Jaylen Brown: Celtics COLLAPSE vs Cavs MATTERS | Postgame Interview

What was your view you know you’re at 22 there a few minutes into the fourth what was your view Beyond W just getting hot what kind of went wrong during that stret uh I mean everybody’s going to have their own perspective on it mine is is that that’s what happens when you

Don’t match the gas and you know take the little things for granted throughout the game and you let a team ST stick around and you know they still NBA players and tip your cat to um we he got hot know we wasn’t expecting or en counter for that but we still should

Have won this game what were the things you thought you were taking for granted during the game I think turnovers um intentionality I think we weren’t very intentional offensively um you know they were physical team but we didn’t match their physicality and you know we took some

You know ilis shots and we turned the ball over more than usual and that led to our demise you guys have been so good at responding to runs this season what was different about this um uh nothing was different you know they uh they got hot you know also got some

Calls going their way and we didn’t respond um we in the fourth quarter we didn’t execute um and we got some open looks that didn’t go down but you put yourself in that spot when you don’t when you uh don’t put a team away don’t match the gas we should have matched the

Gas when we was up 22 we kind of let it hang around it was cool and you know Comfort will kill you and I think we needed that I think that’s good that keeps us on our toes and keeps us being able to learn and move forward but you

Know we got to be able to put teams away and we’ve done a good job of that all season long but you know today shouldn’t happen you said everyone has their opinion and to you point a lot a lot of your teammates and everyone who s has

Been saying like it is it’s a good thing we needed this why is it it seems like this one’s hitting you a little bit harder though why is that yeah because I think we are much better team than we showed today and today was just a

Mentality um this is a a mentality loss I think like we we had the game and then we got comfortable so it was more of a mindset thing than the X’s knows we got to just be you know the more disciplined the more militant team to be focused and

We weren’t that usually we are that we felt that today and I think that’s the reason why you know they were able to get back into the game and because our mindset was a little bit too laxed and we were too careless with the ball we wasn’t intentional on offense we kind of

Let guys get to tendencies that we were supposed to take away we gave up offensive rebounds stuff that all just comes with mindset Mo went down down MIT out do you think that played a part and made you guys relaxing a little bit it shouldn’t have uh um but I mean it’s

Human nature to say it did but we talked about that before the game and we talked about about being you know uh more even more focused than than uh than being the opposite of that and you know and today was the result but you know we got to be

The the more focused more prepared and harder playing Team every single night because those are things that you know you can control um and tonight some of those things that we can control we didn’t do very good at in any given night you could lose and tonight you

Know obviously in this fashion way scores 20 in the fourth and everything goes their way we haven’t really seen the team stormm back like that but you know it happens it’s the it’s the league it’s the NBA anything can happen right now it’s it’s March I mean a lot people

Could write this office like okay whatever doesn’t matter till the playoffs I mean what happens if you know this creeps into you guys in the post season yeah this today matters you know whether they want to everybody wants to throw it away or not we got to look at

The film and address some stuff because that matters you know this your habits are everything your mentality is everything in every game you can’t you can’t waste no possessions can’t waste no you know time out there on the floor so n today today matters we need to look

At that you’ve talked a lot Jaylen about looking forward to the playoffs and building up throughout the year towards that does a game like this obviously in the moment you’re upset about it is this something you can point back to later and say this is the kind of thing and

The kind of stuff we can’t be doing in moments in May June that you’ve been thinking about throughout the year uh I’m not really sure how to answer that question I just think we need to just continue to build the right habits and and and build the right style of play

And mindset as we go forward towards I don’t think we need to keep looking back at it over the course of the year I just think that you know tomorrow whenever we have our film session we learn from it and we address what needs to be

Addressed and we move forward no need to come back to it two weeks from now or anything like that or um it’s a game but at the at the same time you know we got to have the right mentality and the right uh approach night in and Night Out

Fourth quarter question you guys always are playing Alpha transition trying to find cross matches and just set up kind of a simple offense play you know like play fast fast play slow so when they’re making all their shots what are you guys trying to find offensively when you’re

Not really getting the match ups you’re looking for um just you know we want to get to our SPAC and that’s something that we didn’t do a great job of today I think we kind of were on top of each other and there was plenty of opportunities to get to some good

Matchups and good and good uh things that we feel comfortable with and I don’t think we got to it nearly as much as we normally do and that led to some empty possessions um but you know the first thing is getting spacing you know get everybody space get everybody where

They’re supposed to be get organized and then play from there and usually we’ll be in a good spot I don’t think our spacing was great today thank you J

CLEVELAND — The Cavaliers ended the Celtics 11-game winning streak with a furious comeback led by Dean Wade in the fourth quarter. Wade scored 20 points in the final period, helping the Cavaliers erase a 22-point deficit. Jaylen Brown expressed his frustration with the loss, stating, “Today matters. Whether everybody wants to throw it away or not, we’ve got to look at the film and address some stuff, because that matters.”

