Never a bad thing to have a productive player on the payroll.

  3. FunktheSizzle

Whew next years race for the 9 seed will be legendary

  4. JoshSran04

Just need him to find his 3 point shooting again, hes been okay otherwise

  5. Brad-Stevens

Thats $120M in career earnings for Kelly Olynyk

    My king

  6. Cheechers23

Bit of an overpay IMO but not a big deal (was hoping for something closer to 2/16m-2/20m).

Happy to have him locked in.

    So mid level money

So we got ochai and KO for 29th pick on draft that’s a win in my book

    Ochai defense is really good

Basically takes the Schroder spot of good vet on the MLE

I think most people are eagerly awaiting Gradey’s “extension”, just for the headlines.

  10. WobbleKun

lets just assemble team canada plus scottie, jak and IQ

they need to get Jamal Murray + Wiggins and brand the new Big 4 the “Canadian Connection”

RJ Barrett, Kelly Olynyk, Andrew Wiggins and Jamal Murray is a sneaky contender

Murray needs to demand OUT of Denver after this season and demand Toronto. He had already proven enough in Denver with Joker its time to see if HE can be the team leader.

This is Kobe and Shaq all over again

Tradeable contract if needed, also a good player

Not bad for a bench stretch big. Raps are thin in that area, should fit in quite nicely even at his age.

  14. JoJonesy

Damn, that’s good value. Really thought someone was gonna give him a bag in free agency

  15. donkadunny

This is just so the Raptors can hit their CanCon quota.

  16. ShowdownValue

*Hakeem Olajuwon* averaged about $7 million per season for his career

Now guys like *Kelly olynyk* are making about twice that. And we aren’t even surprised.

    Incredible.

Have to think he got some bad advice to take this deal…

  18. iamadventurous

Lets hope he doesnt have kids to feed lol

Why is it the max that olynyk can sign for? I get that no one will offer this kind of money, but it’s not allowed to sign him for 30 mil for example?

  20. petarisawesomeo

That’s a fine contract for Olnyk, but does anyone feel like what the Raps are doing with roster construction makes any sense?

  21. bionictonic

Say what you want about Olynyk but this is a no brainer for Toronto.

Toronto has bird rights and he makes above league average so they would otherwise have to keep a 150% or $18m cap hold in place until he signed. It wouldn’t make sense for Olynik to extend early if he was not getting his max (this new extension) so this is the price to get this done and free up other offseason spending.

If Toronto thought they could resign him for less they would have to manage the $18m cap hold until he signs. That is enough leverage to get this deal and Toronto knows that.

If Toronto did not intend to resign him they could renounce his bird rights but he would still carry a 120% or $14.5m cap hold until he is signed.

Now he is $13m to the cap at the start of the offseason. And signed while Toronto had bird rights, so the team can apply his salary over the cap. So rather than a 14-18m salary cap hold during free agency, they have $13m that can be used over the cap.

  22. Dirty lunch lady. Bum should be out of the league.

  23. Deliciousdemonhouse

He’s still in the league? Haven’t caught up in awhile but damn!

  24. legless_chair

Played against him at nationals years ago, really cool to watch his career play out

    So many positives here.

    – Canadian / wants to be in Toronto
    – veteran on what looks to be a younger team
    – capable player who will still have value afterwards
    – can start if need be.

  26. probably last 2 years in nba and is gonna retire with the raps

  27. NoOutlandishness6325

KO is a Swiss Army knife of winning… Miss him in Utah but our goal unfortunately isn’t to win this year.
