Two scores tonight the Warriors of course playing without Steph Curry but that does not mean you can’t play defense Monty boy what was your whole take on this game um they didn’t look the Warriors did not look like a team that is trying their desperate drive to the playoffs to make

Up ground in the postseason yes I mean you know they talk about wanting to get to that five or six seed which is an admirable goal but you don’t get there unless you outplay other teams especially teams that you’re these this is a game you’re supposed to win yes you

Know and and so was the last game so they come home after a three one road trip and they play three teams at home they beat the first team the Bucks who are a good team they place the bull they play the Bulls and then they play the

Spurs the two teams they were supposed to beat and lost to both of them so they end the home stand with back-to-back losses to sub 500 teams that’s not how you rally down the stretch no you can’t you can’t just speak into existence your desire to move

Up in the standings no you have to have the action behind it and yes this does kind of show me like we needed any sort of proof how important Steph is to what the Warriors do but good teams can weather injuries Steph’s absence is not a good excuse here it doesn’t apply

Here it doesn’t apply here um because there was an effort problem tonight and the Spurs played Harder They played with more Des you would think the Spurs were after something they’re going nowhere they’re rebuilding their best player and I say the the person they’re rebuilding building around Victor wanyama is not

Anywhere near San Francisco and the way they played you would think they had something on the line was their pride that much of a factor because I’m telling you for most of the night they played with more energy than the Warriors did and the warriors were at

Home so things were in their favor going in on paper but once the game started Midway through the first quarter the warriors were trailing from that point on yeah at a hard time yeah the Warriors are using their 20th different starting lineup against Steph Curry was out of

This game tjd went into the starting lineup um Steve Curry explained one he wanted to link up tjd with Chris Paul okay okay have a that’s part of it yep but then Steve C said he’ like this this lineup for defense we didn’t see a lot of Defense tonight what did you think

About the defensive energy just wasn’t I mean you know the defensive energy wasn’t there and there were so many breakdowns and the kind of breakdowns that we saw back in November M December you know when the warriors were you know trying to get above 500 we saw some of

That tonight this was like a regression game on defense because there were so many times that they were leaving guys wide open from corner threes and again the Spurs came into this game they were 27th in the NBA in offensive rating 27th and they came in they shot 50%

Better than 50% from the field and better than 50% from three the first time this season they shot they’ve done that you know and so here it is March one month left in the well five weeks left in the season and a game that really matters to only one

Team the home team and yet the road team comes in and wins because they oddly enough they seem to want it more you know yeah they played like they wanted it more and so we know the Warriors are quote unquote the better team but tonight at a time when you think that

This would be really something they would have to go after to have a successful home stand y didn’t happen yep we’re waiting to hear from Klay Thompson at the podium uh quickly though so the Warriors are in a situation where they have two rookies in the starting lineup interesting okay um tjg getting

The start for wigs tonight tjg went five for five uh not great from the stripe um it contributed six rebounds here what did you think about this moment for him he hasn’t started a lot of games but he you know he he seems to come in with the

Right mentality yeah I understand the move you know you give give the Warriors a bit of a presence at The Rim you know which he does um and but but and I don’t think he was quote unquote you know the the problem I think I mean this is this

Strikes to me as one of the games where Draymond will say you know what it’ll be on me because he’s the energy guy and he had some but he didn’t have what he usually has and what he needs uh for this team right now we’ve seen Draymond

Come out there and really be the guy who fires up the entire team on that end of the court and tonight it just wasn’t that spark that he used has didn’t didn’t seem to be visible um you there were a couple times I thought okay here

It comes here it comes here it comes and each time you know the Spurs were able to get a good shot and make it yeah and so um that took the wind out of the warrior sales and there was never a point in the game where you thought okay

The Warriors about to take over now and you kind of thought you know they they rallied late but it was too late in that fourth quarter yeah um they cut it in they cut into the lead but you’re trailing by 21 that’s a lot of lead to

Cut into and they never got closer than I think 11 I see thec decision here because if Victor wanyama is not on the floor the the blocks leader in the NBA averages three or more okay you want more of a presence at The Rim okay you get it with tjd

