Kyrie Irving: Celtics Fans Have the RIGHT to Boo Me | Mavericks Postgame Interview
8179 you guys were making a run just kind of pulled away what what happened in that stretch and why could you guys kind of keep up with it uh I mean they were making threes and they had what 30 plus assists tonight so they were doing
A good job of uh spreading us out and uh attacking specific matchups and every time we got within close it seems like they would hit two threes or three threes create separation or get to the free throw line so they’ve been showing it all season um and for the fast few
Seasons they’ve been showing how um good of a team they are together how well they play off each other you were after the last game in Dallas you said you were looking forward to facing the beginning getting kind of a litus test what is what is this tell you about you
Guys this uh I mean this road trip or just this game this road trip and yeah this this game was high intense High emotions um you know Battle of two of the best teams in the league and uh you can tell that uh some of the mental
Mistakes and also the mistakes that we made on offensive defense they took advantage of it and it was a litness test um but it’s just a regular season game at the end of the day and we’re not going to take it uh too far you know we
Got to get ready for a good game against the Sixers on Sunday um but we just take our lessons man just grow from it you get booed when you touch the ball does that motivate you at all does do you even hear it when yeah I mean it’s in an
Arena man um a lot of detentions on me um in terms of just the fandom has been six years got to love it um but rightfully so they have a right to boo and you know for my career record against them for the last few games
Haven’t won so till I beat them then they have all the right to to continue to boot I think that’s what makes the theatrics of sports and competitive Sports fun and just got to embrace it you know it’s part of it in terms of like seeing Jason and Jaylen grow and
And getting to that what what’s that process like from from the outside after beting their teammates when they were younger uh I mean they’ve they’ve learned how to uh accept that fail is part of the journey and that every season is going to be different and that
The pieces around you how you elevate the matters and taken a a lot of my advice but but also they’ve taken a lot of others advice and they have experience now so you got to give them credit and um to see them grow I’m nothing but proud um you know they’ve
Been showing it again for the past few years that they’re forced to be reckoned with not really playing around with us in the regular season a lot of his teams and you can see that they’re remaining focused and that’s the true Testament of a team that wants to win the
Championship that’s hungry what Impressions you most about the way they lead that team now at this point and how they’ve kind of grown it’s like the initiators of that offense uh you know just just how they make it work I I think um they had a lot
Of external noise around them as a Duo and how well they work together in the future and what was going to be the future who works well was JB or JT and um just as a fan of the game you know you see all that you hear all that but
Uh knowing them personally um you know I think that they’re handling extremely well and they’re not afraid to get their hands dirty going after what they want um you know metaphorically speaking right just out there as Leaders they’re willing to put their bodies on the line
They’re willing to play a lot of games to put their team in a better position for the season and you got to give them credit for that knowing those guys do you keep up with them like going through some of the like ups and downs they did
You know since you left like did you kind of check in with them and like give them some like you know motivation or anything like that just keeping that relationship up they didn’t really need any motivation from me I mean when I first met them they were hungry young
Players who wanted to be stars as soon as they got into the league and I think that’s what separated them from a lot of young guys that I’ve been around is they came into the league with that chip on their shoulder you know meeting JB when
He was in his second year seeing the Boston Celtics draft JT and then now six years have passed and you know JB’s doing wondrous things JT’s doing wondrous things and um their teammates around them trust them so it’s a it’s a good sense to feel as an older brother
Um but as a competitor I want to beat them every time still and they know that so I think that’s what makes all this fun um and there’s extra motivation for all of us when we’re going against each other on the court that we main sacred
Uh on the court but off the court you know support each other still you men the six years You’ want to move on past the booing and all that stuff no no the Boo’s part of it man I again I have dealt with Boston fans prior to me even
Coming here you know uh I wouldn’t say that uh you know I’ve exited them a few times but you know early in my career we used to come up to Boston and smack them around so it you know I’ve had both sides of the coin now and I and I’ve
Accepted that that’s what comes with the competitive side you know so great I’ve had both sides you know seeing sending Boston fans home then also them booing me all the time you know and then seeing the way they they treat some of the star players in the league I mean they want
To win so you got to give them credit what’s it like to be be old grow older in this league and be be the not the old head you’re not that old yet but just the the guy that players look up to and say that they played you in 2K and that
Kind of thing where they what’s that like that transformation like from going from young guy to to veteran and and in terms of being a leader uh I’ve embraced it it’s a it’s a process that I I don’t take for granted um I mean if you look
At the average uh lifespan of a professional athlete just specifically a professional basketball player it’s maybe four or five years so there no there are no guarantees and especially if you’re a number one pick or you’re number 60 pick you got to find your Niche you got to find your team that you
