On NBA to poster jop for free terms and conditions apply and of course a very happy International women’s day out there to everyone as well all right let’s dive in and welcome in one of our faves it’s Katie hindle from dime from basketball feelings here to break down a

Toronto Raptor’s Noble competitive loss which feels like a win these days to the Phoenix Suns Katie how the hell are you I’m doing well I’m doing well it was a good loss which I think everyone is maybe I don’t want to say getting used

To yet but I this is this is what we wanted yeah um it’s not losing by 41 to the Pelicans so moving up in the world uh it’s good stuff and and I guess the best way I can sort of paint this game is I had a men’s league basketball game

Last night Katie at like 11 o’clock ridiculous time to play basketball I got home all buzzing after my sweet seven points on 11 shots performance and uh hey you know what hitting twos it’s a thing I usually don’t do I I did it in this game it was pretty nice I’m usually

The bunny misser on our team either way got home very late and watched this game on PVR and didn’t feel bad about staying up to watch this game until 2 am so that’s good I guess we will talk about uh you know some of the the broader storylines around this team

Individual guys we have our eyes on who were rooting for kicking out new dudes on a very new look roster We Got The Good the Bad and the H coming up later on as well Katie but feel like we should start in this one with I think the biggest Story the biggest takeaway

Emanuel quickley looked freaking awesome last night 21 points nine boards 18 assists to just two turnovers and was basically the the source of all of the offense for the Toronto Raptors in this game Katie what were your thoughts on iq’s performance maybe his most complete game is a raptor so far I think

Definitely his most complete game is a raptor uh he looked good he looked confident he looked like he was considering everything like that he was doing he didn’t seem flustered at all he was such an essential part of bringing that lead uh close like within three uh

Points like I think in the third he was I think the one who I thought about like four minutes into the third quarter where things began to actually look a little bit dicey and you were like oh is this going to be another you know slip

Slide to 40 Point deficit uh he was the one I think he started to really turn things around and take control I think in part because he’s recognized and this is like such a sign of not just maturation but I think understanding his role in a team and that his role can be

This but when you look around the floor in the absence of you know Scotty Barnes he’s he’s realizing oh wait this is on me to turn it around like this is on me to make those decisions um and to ex cute so I thought he looked fantastic um career career high rebounding game

For him too so like again you got to see that this is someone who’s like so capable and fluent in doing a little bit of everything and now that he has the minutes and the responsibility uh on this Raptor team to do it he’s really

Shining so I think in a game like that um especially like you know Sun’s got some Heavy Hitters and some real frustrations in in a real tan I never thought Grayson Allen was one of those types of guys who could get tanned like I didn’t think we’ve never seen him in a

Southern Climate right that’s what I realized but like a tan Grayson Allen I was like this is a this is a a stranger being than we’ve even seen before like a moment don’t underestimate the power of the Arizona Sun Katie it’s uh I feel powerful with the tan so I think Grayson

Allen does too H and he showed it last night anyway like all things considered I think quickly really held it together um you know and you understand why they lost but it was a noble loss they kept fighting and I liked his post game too I liked how you know

Um kind of just like Demir he was about it you know so I think all around just like a really full some performance from him yeah I mean it’s kind of the the biggest show in town down the stretch of this season is watching what Emanuel quickly could do as the lead

Orchestrator of this offense right like this offense is going to look very different when Scotty Barnes and yaka purle are back presumably next season but in the meantime you know running like spam pick and roll with quickly and oen or quickly and Chris bue who was

Revived in this game as a role man playing with quickly that was pretty fun to see um you know that’s that’s going to be a a heavy dose of the offense down the stretch and if you work on that for the final 20 games all of a sudden you

Know you have your sort of motion elboy offense you can run and then also there will be stretches of games where you can have a manual quickly come in and be a killer in the pick and rooll which you know before the trade of the Raptors you know the numbers floated around we

Talked about them he was like in the top five percent of pick and roll ball handlers in terms of efficiency when he was with the Knicks it’s been less effective with the Raptors obviously it’s been a strange context and a bad team and all that stuff so I don’t take

Too much stock out of those numbers uh but he clearly has like a a pretty nice grasp of how to run pick and roll and I mean you talked about how the Suns have a lot of dudes uh they have no dudes dud who can stay in front of Emanuel quickly

