[Smith] I am 100 per cent sure that Olynyk and Quickley have deals in place, the question about Trent is going to be cost, the number of years and whether others are able to do what he does at a lower salary. And I don’t get any read on how either side feels right now.

This obsession with Olynyk makes zero sense.
bruce is the only player we’re looking to trade
I doubt we let Trent walk for nothing so as long as its a reasonable contract im down to keep him but we’ll probably try trading him next chance we get
I feel like if we go at a developmental approach putting dick in his place and drafting newer guys to take gradeys place is somewhat ideal and we save some money for the time being or sign him and once again use him as trade bait but I guess we’ll see come off season
If he continues this fairly decent defensive streak he’s been having and can sustain a consistent 3 point shot, I’m almost certain that, with his young age in mind, there will be plenty of people who’d want him in free agency for the price he’d like, without a doubt.
Personally I’d love him to stay even with the price he’d like. I don’t think his asking price is some sort of cap killer like people are panicking about. That, and I’m curious to see how he’ll do with this current roster under Darko now that the trade deadline is gone and over with.
People are clamoring for Gradey to be the starter, but I actually like him coming off the bench.
I am not 100% sure but I have little doubt Trent will be allowed to walk. I believe their plan now that they’ve acquired Ochai is to see what he can do and I do not think with a rebuilding team there is any way they put obstacles in his path to playing time.
With Gary off the books what kind of cap space will we have? Like 40 million?
Does that mean Pascal could sign with us? Lol is that even allowed?
If you can pay him 10mil then sure or even 3×15?
I mean we sign Trent if he’s the best player we can sign. If there are better options let him walk, I think it’s clear he is a bench level player in the NBA.
it’s kinda wild that he can underperform all year but still play his way into big $$$ over the last 25 games
GOODBYE
Yes, those are the key questions when it comes to literally any contact negotiation lol
Cost and years wow didn’t know contracts worked like that, thanks Doug /s
Just make sure Trent passes the ball on the fast break to a more open shot or better finisher like last game in ATL and not be a train wreck when driving to the basket
Gary Trent Jr this season:
* -3.1 BPM (the worst of any regular starter on the team)
* -0.4 VORP (worst of any player who’s played significant minutes for us)
* .547 true shooting (worst of any regular starter; notably, worse than Gradey Dick)
* 52% on wide open threes. *30%*, that’s right, three oh, on *open* threes (closest defender within four to six feet). He’s shooting two of those per game. Only OG Anunoby and Scottie Barnes have shot more of this kind of shot than him; OG is noticeably better at them.
* Players that shoot open threes at a significant rate and make them at a better rate than GTJ: Bruce Brown, Dennis Schroder, Gradey Dick, Malachi Flynn, OG Anunoby, RJ Barrett. Even Chris Boucher is shooting these at a rate of 31% on 0.9 attempts per game. This is why GTJ is inconsistent; if you guard him halfway decently, he wilts.
GTJ is the ‘he trick y’all’ of offense. He goes off when he’s not being guarded well, but he’s inefficient when he is. He’ll drop 25 against weak defensive teams, often in blowout wins, but disappear in tight games when you need him. He’s an inefficient play finisher who makes poor use of advantages created by other players.
His rim finishing and passing games are weak, so he often goes to a sidestep three as a counter to hard closeuts… and he rarely makes those. I think he’s a guy whose counting stats and highlights will inflate his value and make him a poor deal. I view GTJ as a sub 10m a year player who will probably manage to sign a much bigger deal in the offseason… I don’t think it should be with us.
They should have made a decision on Gary at last year’s deadline. I don’t understand why our FO lets every contract get down to the wire.

Yeah well but look at my Dick banner
Gary was useful as a two way player before his defense fell off a cliff the past 2 seasons. Mediocre defending bench scorers are a dime a dozen.
