One always does Kelly oin got a cont contract extension in Toronto we’ll talk about what that impact of that is and the subtle things that we don’t see that actually the coaches and everyone else takes a look at that do matter well all those are coming up on today’s edition

Buffering and hopefully making it way better to be a jazz fan each and every day thanks so much for making lock on Jazz your first listen of the day we are free we’re available on all podcasting apps including YouTube thumbs up we greatly appreciated please do so what do
You think of JC last night give him a thumbs up for his performance rocking it with a monster 38o 10 rebound seven assist game uh which has never been done Off the Bench before in NBA history because that’s what Jordan does uh and he tied the Jazz record THL Bailey’s for
Most 30o games off the bench really been awesome uh to see him go uh and watch him play at this level uh and be able to experience the the flamethrower that is Jordan Clarkson uh thank you very much for making locked on Jazz your first
Listen we are and thank you to the every dayers that are out there each and every day all right um I didn’t have the regular crew in the house last night uh but anyway all right um so that was Jordan’s seventh game over 30 he has had
A rocky year there’s no like hiding that I don’t think um you know he’s shooting now 30% from three for the year which is if you go back through his career is his lowest three-point shooting he’s had in any season of his NBA career his two-point shooting percentage is
48.3% that’s the lowest since his second year in the NBA career this has been a funky year for Jordan Clarkson I admire him immensely for the evolution of his game he’s gone from Two and a Half assists a game in his last year under Quinn to four and a half and now five
Assists a game average uh under will hardy so there as I delve into this it is certainly worth noting that his versatility or his influence is just so much more than it ever once was 10 rebounds last night as well he’s just not you know he’s Luke Walton had the
Great Line most guys think they’re open when they get off the bench Jordan thinks he’s hot he’s just not pure Gunner anymore um that’s that’s changed and evolved a great deal what he is though still to just an incredible level is a bellweather of how the Jazz go so
The simple way to look at it is this is in wins he shoots 46% and in losses he shoots 37% and we’ll get get into but it’s game by game it it’s even more diverse he shoots 36% from three in wins and 25% in losses our offensive rating when he’s in
Wins is a 121 And when it’s a loss he’s in 96 I mean it’s crazy averages 21 points a win and 14 points a loss and then his home road splits this year are bizarre for a veteran but if you actually dig into it game by game it’s
Even more telling how much the Jazz go as Jordan goes so when Jordan scores 18 or more points the Jazz are 15 and eight for those of you on YouTube it would be actually helpful if I turned this into a banner which I might try to do while I’m
Doing it just thought about that um when when Jordan so the Jazz go as Jordan goes um here are the numbers when Jordan scores 18 the Jazz are or more the Jazz are 15 and8 so it’s pretty high when you’re below 500 te if Jordan scores 11 or
Fewer 11 or less the Jazz are 1 and 13 and if Jordan scores 13 or less the Jazz are four and 18 that’s crazy I mean that is really Jordan’s impact on this team five and 18 if he scores 18 or more one in 13 if it’s under 11 or under and
Four and 18 if it’s 13 or under what okay maybe points what happens if Jordan shoots the ball well uh um compared to not if Jordan shoots now this is hard because Jordan’s not a very 41% shooter but if Jordan shoots 500 or uh 50% or better which he has done in 13
Games the Jazz are 10 and three if Jordan shoots again that’s a lot 33% or Worse okay that’s again but that’s equally the same amount in the other direction for a 41% shooter the Jazz are five and 13 what’s interesting to me is if Jordan shoots 40% or between 33 and 40%
The Jazz are only two and six so the really the Jazz need Jordan above 40% or um so the Jazz are seven and 19 when Jordan shoots 40% or less so this team really as it’s constructed and that makes some sense Lowry’s your number one guy colins’s been crazy consistent here
For a while is a sign that they really have to have that third score and that third score is Jordan Clarkson and so nights like last night where Jordan’s epic 38 points 10 rebounds seven assists 12 straight to close the game Jazz win that’s how valuable he is when he’s
Good um and that’s you know that’s that goes to the 15 and8 when he scores 18 or more but it’s interesting that if you’re another team and you’re looking at trying to slow down the Utah Jazz Jordan scores 13 or fewer points they’re four and
18 now the question a little bit on this frankly is whether Jordan dictates it or whether the opponent does because Jordan a little bit just flames on on his own and I’m not sure that people are slowing down the 31y old based on their defense more than just whether Jordan’s
Stroke is there or not give Ron Boone credit last night Ron Boon opened the broadcast when Jordan checked in he’s like I watched him and shoot around today he had it Go and he’s G have a big night it’s pretty awesome so Ron nailed that one right away but it’s interesting