Can grow with and and I feel like I’ve done that um here in Dallas and it’s it’s been a a great uh unraveling of who I am as a person here as well of maturing um when you come into League it’s just basketball basketball basketball it’s not really a work life
Balance so once I learned that then pretty much the keys of the World opened up to me and this basketball Forum became um more of an artistic expression for me a competitive Lane where I can express my emotions and then outside of that I mean I have a tribe I go home too
That that loves me and I love them so my life outside the game too is also just as big if not bigger and means something to me and uh that’s what I do now as a veteran is is help these young guys rationalize that yeah there is going to
Be some media pressure that’s there going to be some fan pressure yeah there’s going to be some social media pressure but you got to dial into what matters to you and find that work life balance because this newer generation man they um I would say included I’m included this social media pressure and
Fandom and media pressure sometimes can get overwhelming and no one knows how to say that they’re suffering in silence you know mental health um awareness your mental health awareness is a big thing it’s not a cliche so you know all that stuff is just grouped in and me being a
Conduit or a bridge I just try to explain to people that I’ve been through it all you can come to me and talk and as a veteran in this league it’s totally different than when MJ was in Kobe was in Tim Duncan was in you know I came in
In 2011 when those guys were still the elders der Derk niskey uh so they passed on the culture but it’s a newer culture emerging you got young guys coming in that want to establish who they are and they want to go completely out you know outside of what
The norm of the NBA culture is so I think that um I give that credit to a lot of the young guys but also me as a young veteran I feel like I still have to keep the old NBA morals and values still very prevalent and relevant um cuz
It’s it’s almost like a free-for-all now you know in terms of platforms and teams and you know so that’s just my perception I don’t I don’t share that or speak for anyone it’s just my
BOSTON — In the Celtics 138-110 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, Kyrie Irving scored 19 points for Dallas but struggled with his shooting, going 9 of 23 from the field. Addressing the boos from Celtics fans, Irving said, “Rightfully so they have a right to boo and, you know, for my career record against them for the last few games I haven’t won so until I beat them, they have all the right to continue to boo. I think that’s what makes the theatrics of sports and competitive sports fun and just gotta embrace it. It’s a part of it.”

what he said here is how he gets the boos to stop or be less loud. Appreciate the maturity from him.
Kyrie Tatum duo would have been a a great duo plus adding other pieces ..
Honestly Kyrie seems to be in a great place. still backing him from afar even if i’m a C’s fan.
Disrespect Lucky you're gonna get booed. It's part of sports and he gets it. Everyone relax
Kyrie is a well spoken man
Does anyone know where you can buy this hoodie?
Mavs must fire kidd
I still love this guy, he did us wrong but he is a well spoken guy and a great and fun player🤞🏻
Yeah but it's getting old like he said it's been 6 years get over it the players have
I loved Khyrie onna cavs and I started watching basketball heavy when IT was dropping 28-29 then the next year we draft Tatum get Khyrie and get Gordon Hayward and he was nice on the Celtics I wouldn’t mind one last year with Khyrie he isn’t a cancer anymore he is still Khyrie just the defense our whole starting 5 got d and can shoot now
I like mature Kyrie
Who cares? That’s what makes sports fun. Kyrie is the villain in Boston. That’s makes the game more interesting. Two years ago when the Celtics beat the Nets 4-0. That was the most fun sweep in NBA history. Each game came down to the wire and the Boston hate for Kyrie as the villain made it more fun.
I love this guy , true leader for the mavs , does so much for the community too , doesn’t want the attention, you can tell how much he’s loved by how his peers treat him , people grow , people change. Nothing but love
MAN SCREW KYRIE LET’S GO CELTICS
He disrespected our logo and us Boston fan's take that personal and we don't forget nor forgive….That's just the facts!!
Celtics fans still worried about Kyrie when Steph said “ring me” in the 2nd quarter of a championship game. And Jimmy Butler did Grant Williams so bad yall to trade him lol. Celtics fans worried about the wrong thing
this will never make sense to me. cavs fans have infinite more rights to boo him because him leaving single handedly demolished any title hopes in the future. him leaving boston was the best thing for their franchise and their the biggest team in the east now
i'm a Celtics fan leave this man alone. that happened years ago i respect his game a lot. keep balling Kyrie
The earth is flat 😂
Kyrie was LOVED by the city of Boston when he was playing here. His Jersey was #1 selling on the team. Julian Edelman used to pull up court side with his Kyrie jersey. I still don’t understand why he doesn’t like Boston.
Personally a fan of Kyrie and his game. Truly a one of a kind player and I wish his career the best. That being said; I’m gonna boo him every time he comes to the Garden. Way too fun 😂
Worst thing to happen to JB and JT but also the best… They learned what type of teammate NOT to be. Thx, delusional idiot.
Meds are working. 😆
Shouldnt have stomped our logo
@6:32 ➡️ “Newer Culture”…Young guys who want to go “outside of what the norm of the NBA culture is.” Morals? Values? 💥WOW💥
As a Celtic fan the crowd corny straight up it was 5 years ago
Ive thought for a few years now the booing still is overkill. Look where we are now? Any perceived damage he did if you believe that is not impacting us.
Its time to move on imo.
I can see Kyrie in the NBA media or coaching yrs after he's done playing basketball
Jaylen brown said "boo every star that comes in this arena " emotion is part of sports. I will say since kryie has gotten to dallas its been just basketball. Seemed like for a few years it was always something bashing Boston after loving Boston, loving lebron after wanting away from LeBron, hes an artist, blah blah blah. Dudes a top 10-15 player when he wants to be embrace it.
