Howls and Growls breakdown – KAT’s offense

Love this channel. My buddy got me into it earlier this year.

And just finished the above video. Super important.

Feel like it covers really well some major weak points in his offensive game. The bright side is that they look fixable and if he can make progress fixing them, I’d imagine that would truly take his game even further and make him even tougher to guard.

Time to get right for the playoffs!

Buddy sent it to me but thought I’d get upset. He made great points.

  2. At this point this channel should be on the sidebar or something

I’ll probably get downvoted, but KAT is already 3 years into his prime. Fortunately and unfortunately, he is who he is. He isn’t going to have a “ah-Ha!”moment and make course correcting adjustments all of a sudden 9 years into his career, especially given that he stands to make another $225 million over the next 4 years regardless of his performance.

edit: If the coaching staff are sitting on their hands, hoping that KAT “figures it out”, then this team will fail. This staff needs to figure out how to diminish KAT’s weaknesses by taking the ball out of his hands if he’s not either behind the 3 point line, or somewhere within 5 feet of the hoop. If KAT gets caught with the ball in no man’s land, and starts to go into “play-making mode” – that’s when his brain BSODs, and he morphs into a newborn giraffe on rollerskates.

  4. Jim Pete is distraught when he mentions frequently “I don’t know where Karl got into this habit” or “that it is just poor technique”.

It seems that there is a bubble around KAT when it comes to criticism that media/teammates/coaches have to navigate when publicly talking about his play.

When it’s a KAT issue that is being discussed, look for team personnel to say “we need to do a better job of ____”, whereas Gobert is the only player I’ve heard in posted clips early in the season mention KAT by name needing to change how he plays.

From my perspective, it really comes down to (1) basketball IQ and (2) self-awareness that are both lacking. KAT used to make quick decisions, run the floor consistently, if trailing he would set himself up for a catch and shoot 3. Now, those aspects come in spurts where it is a set play or just at the beginning of the game when it is scripted into a game plan. This is also on the team to pass him the ball when he is open for catch and shoot, but imperative that KAT consistently pulls the trigger throughout the game — not just when he is wide open.

He’s too old and stuck in his ways to fix this. If he can’t somehow stop hooking defensive players and throwing them out of the way, there’s zero reason to believe he can make any changes to who he is