Just the number of times he turned on the Jets and turned the corner around a guy or split a double team or just kind of just like plunged into traffic and came out clean on the other side he’s so fast he can turn on the Jets at any time

And it’s not just one speed either right he kind of slows it down there was one that one possession I think in the third quarter where Kevin Durant was guarding him he works pick and roll with Chris bue and he just like Quick Stop Quick Stop quick stop all right here’s bue and

Bucket and like duranton skates the whole time pretty impressive stuff like that’s a dude who has like a foot on uh on quickly height wise and he totally had him discombobulated um in this game Katie 25 potential assists for Emanuel quickly and you know you could look at

Potential assists and say oh if all those went in look at all those assists it felt like at least six of the seven noncon converted assist attempts from Emanuel quickley could have been easy assists like missed dunks blocks at The Rim just kind of you know bobbling the

Ball underneath after really getting it served up on a silver platter by quickley um his teammates owe him like a dinner for not getting 20 assists in this game and the alltime Raptor record it was it was right there for him and it’s something that I think we’re

Probably gonna see at some point down the line if he keeps on playing like this um you know who I was uh sort of having images of Katie I was thinking of the 2007 200 yeah 20067 Raptors TJ Jose called on you got the speed you got

Theill it was like a blending of the two it was like Prime TJ Ford and Prime Jose Calderone come together and it was remarkable Katie it was so much fun but like a more contemporary yeah a more contemporary freeze yeah yeah someone who can like

Has a grasp on today’s game um no I think like that’s a that’s an AP read and like I think that’s also where we’re at uh with a Raptor’s fandom and franchise like try and tie it all together why not like make some more feel good stories out of this no I think

Like he quickly in a game like last night I think um illustrates perfectly the the high points like the the really high points that this team can shoot for even through their Growing Pains you know to be able to just like make the adjustments execute those adjustments learn from where they didn’t

Necessarily um where they were like a beat too late you know I think that happened but like they were still able to shut down somebody like Grayson Allen um you know you mentioned Quickly’s like footwork his handle obviously something that’s like phenomenal and so much fun

To watch uh and it is nice to see like oh yeah we’ve got a destabilizer you know I’ve talked at length about OG and I know be being that in a different way I think more defensively like so I think you know Quickly’s not there on the defensive end

But it is nice to see I guess I just love someone who can be a bit of a Menace um and really like upend and confuse their opponents and I think you know to the Raptor to the Raptors like they need that because it’s a young team they’re not that big they’re they’re

Like pretty strong but there’s like other ways that they’re going to have to figure out how to eek out these wins and they do need wins as much as like these kinds of like winning losses feel good and you do learn a lot from them and you’re gonna come back better ostensibly

You still need wins to keep the spirits up right especially because you’re such a young team that’s still pering so I think quickly really just like take you’re talking about him being a merger of two players I think he’s like more of a merger of like all those

Different ethoses and and what you need with the team right now but overall just like I was really happy to see him doing so well and also being so happy but like taking it in stride absolute treat to watch uh and as a raptor better than a 4 to one is

Sister turnover ratio speaking of Jose Calderone uh looking real comfortable out there running the show uh we’re going to come back on the other side Katie and we’re going to get into the guys further down the roster who are fighting it out trying to make things happen obviously not most of them were

Available last night they only had nine available players um but we’re going to dig into the guys on the roster who we are rooting for hardest down the stretch it’s a new team new faces everyone’s GNA pick their guys we’re going to talk about who we’re leaning towards as far

As our guys of choice coming up in just one second Today’s Show is brought to you by our friends over at eBay motors and our partners over at eBay motors have teamed up with locked on Fantasy Basketball host Josh Lloyd to bring you some of the best fantasy picks each week all season

Long whether you’re prepping for a daily draft or scouting the waiver wire every week we’re going to provide you with players that are guaranteed to fit on your roster so let’s see who Josh has picked out for us on this week’s eBay guaranteed fit fantasy picks of the week

Uh lots of options this week and two of them I think will speak to Toronto Raptors fans Kelly o linck is one of them of course no yaka purle he’s playing a whole lot of minutes he’s setting a whole lot of screens for Emanuel quickley that’s surely going to

