Speaking at a pregame press conference before the Warriors’ 109-99 loss to the Mavericks on Wednesday at American Airlines Center, Kidd was asked what he thought of Paul potentially passing him on the all-time list, with the NBA Hall of Famer praising Paul’s playing ability and influence on younger players.
“There’s no better person to pass it,” Kidd said. “He’s had an incredible, Hall of Fame career… When you talk about the point guard position, he’s the blueprint of success. He’s going to go down as one of the best to run a team.
“I think a lot of younger players look up to him. He’s a competitive guy, he has a big heart, loves the competition. He’s not afraid. No better person to pass me in assists.”
Warriors coach Steve Kerr also had plenty of glowing remarks about Paul, noting during his pregame press conference how unique the 38-year-old’s skill set is and his impact on the game.

I’m sure the responses here will be rational and nuanced.

It honestly helps CP3 that there are other all time great point guards that never won a championship. Steve Nash and John Stockton in particular
Real
I don’t know why this trend has started where people leave the “3” off of the nickname, but y’all need to… not do that anymore.
chris paul is my least favorite player in nba history but sadly it’s true
I think he’s just a winner in general, even if he never broke through and won the whole thing. He’s the full package at point guard. Everywhere he’s gone he’s elevated the whole team with his leadership. The Suns Finals run but especially the OKC season where everyone thought he was washed and they got the 4 seed.
If not for injuries and running into the KD Warriors he’d be looked at in a different light.
Chris Paul will go down as one of the most underrated players of all time often just because of some bad luck at the worst possible time.
He’s had some playoff disappointments but it’s undeniable that he was one of the best players in the regular season year in and year out from 2008-2015.
CP3 is the best pure point guard in the history of the sport.
Chris Paul is definitely one of the all time great.
Also Fuck Chris Paul. Whoop that Clip!!!
There’s no better person to pass it….”it” being the blame to someone else for never making an NBA finals
Point God.
Epitome of a 16-game player, he’s your pure point guard when all the chips are down
How is he the “blueprint for success” if he’s never won a championship??
CP3 bows to the Paul god
All I’ll say is Hornets CP3 is still probably the best point guard I’ve ever seen. Fast af, tough, excellent passer, 3 level scorer, great defender. If he was two inches taller and never tore his meniscus he would’ve been a pantheon player
“J Kidd on CP” lmao
I might be biased and our current team is making this statement less true every week but the Chris Paul led Hornets were the most fun team I’ve watched. I made sure to watch every game. Lobs to Tyson chandler, setting up David west for mid range daggers, kicking it out to Peja for the 3. The duels with other PGs (especially Deron Williams)
He’s also one of the most annoying players ever. But yeah first ballot HOF, one of the best PGs to do it
My favorite description of Chris Paul is from Zach Lowe (I think?): he said something to the effect of “he dribbles so low to the ground and moves so fast that it looks like he’s driving around the court on a miniaturized motor scooter”
Where’s Scott foster fit?
I fucking hate CP3 but I’d still take him over Stackton, Kidd and Nash
