Raptors Season is OVER after crushing loss to Magic – time to focus on the draft
E uh I thought that the first half it did a pretty solid job outside of those uh two first minutes to start uh to start the game after that uh I thought that we did really good job of fighting and we kept them to two offensive rebounds uh only in the first half
And uh we were able with our aggressiveness to come up with with Steals and opportunities for us to run in in transition but as as the game progressed their physical um you know attributes came to to the full light obviously more often than not you want
To like Brady sort of play through his mistakes tonight A Little Less of that maybe down the stretch what do you tell them maybe not tonight but in the in the coming tomorrow about this as a learning experience um I think the biggest thing uh with his learning experience here is
Learning how to play to start first of all because he’s been starting for like couple of games now second thing is uh how to play starters minutes and that was uh he played a game with 39 minutes then 36 minutes he had a couple of games
In a row so to the certain degree I expected a dip at at some point and um unfortunately it was that night today he he uh he did not have that extra juice that he usually brings and it was a tough night but uh sometimes like yes playing through mistakes but sometimes
You know he needs to understand like I can’t do this and that there is a fine line sometimes learning is on the bench as well he went with jamas in that spot where we’ve seen Javon and and Jaylen a bit recently um why did you go with him
There and and what did you think of what you got from um he’s uh he just signed on the second 10day with us uh he’s yeah young talented player that we wanted to take a look at him because he just joined our organization we don’t know a
Lot about him and what I did like is that scrappiness and uh and defensive effort that he was giv us uh he was able to to score on uh to make two threes in the first half as well had seven points at a halftime I just like that his own
Ball defense and aggressiveness that he brought to the team today you uh you mentioned that physicality early you guys have had injuries to the front Court like these games is kind of like sophist pushing the B of the Hill how do you keep motivating guys to guard up positions repeatedly night after
Like um to be honest with you I don’t have any problem with that because this group shows up to work every single day you know every practice every shoot round they bring their best and they’re focused and they’re asking questions and they’re really trying to improve and uh
That’s my mindset as well all we can do is control uh our work and what we put in and uh as I said I I thought that we did some some really good stuff tonight we just could not put it enough minutes of that good basketball to to to win a
Basketball game but all this experience is going to give us a lot of lot of uh uh benefits in the future um how beneficial is it to play the same team again uh but this time obviously in their home court but point up footage yeah it is very very good we
Just talked about it in the locker room it’s going to be great for us to learn from what we did in this game what we can improve what are the potential adjustments you know we can kind of like look at it at the mini playoff series playing the same opponent twice in you
Know in 48 hours so um and I’m really excited to to go to film and go to to practice and uh to to get our guys ready to go out there and then play better game you have 14 points Off the Bench from Jordan what did you see from him
Tonight uh Jordan um I saw for 14 points as well same like you did but I also I also saw Improvement on defensive end you know uh he’s been working very hard to improve his on ball defense uh activities you know staying in a stance staying in front of the defense there um
But there is the next layer to it you know I’m I’m greedy I always want more I always want better from all the players and I believe that he’s a player that can give us even more you got a lot of guys at different roles GR gradi in starting minutes o starting power
Forward Kelly’s playing starter Center minutes how do you evaluate them in their different spots Doug sounds like you want some minutes as well it sounds like you want to play uh theor it’s uh it’s it’s really uh uh goals that we uh that we lay down to all those guys
Expectations and then evaluating in dead regard you know we’re learning about them but at the same time there is a game plan uh there is individual player development plan for each of those guys and really trying to see how they’re uh how they’re doing in those goals you
Know and and I I never like to go like game by game and just like make conclusions based of that I like to give players multiple games and opportunities so we can really take a good look at them are there any specifics in terms of next steps next goals for Grady as he
Kind of progresses gets more opportunity here I mean uh I think uh what he’s going through now is inval you know starter minutes playing heavy minutes uh you know he he he looks tired but he needs to learn how to play through that you know he played more
Games this season than he played previous five years of his life you know college season is is getting to the end and he’s still still playing so there is for a 20- year- old there is so much to learn like even like to to the certain
Degree failure and the bad game is good because he’s going to go back he’s going to analyze it he’s going to learn something from it and he’s going to come back uh being better so um uh to answer your question I I think he just like one
Day taking one day at a time approach and uh you know taking a lot of uh a lot of uh lessons on defensive end and on the offensive end what he can do better early on in the season one of the first things you talked about with Brady was
Working on footwork and the stuff up top to get up Court over top of Springs how have you noticed the progression in his ability to kind of navigate the physicality of ball at the NBA level that’s a very good memory you have remembering what we talked about at
The start of the Season uh about Grady um I see a lot of improvement there um you know even in season he a he was able to gain a little bit of weight muscle weight good weight uh he’s moving better he’s learning moving patterns on defensive end he’s able to catch up not
Just because of his foot speed but also what he but because he’s doing the right thing there and the same thing applies on offense he’s already working on some stuff that they’re going to try to unleash this uh this summer league offensively and defensively but it just
Takes time and takes a lot of work and takes a lot of uh progression in his work I got uh Grayson’s Jersey I play with him in Milwaukee that’s my guy so just had I had him hanging on to it for me for a little
Bit Jordan what do you hope to get out of the last 15 or have been hoping to get out these last 20 games or so given your situation I think just steady Improvement um on both ends of the floor uh it’s something that they’re preaching every day uh in practice uh not just
Myself but the whole team um and just you know that’s really the biggest thing just improving and you know yeah getting better every day I you’ve been on some pretty good teams up to this point minutes can sometimes be hard to to get at situations so when
You’re in one now where there’s a lot of rentway here you kind of feel an urgency that to take advantage uh yeah definitely um you know it’s it’s definitely easier to play you know when you’re getting consistent minut minutes nice night in and night out um but you
Just got to it’s probably the NBA just got to make the most of of every opportunity um however it comes uh obviously it’s not ideal right now with guys being injured um you want to get those minutes because you know with the full healthy team so um it is what it is
Just got to you know keep trying to capitalize on those moments so Jordan you mentioned how you’re trying to get better obviously individually but there’s a lot of guys on this team are getting more minutes than they’ve ever seen before what’s it like learning as a group learning as a
Team um it’s been good it’s it’s a challenge we’re all facing you know it’s we’re all you know most of us are new guys on this team um outside of a handful and uh we’re still you know meshing everybody’s learning each other still um we’re all for the most part
