I hope people actually read the ESPN article that came out today

We’ve been begging for national attention all year, and now we’ve got a beautiful piece that actually captures what it’s like to be a fan of this team by notable Wolves fan Hanif Abdurraqib.

For those who don’t know, Hanif isn’t just some ESPN staffer pushing out a basic boilerplate article about the wolves now that ESPN feels obligated to talk about us. He’s a celebrated contemporary author and MacArthur Fellow.

This isn’t a deep dive into Xs and Os, it’s not just the standard talking points about Rudy on the perimeter in the playoffs, it’s a real look into what it feels like to be a fan of a historically bad team finally having its moment, and just how fleeting that moment can feel.

I’m sure people are just feeling like this is too little too late now that KAT is hurt, but the article actually integrates it really well. It feels natural, and not like something that had to be tacked on at the last minute.

I feel a little silly writing all this out. I’m just a big fan of Hanif’s and feel honored to have him writing about my favorite team. It’s a piece of writing that really resonated with me, and I think/hope it will resonate with other Wolves fans too.

Go wolves

Highly recommend his book Go Ahead in the Rain. How else are you going to spend the hours between reading this article and the cavs game?

I’m so happy I got into basketball/Wolves 2 years ago.

The quality of this article…I feel like isn’t appropriate for ESPN.com. But maybe they’re changing.

  5. He’s a fantastic writer, and it was a lovely article.