Right it just didn’t go their way no and you know the draymont isn’t the same player without staff we’ve seen that over the course of his career you know and the two of those guys have such great chemistry on the floor that they can they are pretty much the offense the

Engine behind the Warriors offense when they’re together so Draymond may be you know he has has to make an adjustment here because Chris Paul’s a different player and so I thought and Chris didn’t play I don’t think he played badly but he didn’t play as well as he would like

Okay but he ain’t the only one yeah I mean I’m not sure anybody who played on this Warriors team tonight said I like what I put out there you know I think everybody realizes there’s something they could do better be better at um JK scored you know 26 points but 17 came in

The fourth quarter when they weren’t really you know it was a different game by then and so I think Moses Moody and and Brandon psky two guys who we know have to step up a little bit now they have to score a little bit uh in fact

Brandon told me before the game he knows he has to score yeah and those guys just couldn’t find buckets very well so you know when you got those two guys out there playing the minutes they’re playing and you know they’re having a tough time getting to the rim getting

Ball through the hoop then it’s going to be tough for the offense to flow and the Warriors offense never Flow their defense never found any sort of snap and didn’t happen yeah we thought maybe this could be a game for Andrew Wiggins as well a little bit of a surprise uh the

Change up here to put tjd in the starting lineup so still what can Wiggins give you um this is Wiggins returning from the personal issue that took him away from that road trip here he is versus the Bucks bulls and Spurs most minutes tonight so maybe he is

Ramping up still a little bit yeah it looks like he’s starting to you know he’s getting he ain’t there yet but this is a game we okay I mean he was better in the last game than he was this game he needs to be better next game than he

Was this game and he’s ins so you know give him another couple games and he should be where you want him to be which means a guy who can give you 20 plus on a given night guy can grab you know six seven eight rebounds he had six rebounds

Tonight so um I just think that when Steve K said before the game that that you everybody needs to contribute right now yeah because you’re not going to get you know SE Steph go out there and drop 60 you’re not going to get that you know

And Clay got gone early and made some shots early and he tried to get it going he had 27 I think for the game U so over the course of the night though you kept looking to see who was going to stop people and get the Warriors going in

Transition and they just W enough stops you know whenever the Warriors seem to be getting a little bit closer the Spurs come down and hit a big three yes and again the Spurs are not a good three-point shooting team but tonight they look like World beaters I have

Those numbers but I I want to go all over the place but we have Klay Thompson Klay is our BMW ultimate performer uh he was really the only guy who had it going for a long time until kaminga started to explode in the fourth quarter clay finishing with 27 came off the bench

That’s his usual role now uh five of 10 from three had that going pretty well um he ended up starting the second half because the Warriors KN were looking for a spark um and then on night where the Warriors struggled from the line I even

Look at the fact that Klay went six of six from the stripe so Klay Thompson had it going but I think it was sort of indicative of just the struggles of the offense this even yeah you know you you mentioned play going six for six on the

Line Warriors miss a lot of free throws tonight yes they did yes they did I mean they didn’t help themselves in that way either and so this was I mean I I just think tonight’s game was dictated by the team that played harder and with more um

More conviction you know and I think that’s what the Warriors will have to do to get where they want to go but you know when you if you look back if they’re looking at themselves if you get to April and they’re looking at a play in tournament because they can’t get the

Five or six they’re at 10 right now yeah they’re going to be looking back at some of these a lot of games this season but what H could have happened this will be one of those games where they said we have the Spurs coming in thought Victor

Wi minyama and they ran us off our own floor mhm uh and that followed a game to the a loss to the Bulls who were again a sub 500 team yeah they’re playing better but they’re still sub 500 and we see today that the Clippers and the Bulls

Got into it and the Clippers were able to do what the Warriors couldn’t do finish off the Bulls down the stretch and the Warriors couldn’t do it so you’re seeing the difference between where the Warriors are and where the Weston conference Elite is right now we’ve seen it all season the Warriors