We’re all pretty you know young or relative in age outside of I guess you could say Grady um so you know we’re all learning each other figuring out and like I said we’ve been working hard in practice every day uh and these coaches have done a great job with the
Development of everybody uh everybody’s locked in and just taking those steps has it been difficult to build chemistry on the Fly I mean there’s not a ton of practice time at this point in the season and there’s been so many different lineups and guys in and out what’s the learning curve like for
Groups that in some cases have never played together uh it’s different but like I said it’s part of being this in this league uh something you just got to do and adjust on the Fly um you know it can happen happen to anybody like I said this whole everybody here is going
Through it now like I said we got a basically a whole new whole whole new team um and I think long term it’ll you know help us out and uh and it’s another thing where we can just improve together uh nobody’s perfect and everybody on this team has room to improve and I
Think that’s what’s great about it and you know we should just keep doing it moving forward seeing that you have to play Orlando again in Orlando um what was the one thing that stood out to you or two things that stood out to you tonight about them uh I think first
Obviously their defense their size um you know they’re a really good defensive team uh I think we just got to you know stay stay on the on the glass uh get some of those rebounds now than have second chance points and then just limit turnovers uh you know they’re
Really uh active and uh get into passing Lane so just got to you know take care of the ball Gary obviously this is a young team you’re one of the older guys now and I think the longest tenur at least of of the guys that are playing
Right now has your role changed it all from a leadership standpoint do you feel like gu picking your brain just in terms of the league and what they need to be doing with these minutes they’re getting most definitely uh even just before the season started again uh me and Coach Evo
Uh we’ve been working with me and Grady we’ve been the group together basically this since the summer you know just when I first came in I was just trying to really show him a certain mindset a certain approach a certain Focus you should have whether it’s in between
Drills whether it’s paying attention to how your footing is on your jumpers you know all types of things and he’s been super receptive and he’s asked me a lot of questions too on the court he asked me questions about what tattoos he should get all all types of stuff so you
Know it’s been it’s been cool so far but we continue to keep building everybody you know is trying to grow together and you know keep going what tattoo would po if he just he had an idea or something I told him he should it’ be nice if he did
It so he might surprise yall would have posted something later in this summer or something tto what I mean you said that you guys prepared together all year what have you seen from him you know on the court Improvement wise especially with him becoming a starter over the last
Week for sure I just really seen him getting more comfortable you know obviously he’s thrown he’s thrown into a situation that’s not you know relatively easy a new coach uh new trying to figure everything out we had a lot of changes as a rookie so that could be that could
Be a lot for you but again he’s handled it well he’s handled his his g-league stin when they sent him down he’s been super receptive he’s been like a sponge he’s ready to learn he’s ready to keep going take the next step and you know he
Has so much more Improvement to do and so much more add to his game you know his opportunity is Limitless so he must continue to keep working you know and I continue to try to help him as much as I can did you tell him after a tough game
Today him personally was kind of tough out there he’s getting used to like all these minutes all these games he’s never play this many before no matter what keep going the same thing I’m telling Jordan when he comes in shoot score the same thing I’m telling uh Jr Ramsey
Everybody um everybody come in and be aggressive be assertive you know obviously it’s the next man up and there’s a whole bunch of opportunity out there for a lot of people to Showcase and try to help us get as many wins as we can and help contribute towards
Winning gri how long did it take you to become like physically NBA ready um you know to the point where you can handle 35 minutes one night 35 minutes back yeah for sure you know my Approach my my first time in the league was kind of
Different you got to think I was a second round pick I went to an established team with eight years that was already together so there was no plan my first year I was like a like trainer for the Olympics I was running and lifting every single day I was
That’s all I was doing for basically a year straight you know and I accepted it I delve into my work and whatever came with it came with it and obviously you know my dad is big and you know body is good and we’ve been doing a lot of
Calisthenics since I was a little kid so from day one I always had you know baby pitches where I’m stocky so yeah what’s your goal for the rest of the season personally man try to get as many wins as we can try to contribute towards again try to help guys get ready again
This is our season we’re still fighting for some but it’s even a bigger pitch than that down the line we even starting to get ready for next year with little stuff and just we want to implement and everything we just trying to work on it
Try to figure it out make it work and that’s what we’re going to continue to keep doing and that’s really the main focus and goal you mentioned just gym basically that type of stuff to start your career you get tra you get your opportunity you pop off in the playoffs
You come to Toronto you get put into a starting position you get bumped in and out you stay professional the whole time now the longest tended Raptor that’s playing and seeing all these different guys what have you learned about yourself through all these different situations across the years uh really
Just I wouldn’t say learn about myself it’s just kind of something I already know again I getting I’m getting a hell of opportunity to play in the NBA it’s a great League again just because I may be sat playing and not playing and benched and not benched and opportunity may be
Gone and opportunity may be here again I just continue to work and again control what I control try to be a good teammate try to be a good you know person player you know go out there and just try to help to contribute towards winning as much as I
Can that’s really my only main focus that I really have those experience help you relate to some of these younger guys because you’ve been in so many different roles yeah you you could say that and I honestly feel like I could help a lot even well a lot well too cuz again
There’s not one part of the NBA that have not seen like for example Scotty Barnes he came into the league who he is what he’s going to be everything given to him lights Glitz glamour I didn’t went from the bench behind the bench I didn’t been in a suit I didn’t been on
The court I didn’t been a starter I didn’t been back bench I didn’t so there’s no part of the game I think I haven’t touched or been a part of so I feel like that just helps me how to handle things and how to go about things again with just all those different
Situations I’ve been in my whole career the uh the glasses the the aggressive cut what do you make of that fashion TR like the Oaky style they came back in yeah N I feel like again fashion always going to regurgitate itself it’s never going going to leave again it’s always
Going to go over 10 years and then they going to bring back skinny jeans and they going to bring back big pants and it’s all on what you trying to do and how you trying to dress you know what I’m saying okay this game broke me broke my
Brain um honestly it’s not even this game it’s just been a really it’s been a really tough um 24 hours just this is tough man burying a child um you know especially when your parents that love your children the way that these these two love their children
Is really tough you I don’t understand how to be a raptor fan right now and not be thinking about this much more than I’m thinking about lottery picks or thinking about some stupid meaningless game against the Orlando Magic or anything of that sort um it is difficult of
Course prayers are obviously with Rowan Barrett RJ Barrett family um you know my my my grandmother once told me that the hardest pain that she ever had was losing a child my father and I can only empathize that’s got to be tough you expect to lose your parents in