To me I mean it tells you I think it’s actually a very telling on where the Jazz are as a team that Jordan Clarkson is that important and where the where the roster construction is right now and ideally moving forward as Jordan’s contract it becomes awesome it’s comes like $12 million a
Year it you wonder whether or not the J you know can the Jazz build a roster around Jordan that’s not as dependent though frankly if you have a guy who semi high volume as we talk about with points gained all the time who shoots below 40% or below 33% it’s hard to
Win it’s hard it’s hard inefficiency is hard to overcome efficiency when he’s on is pretty awesome I said it last week when the veterans play well the Jazz play well there’s three guys in particular that are playing really hard right now and deserve some credit we’ll talk about them when we continue we’re
Just getting started here on lock on Jazz Jordan Clarkson 38 points 10 rebounds seven assists we’ll update you a little bit on on how the Jazz pulled off this win last night as well as um just the latest draft pick situation after a win uh for the Jazz last night
And then we’ll talk about three guys are playing really hard it’s all here on locked on Jazz today’s edition of locked on jazz is brought to you by Murdoch Hyundai located at 46 46 South State Street also located in Logan and in Lyon the Hyundai lineup of cars is remarkable the

Jazz now still sit at 11th in the draft pick situation two wins ahead of Atlanta and Houston we’ll see how that plays out Houston and Atlanta both incentivized to win right now as is the eight seed Brooklyn but they lost last night they’re at 24 wins so they jazz jazz
Probably have three or four more wins guaranteed the rest of the way it’s not much more than that though frankly the schedule is brutal um and so Jazz finish round 3234 Brooklyn somehow has got to you know get 10 more wins the rest of the way I don’t know that that happens for
The Jazz to get date that’s the big spot and the perfect draft position for the Jazz at this point would be that um last night here whole game stemmed on the same thing we talked about all night long was I thought really interesting with Washington so Washington is the
Seventh best team in the league in transition and the fourth best team in the league in being in transition so their their whole game is predicate on transition when they get stuck in the half court then they’re about 27th in the league offensive def L their problem is they’re 30th defensively so they
Don’t get in transition very often because they’re allowing you to score at too high a rate and so when they suddenly don’t defend then you’re taking they’re taking the ball of the net they’re into half court and then they’re 30th in the league in defending transition so this is this cycle that
Catches them it’s why they’re 9 and 52 and the cycle that happens to them is that then if they suddenly aren’t getting stops and they’re taking the ball out of the net then they’re playing the half court where they’re not very good and then they’re not very good in
Defending transition the other team starts running in transitional okay so last night the Jazz had three massive runs I think they had a 170 a 120 and like a 130 and that’s because those were sequences in which the Jazz started getting stops they would run down the throat
Then by scoring then suddenly they’re taking the ball out of the net now they’re playing in the half court where their offense isn’t very good then they’re missing again then they’re running on them and it was just a cycle so that’s how the game really played
They had thir 33 fast break points last night through three quarters the most fast break points we’ve allowed Nathan Harker who does great work I don’t know if you know that name yet you should he’s um a producer for the pregame show and does just kind of awesome work um
Nathan Harker helped me out during the game last night and the most transition points we’d allowed in any game all season long was against New Orleans when New Orleans ran by us but I think that number if I remember correctly and I’m pulling it up right now just to make sure was
35 so that was through four quarters so three quarters we’ allowed 33 the most we’ allowed in any game all year was 35 and then we didn’t allow a fourth quarter transition point and only allowed 12 points in the second half in the paint so after a pretty miserable
Defensive first half which literally felt like to me I was joking with r it felt like that everyone had made this like gentleman agreement that we’re going to sit there and here’s the deal we’re going to play for 42 minutes just going up and down let everyone pad their stats
And then we’ll play hard for the final six minutes that’s literally what it felt like watching that game at times last night it just felt pick upy was a weird game um but you look at the Jazz numbers last night they obviously picked up the intensity at the halftime off
Their adjustments the Jazz defensive rating in the first quarter was a 141 which is horrendous the second quarter it was a 131 the offense luckily was a 144 to match in the third quarter it was down to 100 which is great and then in the fourth quarter the Jazz
Defensive rating was a 56 which is incredible they went 0 for seven from three and so the Jazz really did a fabulous job in the fourth quarter defensively offensively the Jazz actually weren’t great thank goodness for Clarkson he got it going um but the yeah in the final 646 Jordan got going