Record against the western conference elad is like 2 and 13 that’s so that’s no yeah they have a ways to go and tonight they didn’t show much the largest lead the Spurs had in this game was 21 I’ll just leave it at that all right Steph uh Klay Thompson at the podium

Let’s hear from clay you guys were like 33 33 and eight at home last season I think you’re 17 and 17 this year what what do you think kind of is there anything tangible you could say that’s been the difference to be honest no just how the cookie crumbles

Sometimes clay the way the way Jonathan kind of gave you guys some some spark coming out of the gate in the fourth attacking the rim like that is it disappointing to be able to not get some stops key stops there at times when you could have grabbed some momentum a

Little bit and maybe run with that yeah it’s disappointing I mean give credit to the Spurs they shot the heck out the ball 51 a half% from three and uh unfortunate not at the office for everybody but John um was great tonight at The Rim and hopefully he takes that

Same uh approach when we see them on Monday and uh just a just a bad loss though I mean just not not good but we’ll uh flush it and uh bounce back Monday clay how does it change sort of the geometry on the court without Steph

And the spacing and how much do you take it on yourself to kind of create that space and make you know and sort of replace some of the threes that he he makes usually Well Steph uh makes our life easier everybody out there is life’s easier cuz he uh demands so much

Attention and for myself when I’m out there I don’t try to put more pressure on myself just rather be myself and shoot open shots and create shots as well as make the basketball play uh I mean tonight was unfortunate I got myself in foul trouble and had three

Turnovers that’s inexcusable and I’ll be uh better better better Monday oh heck yeah I say it sort of off topic uh sorry uh our columnist did piece on Roger feder did you have any interaction with him today while he was here and I know there’s a ping pong history there right uh Roger

Is a great person I’ve met him in Shanghai in 2018 and uh he’s just super down to earth especially with all the success he’s had he doesn’t have to be and uh he’s just really cool guy and I watched him my whole life growing up

Um it was awesome to have him in the building unfortunately we couldn’t get a win for him but uh it was just cool to be in the presence of greatness and he’s just such a humble likable person and it was awesome to see him here in San Francisco Roger Federer the Roger F

Feder question first okay first as a reporter when you know you need to ask a question for a colleague and it just doesn’t fit the moment but you kind of have to ask it it just goes clunk and Clay you could tell clay was like okay but I mean he was gracious was

A good sport there and then also I can’t believe Roger feder had to watch this game yeah I mean he probably thought I’m GNA watch The Warriors beat the Spurs you know because everybody everybody beats the Spurs everybody does and tonight they get out there and he sits

He has a great seat too great seat court side baby such a big champion and watch court side man has 20 grand grand slam wins and he’s sit in courts side to watch the four-time world champions go out there and beat a team that hasn’t

Gone anywhere in a long time and is in the last place in the Western Conference and they run rough shot over the Warriors it it’s this is there’s probably a bunch there’s five six seven eight losses you’re going to look back over the course of this season no matter

Where they finish but this is one that you’re just going to go what what what happened I mean because again you don’t have Steph you get that but that doesn’t explain the defense that doesn’t explain the level of execution on defense uh and it doesn’t explain the way that they

Just didn’t have the the lack of energy the lack of just yes grit and go get it especially after the Bulls game knowing the way that they lost that and then you have this opponent ripe for the taking worst team in the west playing without their two best players and this was the

Effort tonight this looks B they’re stacking the deck against them when when you lose games like this you know back-to-back home games against sub 500 teams these are the teams you have to beat now you got to go out and beat somebody else maybe you you not might be

Harder to beat yeah all right let’s talk about some of these three-point numbers because the Spurs hit a lot of open threes they came in 34.8% as a team shooting from three tonight 51.5% 17 threes compared to the Warriors 10 we have a bucket that I think illustrates this exact point it’s

In the third quarter only one well I picked out this one I mean let’s just focus on one this is champen in the corner look how open he is by his own bench too I mean that’s just going to Rally the TR look nobody nobody clay and clay and BP are out

There on the on the perimeter you know so it’s just like yeah you talk about getting back on defense and um yeah there you go at the end of the third quarter they’re up to 61.5% sh champeny hit going five of eight from three yeah