Your life you do not expect to lose your children especially if at 19 um so that’s just a really tough uh tough way to start out this uh you know this live but also a very difficult way for the team I think to close out the season knowing that one of their
Brothers in arms is you know going through something so horrific um I don’t know if he’ll be back um I’m sure he will be uh knowing him a little bit I’m sure he’ll try to get back to the basketball court you know for guys like RJ basketball is a sanctuary it’s
Not a job it’s you know something that he really loves to do and you know to be away from that for an extended period of time it’s like you know that might do more harm than good um I did think a part of me thought um that the Raptors would come out and
Just win this game for him and that you know in the first half it looked like they they they just might you know there there was a lot of tough shot making despite the fact that Grady dick was the team worst you know negative 32 I I do
Feel like he had some really promising moments in tonight’s game if you haven’t watched the magic a lot this season there have been a lot of teams that have struggled to put up 80 points 90 points against this team a lot actually they are a really Scrappy really def really good defensive team
They don’t even have all their parts right now but yeah like what they they do have is impressive and what’s coming up in the pipeline is very impressive as well I’m a very big fan of Anthony black I believe I had him forth on my big board and nothing I’ve seen would move
Him much away from fourth fifth think he’s a very talented young player and I think you know at some point he will offer a substantial upgrade on what they have in Cole Anthony and Marquel folz by the way I love Marquel folz but I I do think Anthony black has some Next Level
Upside and you saw you know just a team that had another gear that the Raptors couldn’t touch and you knew it you know you knew it coming in you saw Jordan Noir hitting threes you saw jamus Ramy getting into the paint you saw Grady dick getting paint touches and
Swinging it out and you’re just like man manual quickly cannot get free and he is your only bet to win this game and trying to understand a lot about how the es and flows of games within games right how often you’ll see a team kind of hang around until the
Third quarter until another team is just ready to push it for five minutes and just blow them out and it’s never a mystery to me really which team is the one that’s capable of doing that and tonight you know it felt like hey if they just dump it into Paulo force a
Double cut and just guard really hard for five minutes they could blow this team out because it was just so shaky there were a lot of mistakes on the magic end uh which allowed the Raptors to get free a little bit and I think that you know for the Raptor part they
Did play hard you know they played hard they played Super underman um last game I made a very very big mention of jonte Porter and I had said that jonte was the best player in that game and that’s at the BX spus the next morning and TI out I was right he was
The best player in that game he posted a career-high 16.5 plus box with minus in that game that is legit Superstar [ __ ] for one game but he didn’t just do it for one game he did it for two straight games and that was Denver and he did it um
Against Detroit so a lot of people said oh well you know he can be a star against Detroit well he did it against the defending world champions as well jonte Porter had a great game the last two games tonight he goes 0 for four but he had a pretty substantial you know impact
Defensively um you know he had let just take a look at it for a second here this is a call-in show if you want to call in definitely we can talk um I do mean the title very much it is time to focus on the draft um Marsh Madness is coming
Around we’re going to talk about March Madness we’re going to talk about which players to follow there’s really not a lot to talk about with the Toronto Raptors as currently constructed unless Grady or IQ or RJ or one of these guys go off for a really big game or you know
They flash something totally um that we haven’t seen before or maybe they flash something that is terrible there’s really not a hell of a lot to talk about with Jordan noara and jamus Ramsey two guys who may or may not be on this team next year obviously we can still talk
About the game we will still talk about the game because these games are still happening even though very many people are not watching them Gary Tren Jr be remiss if I had not mentioned he did have 31 points in his return to the lineup um goes seven for 11 from three
He made some really big shots down the stretch I don’t even know where they would have been in a game like this without him it’s a pretty low-scoring Affair by NBA standards nice to see oai abaji kind of get going a little bit a
Lot of stuff in the paint not a lot of Threes going down for him 0 for three from three Grady dick goes 0 for three from three which means the Kansas Jayhawks go 0 for six from three not what you need against a team that can
Pack the paint the way the magic can uh Bruce Brown comes off the bench with 30 minutes at this point I got to ask why what are we doing here he is a veteran okay he is one of the lone veterans playing right now he and Kell linic
Getting a combined you know this many minutes like it’s not I’m not of the opinion that you’re going to get anything by playing you know Jaylen McDaniels but I am kind of a little bit disappointed to see Javon Freeman Liberty getting dmcd after dmcd partially because I do think that
He would help weirdly enough I think he might be able to help in ways that maybe Bruce Brown can’t I realize Bruce Brown’s a better player than a lot of players on this team I just happen to think that when your offense is so suffocated and you’re so struggling to
Just get to the rim you know and and crack the defense a little bit like the Raptors were abysmal in the half court offense today in transition they were fine you know attacking you know off turnovers they were fine it’s the half court offense and the process through which how do you
Force the collapse right if manual quickly can be contained on the point of attack which you know a lot of times tonight he was and if his deep three isn’t like really falling which tonight you know we’ talked a lot about well he’s talked a lot with Darko about like 10 threes 10
Threes well tonight he took three three-pointers and he got one up so it was clear that the Orlando Magic had put it in their minds that hey we’re not going to let Emanuel quickly kill us right we see the numbers we see what he’s been doing we’re going to make
Somebody else beat us and tonight that was Gary Trent Jr oai abaji Grady Dick Bruce Brown Jordan aara they were like anyone but him and I think it worked it was a good game plan you know Jamal Mosley is a really good coach and I think it was a good
Game plan worth noting Kelly oen you know he ends the game with 10 points I believe he entered the fourth quarter uh was four so he was pretty invisible tonight for the most part he also had three turnovers it was almost like a daily occurrence where now he and oai
Abashi have one turnover between them on a simple pass I don’t understand it personally why those guys are just never on the same page but it’s been happening pretty much since he got traded here where every single game there’s like a completely unforced turnover between those two guys it’s not a dribble
Handoff that gets picked off it’s literally passing and the guy’s just not there it happens so often it’s almost glaring because they did play together all year in Utah so I found that a little bit strange um in terms of you know the abundance of riches which is
The Orlando Magic’s depth and roster you know Wendell Carter Jr big game you know hits the three I don’t understand personally okay if you’re if you’re not trying to win I get it but if you’re trying to win you must know the scouting report on Wendel Carter is that the dude
Can shoot like how are we leaving him wide open for that final three I mean that was a bit of a back breaker not that I thought the Raptors were going to win this game at all but leaving Wendel Carter open for three just literally looking at him and saying nah you it’s
Cool I mean we made such a fuss about Scotty Barnes leaving Evan Mobley open for three and just kind of like waving him off and just you know wait flapping his hand at him and being like now whatever but you know what that was Evan Mo’s first three of the