Lead to good things even if the scoring’s not quite been there the three-point shooting hasn’t quite uh found that positive wave of regression just yet don’t worry probably is Gonna Come and Kelly Linux great pick for you another one as well Kyle Lowry playing for Nick nurse’s Philadelphia 76ers of

Course a very injured and depleted 76ers no DeAnthony mton obviously no Joel embiid and Nick nurse has been leaning on one of his old Pals and Kyle Lowry to get it done and he has been very unsurprisingly excellent when called upon because Kyle Larry is the king Josh

Floyd’s also the king of lock on fantasy basketball and he’s going to help you win your fantasy championship and eBay Motors knows a championship team is about each player being a perfect fit the same thing goes for your vehicle with over 122 million parts for your

We don’t need to go into the nuts and bolts of the rest of the game we talked about quickly that was fun that was nice the defense couldn’t do much we’ll get into that when we get into The Good The Bad and The Hum I’m sure I wanted to

Sort of take a broader approach to this second segment Katie um you know the Raptors are in a spot where opportunity is the name of the game for a lot of these guys trying to grasp some kind of job going into the summer some claim to

A roster spot on next year’s team some claim to being part of the long-term solution for this team and you know lots of guys are being thrust into positions where they’re having a lot asked of them and it you know you have your guys this is like the fandom thing right you pick

You P you pick out your guys who maybe have like a certain style of play that suits your sensibilities maybe um you know there’s some offc court stuff that makes you like them for some reason this is the joy of a new Fresh canvas of a

Team where you get to a pinpoint I mean think back to the days of Katie hindle two day two minutes into Fred Van vet’s career being like that’s the dude Katie we’re going to do that here a little exercise running through this Raptor’s roster and sorting out who are we

Rooting for the most to kind of make the most of this opportunity we can maybe leave out the quickley and barretts and oins of the world because they are going to be on the team next year even Grady dick I feel like is a pretty sure thing

But everyone else it’s a big question as to what their long-term role will be and whether they’ll even be on the team so Katie very early days here with this depleted roster down the stretch of this season where they’re kind of in purgatory stuck in the 12th spot and the

Seventh spot in the lottery standings who you got your eye on who are you rooting for who who are your guys I’m glad that you correctly giving me the credit for that Fred vble I feel like you’re one of the most staunch supporters of that early of that early pick

Um I I really rooting for oai abaji whoops kicked the whole table with the force of my rooting um I think and I think last night he looked a little bit flustered for the first time um that we’ve seen him and that’s not necessarily A Bad Thing uh because you

He has been such like a cool customer in games and he’s talked about it but I think when you see what you know when you’re pressed you know and made uncomfortable is in b unfortunately where you kind of Come Away Learning the most because you’re like I don’t want to

Feel that way again what can I do to deter that um but I really like the energy that he has what like we’ve seen from him so far I really like where he’s shown that he wants to learn and be a bit more fluid uh on the floor I think

Defensively like he could be a really good asset to the team like he’s super strong uh he’s got length and reach so I think that could be helpful um I haven’t really seen a pop yet but he’s someone that I’ve been pretty curious about I mean I know I’ve

Waffled and I don’t really know why maybe it’s because I’m already like guarding against the possibility the pretty good possibility that he’ll be gone but it would be nice if Bruce Brown sticks around you know last night I was also trying to guard against um feeling

Jaded and being like oh he’s just really into you know showing that he’s part of the team on the bench because this is a game that’s going to get more eyes sure you know I don’t want to become that kind of jaded person like he’s just

Doing this to try and get because he wants to get traded I would love to see him stick around you know and be healthy and play for this team I do still think that perhaps where he’s at in his career doesn’t quite fit where the team is you

Know in their in their development um I had someone else well let me back up oai um because I had him on my list too and I think you know there are reasons you know he’s a like just seems like a pretty affable dude and very

Likable guy and so I’m very in on you know cool likable guys making a name and becoming fan favorite types and you know ochai certainly also does things in theory the sort of optimized version of OI does a lot of stuff the Raptors could use you know poor ochai having to guard

