bus.

  11. Bruh rivers points have nothing to do with anything. Dude Said he holds accountability by getting fired…..that has nothing to do with each other.
And neither does jj's best years.
Also every single person on espn should have to watch a segment or an nba game before speaking about it….

Half the time they give their opinions on things they know nothing about.

At the very least have a bad opinion on something you've seen instead of a bad opinion on something you havnt.

  12. If you have a good friend and can’t agree to disagree that’s not a good friend. Friends always have differences

  13. For people that don’t know he said “you’re my dukie “ both attended duke not dookie 💩 😂😂