Game this was Wendell Carter’s fourth attempt and he is a substantially better shooter and has been for a very long time than Evan Moy so I just don’t understand leaving a shooter like that open when really it’s you know a big who can shoot is the number one guy that you
Want to close out to because unlike the guard who can shoot or the dynamic guard who can shoot like a I don’t know an Anthony Simons or something like that there isn’t as much of a threat that they’re going to beat you off the dribble and just get to the rim in two
Steps right so yeah like the last thing you want to give up to Wendell Carter is an open layup or an open dunk but the second to last thing you want to give up is an open three especially from one of his hot spots so I found that a little
Bit weird J sugs a little bit too much chirping for my liking but you know he kept The Classy in the post game I don’t know y’all seen the post game um you know um I’ve been saying this since last year been very very impressed with him
After being very not high on him at all in the draft um you know he’s really turned me around a lot in terms of how he’s morphed himself from the expectations versus the role you know the role that he’s taken on for this ATA magic team is you know he’s their leader
In in a lot of ways like defensively he’s their quarterback right and he he played a great great deal of college football so or high school football um so he would know a lot about being a quarterback and yeah he’s just he’s communicative he’s animated he’s
Energetic he’s like a ping you know he’s like a ping ping ball ping pinball you know he he’s got weirdly enough you know there was a lot of talk about him being Kyle Lowry esque he’s got some Kyle Lowry stuff you know defensively he’s very active he’s very disruptive and he
Creates a lot of plays offensively it’s coming along he’s been shooting much better from three weirdly enough you know for all the people saying oh my God jayen SS be ideal kyar replacement yeah I mean there that the trend is actually moving very much in very close to kyar
Actually and he might actually be a better Defender right now than kyari ever has been just big he’s just big you know he’s 6’3 and a half and he plays like he’s 6’8 just um very impressive um game from him overall um yeah France vogner was France Bogner
You know fron and you know uh his brother Mo I mean they they’re just a load to take on their size skill raac shows inanity couldn’t help but notice you know when I’m watching France fogner standing next to Grady dick how substantial a size Gap there is and I
Mean I’ve seen Grady dick up close he’s a huge dude like 68 but like fr’s like a legit 610 and a half 611 and for his ball skills and like the way that he’s able to do some of the stuff man I look at Orlando as the closest thing to OKC
In the East you know um I know that that sounds crazy I get it but please understand OKC was not OKC last year they’re OKC this year also one of my favorite all-time favorite play Jonathan Isaac got off for 20 very impactful minutes off the off the bench I thought
He was really um disruptive and you know that block on Grady dick was impressive I do think it was a block but naturally you know with the replay they gota you got to make it you got to make a case like that’s definitively going to be
Overturned and it was so close that they couldn’t overturn it but yeah um Cole Anthony was good you know like he was solid I think for them um you know it’s just again like you’ve got guys coming off the bench on the other side that would definitively be starting for you
Jonathan Isaac would definitely be starting for you right now marel pH would be starting for you Cole Anthony would be starting for you like it’s just a deep team it’s just a really deep team and and that says Anthony black DN PCD but I’m like whoa he would probably be
Starting for you right so it’s just like this is the accumulation of talent over several draft Cycles this is the perhaps price you pay as a Toronto Raptors for trading away as many first round picks and not doing as much with the assets that you had letting guys
Like Delano Banton walk out the door letting picks and various assets walk out the door for the likes of dadus young and yaka purle Etc not hitting on second round picks and this is where you’re at right now right where no matter how many times you go through the
Rigma rule of thinking that you’ve solved some depths issues you haven’t really solved the depths issues and yeah you can say the Raptors are super undermanned and hey look like we have sort of solved the depth issues because you know you have Grady dick and you have Emanuel quickley and you know Kelly
Lenck and Gary Trent Jr and Bruce Brown and those are five definite rotation players and you might have cracked something in jonte Porter and and and that’s something you know because he’s been great in spurts right and and and you can make a case that Jordan noara has played rotation minutes earlier in
His career for a much better team than Toronto Raptors that team did have a superstar though but still you know so you can be like okay man like how much depth do you need but I still think that Anthony black is pretty much better than you know or
Projects to be better than most of the players that I’ve just named if not all the players I’ve just named and he’s going to be their fourth guy so that’s kind of what I’m saying you know it’s a talent it’s it’s the defensive identity it’s the cohesiveness they’re the only
Team in the league that did not make a trade at the deadline or at any point during the season they have not changed this roster they believe in continuity they’ve been building this continuity since last year by the way haven’t even talked about jet Howard not even on the
Roster right now right Caleb Houston how how big is the gap right now between Caleb Houston and oai abaji as prospects be real be real with yourself you know be be real with yourself before you be real with me like how big is the gap is
It a substantial Gap would you trade you think the average general manager out there would probably trade oai abaji for jet Howard who did not play for the for for them right now sure do you think the average general manager would still probably take Anthony black over Grady
Dick sure Anthony black got a dmcd tonight I’m saying there are levels to this and I’m saying that the magic have an abundance of depth and it was humbling to see them turn it on the way that they did in the third quarter you know because initially they come out
They punch Raptors punch back but man when they when they threw that second punch it was lights out like it was game over um you felt it I think the Raptors felt it I think they knew it and you know hate to say it but this is
The end of the season for the Raptors I mean you could say it’s been over for a while sure you know but this is a lot like letting go letting go of the faint 1% chance that some miracle thing could happen the Raptors didn’t even play badly right they they shoot 47% from
From the field 41% from three largely due to Gary Trent Jr they had 16 turnovers to the Magic’s 15 so they forced a lot of turnovers magic you’re used to forcing a lot of turnovers the Raptors played a competitive game and they outrebounded them you know like this is not this is
Not a matter of you know you got thoroughly outplayed from wire to wire no they like they made it pretty competitive in fact the Toronto Raptors won two quarters they lost the second quarter and the third quarter third quarter substantially but they won two quarters it’s just that the quarter that
They lost was the quarter that the magic really turned it up and I think that that matters um the Raptors end up taking one more shot they end up taking three more threes they do end up getting to the line almost as much that’s a big gap the
Raptors do not make their free throws tonight um it’s a trend it’s it’s been a trend for a while the Raptors crash the offensive glm more they nearly virtually tie them on the assist Target of 25 versus 24 hard to do in a low-scoring game but you know getting 24 assists on
38 mfield goals is not bad at all they capitalize off the turnovers they got 37 fast break points 37 which is crazy right points in the paint like 42 versus 52 and I think that that is really it right the Raptors have no Rim pressure defense anything right now guys are just
Waltzing into the paint they’re collapsing doubles you’re way too deep you’re giving up way too much position guys get into the paint they get get too deep into paintt you send a double boom shootter open boom shootter open boom cutter open and it does not help when
