In reality, ‘Tobi’ is an achingly mediocre ball-stopping iso player who can take advantage of a size mismatch in spurts against mostly poor, smaller defenders but cannot sustain excellence for the course of an entire half – let alone an entire game. Very average as an on-ball defender w/ the occasional flourish ( vs garland ) and very damaging as a team-guy; His softness around the rim & slowness are toxic on both ends imo…He is not a player who ‘selflessly adapts or enhances weaknesses’ like his fawning media-reputation suggests
Playing with embiid requires qualities that Tobias has simply not cultivated during his tenure- intelligence – quick & sound instincts / decisiveness, range-shooting accuracy n’ volume, toughness, athleticism, confidence..
Tobias is not a good shooter and this consensus-idea that he spaces the floor is simply inaccurate. He doesn’t shoot w/ volume because he is not a good nba three point shooter. Opposing defenses do not fear tobias’ three point shooting.
Tobias’ inability to do role-player things at a competent level takes so much off the table & impairs the overall unit – atrocious rebounder, horrific finisher, an offensive-foul machine in transition, non-existent or putrid passing, the lateral quickness of a medicated sloth, chris farley was far more agile.
The guy is unwatchable and has the peripheral vision of a blind-folded stevie wonder..The irony being that his availability is one of his most undeniable features, all while actively making his teams worse for the majority of his minutes..
‘For once in my life’ get this guy off this team. Based on Morey’s track record, i refuse to believe he values ‘tobi’ highly & my working theory is that they want to use his outgoing salary in a sign & trade this off-season. This team is better without him and i hope the legit sixer fans have felt this way for years.
