Memphis Grizzlies tie a franchise record in 31-point loss to Oklahoma City Thunder
If I would have told you before the Memphis Grizzly season that they’d be setting franchise records in March you would have believed me you probably would thought it was a good thing but boy no one could have imagined these type of Records being said after a 31o

Grizzlies coming off of a a bad loss yeah I think that’s the the nice way of putting it on 124 93 loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder but a lot of takeaways from that game a lot of players played which we’ll talk about more in depth later on in the show GG
Jackson had a big night and mud more uh but speaking of today’s show in the first segment we’re going to talk about that game we’re going to recap the OKC Grizzlies game and then in the second seg we’re going to talk about GG Jackson’s night what went right for him
Finished the game with 30 points then we’re going to talk about that franchise record that I mentioned earlier the Grizzlies did tie a franchise record in this game and I believe it’s NBA record as well but we’ll get more to that later on in the show today’s episode is

Grizzlies so it’s two years ago a little more than two years ago I would say it’s December 2021 a lot of you probably are catching on to where I’m going with this but uh if you haven’t by now I’m thinking of a December 2021 Thunder Grizzlies game f
FedEx form where the Grizzlies set an NBA record by winning by 73 points I was reminded of that game because of how dominant the Grizzlies were in that game I remember certain players for OKC like Shay Giles Alexander uh he didn’t play in that game in particular against the Grizzlies like
They had um Trey man uh in in the star lineup I think L Dort who still starts with the Thunder he was in the starting lineup that game as well but it seems like OKC like the Grizzlies now where a young team dealing with injuries and to their major stars or
Whatever the case may be and they’re going against one of the rising teams in the NBA a couple of seasons ago that was the Grizzlies on the way to 56 wins this season it’s the Oklahoma City Thunder trying to prove that yeah we’re young you know but like Beyonce said I may be
Ready and that’s what they’re trying to prove right now so OKC looks good and they look great against I mean the number of stars at play in the fourth quarter I know Jaylen Williams got hurt after about 10 minutes but Shay Gil is Alexander scored 23 points or whatever
And uh Chad hram was fine Josh kidy played well they’re a nice young roster he had K Wallace coming off the bench he was a big piece for them in that game against the Grizzlies 22 points Off the Bench but this is more to focus on uh
What happened with the Grizzlies like I said we’re going to talk more about GG Jackson later on so other than GG Jackson there were some key takeaways even in a blowout even in a game where you know jar Jackson Jr himself uh finished four of 10 shooting from the
Field in 28 minutes at 16 points there were still some takeaways from this game couple of other things stood out to me that Luke Canard did keep his streak of three-pointers uh made 21 now 21 games in a row of consecutive three-pointer put that streak in perspective for him I
Think before that he had two straight games with no makes he went 0 for four in one game up from three-point range 0 for three the next game and you know slump and Luke Canard usually don’t come in the same sentence but that was one of
The times that it did and ever since then Ball’s not he’s not missing too many he missed a lot in this game but he did knock down one to keep that streak alive 21 consecutive games his longest streak before that this season was six
So lard is feeling good uh get a lot of looks again 23 minutes one made three-pointer but kept the streak alive for him Jake levia as well Jake levia continues to score uh the basketball he continues to be active he’s turned into one of those type of guys you can draw
Plays for him but you also don’t have to you know his physicality continues to stand out 13 points four assists only had one rebound which is you know actually an area that he’s been impressive at as of late you know with a couple double doubles but only one
Rebound in this game four assists two steals four of nine shooting and two made three-pointers so we’re starting to see that three-point shooting flash where you remember at the beginning of the Season Jake lvia said he feels like he’s one of the best Shooters quote unquote in the Galaxy so uh he’s
Flashing at three-point shooting ability right now speaking of three-point shooting ability that’s kind of what Santi Al dama uh that’s what helped him get on the court for the gries but he didn’t do much in this game two of five shooting from the field 0 of two from three-point range seven points six
Rebounds and not to harp on this point but uh you know I I think Santi Al dama is not one of the first names that comes up when we have the conversation about who’s safe on the roster and who who should be he you know uh dangled in
Trades and things like that look I’ve said it I like Sante I love what he does for the Grizzlies and I know for a fact that the Grizzlies in part when it came down to the decision between Kyle Anderson or Santi Alama santi’s ability to shoot the three-pointer was a key in