Well you know we talk about how bad the Spurs are and they are bad but when your defense is giving them easy buckets like this I mean most NBA teams no matter where they start are in the standings can make open shots they do it in practice all the time that was a

Practice jumper right there it shouldn’t look like that that’s what tjd afterward called a horse bucket right s r s e it should not be that easy yeah it was a practice bucket you do when you go out before the game you shooting around that’s what you do nobody’s guarding you

Maybe somebody puts up a hand or something but he had four feet of clearance around him and he that was just one of them we saw it happen numerous times tonight and you just can’t win a game like that whether it’s against the Spurs the Wizards or any the

Pistons even on your own Court you can’t you you invite the team to beat you that’s not supposed to beat you there you go all right sorry Roger Federer sorry um okay let’s go when we come back on live uh we’re going to talk about CP3

Where they want to go and they got to get to you know 48 at least yeah that’s my thinking the way it looked got to be at least a 48 and they’re making it hard to themselves now so um you’re talking about you know they can’t lose more than

You know three maybe three or four games the rest of the way that’s wild to think abouty we also have a question Nelson is asking why wasn’t clay starting over pods interesting I mean clay has been he did start the second quarter yeah that was I think I think well the first thing

That comes to mind to me at least is that if you have Clay him off the bench he’s shooting usually against second Team guys and that gives you an advantage yes he also doesn’t have to defend some of the starters although in this game I mean that I mean so if you

Put him in the starting lineup then what do you have coming off the bench that can really exploit what you’re getting on defense like he does you know hopefully Mo Moses if he shoots his if he sinks his shots yeah but Clay is the

Guy who you look at and say he’s the guy who I know can give me on a given 930 yep and I mean came close tonight yeah but yeah I mean then you know the game the lineup could be different on on Monday in San Antonio and probably

Jonathan kaminga coming through in that fourth quarter exploding in the fourth quarter with 19 points so we were wondering coming into this game how would the space in without Steph you know a shrunken Court how would that impact JK well he had that burst in the

In the fourth quarter I wonder if the spacing was Troublesome a little earlier but what did you think of JK’s game um I thought earlier he was kind of he he didn’t have any rhythm early and that’s why he didn’t get much scoring on in the

Fourth quarter he played with a lot of conviction you know he went after it in the fourth quarter he knew that the game was getting away from the Warriors and so what do you do you know let’s try and make something happen late to see if we

Can get back in the game now I didn’t see that guy in the first three quarters though you know and so uh again it’s not just him but in those first three quarters he just didn’t seem to have any real um disposition for going after what needed to happen with step out my

Thinking is that every everyone needs to realize okay I got to be better I gota play with more Force I got to play with more energy we’re missing our main guy how do we make up for that well you didn’t really see that for most of the

Game when and and I know it’s an adjustment you know you don’t snap your fingers and go okay now we’re ready to play without Steph but the one thing you know you have to bring every night no matter who you play is energy and JK really brought it in the fourth quarter

But I didn’t see much of it from that at that level through the first three quarters well in some ways sometimes hasn’t he been discouraged maybe in earlier years from going one-on-one from playing like from yes you know and and but he’s doing more of that now and it’s

Okay yes it is yes but I I guess if you’re if the whole team needs to get going would you think he would have been discouraged from being like me me me me me me me he he did have that amazing explosion he’s capable of that stuff but

I do kind of understand why it came in the fourth quarter well yeah I mean he played better but also the Spurs probably you know they they weren’t they they didn’t play the fourth quarter like they played the first three okay they had a lead they had enough of a lead

Yeah they had a lead and they PL defensively they probably weren’t quite as attentive as they were before so it made it a little bit easier but again he played with the kind of attitude you need to you need to play from the beginning and he mentioned that at the

Game you know we got lock in from the beginning the beginning yeah I really like JK’s explosion right there he’s capable of taking over a game that’s very encouraging when you need a moment like that because the Spurs kept stomping on any kind of spark the Warriors had okay they would always have