Kevin Durant last night you know he did his best I mean what are you supposed to do you’re G to get frustrated off something that seems like a fair yeah yeah yeah it’s uh you know it it is what it is uh Kevin Durant is Kevin Durant he’s seven

Feet tall and is going to shoot over your head and when you’re 6 foot five despite your Long Reach there’s only so much you can do about that I thought he did as best you could hope to do guarding Kevin Durant last night as really the only passible option they had

To throw at Kevin Durant which I think speaks to the state of roster at the moment um but yeah you know the three-point shooting from the corners in particular like that’s a thing that has been you know an area of strength for him the above the break threes not so

Much I have not been terribly impressed with his finishing like it’s been you know pretty tricky just kind of bunnies missed around the rim and stuff like that hopefully that’s stuff that can be ironed out um you know because I think ochai we saw when Scotty Barnes with was

Healthy they had that second unit kind of cooking a little bit you know even with Bruce Brown still unsure of the fit of where he SL it into everything he was doing some stuff and you know those lineups you know while they didn’t perform well by the numbers I think the

It test said hey like this this there’s something here if they can figure out some defensive Integrity the offense moves beautifully with this group of Scotty plus four bench guys and oai was a big part of that so I’m very much rooting for oai as well he’s uh and I

Think our pal VC has really got me onto the oai wagon as well he’s been toot tooting that conductor’s horn for the last like month since the trade my uh other guy Katie Javon Freeman Liberty I’m pretty fascinated by this guy not like a huge statline last night Five

Points three boards two assists one of four shooting hit one three but I think this guy kind of has something man I he’s 24 so you know he’s a little further along in the development curve but he absolutely demolished the G League this season and I in theory is

Going to be asked with the Raptors to you know especially down the stretch here probably carry a little bit more ball handling duties um you know unless emanel quick is going to play 40 minutes every night and do that you know I’m sure we’ll see a scaling down of his

Minutes in load at some point here but I I I think there’s an opportunity here for Javon Freeman Liberty to do some of the stuff he did with the 905 for the big club and kind of take his lumps and learn on the Fly I also am pretty

Impressed by his defense Katie he defends as though he’s a photo in a basketball textbook arms up sliding the feet it’s beautiful it’s a coach’s dream uh and you know he’s got that sort of thick chest he can take bumps I’m uh I’m pretty in on the JFL experience as well

Um even if JFL as a company is no tough times to have that handle but hey now he’s the most prominent JFL so uh good good for him and wait is just for laughs no more I I think the festival’s done and I think the company file for bankruptcy I really

Hope this doesn’t mean gags is gone yeah I do I hate gags yeah I hate gags living in Montreal and having gags always hanging over your head was tough any moment you’re like just a stroller with a fake baby could come flying down the sidewalk and I’m

Supposed to rescue the baby anyway it’s obviously like stayed with me yeah that’s it’s got to be scarring did you ever like did you ever encounter gags either as an active participant or on luckily no um I had friends that did you know going to and from class or just

Like trying to live their life in Montreal for a good stretch of time my brother refused to visit me in Montreal because he didn’t want to get Just for Laugh you’d see them you’d see them and you you would like know when to avoid but right right why does that guy have a

Big flower on his what’s going on here um yeah so that that feels like a I’m a JFL oai you’re a ochai and who else Bruce Brown Bruce brown but I think I’ll say more realistically um I’m with you on Javan Freeman Liberty I also love it

When guys just like throw their whole bodies into something and are just like whatever like this is what works I’m going to do it uh I I’m more skeptical because I just like I don’t know if this will be a long-term fit but I would

Still love to see him be a long-term fit with a 905 but like muhammadu G guy or G gay gay okay yeah Mohammad gay I really like his again just like his length is explosiv there’s something about him that maybe fits an old blueprint of what

The Raptors were trying to be um but I think that still transferable to this team and I’m just happy certainly need 69ine dudes who are Athletics as they got rid of all those notably the last few mons did uh we’re gonna come back Kandy on the other side close it out with The

For free terms and conditions apply ran up the show ran up the the week here on the podcast with Katie heinle from Diamond basketball feelings uh taking stock of a Raptor’s Noble moral victory of a loss to the Phoenix Suns and rounding it out with The Good