  1. This loss hurts a ton honestly. Hopefully we can bounce back against Denver on the road cuz beating the defending champs in their house would be hella redeeming

  2. Jb is pissed as he should be put in the game with 5 mins left and then just put in the corner watching Tatum iso and the team just jack up threes man this felt like last szn all over again

  3. JB is pissed with they effort! He didn't get a touch in the 4th smh.. bad coaching strategy. Players have to start taking their own TO

  4. Brown also shows his honest displeasure with this game. Tatum is the exact opposite he seems so casual and unaffected by these inexcusable collapses. Tatum thinks he’s Kobe always having to take the crunch time shot. Shots he usually misses!

  5. This is exactly what I fear the most. Dame is clutch, Giannis imposes his will, same for jokic and Murray. If celtics don't lead by 20, game can go either way. coin toss

  6. I agree with JB
We have to play 48+ min it’s a reality check
Let’s go Cs keep that attitude toughness and energy up let’s go keep that ball popping for a better play ☘️☘️☘️🔥🔥🔥🔥

  7. Like your response JB. The C’s need to keep their feet on the gas…make it up on Thursday

  8. I didn't get paid cause your bum ass didn't score a point in the 4th quarter. all i needed was 1 point from you 🤦🏿‍♂️… Bro didn't want no part of the ball in the 4th, 3 possessions in the same damn corner doing nothing 🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️🤦🏿‍♂️

  9. Jason Tatum just had to pass the ball to kp or holiday in the end and there was a free wide open 3 instead of doing that stupid non clutch shot !

  10. I’m afraid he’s gonna eventually get fed up with Joe’s coaching strategy especially if they come up short again this year

  11. When will the Celtics and Mazzulla learn that Tatum is not a clutch shooter? He used up 19 seconds before taking a fallaway jumper that missed. JB or anyone else should've taken the last shot.

  12. Damn, that's exactly what I wanted to hear after that game; it's really cool to see JB taking ownership, like this. He's a mellow guy, and a considerate one, seeing him visibly upset after they blew a game inspires some hope.

  13. So your 240 huh yea don't believe non e of the numbers you see in height or weight . Your 240 and can't dominate like Steph . They took it personal against them . At this point it's championship or bust for the Celtics

  14. coach sat there ans watched them give up a 22 pt lead and still said I love you guys I bought you all stuffed animals if your hurt

  15. Im not worried. The streak wasnt going to last forever. Were stil the best team in the nba. Still on pace for 60+ wins. Onto denver