The Grizzy saying Kyle Anderson we like what you did but we’re gonna let you walk Santi alama’s ability to spread the floor but now you’re starting to see as he had a couple blocks in this game 7.6 rebounds the playmaking has been really good to me with the three assists but I
Think you need more from Sant Alama during a stretch like this me more that’s kind of where I am on him at this point Off the Bench had Lamar Lamar Stevens dejon jro made his Grizzlies debut uh Lamar Stevens led the bench with nine points again we’re starting to
See him play on the wing a little bit more which I think is good perfect give the Grizzlies a better idea of what he can do on this team so they can know if they want to keep him Beyond this year the John jome made his Grizzlies debut
And I like when number 77 brought to the table seven points 10 rebounds five assists so again showing that ability to be you know a triple double threat nightly is pretty much what he was with the Memphis hustle shout out to all the big guards out there because that’s what
The is you know 65 lanky guy but he was quick and he was really decisive and Taylor Jenkins again he always credits the point of going back to the fact that the the gague team know Memphis hustle play a very similar system to the Grizzlies so when guys like you know in
The past Jake rier David Rody Xavier Tillman Vince Williams Jr uh Etc the list goes on GG Jackson when those guys come up to play with the Grizzlies there’s not as much of an adjustment so with that being said I mean dean jro came in first game he’s handling the
Basketball had a couple turnovers because you could tell like he didn’t know where players were going to be just doesn’t know probably get certain guys uh complete strength yet but seven points 10 rebounds five assists super quick little bit guards 65 guard like uh there’s some game uh there so I want to
See you know how they continue to use him over this 10day contract that he’s on when game R got a couple minutes as well but uh dejon jro in that game he he stood out to me a little bit and I think it’ll be fun to see as they put him
Around more talent and and whatnot so uh that’s the guy to watch for me because after his 10day ends at the wi Gabriels 10day in the Grizzlies if they want to because of all the injuries that they have they will be able to either resign one of those guys or bring in someone

About the night that GG Jackson had a career night for the Grizzlies rookie stay tuned for that welcome back to lock on Grizzlies everyone I am dichael Cole a beat writer for the Commercial Appeal right here in Memphis Tennessee recapping all things from the Grizzlies a blowout loss
Against the Oklahoma City th guess what like we always do on walk on Grizzlies whether they lose by 40 50 whether they win by 60 whether they win by 70 uh we’re gonna find the keys from the game and the big things from the game and GG
Jackson stood out to me this was a trying game for GG one I want to start from the standpoint of the score 30 points in GG Jackson in this game and he only had seven at half time GG Jackson had seven points at halftime uh so double digit scoring quarters in both
The third and fourth I believe he had 11 in the second quarter I mean the third quarter and then 12 more in the fourth quarter uh check out a couple stats from my guy Sean Coleman shout out to Sean Coleman he used to be my co-host here on
Lock he said only two second round picks have scored 30 plus points as a teenager in a single game in NBA history one is steo mlin who actually used to play with the Thunder actually and and GG Jackson another one is 28 teenagers have scored 25 plus points 28 teenagers have scored
25 plus points three or more times in a single season GG Jackson is the only one to do it as a non top 20 pick in his respective draft so let me restate that 28 teenagers the previous 27 were all top 20 picks in their respective draft
GG Jackson is a second round pick teenager who no disrespect Theo M but Theo M did it as as as my guy Sean Coleman said he did it once or whatever but GG Jackson is a bucket getter and that’s the name of his game uh I see
Taylor Jenkins put him in the starting lineup for this game for a reason we’re going to touch on here in a little bit but the scor continues to be plus 10 of 19 shooting from the field what I like from G Jackson is he’s not defined by the three-point Ball even though you
Look at a lot of his shots right now it’s a lot of spot up shots and things like that he got to the free throw line and that’s something I think as he goes over his career as he gets stronger he’s going to get to the free throw line more
And more and more seven of eight from the free throw line in this game against the Thunder six rebounds as well had a nice block uh only three personal fouls as well 10 19 shooter and he I mean Taylor Jenis was determined to play 38 minutes played no one else played 31
Minutes I mean think Lamar Stevens was the next closest at about 30 but GG Jackson played 38 minutes so they’re getting their money worth out of the young second round rookie for the Memphis Grizzlies and quite frankly they should because he’s gonna have a big role on this team going forward uh not

It wasn’t the points it wasn’t the rebounds it wasn’t the blocks look let me best explain it like this let’s just go look at GG Jackson’s previous five games before this one let’s go look at the last five I’m going to go through his assist numbers one one one zero