You have you know a couple of Snooze fests on defense so overall tough game you know to lose maybe Silver Lining you have this team again in a couple of days um do you want to play this team again initially when I did the um prognosis
For where I think the Raptors would be interestingly enough I did feel like they would um they would end up beating the magic one game that they could split it and now I’m a little bit like confused as to whether or not that will happen um did I just lag for a
Second there I probably did largely because of all these banner ads okay here we are on tank of thaon my favorite website right now and yes I did just watch Zaki play today which was very interesting um they almost lost they almost lost Tom ISO was a hell of a coach okay
Um it was a crazy comeback like a 14 14 down and they came back okay so the Raptors are officially tied for the six spot which is interesting I believe because they split the season series with Memphis it would be a coin toss coin toss Ross part two um but the
Raptors are slumping hard they one of three team teams in the NBA alongside the Washington Wizards and the Charlotte Hornets who have gone 2 and eight over their last 10 I do not think that they’re going to beat Orlando um in the next game so you can make this like you
Know they’ve lost six straight the last time they lost six straight I believe was Tampa and the last time they were 21 games under 500 which is exactly where they are right now 21 games under 500 um I believe it was 2012 that tweet that I
You know here here are some names that were on that roster way back when you had mean mugin Allan Anderson you had James Johnson Ben uzo demard rosan and Amir Johnson holy [ __ ] off the bench you had Gary Forbes Aaron gray Solomon Alby Ed Davis lennus Caza holy [ __ ] man like
This was bad Jose did not play Jamal mcore was still playing that’s how long it’s been so turning the focus over to next season I think is probably a good thing to do right now um and there’s a lot of things that the Raptors desperately desperately need um
Paint defense would be one of them perimeter defense would be another thing a lot of toughness and maturity would be another thing I think this team could really hey thanks a lot for the Super Chat Noble Ben would Suggs be our second best player um I guess that depends on how much you
Value defense versus offense but yes you could make a very solid case to Jones sucks would be your best the second best player um it’s possible yeah because again his defensive activity he’s an event he’s an event Creator defensively like he can BAS Bally like and he’s a crazy
Rebounder and now that he can shoot and he does have a little bit of that transition playmaking stuff he’s like a souped up Lonzo ball right now right and yeah like what I’m describing is definitely a better player then Emanuel quickley it just so happens that we live in a world and we
Play in a league in which offense is valued significantly more than defense by the Casual fan and so yeah probably Manu quickly would be considered better than him um but I think that would be a misreading of it he’s younger he’s you know health health could be a big
Deterrent for me in terms of you know as a trade asset but yeah if you remember last year I was saying like you know the Raptors need to trade for jillen Suggs maybe the magic are done with him whatever clearly the magic are not idiots because they were not done with
Him and you know maybe may I don’t know man felt like the way things are going last year for J sugs holy [ __ ] like it was bad um yeah um in terms of this draft the Raptors are in a really really interesting place right um Grim Reaper saying enough of these
Project players like oai no disrespect to him there’s a reason he was trade bait um yeah because if he was panning out super well you wouldn’t be able to get him Like feel like there’s a broader discussion to be had and then there’s like like a like a macro discussion to be had and then there’s sort of like a micro discussion to be had where we dissect like individual players and Prospects and stuff but I think you know
I need to go with the I need to go with the with the big big topic you know I need to go with the holistic overview of you know how how our brains process you know upside downside good and bad um I use sports betting as an example um
Let me know if you’re familiar with the term Eevee uh not electronic vehicle expected value it’s a finance term and expected value um of most bets that you place through a sports book is a loss it’s a negative value people keep placing bets though they keep betting
And they think that they’re you know very good at it um listened to somebody you know a couple days ago say that tennis is a really easy sport to bet on because you know they they were winning for a week um we don’t do well when things are
Going badly to Envision when they’ll stop going badly we have a recency bias that is very prevalent very strong um whereby a string of losses can feel like you may never win again a string of wins can get people very jumpy and ansy to think that the team is much better than
They really think it is and so much of what I want to do and what I try to do with my life is to try to stay as balanced as humanly possible and as aware as I can of my own biases and and trying to understand that yes even in
The midst of you know maybe a historically poor shooter shooting 45% from three that at some point the law of averages do tend to balance out um you just need to give it enough run for it to happen right um that’s the thing though the Raptors have gone through a
Slew of self-inflicted wounds that have been created by a management team that seemed to be dysfunctional in their approach to evaluating future and past and not blurring timelines you know like you take a look at what the Raptors did to get to the point of a championship and I don’t think enough
Credit was given to luck I think they really thought whoa we really [ __ ] did this we’re great we’re so great because we did this and it’s like yeah yeah you’re great you did a great job but don’t fly Too Close icus you know don’t don’t be don’t don’t
Get too don’t get too cocky because the Raptors really were betters weren’t they they kept swinging hits on six leg parlays and thinking they had some golden system there’s a reason second round picks or second round picks there’s a reason why historically the numbers on players picked after pick 35
Are so historically poor there’s a reason why you should never walk into a draft thinking we’re going to get a rotation piece at 36 you probably not and it almost never works out that way what you have every single time you draft is a chance you can improve those
Chances but it’s always still a chance even when you pick first overall you have a chance you have a chance to draft a future franchise player a franchise savior an all-nba guy you have a chance chance a minuscule one of that to draft the greatest player of all time those
Chances diminish with every single pick you go down right think a lot of people are really bad at math and I’m not saying this to be rude I’m just saying this to say this think a lot of people are really bad at math I had someone try
To logically explain to me the other day because seventh pick had historically moved up so many times to the fourth third second first that the rap should be better off sitting seventh and sixth this is like what the hell are we talking about here no um you do not have the mightest touch
Not everything you’re going to touch is going to turn to gold and I think the Raptors went through this last year we we heard a lot of Messiah J and Bobby Webster saying maybe it’s me maybe we’re wrong that’s what we thought there’s a lot less huus a lot less arrogance and a
Lot more humility to the fact that no you don’t have all the answers no you’re not Gods no you know Pascal SE yakum doesn’t just miraculously turn into kawh Leonard because you think he’s going to turn into Kawhi Leonard no OG and anobi will not turn into Kawhi Leonard either
And ultimately you’re GNA have to accept that maybe Scotty Barnes won’t either at some point you’re going to have to just take better chances right you have to take better chances you can’t think that every chance you take is going to hit and the truth is that right now if I told you
That Scotty Barnes going to be one of the 10 best players of all time I would be lying because I don’t know that and neither do they and neither do you I think that he has a chance to be one of the top 25 players of all time it’s a
