Frank Isola “DISAPPOINTED” by Brooklyn Nets 114-106 loss to Orlando Magic; Cam Thomas: 21 Pts

The Honda Nets postgame show the Brooklyn Nets have to go look in the mirror mirror on the wall because this happily ever after belongs to the Orlando Magic Frank they get the win tonight they even the season series at two games a piece and the Brooklyn Nets

In a game they really needed to win here tonight and it showed at times they did come back but Orlando was able to hold them off yeah you really never felt like they were in this game in the third quarter they did close within six then Wendell Carter Jr had a dunk Paulo

Banero a spin layup now next thing you know it’s a point game it built it went to 19 and really the biggest moment of the game was in the fourth quarter the Nets were down 17 they cut it to eight they had gone on you know a 90 run they

Looked like they were in business and then Joe Engles from the corner Joe Engles interesting night for him he had mixed it up a little bit with Nick Claxton also cam Johnson he had a little moment with a brief moment with Mel Bridges as well so it happened to be Joe

Engles in front of the next bench it was I sound like it’s like a clue it was a butler with the Candlestick it was Joe Eng in front of the Net’s bench knocking down a three that went Rim backboard and then in that was an excruciating moment

For the Brooklyn Nets who and at that point they were done you just heard Frank Isola describe that shot by Engles and now it’s going to be included in this fourth yeah 114 106 was the final banero with 21 points he was six of six from the field just missed a double

Double he had nine assists Camp Thomas had 218 and four he filled it up but the Nets they don’t shoot well from three once again Frank they were Hot in Cleveland on Sunday but tonight they only shoot 27% and what worries you now is they’re 10 and 22 on the road still

Got a lot of road games left to play 26 and 40 overall Atlanta we talked about them being all banged up Atlanta’s in Portland tonight so if Atlanta could win tonight they would move four games up do remember however that the Nets do own the tiebreaker let’s go back to that

Epic third quarter because that is not going to be a quarter that’s put in a museum anywhere for NBA highlights it took 35 minutes it was just a sloppy quarter on both sides turnovers whistles almost every possession when when the quarter started yeah there were six technicals in this game overall so to

Your point it was chippy so remember at halftime coaches on both teams are making adjustments but the referees are in the locker room they know that the game it’s getting a little volatile not that not that there were that many hard fouls in the game but there was a lot of

Talking going on and I think the referees called it really really tight in that third quarter it took a long time to play it there were a lot of free throws and you thought maybe the Nets could get back in the game just from the free throw line alone especially since

Orlando was missing but that third quarter was rough yeah the center of the universe in all the chippiness here tonight Joe Eng Les had his hat in the ring in all of the things it’s what’s the number is 15 16 where you get automatically suspended for a game I

Don’t think he’ll reach that but you know look Nick claxon does play with a lot of emotion but in a moment like that I get it you’re trying to run down court but the referees when you lift your arm like that they’re going to see that and

Sure enough what that dunk ended up being was a one-point dunk because you made the dunk the technical foul was called on you and Orlando made the free throw it there’s a difference though Frank between playing with emotion and doing something like that because you’re you’re getting momentum back and this

Isn’t the first time we’ve seen this out of Nick claxon this season with the Brooklyn Nets where the Nets are either coming back or adding to their lead I can remember a time this is the Memphis game here Frank that was part of a 70 run right look look that’s the play on

Alama the one where he dunks it here and then he takes the ball and he slaps it down he got called for a technical so the Nets run a 70 run at that point this is in Charlotte over the weekend when he when he dunks the ball and then runs into the

Defender but those are you know I get it when you dunk the ball and you’re showing a lot of emotion in a lot of ways those can be momentum building plays everyone understands that but when you do something like that you’re stopping the momentum not only so you

Get Jaylen Suggs in the face with an elbow the referee stop the game they go to the scorers table they review the play they make the announcement we know how long it takes for them you know the headphones on headphones off they they mention they give the call to the fans

In the arena and then Orlando goes down to the other end of the court and they take the free throw so any of the momentum that was starting to build up just from of the emotion of that dunk it kind of dies in that moment because of

You know the game being stopped for what essentially amounts to maybe two or three minutes yeah the the headset Hokey Pokey if you will with the officials but you know you look at plays like that and we didn’t mention after Engles hit that three The Big Three that you talked

About at the top of the show claxon came down the floor and threw a shoulder into him there I mean that right there could have gotten him ejected from the game I again and that’s why I think Nick Claxton looks at some of the guys on his

Team and I think he sees a lot of guys that are somewhat mild mannered so I think that he kind feels on his own that I need to be a little bit of an intimidating player plus I think a lot of opposing players look at me I’m tall

And thin so they think I’m going to be a pushover so I get that part of it but I think you’re exactly right in that moment the referees are kind of keyed in on Nick claxon and I think he did get away with one because I think in that

Moment with with uh Joe Engles just standing there and not only you running into him but you’re lifting your arm up enough Tony Brothers who’s a referee that doesn’t take any nonsense and we saw that in the third quarter that’s a moment where you could get ejected from