Zero again let me make myself clear G Jackson assist totals from his last five games before the game against Oklahoma City Thunder were one one one zero and zero okay three assists total in his last five games GG Jackson in this game alone had three assists which is a
Career high and he say come on D Michel we’re we’re giving guys Applause for three assists now bear with me bear with me because I’m getting somewhere here he’s had a lot of games with one assist gigg Jackson before this game only had four games with two assists
Four games this season with two assists he hasn’t had a game with two assists since February the 10th again GG Jackson has had a game with at least two assists since February the 10th he had three assists in this game and quite frankly he looked like he could have even had more
And this is why this is why the whole GG Jackson three assist thing is big if you know the Grizzlies Taylor J against harps on a couple things one of those things is how the offense likes to be interchangeable one through four that’s why we’ve seen guys like John Kar Luke
Canard uh play the point guard position play on the ball off the ball bman bang John Mor even goes down to the two tyus Jones when he was here playing the one play the two Etc the Grizzlies like their offense to be interchangeable because of the fact that hey if you get
The board unless you’re the center or whatever in the case the center this year uh has been jiren Jackson Jr for the most part so he can run you know the point or run in transition as well but Memphis likes to move fast you get the
Board push it up the court let’s go interchangeable offense to have an interchangeable offense you need guys who are comfortable uh to be able to be dribble Drive Playmakers at least at the least you don’t need everyone to be John Mor you don’t need everyone to be you
Know Steve Nash or you know uh John Stockton or anything like that you don’t need that you just need someone who’s gonna attack a close out it’s gonna drive drive past that Defender draw multiple Defenders and find the open player off of those multiple Defenders just to be honest with you when GG
Jackson has been doing that a lot this year driving attacking Closeouts the ball’s going up the ball it’s been going up and you know it’s to the bo like when he when he kicks it out and stuff like that I’ll joke with him a little bit we talking
Lock room I said oh you swung the ball today and stuff like that he’ll make like yeah you know they don’t they like to say I don’t swing the ball and things like that but GG Jackson is growing in that area and that’s important because
You remember it was like a week or so ago uh maybe a couple weeks ago at this point Taylor Jenkins said that going into the last stretch of the season one of the things that the Grizzlies want to do is give GG Jackson more primary Creator opportunities and you know I said that
Quite Frank I don’t think the results would be pretty and you see why you know from the numbers that I just G you I mean come on we’re talking about three assists here like uh GG Jackson just had 25 of them but at the end of the day it’s progress
For the 19y old rookie uh the the playmaking part of his offensive game is probably the weakest in terms of uh when you talk about projecting where he’ll be longterm like like I said his finishing around the rim hasn’t been great but at the same time you know he’s going to
Fill out you know he’s going to get stronger and that’s gonna halfway solve that problem that’s gonna solve that problem but with the playmaking yes the game will slow down and things like that but he just has that scores ment ality when he’s attacking the rim and two guys
Are coming at him and G and this is just what I think he hasn’t said this but and G say I feel like he’s like I’m taller than these guys I can jump harder I’m gonna finish around them instead of kicking it out uh hoping that that uh probably 30 something per three-point
Shooter knocks down a shot like so with all that being said I think GG Jackson playmaking needs to continue to grow from here I think the Grizzlies will be wise to continue to put him in situ where we see more of that you know see a potential five assist game let alone
Three remember there was a point early in the season where Vince Williams wasn’t getting a lot of opportunity that’s why even though you know you you look at all his recent games it’s five assists six assist seven like he he’s getting over five assists pretty much every game now Vince Williams that is
But if you go back early in the season he’s only averaging over three and a half assists per game this year because of a lot of games with one assist two assists and whatever and that was mainly because of usage that’s because he was playing on the floor with Desmond ban
Jaren Jackson Jr a little bit Marcus SM John Mar and those guys now he’s got the keys a little bit more and I think that’s what we need to see from GG Jackson as we get to this last stretch of the season if he can show Improvement
As a playmaker I mean come on he’s averaging 0.7 assists right now that’s where GG Jackson is on the assist L but if he can give you more from that perspective from that standpoint I think we’re next season we’re we’re talking about a premier player off of the bench in just year