Small chance and I hope that he sees that and I hope that he will work for it because I trust that he will but all it is right now is a chance it’s a chance but it’s not a this is not a perfect you know slam dunk player like someone said
To me the other day like he’s like LeBron whoa chill bro watch LeBron play basketball at the age of 20 and tell me he’s not further ahead on Scotty on almost every single thing defensively offensively and everything at age 20 he was two years ahead of being two years
Ahead the Gap is massive and it’s not like LeBron didn’t work hard to get to where he is I think you might have to curb your expectations a little bit on greatest player of all time stuff but I do believe that Scotty Barnes has his
Own path to take it might be a little bit more yic Giannis than it is LeBron whereby he builds on certain things throughout the years and he consistently gets better at a different at a different rate than LeBron ever did because LeBron was so Advanced as a young
Player but I take a look at that I’m like okay Grady that’s a shot Grady’s a shot Grady’s a shot at a starter you know like really he’s a he’s a shot at like a two three time Allstar he’s also a shot at a guy who might amount to
Maybe like a 15 per per game guy there is a great deal of variance this is not like drafting Anthony Davis or Anthony Edwards there’s no like guaranteed Pathway to superstardom for for Grady dick the best decision and I think the Raptors made this past offseason was not shock shock
Shock it was not signing um Fred van Le that was probably the best decision they made all offseason it’s it’s something they’ve gotten consistently killed for in the media the second best decision they made believe it or not I don’t think their second best decision was jayen Jaylen McDaniels or you know
Um sorry I’m losing my voice a little bit here it was not jayen McDaniels and it certainly was not Dennis Schroeder um and it was not extending a purle I believe it was um um I can address this I guess um sorry I’ve lost my train of thought
And now I’m thinking about bronie James what not sure if you talked about this and recognized these are wild rumors but do you have any thoughts on bronie James draft pick link to the Raptors yeah I have I have thoughts I don’t think the Raptors going to draft bronny
James um he is not NBA player right now and that’s that’s saying a lot for this draft I know his dad is putting a lot of pressure on NBA teams to want to draft him or you know for for him to go get to
The NBA so that he can play with him or whatever but he is not an NBA player right now there are a 100 college players right now who are substantially better than him there might be four players on his own team that are better than him his team is not very good USC
Is not very good watch them um he struggles to shoot he struggles to finish he’s not as big as he’s advertised they say he’s 6’4 I bet dollars Donuts he’s under 6’2 substantially under 6’2 he might be 6’1 um his best bet would be to be a three-year college guy to work through
The G league and maybe go over to Europe if something really really great breaks for him he might be able to become Davon Mitchell but like a worse version of that I know I’m describing a lottery pick But please understand how that guy careers turned out to date um by all
Counts a really great kid um I know that a lot of recruiting went into him when he was like 12 13 years old and allegedly like Duke and North Carolina and places like that had Kentucky had already off was not it definitely wasn’t Kentucky but I think it was Duke had
Offered him you know a scholarship before he was 13 years old so you know I get it Bloodlines it’s very interesting yes I myself used to play NBA 2K and I would have Vince Carter Jor show up in like the I don’t know the 2038 draft
He’s not even a real person I just had him show up and then he would look exactly like Vince and then I get to live out the legacy of the lineage of him being drafted to the Raptors those were my dreams in 2015 Vince Carter Jr coming to the Toronto Raptors in 2036
But that’s you know just it’s fanfiction right he’s not a very good player very rarely you know do the sons of really great players ever make great players themselves very rarely does that does that ever happen if you’re looking at diaper Dand who’ really made it Steph
His dad was a role player right um D Curry like you know he was a role player um Jaylen Brunson his dad was a role player Cole Anthony his dad was a role player um really can you think of any player who was a star player whose child is a star
Player just doesn’t happen Jordan’s Jordan’s son is not very good um yeah I’m thinking about it right now who who is the star player who had a son who was a star player I’m sure there is one but I’m just not thinking about it sabonis is a great yeah there we go
Yeah that’s exactly it my favorite player boom um yeah you’re right you’re right that that that’s exactly it um PA’s son actually weirdly enough uh um he might be really good too I I don’t know if he will you know make it an NBA or whatever but he’s good I
Watched him play um when he was like 14 and he’s he’s he’s big he’s more athletic than his dad ever was really interesting um Grim Reaper saying if everything pans out for wemi he will make lebronto 2.0 if we don’t get it together it will
Never it will never ever be um that way because ultimately he plays in the west um Cameron Boozer is actually really good um you’re right Carlos boozer’s sons are really good that is an example of a guy who was star adjacent he’s not a superstar but like he was a good
Player um probably worth mentioning that Carl Malone’s daughter is also very good at basketball but she’s different um Carmelo’s son might be good sure yeah anyways so it don’t mean that the Tonto Raptors need to take better risks and they need to do a little bit closer to what you know you
Know somebody who who has acknowledged that these are all chances no matter how smarty is is Sam pry you know Sam pry would have every right to walk around into every single room and think he’s literally God he not only poached probably the smartest young coach in the
NBA right he not only fleeced the clippers for a player that wanted to leave got a top three MVP candidate and Shay GIS Alexander in his prime surrounded him with nothing but incredible young players he’s had a huge steal with Jaylen Williams huge like I just watched that dude play the other
Day and I’m just like oh my God this guy could have his own team Jaylen Williams you know Chad hren like they’re a young team I mean he hits huge on case Wallace um this is a guy who could walk around every single room and think he’s
Literally God and he can do no wrong and even he has this this patience do you see what I mean the Raptors made a play for yaka Perle trading multiple picks for yaka purle when they were barely 500 because they wanted to give the core a chance they
Were substantially below 500 by the way that same team that we’re talking about the OKC Thunder they are number one in the west and they would not make that trade because they had the discipline to know that it can all fall apart if you if you do stupid things
Like trading three first round picks or two first round picks for yaku purle it could fall apart and that’s why they didn’t and and you know this sort of like discipline makes me think that Danny uh you know sorry the Sam prey might be like he might be trending in
The 180 190 you know IQ points range because of how he thinks about problem solving problem solving is something that the Raptors need to think about long and hard Raptors may not be as small a market team as OKC their ownership group may not be as cheap as
OKC but they have very similar problems the similar problems is similar problem is they’re not a free agent destination Tron raptor is not a free agent destination and as much as you know I I would love to say that they have done you know a reasonable job with Grady and
And and Scotty and you cannot blame them entirely for what’s happened with Koko because that was a good idea um and I’m really really happy they made the moves with you know the Knicks and um yeah there’s a part of me that kind of wishes that the Raptors had made a
Move for Jaylen Johnson or something you know more sub stantial um in the offseason from the Atlanta Hawks but nevertheless we we’ll never know if that trade was on the table or whatever um I do think that the Raptors need to give themselves more chances and what’s interesting is right now they’re giving
