Another monster performance from DA tonight, but we didn’t have anyone else who could help him. He drilled a three though so I consider tonight as a win.

Brunson shot more free throws than our whole team lol

Here are some of my thoughts on this game:
* Brunson’s footwork is absolutely insane and he’s really fun to watch. That being said, some of these continuation calls he gets are…a little questionable lol.
Positives:
* Ayton had a much harder night offensively with no Ant – he really had to work for most of his buckets without Ant getting double teamed and spoon feeding him wide open midrange bunnies. That being said, he adjusted nicely – he crashed the offensive glass, had some good post seals, and even hit a three. Good night by him. I wonder if he can take some more threes going forward. The one he took today looked pretty good.
I feel like in the beginning of this season, in a game like this where he wasn’t getting spoonfed easy buckets and had to go a little out of his comfort zone, he would have finished with like 8 points on 4/6 shooting. So props to him for finding ways to contribute even if it wasn’t as easy and comfortable as he would like. * Justin Minaya and Ashton Hagans probably aren’t real NBA players, but they HUSTLE and defend at a pretty high level. It’s kind of nice to watch and appreciate, even if they hopefully won’t be getting minutes for us in future years. * Despite the complete and utter lack of offensive talent and spacing out there tonight, I thought we actually did a pretty good job getting quality open shots – just couldn’t knock them down. I also like the fact that we seemed to make a concerted effort to run out in transition after the Knicks missed shots – I feel like we could have used some more of that at points this season. * Despite not shooting it well (again) I thought Scoot had a much better outing than yesterday. He did a credible job running the offense, and he also was able to get to his spots at will unlike yesterday. That being said, maybe it’s my imagination but he’s not moving like he’s 100% healthy out there. And after Dame, Sharpe, and debatably GP2 coming back early from injuries, playing like shit, and then getting re-injured I have to say I’m a little worried. Disclaimer: that’s just complete and utter speculation on my part and I have nothing to base that on besides my gut feelings. * I like that Kris is actually shooting open jumpers without hesitating now, even if they don’t always go in. He needs to shoot open shots with confidence.
Negatives:
* Scoot struggled to score the ball once again tonight. He’s super talented passing the ball, but clearly he’s got his work cut out for him in the offseason because none of it matters if he can’t score effectively. I think he will get there eventually, but he’s got some work to do. Also he’s way too aggressive on defense and gets whistled for a ton of fouls. Part of it is being a rookie, but a lot of it is just making dumb mistakes by gambling and being over-aggressive (Toumani is also a rookie and never gets this problem, for instance). * Banton chucked up a ton of bad shots tonight. I get that we didn’t have a ton of other creators so part of it was out of necessity, but it was very ugly to watch. Also, there was one point where he missed two bad shots in a row (including waving off a screen to go ISO and badly miss a layup) then walked back on defense leading to Reath having to take a foul. That’s kind of unacceptable for a fringe roster guy. * We really badly need some wings who can space the floor (or for one of our current ones to develop a shot). I get that Grant and Sharpe are injured, but it feels like Jabari, Kris, and Toumani are all below average shooters positionally and it really hurts the offense. * Duop Reath should never be playing the 4.

At least Brunson didn’t drop 50 lol

Another solid night from DA lol

Did no one tell DA this is a lost season? Guy is busting his ass out there and really putting in a shift every night. He was getting absolutely harassed under the rim and just kept scoring. Huge respect for what he’s done since the new year, even on nights where the guard play is awful.

I’ve appreciated the mini arcs we had watching the season, going from Sharpe running the show, Brogdon running it, Scoot running it, Ant running it, Jerami some of his, the raise of Reath, the unexpected Dalano arc, and now this Ayton story of him establishing his footing here

Whatever, Knicks, at least we didn’t lose to the Hawks recently

Meanwhile Amen: 20/11/4 on 9-12, 3 steals, 1 TO and 3 fouls in 28 min.

Ayton getting 31 on 57% while being the only focal point for the defense of one of the best defensive team is wild. I love that he adjusted when his shot wasn’t falling by clashing the glass like a madman. There was a play where diventcio tries to box him out and he does a rush pass move and swing fiventcio away
Oops95
Scoot’s first drive of the game was to his left and finished with his left hand. That is all.