Continue to grow the most in on the offensive side of the ball but growth is something we’ve seen some players the Grizzlies uh get the experience this year you know uh GG Jackson Vince Williams Z Williams comes to mind before his recent injury we got to see a lot of those guys show
Growth we haven’t got to see several others do the same got J MC Baines you know a little snippet first 30 games or so of the Season we seen jiren Jackson Jr but now Markus smart we didn’t get to see much chiman Grant we didn’t get to see much of a lot
Of guys Kenny Lofton Jr before he was waved my point is we haven’t seen a lot of growth from certain guys because they haven’t gotten uh the availability in the minutes but we’ve seen a whole lot of players playing this season with the Grizzlies 28 players have now suited up for the
Memphis Grizzlies this season after the John jro uh played against the Oklahoma City Thunder 28 ties the grizz’s franchise record for most players playing in one season I think that sums up everything that we’ve experienced here with this Memphis Grizzlies team this year and the Grizzlies actually have done it
Twice they did it uh in 2018 2019 which was jiren Jackson Jor rookie year JB bicker staff’s uh final season in Memphis right before Taylor Jenkins was hired and it actually was my year as an intern at the Tri State Defender when I used to come around the team a little
Bit so I got to see a little bit of that but um it wasn’t just that year 2015 2016 is the year that most people may remember because the Grizzlies actually made the playoffs That season but as uh my co-host Joe mull X and others have kind of pointed out uh the Grizzlies
Didn’t make the playoffs because of what they did late in the season they got to a really good start early in that season and from March on they were pretty bad but they were able to make the playoffs after going 42 and 40 so with that being said the Grizzly’s 28 active players
This season have tied a record of from most in one season and I was shocked to even learn because I know some of you probably think what about the co years the Grizzlies yeah never 28 players in a season in any of their Co years and
Guess what I’m gonna list all 28 real quick for you I’m we’re gonna go through all 28 and I’m gonna you know save the bottom guys for last because if you’re listening you probably want to guess certain guys or what n Go ahead and get think caps on because few of these guys
Only play two three four games like it’s been a long season you know the regulars John Mor Desmond Bane Jaren Jackson Jr Marcus SM uh Santi Alama Luke Canard now let’s get into some of the the recent acquisitions Jordan Goodman dejon jome then there’s Vince Williams right bism
Beond 30 games in David Rody Scotty Pippen Jr Lamar Stevens GG J Xavier Tillman Trey Jimson Z Williams John K tosan AAR Jacob Gillard jayen Noel William Gabriel Jake laravia Dereck Rose UDA Wabi Matthew HT Kenneth l Jr last but not least Shaq Harrison Jr there you have
It 28 players have suited up for the Memphis Griz this season guess what I think they’ll get to 29 and set the record passing the 2018 2019 team passing the 2015 2016 team uh I don’t know who that 29th that that 29th player will be but there are
Options available starting with the most attractive one that most of you would like to hear probably and that’s Brandon Clark uh Brandon Clark has not played a game this season with the Grizzlies recovering from that uh Achilles tear that he suffered uh last Mar last year March 3D March 4th against the Denver
Nuggets on the road he there’s a possibility that he could return and again Zack kimman grizz’s general manager has kind of alluded to the idea of getting Brandon Clark some reps before next season but as the games continue to unfold and whatnot question do the Grizzlies really
Want to do that that’s something that the medical staff and team Personnel will have to decide but Brandon Clark is an option the Grizz the point is the Grizz had a player who missed the entire season was on a 15 man roster so they don’t it’s not a guy that they have to
Sign or anything like that they just look on the roster you ready to go boom play he plays that’s the 29th guy Griz in a new record but there’s also something that I alluded to earlier when I was talking about the je jro and William Gabriel they’re both on 10 10day
Injury hardship exceptions with Dereck rose with you know U you know Marcus Smart Desmond Bane with all these guys out more than multiple weeks Z Williams John Morant the Grizzlies after the 10-day contracts of jro and William Gabriel they’ll like be able to either resign one or potentially both but one
Is what we’re talking about here because we’re talking about a new player but they have the option and if they don’t want to resign those guys they’re probably going to be given another Haring exception from the NBA to go assign another player who can uh be on a
10-day contract as well like we’ve seen you know with Shaq with Shaq Harrison he was on a 10-day contract Jaylen noell was on the 10day contract remember Jordan Goodwin at one point Trey jerson uh the 10day contract the hardship exceptions has been fruitful for the Memphis Grizzlies so right now they’ve
Tied the 28 game franchise record I think they’ll break it you know we we got a little bit we got about a little bit over a month left for the rest of this season I think there’s a decent chance that we’re reflecting again on the Grizzlies breaking the franchise