But prior to that the Jazz offense was pretty dead and was having a hard time scoring so nice to see there from every from the guys and from JC and Colin ston just continues you know he’s just been really consistent the jazz is holding Jordan at like 20 Colin at like 28 29
Minutes a night and just that’s going to be his role get him used to it have him play it and he’s he’s been terrific so that leads me to one of the things I talked about the other night when we were in Atlanta I think it was or maybe
It was somewhere else I said hey if the veterans don’t play well the kids don’t have a chance now last night the kids didn’t play really basically um Johnny juang is not a KY played really well in the fourth quarter tip of the Hat um but
GE uh Keon tried to play with illness couldn’t and then a toe injury to Taylor Hendricks but Chris Dunn and John Collins played really hard last night and then Colin ston always plays hard he just doesn’t have another Gear Well that got that gets us back to a play hard
Team like that’s kind of when our soul got ripped out of us at the trade deadline we just lost a little bit of that play hard you know and Kelly’s not actually the hardest play hard guy Simone is um Kelly is kind of an artist throughout the game and so it was
Interesting it’s interesting to see last night I thought we had the play the play hard back I thought we had in Orlando and Miami again too um you know Chris Dunn plays really really hard really hard and frantic energy and running around and making plays and sprinting
After loose balls and plus nine last night um and honestly keante doesn’t play that hard yet like Keon is still a little casual on getting back defensively at times and some other pieces of his game where just may not know quite yet or just hasn’t you know probably hasn’t played enough games
Against this level of athletes to understand when mistakes get exploited and things you know things he’s been able to get away with stuff because he’s so gifted his whole life that’s what happens with the young players and so I thought last you know I thought last night when you have Chris Dunn playing
27 minutes he just plays super super hard and John Collins gave 34 minutes of hard basketball last night six block shots 17 points 15 rebounds six blocks it’s been a little difference to me on how John Collins has played I don’t know if it was post trade deadline or or what
It was for John but and maybe those rumors that happened earlier this year bothered him more than than we knew um but there’s been a depth to Jon’s play recently that’s a little bit more than what I felt like I saw earlier this year and I I don’t know entirely how to play
Say that there last night fell John’s 17.6 blocks career high 15 rebounds had an impact and there’ve been a lot of nights honestly where he’ll put up some points and rebounds and you’re like was there an impact there um but it felt last night like those that he certainly
Had an impact on things and then Collins just really Colin’s a player and I’m fortunate enough we’re doing postgame interviews with Colin on a lot of nights and if he shares kind of what he’s thinking and how he’s seen the game and what he’s doing it’s pretty
Awesome um the growth on Colin is great will talks about it all the time that we just cannot stamp these kids at 19 years old Colin was so dramatically stamped when we got when we got him and from his early time and then last year was just
Dealing with that injury and I think fighting that the whole time the guy that we’re watching right now is just terrific um and if you go back to how you know what how Collins played this year um and you look back at last year you know he just he kept clicking in in
Last year and then he’d have an injury like if you go back to last year Colin kind of the four games before one of his hamstring injury was 22 151 18 and clicking in and then he never really kind of played again and if you go back to the previous one 21 181
1917 he had he had just kind of found his Groove and then the hamstring would would perk up and this year give the Jazz Medicals credit give give him credit he’s just played fabulously um if you go want to just go back to when he got into the starting lineup on the 24th
Game of the season he’s now got nearly 40 games as a starter he’s shooting 50% from the field 44% from three 86% from the line he’s averaging 21 points six assists a game with two turnovers five and a half assists pretty awesome it’s really probably becoming the story of this
Season is the emergence of Colin Saxton as a player but they’ve got him just kind of in this mode he’s going to play 28 29 30 minutes that’s his role he’s probably eventually becoming a six-man when this team becomes really really good but he’s shooting the three at 44% he’s
Taking four and a half a game he’s shooting 50% from three and he’s Diamond it out five and a half times a game which just is not you know which is against the storyline of who he was as a and he’s been unfaced since the trade deadline he’s like the one player
Whose numbers are absolutely the same since the trade deadline and he’s going to line three or four times a night he is to me the number one story of the season is the evolution and the emergence of Colin SE things we do not see that matter via
Will Hardy and others we continue next on locked on Jazz today’s edition of locked on jazz is brought to you by our friends over at FanDuel I didn’t really think about it but FanDuel I think had the Jazz as a six-point favorite last night that was