  16. Brown this season has CLEARLY become more mature than Tatum as a leader. Like it’s not even close. In some ways JB has often been a little ahead of Tatum( he’s older it’s normal) but because the Celtics gave Tatum the keys before he earned them, it can at times create a weird dynamic between the two. It’s like this weird dynamic where even if Brown was better or more suited to be the leader in some ways, the “rules” that Tatum gets to be the man have made thar simply “not allowed”. It’s odd.
Back some years. Jaylen Brown was better than Tatum for most of 2019/20 when Kyire first left. If you remember the 2020 all star break, I remember many of the respected writers actually said “Celtics brown Walker and Tatum might all deserve all star bids. But if it comes down to just brown or Tatum, brown has clearly been better and more deserving”. I remember even Zach Lowe said that. Brown was 5th in the team in touches but averaged over 20 a game and shot .395 from 3 and i believe 48 from 3. Once tarum was handed the all star birth( he shot 41/31 most of the first half of the year lol..) his ego was able to handle the pressure of being better than JB a little better and from that moment he actually started to step it up. BUT, when playoff time came, it’s not that Tatum was bad overall at all, but when the raptors tied the series 2-2, it was brown who helped the Celtics reallt win that series in 7, his D on Siakim was elite and put up 20-30 points on reallt solid splits without having the ball much. Then Vs Miami, he barely got the ball as they fell down in the series 0-2, despite brown shooting 14-28 combined! Finally he started getting a few more touches Vs Miami, and helped the Celtics claw back into the series, winning 2 of the next 3. Brown ended those last 4 games Vs MIA 11/17, 8/14, 12/23 and 10/17 26/21/28/26 on ELITE efficiency.
Those games against the Heat reallt stand out to me, not only because he played so well statistically and the team did better when he was more involved, but I remember MANY Heat fans having a narrative that “thank GOD the Celtics are MORONS and don’t realize that Tatum isn’t always their best player in every situation. We couldn’t stop brown. But the Celtics just went away from him…”. And all of us Celtics fans know, all much as this has seemed to be a bit better than it used to be, because of Tatums insecurity that brown is actually better and cuz the team allows Tatum to do what he wants, this issue always finds a way to creep up. Vs warriors look at tarums face on the bench when JB hits that 5th 3. Look at how Tatum answers questions when he’s asked about Brown. I swear I’m not trying to Create something, it’s obvious. If you watched last night, once Tatum had it going and had his points flowing, he was HaPPY to look for brown. But when he starts to he insecure, he freezes brown out whether he’s aware of it or not. We ALL remember ALL of the halves and qtrs in 2019-2022 when brown would be on one of his insane tears, and all of a sudden he would be wide open after making 5 of 6, ready for a heat check, everyone looking for him, and Tatum would literally look him off every TIME so that HE could chuck up a Kobe mid range. It was SO gross.
I don’t mean to go on and on, but I wish this issue was gone but it’s not. To my original point, I think the area we are seeing now where JB is ahead of Tatum is that JB has actually become very comfortable being the #2. Sort of the way PG has become so comfy being that elite #2. Jaylen does take his shots, but he doesn’t wine or pout when they freeze him out. He’s ready to lock in on D or sometimes he a play maker and just do what’s good for the team, AND also pick his spots where it’s time to go on a hot steak and get his 10 point run in 2 minutes. I’ve seen him go out of his way more to slap hands with Tatum, cheer a little more for Tatum when he makes a shot. I can’t remember exactly but I’ve heard JB even say really great things in the media about Tatum, oh! Like how it’s an honor to play with someone so great! Idk if it was the supermax deal that helped JB, but even tho I think he has more legit reason to be pissed all of these years being stuck as a 2-4 option when he sort of earned the chance to be 1, he’s the one who’s actually done the team first thing and gone out of his way to make Tatum feel like the man. I’ve even seen him look at Tatum sometimes like “hey do you want the ball sir? “. Sort of bend a knee to him. And I’m proud of JB.! Clearly being the bigger person.! It’s like at this points the only thing JB could do that he hasn’t done is just try to be a worse basketball player hahah ! Like I swear! It’s the only thing he still does that triggers Tatums insecurity. Being really freaking good. I understand that part of what makes JB so good is getting to play on such a stacked team, but that being said I think it’s obvious due to his athletic gifts and his heart that he seems a bit more able to do some flashy or jaw dropping plays than Tatum; and maybe that’s what gets to JT? Idk man. And both of them wuen the other guy isn’t out there just feels so much more at peace. Like JB Vs the kings or Tatum Vs ..the bucks was it? Or Philly?
At the end of the day, the Celtics are never going to trade Tatum, so I get that if it’s going to work out with him and JB, the only way is for Tatum to keep maturing and eventually get to where JB is where Tatum actually becomes ok with whatever antone wants to say about who’s better, or even truly becomes ok with someone else being better than him. I guess truly he would just need to let go of caring about perception all together. His comments in 2019/20 about making all star and averaging 20 mirror his comments during all star about being MVP. I’m sorry but he is just WAY too focused on individual awards. He truly thinks every single player is: but they aren’t the same way he is. Steph curry truly didn’t seem to need to win a fibals MVP to be happy. He was plenty happy. When he DID, oh boy it was amazing for him! But that’s different than not really wanting to win firsr, but actually wanting the individual award firsr and feeling like you have to win to get it. And that’s just JT all around. He wants to win SO that he can get the individual accolades. It’s gross and backwards, and it’s too bad because he seems like a ReALLy good dude. He’s just one of those people who is a little more sensitive as opposed to those dogs, like Jimmy Butler. When Tatum said evertone cares a lot about winning MvPs and such, I instnstly thought of Jimmy. I swear I don’t think that dude cares ar all. And Jordan and Kobe. I know they wanted the individual awards. They were def selfish. But I don’t think they would ever have wanted one if they didn’t win it all. Tatum seems like Carmelo in the way that he might have a hard time hiding his bliss if he somehow won fibals MVP while losing in 7.

  17. As a Cavs fan, reading your comments make me realize how hard it is to be a fan. lol. Celtics are a great team, the sky isn't falling, it's just one game. Having wins like that, when you've been through losses like that is what makes sports great, imo.