Themselves more chances they’re actually finally acknowledging that they’re not the gods of the draft which is great right you got to understand that there are now multiple shots you can you can be wrong you just can’t be wrong three times right and when you think about the
Value you have to think about this like sports betting you do you really have to every single draft pick is a bet every one of them and it can go one of two ways and some bets are sure and some bets you know but it’s still a
Bet you have to think of it like a bet here’s the best way to look at a first overall pick it’s a 50/50 proposition you know either way when you look at when you look at the draft but when you historically look at the draft and you can always adjust for individual
Drafts and certainly we will for this one but historically there’s one Allstar in those first seven eight picks find that one player some years there’s two some years there’s three but there’s one you just got to you just got to open the Kinder egg with the allstar and side and
You got to you got to do everything you can to Edge The Edge the odds in your favor we are talking Arbitrage you know trading to some extent like we’re talking really just researching the [ __ ] out of it getting any Edge possible to make it a more informed bet but it will
Never not be a bet sambe was a hell of a player Greg Oden was a hell of a player those guys were flops you know darkom milit people troll it now oh my God who had even played oh my God watch him play watch him play people talk about Andre
Barani being so terrible watch him play he would go number one overall so many times over and over you cannot tell me it was a wrong pick and the person who made it was stupid even the mar fultz you know pick like it looks stupid now yeah it looks really dumb now picking
Mark fultz over Jason Tatum there was no guarantee that Jason Tatum was going to turn into this there was no guarantee Marquel folz was not going to turn into into what he was going to turn into people were talking about him like he was an ex Derrick Rose people were
Talking about Jason Tatum like he might be a role player so yeah it’s one thing to then later on say like well you know they should have known but you don’t know you don’t know what you do know is that rationally speaking you got to get yourself you got to get yourself some
Freaking money so you can make these bets you got to get to a point where you can get two three cracks at it in every single draft cycle you cannot go through periods where you get zero cracks at it is what I’m saying and the Raptors have
Had zero cracks at it for a few years because they had this hubris that they knew exactly what these guys were going to become and then when all of them didn’t become that now you end up in the situation you’re in Delano Banton David Johnson Jaylen Harris Malachi Flynn precious
Auua that’s five that’s five young players with substantial theoretical upside and all you needed was one of them to turn into like a de facto starter adding Christian Koko to that as well all you needed was one one of those guys to turn into a Clint
Capella or a damont sabonis or you know a Jeremy Grant level guy one guy and they all failed none of them worked out you can make a case that precious is working out somewhat now in New York but man look at how look at how many minutes
He’s playing to get his 13 12 points whatever it hasn’t worked out for any of these guys so I think this draft will be about opportunities the Raptors know ahead of time right now they will not be caught with their pants down they know where they’re drafting to some extent they
Know where they’re drafting they know the range they’ve known for a while what range they be drafting in they’re going to be drafting two times between picks 15 and 32 or 15 and 33 if San Antonio somehow manages to catch you know Detroit which could happen that is 18
Slots that’s a great place guys drop all the time in a draft this wild do not be surprised if a lottery player that you typically associate with being a lottery player is sitting there at 15 16 17 maybe but please understand all lottery players are not
The same in this draft I’m looking at Lottery players who look like midir rounders and midir rounders who look like mid first rounders the parody in the draft is nuts let’s take a quick look at the NBA draft room before we end this live off okay so this is mba.com Bleacher
Report latest two round mock draft okay let’s get to this hey Brian man what’s going on you should call in do you have time call in man that’ll be an entertaining conversation we talk about all the things is Scotty yeah we miss him too but you know
What like I I said it I said it to I said it to cat as well dude like it’s going to be it’s a blessing in disgu he needed a break he needed some time you know and he’ll be back like he’ll be back better than ever as you’re saying
And um he’s learning now how to lead with his voice he’s learning you know how to um you know lead in different ways like organizing the dinner for the team and all that stuff I’m seeing like positive engagement seeing a grown relationship with him and IQ yeah man
Like the summer is going to be great for the Raptors I have no doubt that the Raptors going to be really really good next year I just I think I need fans to understand why this [ __ ] went so wrong and why it’s going to go right the next
Time around because yeah you just uh you can’t mess up another year is what I’m saying okay so the draft is going to go as follows Alexander SAR back-to-back French players going top draft this is the French Revolution in the NBA I don’t necessarily see it um I don’t see how
He’s gonna hey what’s going on Brian what’s going on man hello what up my boy what’s going on man how you doing why you shaving your face bro what you don’t like it I I look 15 don’t I hold on I got Echo I’m gonna put on my headphones okay
I’m getting trolled hard for shaving come on man what up boy what’s going on how’s handle life doing man everything’s going good yes sir how you I’m good man I’m good I’m recovering from Penance exhaustion I feel good about it everything went super smooth as we talk
Boat um how’s Scotty doing he’s good yeah yeah man I saw his hand a [ __ ] like the swelling it was crazy yeah can can he work on his other hand like what what’s what’s his like is he able to work right now basically with
His hand in the cast The Way It Is yep that’s what I thought um what’s next for him um we’ve talked a lot about 15% 20% whatever whatever you’re saying he’s going to be he’s he’s going to come come back crazy what are you seeing um in him this
Off season because like hey like we talked about it right we talked about Team USA select team the exhaustion him making Allstar now he’s got this 20 games to just get his legs back you know what I mean how does this help him get into the offseason like not dead tired because
He’s been dead tired going into every offseason they’ve had long Seasons they’ve had he’s played Crazy minutes he led the team in minutes before he got injured so Rel oh I guess last year he was pretty good I think only his first year was a tough off season because he was
Dealing with the ankle but um I think this just gets the offseason started uh early um and he’ll be you know mentally he’s like watching the game he’s learning a lot um and I think he was I think he was um like right before the injury like that game I
Think you said it too like that he was he was starting he was looking like a superstar and I think that he’s um yeah you didn’t know I listen to everything you say bro okay but uh no I think that I think that he’s I think it’s all about him putting
All the pieces together I think early on you saw him shooting the ball well I think uh some parts of the Season you saw him Distributing well I think and then right before the injury he started to really get to the line and figure out how to you know dictate the game and
He’s he’s just learning so I think the next step is just to put all of that stuff consist consistently together um for the duration of the season um I think it’s definitely going to be a tall task just because he gives so much energy on to each game as far as you know
Covering making rotation on defense talking so much of different things like that so we talked a lot about handles um during the during the thing I I saw you post about uh Johnny and like uh Kobe white and I was like honestly I didn’t buy the
Kobe Kobe white hype and then I watched him play I was like yo this guy looks like next level [ __ ] like this is incredible like the work that he put in last off season is there anything you could take from that like in terms of like a Learning lesson just in terms of