Another the game was too close to worry about it but the other night in Orlando these guys are just amazing so much fun to be involved if you’re involved in FanDuel Now new customers get $150 in bonus Bets with any winning $ five bet that’s right
150 bucks if your first bet wins any $5 bet wins then you can get into all the fun fanduel.com locked on and shoot your shot FanDuel the official partner of the NBA FanDuel sports book all sorts of great fun in-game uh lines as well plus they have uh various
Fun uh popular sh gate parlay bets which I think is a soccer game right now um or a American football game that starts in a little while uh interesting game tonight Boston against Cleveland but no Donovan Mitchell so Boston’s an eight-point favorite they’re just marching on people um and the rockets
And the Spurs play tonight we need the Rockets to win their seven and a half Point favorite and Suns in Denver a lot of injuries in Phoenix so no Devin Booker and Denver is a nine and a half Point favorite that’s over all over at FanDuel fanduel.com locked
On thanks so much for making locked on Jazz your first listen of the day um I’ll have to dig into this a little bit more I kind of missed this when it happened actually yesterday so I didn’t see it until right before the but Kelly Len signed a two-year 26.5 million contract with
The uh Toronto Raptors yesterday which is a great deal for Toronto 13 million a year for a rotation player is fabulous um so that’s a great deal and then that’s a question of like to the Jazz wish they had done that that’s pretty much what he could get so the
Jazz had that option for Kelly and obviously decided that they didn’t want to pay him a two-year 26.5 million deal I think the issue really for the Jazz with Kelly I’m with you like my instinct on this one is like come on the dude’s unbelievable he’s a great locker room
Guy how did we not do that right like I’m not lying to you that’s my reaction too and then okay like what’s his role you have John you have Walker kle you have Taylor Hendricks he’s got to become your fourth big and there’s probably Lowry Marin’s
Gonna slide over and play some four not always play some three that just might not really be and you don’t have any idea what like other draft pick other trades other things you might make so committing that with that much unknown I actually think it’s a lot harder that I
Want to make it sound I love Kelly so to me it would have been like that’s awesome let’s get that done um and let’s sign the $13 million contract and but again it is worth noting that that is the highest level he could have gotten
On his extension so and the Jazz had the ability to do it as well so I’m sure that you know it’s not like Justin xanic Danny a and the Jazz front office didn’t know that that was an option they just I think decided 33 and 34 years old with
The guys we have on the roster and the minutes that were there to be played that that wasn’t probably the best move for the franchise um uh they’re being they’re doing what they’re supposed to do they’re being unemotional I’m being completely emotional that I love Kelly
Linck and having him around he’s one of my favorite dudes um I mean I could I don’t I even sent him a note to said what a pleasure was to cover him I just got the nicest note back like he’s just so thoughtful both he and Mike connley
Like are the ones that have just super thoughtful good people um after they’ve been traded and you know held some level of Correspondence um which you know it’s not I just think it tells you who they are as as humans um and how what a
Pleasure it is to deal with them so I’m being too emotional that I miss him and wish he was um and wish he was still around so that’s my comment there all right I thought this was really interesting this been a bunch of conversations recently about Player Development and branding a kid like
Colin seon at 19 or 20 and Lucas omich yesterday was the discussion where I asked will about just his Evolution and it was interesting in the amount of data points Um that um they talked about and so and the good news on this is for the jazz is what Pros Taylor Hendricks and Bryce sensah were this year about going to the g- league and how they played and how they approached it and then the other like
Data point is whether guys love the game you know there’s an interesting thing to me that I noticed even coaching my kids through Sports is this new generation of kids is not watching the game the same way you and I used to grow up if you’re
50 or in that range if you’re younger probably still 40 but if you’re younger than that then I think we have a question and that is I I mean I watch the game I watch games endlessly all the time watch games and I don’t think because of the
Internet and everything else and I’m watching my daughter who’s a huge sports fan they don’t watch the game very much they watch the highlights they watch the clips but they don’t watch the game and by not watching the game you lack some understanding of what’s going on and so
Therefore one of the things that interesting that as talk about about keante a lot is how much he watches the game and how much of a student of the game he is well that’s that is super interesting and then the next side of that is you know our guys the data