The game and it could be another technical CU remember at that we said that the Engle shot was a killer that was a dagger but it was still an 11-point game with seven minutes to go there’s still enough time to mount a comeback all right Frank we’re of 26

Tonight the Orlando Magic missed six of their free throws they were trying to leave the door open for the Nets all night long but they hold on they win it by eight they even it up the season series of two moments ago inam head coach Kevin oi met the media and our

Megan triplet had the first question you mentioned that energy was going to be one of the keys for tonight you guys had moments where you guys were able to kind of cut it back into single digit just what was the magic doing that was the biggest concern um the biggest concern

Is that that that’s a physical team and you know we talk about body on and how they was playing physical with us on the defensive end and then physical on the offensive end making cuts and and sharing the ball uh they just did a really good job taking the physicality

To us and we just cannot allow a team to do that especially a team that good um we have to show physicality we got to show toughness and we just didn’t do it tonight we had spurts like you said uh got back in the

Game but you can’t get down by 15 and 18 in the first half and first quarter thinking you going to come back um especially on the road and this is a common thing for us getting down in certain games um we just got to do a better job um showing our physicality

You know hitting first and continue to hitting and we just didn’t we didn’t do that tonight when you mentioned that it’s been a common thing just what is your message to the group about how to get over that part yeah just you know like the Cleveland game we started out

With stops and you know the defensive end and energy um and this team is a is a good first quarter team and you know but like I said if you just stay in the fight and you do it the right way you’ll get back in the game and we got back in

The game and then the second half third quarter we come out with two turnovers um you just can’t do that to a team you you you back in a game seven and you have two turnovers and they get two layups that just gets they mojo on and

That puts us on on on our heels and we just can’t do that um like I say our margin of era is too small and we have to make shots but that can’t be predicated on our energy and our effort and our defense so you know um you know

I believe and we got to get one in Indiana um and that’s what it is it’s the next game next play and um we got to have guys stand up and and look in the mirror and get better and be you know be vocal leaders and understand when we go

Through a per where we not making shots we still believeing we talking to each other and we can’t go mute in those times and um that was my message um tonight understanding that each roster is different and games are going to have you know each different character to on

Life of their own um I mean in your mind do you have any kind of theory or explanation as to why energy level flly so greatly you know whether it’s Atlanta High Energy Cleveland high energy and some of the other nights where maybe that fight isn’t there yeah um no I just

You know you just got to keep demanding in and you kind of keep you know letting them know that you know that’s how we win games and you know I see it in them um it’s just the consistent part of it and and bringing it out and the

Toughness part of it is you know that’s that’s where we have to be um and I just want them to keep looking in the mirror I keep looking at myself in the mirror how can I get them better how can I do certain things I take the challenge on

Each and every day and and they take the challenge on but we have to that has to become our identity um we just can’t win no other way uh we can’t have turnovers um you know of course we got to make shots um but sometimes we not making

Shots you can stop the other opponent and that was just too easy for them to get in their flow and get to the rim I think they had 20 Rim shots the first half like that just can’t be us um and you know I’m going to keep demanding it um and

Hopefully they still see some light at the end of the tunnel cuz it’s not the season not over with and we got to keep playing like you know one step at a time and one game at a time and can we get better each game and each minute we step

Out on the court and be together so um that’s what where I’m at and um hopefully we see more intensity and more effort in Indiana consistently consistently like I said I’ve seen it here but it has to be consistent um it just can’t be the dips that we

Have with Cam Johnson obviously what did you like about what he brought back coming from injury and coming off the benches is something we can expect for the foreseeable future um we going we going to always look at what’s best for the team um I just thought he took care

Of his minutes um he finished the game for us and you know that’s what I want him to understand um I thought he was great I thought he was talking out there he was trying his best um May couple shots U which was great um but I loved

His intensity and how he tried to win for our team and cam Thomas eight rebounds you guys always talk about doing more than scoring I believe that ties his career high just how big of that is for him to show the other side of his game besides scoring just with

The rebounding tonight yeah that’s great we want our guards to rebound um but when we rebound from our guards we want them to push out um so understanding that you know when we when we Rebound with our guards we don’t need an outlet we can just push so want our guys to run

With those guys and rebound and continue to come down in help Nick help day Ron help doe um rebound um to a best to our best of our ability so um that was great with um Cam doing that we want him to continue that I think that’s seven and

Eight last two games that’s that’s big time for him Coach um I know as a competitor obviously a tough loss but just focusing on the positive what is it like developing with these young guys and seeing them uh just grow every single night you got a handful of

Players of so many different skill sets what is that like I’m just grateful to coach them it’s an honor to coach them each and every night um you know this God has blessed me with this opportunity not only be a coach but a life coach and um just give them life

Lessons as we go into this um you know it’s just been a been a blessing for me um and I know our guys got some fight I know for spe my you don’t go to my sh m e spe m spee spee foree for for for spee spe spee fore spe spee

See um hi CH I’m there foree spee see spe for