The Bad and the H the way you wrap every game recap show here on the pot a thing we liked a thing we didn’t like and a thing that has us a wee bit intrigued from the latest Toronto Raptors basketball game Katie I will give you the floor what you’re

Good oh man I had it I can jump in with mine if you need a second for it come back okay uh mine is Grady dick taking 10 threes yes please more of that uh take 15 for all I care uh yeah getting him up you know didn’t

Finish his twos in this game just 42 overall but 12 points uh and four of 10 from downtown you’ll take that all day from Grady dick it’s been a bit of a struggle for the last few games I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it’s coincided with Scotty Barnes going out

Of the lineup those guys have a nice connection there’s a lot going go in there they fit one another beautifully skill-wise so it’s going to take some time here but keep on letting it Fly Grady four of 10 from downtown you will take all day long and uh if we’re going

By our over unders contest at start of the year I think I need him to average like two threes a game down the stretch for me to win that bet on the over unders with VC and sahal which you don’t care about at all Katie but I’m just

Getting that out in the world there we’re rooting for GR have a barage of Threes down the stretch what’s that you always lose that competition I do always lose that this is going to be fascinating because the team changed entirely Midway through the season so

It’s going to be a mess to document um fun yeah super fun what did you find it yeah mine is uh Gary mine is Gary Trent Jr I think he had some really nice sequences last night there was one where he had this sort of like beautiful cut

Through floating layup he just kind of lifted the ball like a chalice um you know and delivered it it’s nice to see him having some of those I mean and this not to say he doesn’t have those but like to have these kind of more aggressive flourishes as opposed to just

Like you know sticking around the outside and shooting from there where he’s most comfortable uh because I do really think there’s still like grd dick has been phenomenal but I do think you know Gary Trent junior is farther along of course in a more developed and complete version of what you hope gry

Dick would turn into so I think there’s still a lot of room for him on this team yeah uh I actually have Gary Tren Jor thoughts coming up in a couple of minutes will move us on to our bad not talking about Gary here of course what’s your bad

Katie God damn it oh oh no no I remembered sorry man just like half a half a cup of coffee deep um I think my bad my bad has been the Cris buet uh split talk because I have the sense that while yeah maybe he doesn’t quite fit

The rotations that dark rakovich is like trying to attempt with this team he is still like a com like he’s a seasoned athlete he knows what he’s doing you can like throw him into sequences sometimes maybe you’re not going to play him the same way that you would have with like

The earlier iterations of this team just this season um but I haven’t really liked the fact that like oh he’s not playing he must be getting traded because one like logically that also doesn’t make sense you want to try he would have been dealt by the deadline if

There was like or it’s like you can’t hope to trade someone in the offseason and not play them at all because you know any prospective teams are going to be well we never saw what this guy could do so where’s the interest um I don’t want to be that callous and Cutthroat

But generally like i k you got the trade machine pulled up right there behind the screen don’t you yeah I do it’s just like it hasn’t been sitting well with me you know I think like there’s obviously a degree of like growing pains and kind of waiting and sitting out and being

Patient which I think Chris buet has done in terms of like okay our coach wants to try like all these different things with this whole this new team and I don’t think that necessarily has to reflect that the team is quote done with him yeah I think that’s a fair point and

You know I totally understood I think why bu has not been part of the rotation just like a scheme you know perspective like I don’t know if he fits dark oal as well as some of the other players they have because you know they prioritize

Guys who can pass and um you know sort of make the next decision and that’s never been Chris bu’s Forte he is like energy and balls to the wall and rebounding and you know blocking threes and stuff like that he’s a f- stuff up

Kind of guy this team could use an f f stuff up guy right now like they need someone who’s uh taller than 65 to play as well and so having him in there I I think you know really nice flashes again working in the pick and roll with

Quickly last night maybe that’s a thing they can mine down the stretch if you know they’re not going to be able to run Darko ball as it’s intended without Yak or Scotty then maybe you just kind of spam pick and roll in those bench lineups and Chris buet eats that way um

I hope he plays more down the stretch we could lump him into the guys I’m rooting for as well um not sure at all what his long-term Outlook with the team is I’d imagine it’s not super long from here he’s only got one year left on his deal