A bucket to answer or pop would call those timeouts he kills all momentum with those timeouts or the words would foul they were interrupt they would interrupt their own flow in this game yeah and there you go all right uh cb3 starting for Steph Curry um we want to

Talk about his role in Steph’s absence by the way 30 million 19th season so you’re getting a veteran presence um who started his whole career before he came here to Golden State nine assists that’s kind of what we would expect gather the guys play a play a nice tight game get

Some players going how do you think he did with that mission tonight I think he did okay I mean you know I think you want Chris maybe to score a little more um you know 10 points you want him to be 15 18 20 somewhere in there um because

He’s capable of doing that he can do that uh the nine assists are good you know and he he’s not a high turnover guy so he’s not going to be that guy who gives ball away five or six times a game so I think if you’re if you’re yeah if

You’re the Warriors you know this is Chris in a starting lineup again for the first time in a while and first time with this group you know so this is the 20th different starting Life The Warriors have employed yeah and so um I wouldn’t expected him to go out there

Tonight and score 25 and get 15 assists and zero turnovers but uh I thought it’s a good start and he needs to kind of grp it up again for the next game but so does so does everybody else there you go Chris is steady I like that about I like

That about Chris and he’s doing all this coming back from his his hand injury so okay when we come back we’ve talked about the fact that the Warriors are 10th in the west we need to take a look at the schedule coming up where could they make up some ground who’s coming up

Sure that’s why he was here early uh if you’re Steph you probably want to go home before this start go maybe go home at halftime if you don’t go home before then so this was tough to watch yeah he wanted to meet with Dr Rick celebrini

Was saying like the first 48 Hours of this kind of injury can tell you a lot um we’ll talk a little bit more about that on the show as well uh and Otis you’re welcome yeah olup says surprised Steph wasn’t watching From the Bench tonight I think

You would have had the option but if a player has hobbled a little bit they actually don’t like them to watch from the bench because you can’t move out of the way quickly yep yeah all right it’s one thing if you got a hand issue or something like that like

Buzz right then and there so um and then you’re going to Dallas a team that you going to see three more times and that’s you know several games in front of you especially with what Luca is doing right now with these triple doubles of 30 30

Or 35 Point triple doubles I mean the only player in NBA history doing that right now I believe that luuka can be neutralized by offensive players players because he doesn’t defend very well okay but you got to make him defend use some energy on that end maybe get him in foul

Trouble but um to me the next three games Spurs at San Antonio Maverick at Dallas Lakers in La the worri need to really win all three of those games this is almost like season pivotal it feels like yeah this this next week will be the biggest week

Of this season for them uh they’ve had a number of big weeks but this season is the one where you look at and go you know what if they can’t come through this next week in a good good place then that whole goal of being in the sixth

Spot or the Five Spot the Five Spot already starting to look tiny okay the sixth spot is still doable but they got to be so good down the stretch and they can’t be doing what they’ve done what they did tonight and what they did two nights ago against the Bulls okay and if

For some reason you missed it the Warriors announced that Steph Curry had his MRI no structural damage he’s going to be re-evaluated in three days that’s Tuesday the Mavericks game happens to be Wednesday it’s within the realm of possibility we talked about but it seems kind of small yeah I mean it’s possible

But not probable not likely but you know you don’t say no don’t say no I I like that telling me there’s a chance but there’s two games two days between two full days between Dallas and La okay and that’s important I think in a situation like this getting Steph healed up as

Best as he can because if the Warriors are looking at the postseason you need a full strength Steph Curry yeah so we know the Warriors are a team of an abundance of caution even if you’re looking at a playin game with which right now that’s what they’re looking at

Yeah you know um you’re going to need step to be at his best you need everybody to be healthy but right now this game tonight is going to sting I’m just like the last one did and the road trip coming ahead they got to be really good really good really good all right

Game when they you know they were down what 20 21 at the half or 19 2020 whatever it was I think it was 19 they down big at the half and you they didn’t it looked like the the Spurs were the team that came in here to do something

And the wor with the team that came in to theena let and let them do it to him you know it’s like wait a minute which which team is supposed to be the dominant team here and we saw which one it was it’s the one that won the game