Points where guys are Pros Taylor Hendricks going to the G League sure is a ninth pick that’s not what he planned on what he wanted but how did he approach it how did he deal with it Bryce sensah you know being a primary scorer and he’s got an offensive bag
Like you can just see it he put it on last night for a second with a step back and you know having to play away from his offensive bag as he’s playing with other players like how has he dealt with that you know often guys it sounds
Really reasonable to you and I to sit here and say well okay guy like Bryce senso got to go from being the number one option in Ohio State to coming in the NBA and be one of5 and he’s got to learn how to do it like that makes sense
We’ve all said it you don’t aren’t quibbling with anything I have to say there well if you’re Bryce sens about frankly you still might be quibbling about it you might be like why like I can score anytime I want against anyone I’m gonna come out here and I’m gonna
Drop 28 it’s a little bit what Trey L did when he was with the Utah like he never till till he got cut and and moved around a little bit he in my opinion didn’t totally buy into being a role player now he’s really a great role player he’s gonna make hundred million
Dollars in his NBA career because he decided to buy in it’s great good for him um 100 million might be a lot but he might um but the point is that that’s not it’s easier said than done and it’s not something the guys necess do and
There’s been just a lot of talk from Will Hardy recently about the other the other data points so how they deal with assistant coaches how they deal when they go to the g-league how do they deal with teammates how do they deal with the strength and conditioning staff how do
They deal with whether they’re you know when they’re working at their craft are they make returning text messages are they getting back to you getting back to their trainers on time are they showing up for workouts with the right shoes on all these little things and all reports
On our young guys are really really good and that’s exciting and that’s a huge part frankly of the Intel of what you’re doing when you’re drafting these guys and trying to figure out who’s going to make it who’s not and what they’re going
To be and to me that’s that to me is the most exciting part about um the the words we’re getting out of Taylor and Bryce and then we’re seeing it on the floor because they continue to evolve and make the steps and then Keon was totally seeing and Will’s been very open
All year about Keon and how much he watches the game and how much that matters so an interesting kind of the data points outside of our Visage that really matter in the development of our players jazz in the Chicago Bulls tomorrow Wednesday edition of locked on Jazz we’ll roll
Through it be back with you tomorrow right now we send you to the first ever 247 National Sports Center locked on sports today if you’ve got ESPN or fox in the background all day try this instead it’s locked on sports today it’s on Amazon Fire TV it’s also on YouTube
Jordan Clarkson dropped an incredible 38 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists off the bench for the Utah Jazz in a victory over the Washington WIzards. No player in NBA history has ever put that combination up off the bench. Clarkson also set the Utah Jazz record for 30 point games off the bench. The Jazz go as Jordan Clarkson goes.
David Locke, radio voice of the Utah Jazz and Jazz NBA insider, breaks down how the Jazz are impacted by Jordan Clarkson when the flame is on compared to the flame being off.
Then Locke looks at the energy of Kris Dunn, John Collins and Collin Sexton. Locke makes the claim that Collin Sexton is the story of the season. He continues to score with amazing efficiency as a starter.
Locke looks at the Jazz win and the things they did to get the win last night and then looks at the little things that happen beind the scence of the young Jazz players.

Hey Jordan clarkson can't wait to trade him and move on he is so bad but gives me hope the jazz go get a longer shooting guard that can play a little defense but score like clarkson but actually not be way inefficient like clarkson
I love Clarkson. But my gosh he has been awful this year. 13 games at better than 50% after he's played in nearly 60 is absolutely trash.
John Collins playing hard matters a lot.
Clarkson is so kind for helping the youngsters and newcomers improve their confidence by not taking so many shots and by letting them create, like Kobe did to him when he is still a rookie. From Lauri, Collin and now Keyonte, JC's sacrifices is for the benefit of the team, he can simply takeover when the original core was traded but humbly chose not to do it.The Utah Jazz management is the one to blame for not giving this team a chance to contend for playoffs so the players can prove their worth.
…I forgot he's half Filipino, that's why he can endure very well.
He played so inspire last game vs the Wiz not sure why but I feel he's taking Jordan Poole rivalry seriously why people comparing to him as both a bad/worse players. You can tell from the start he badly wants to win the game, he keep on orchestrating on the floor from defense to offense,.. him and Sexton talks a lot and I love seeing the two connects very well. People hating him and blame him every game like Lauri hasn't playing so bad lately, now he prove he can still play and carry the team even without their best player