But you know while he’s on the team he can be useful he can be helpful and I I I would like to see him continue to get run like he did last night for sure my bad just very quickly is giving up eight threes to Grayson Allen in one half no

Thank you that’s bad news what’s your H Katie um I’m GNA go away from the Raptors for this and just say the competitive veracity of the Phoenix Suns I don’t believe it yeah man I don’t believe waxed in the first round by whoever play I think they are

Host they are yeah though Suns like a I don’t know if they will shake out this way but like it would be so funny to see like a Suns wolves or like a Suns and like you know a more Western upstart kind of team right and them get kind of

Fleeced by that team yeah uh would be a delight to watch Shake you’ll just Alexander rip Bradley’s throat out uh that was visceral uh my it goes back to Gary Trent Jr I I my like I have no idea what the hell the Raptors are going to

Do with him this Summer are they going to pay him are they gonna let him walk are they gonna sign and trade him somewhere like I again I like a nice game from him last night you talked about it like uh you know the the the

Man with the Chalice layups and all that six of nine on twos you love that for sure um you know he’s been bombing away of late and putting in some pretty good efforts I don’t think he’s changed all that much as a player I still think he’s

Very much what you see is what you get with Gary and all the good and the bad come together but the good is very high level three-point shooting and play finishing and so while the defense isn’t quite there while the off ball movement isn’t quite there while I think like

Grady dick offers more different elements to his game as a shooter than great than Gary Tren Jr does I think it’s fine to have both like I’ve said this before it feels like it’s being painted as a one or the other thing which I think is a bit silly um and

Maybe the move is you just pay Gary this summer had that extra shooting but maybe the move is you don’t do that I just I’m baffled as to what the Raptors intend to do with Gary the TBD nature of it as per Bobby Webster after the deadline still

Very much TBD so that’s my H and that’s a podcast Katie thanks so much for hanging out it was lovely having you of course you have anything you want to promote for the good people out there have a great weekend everybody enjoy springing ahead oh man so happy Katie daylight fantastic

The best yeah uh thanks for reminding me I just so happy now um yeah springing ahead all that good stuff uh we will be back on Monday of course we got a game uh talk about against the Blazers on Saturday I think on Monday so we’ll get

To that um as the Raptors continue their road trip and hopefully they can beat the Blazers they’re pretty bad maybe quickly goes off we’ll see um Grady dick shows why he should have been taken third overall over scoot Henderson be fun uh we’ll leave it there though thank

You so much for hanging out always appreciate you tuning into the show supporting it rocking with it all that uh find us on all the apps find us on YouTube subscribe follow rap review and have a wonderful weekend we’ll talk to you again on Monday with another episode

Of lockon raptor Katie I’m hitting the shot this time I hit the shot

In Episode 1592, Sean Woodley is joined by Katie Heindl (DIME, Basketball Feelings) to chat about a spritely, 120-113 Toronto Raptors loss to the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night in a game that saw Immanuel Quickley (21-9-18) turn his best overall performance as a Toronto Raptor. Off the top, they chat about Quickley’s mastery in the pick-and-roll against Phoenix, his outstanding playmaking mixed with scoring touch, and why he remains the most interesting guy to watch for the Raptors down the stretch. Next, Sean and Katie chat about some of the guys they’re finding themselves rooting far hardest to make good on the opportunity being granted by the team’s circumstanes, including Ochai Agbaji, Bruce Brown, and Javon Freeman-Liberty. Lastly, they run through The Good (Gradey Dick bombing threes, Gary Trent Jr.’s 30-point outing), The Bad (the strange Chris Boucher saga, Grayson Allen hitting 8 threes on the Raps’ head tops) and The Hmmm (The Suns being meh, GTJ’s future) to round out the show.

  1. @sean woodley look on the bright side of things. the raptors can pick ron holland in the 2024 draft to replace og anunoby and take the defensive load off scottie barnes.

in the 2025 draft the raptors can select khaman maluach who is said to be a generational center like wemby and is 17 and 7'2 with 7'6 wingspan and still growing. maluach can do everything and is very mobile.

  2. Besides the defense in the first, this game went as well as it could’ve. Down your 2 best defenders against a playoff bound suns team just hanging around is a win
