Remember when Fred Jones won the 2004 Dunk Contest on a layup?

20 years ago Pacers guard Fred Jones won the 2004 Dunk Contest by default two-time Dunk champ Jason Richardson entered the night as the favorite but Fred played spoiler thanks to botch dunks and some questionable scoring like this 50 for a routine slam off the bounce meanwhile Pretty Ricky Davis got

Just a 45 for this and the Birdman Chris Anderson looking like JJ Watt was awarded just 42 for this thankfully J Rich had to the finals with an East Bay off the glass and we should have called it there final round Jones throws down another 50 off the bounce good extension

J Rich tries to counter but he can’t complete this crazy dunk attempt he just does something else gets a 45 so it’s Fred’s to lose a solid dunk wins it nope Jay Rich Is Alive a simple 44 hands him his third straight dunk crown and he misses again contest over Fred wins

Let’s never talk about this again

The 2004 NBA Slam Dunk Contest was a weird one. #nba #nbaallstar #dunks #dunkcontest #fredjones #pacers #nbashorts #shorts #basketball

  1. This is classic information here! Hey, Didn’t Fred Jones have a small stint with the Raptors a couple season later?

  2. Fred being 6'2 who could dunk with the best of them is why he won tht year! Not his fault JRich tried to do something tht could only be done once in a lifetime! Props to Fred Jones

  3. Damn i always loved jrich back in the day as a dunker, but this is even better than i remember.

360 honey dip is an insane dunk and it looked doable for him

  4. Pure blasphemy those scores. All those dunks would blow out anything we’ve seen since the last AG/ZL dunk contest. Ohhh times have changed …pretty quick

  5. I remember this. I think this win would’ve meant a 3peat for J-Rich in the dunk contest. He got robbed!

  6. Best part is, that’s not even the worst dunk contest of all time 😂 you could argue it was the miss-fest in recent years or that it was the one Kobe won

  7. Vince Carter had one of the best performances in dunk contest history (only behind Aaron Gordon imo) but J Rich was a top 3 dunker, man could fly

  8. This is why I laugh whenever the yearly "dunk contest is bad now" its always been bad. For every good dunk contest there are like 5 that were trash.