How much can be done to improve a player’s pick and ball handling and everything no totally different players no it’s it’s um I mean the handless part is what we do it’s easiest the easiest part of making someone good at basketball I think last summer the focus was on
Shooting because it don’t matter how much good how good your handles are if you if people are playing you 15 feet away that’s so so I mean he’ll be like Scotty’s left hand is improved so much like his and when you look at the analytics on how much he was
Going left toward you know the middle to before he got hurt it just improved so much and it really opened up the floor for him so his handles would be fine I’m not really worried about that um I think sometimes he gets tired and I mean we
Mentioned before like he starts to stand upright a little bit but um physically like as far as his skill set it’s going to be fine and I think it is fine I think it’s just more so about finding that consistency in the game and how to
Manipulate the game more um you know and that’s what superstars do they manipulate the game to help their team win and put their their teammates in the best position so I was I I was actually uh some curious about this because two things number one I think
The first part of the season and the second part of the Season analytically were completely different first part of the Season he’s like top 10 player in the NBA second part of the Season which granted he’s not going to get get a chance to finish but it’s around the
Seak trade around the OG trade probably closer to a fringe allar that’s a big that’s a big drop off my thought is three things could be any of these things it could be all these things number one increased defensive load number two for a player like Scotty familiarity with his
Teammates is so important so having him familiar with OG and Pascal Fred you know Dennis is kind of like Fred Jason he operates in similar places Gary that familiarity and then suddenly you’re disrupting the familiarity every time you make this trade you’re introducing new players new players he has to learn
It again again and again that’ll diminish it so thought defensive load that the third thing I thought was size does he need to because in the beginning of the Season you remember he was he was starting the two OG starts to the three and the Raptors are huge and I thought
That was really to his favor and to his benefit and then later towards the season you get rid of OG get rid of Pascal you replace him with smaller players now he’s the big and I feel like his advantages kind of went away as much as I would love to see him have
Advantages against like a power forward power forward is not really a position in the NBA most power forwards are just big small forwards right now like herb Jones like so I’m thinking if I’m phing the Houston Rockets do I want Scotty’s primary matchup to be Jaylen green or
Jabari Smith I prefer Jaylen green so how important is it for him to play guard next year just curious I I mean just to answer the first part of your your question I I think that the the difference is he just learning he’s first on everybody Scouting Report he’s seeing different
Coverages um so he’s learning that you know what I mean so that’s why you see the like that’s why you see the difference in in in his play like before he might have been second third honest um on everybody SC report and the the reason that I mean since he played so
Well at the beginning of the Season you know teams started to adjust I mean so I think those uh that contributed to it I think definitely the defensive lad um and uh I mean I don’t know how much I I I could agree with you too about the
The yeah his teammates okay but I don’t know how much I don’t I don’t think I think Scotty is the type of player that it don’t matter who you put around him he’s going to be able to find a mismatch because playing against Jabari par Jabari and Jaylen green they’re both
Mismatches it’s just he’s gonna attack them in different ways you I mean so it’s it’s always going to be a mismatch but it may look like if if you put Jaylen green on them the mismatch may end up with 28 points seven rebounds and seven assists if you put Jabari on them
It’s going to end up it may end up with more assists it may end up with 20 more rebounds because again when you when you his his rebounding fluctuates because if he’s guarding freaking point guards and Steph Curry and he’s further away from the basket so that helps you
On the defensive side but it hurts your rebounding and it hurts your ability to get out on the Breck you know what I mean so really he’s a really complicated Defender because on the one hand I think he’s like really really good at certain
Things but I also think he has a lot of weaknesses like I don’t know if you looked at The Rim defense analytics he literally is the worst Rim Defender among players whove guarded 250 possessions at The Rim um like he’s there with yic and domas like those are the guys so it’s
Like that to me it’s like okay I think he’s a guard Wing I don’t think he’s a big and I don’t really want to see him playing Center and power forward because I think that size is back in the NBA they’re teams like look at OKC look at
You know San Antonio look at like the the future of the league is huge look at look at the team we just played tonight like you got 610 shooting guard you got six 611 power forward you got a six like and they got Anthony Black coming up at
67 point guard like like I don’t think I don’t think it’s sustainable long term unless you’re talking about johnar like you know that level of talent that you want to be small in the NBA I think you want to be big so that’s just my
Thought but I don’t but but what kind of what I mean the only four that you would really put next to him that would fit is someone like you know exactly our favorite person you know what I mean so like that’s the only type of four that
Would fit around them but I mean like even if you put like Jonathan Isaac around him if Jonathan Isaac was super healthy way no way defensively yeah but off it’s not an upgrade it’s going to destroy your spacing which is going to put you right back in the same spot
Where you were just at while you traded everybody away Jonathan Isaac hit two threes tonight and I just want to be clear about this Grady dick and uh Grady dick and oai abaji hit zero my point is like if the guy can shoot he can shoot like I think yeah you’re right you’re
Right but I think defense and offense are so related and like to me a Livewire like vertical threat like Jonathan Isaac in theory could also work what and I’m saying Jonathan Isaac to say I could also mean like a Nick Claxton right like I think Scotty’s smart enough to figure
It out with guys who can finish in spots because look at the end of the day when he’s stronger and he’s getting stronger like guys keep getting stronger stronger he is getting skilled and stronger it’s automatic double every time if you don’t double he’s going to score like every
Great player cannot be guarded oneon-one Kawai cannot be guarded one-on-one KD can’t be guarded one-on one so once he gets to that level his passing skills are going to mean he just needs finishers around him like really good finishers so like you know joic makes it work with Aaron Gordon and Jamal Murray
You know what I mean I really I like some of the young pieces that are around him I’m really really starting to get very high on guys like Grady and and jonte just because their basketball IQ is so it’s so great uh to watch young players on this team that are smart and
I think I’m liking this Vibe between him and IQ on the bench I’m seeing a lot more talking between those two so I like that too um yeah anyways thanks for thanks for dropping by I appreciate it this um this RJ you know RJ’s bro Thing Really
Got Me it Tri me up hard who RJ’s bro Nathan he passed away oh for real I didn’t know that yeah man he’s 19 damn yeah passed away two days ago and um he was home for a bit but yeah um so the team is just to I don’t know like that’s that’s
Tough like nobody like I was I was saying at the beginning of this live like we all expect to lose our parents I don’t think any one of us expect to lose a child so it’s just like my heart really um it makes you appreciate life
Like so much you know yeah man that’s sad bro prayers goes out to the family yeah for sure anyway Brian thanks a lot for thanks a lot for dropping by I’ll catch you later man love the banter my boy love the banter but yo you got you
Gotta give some love to the shave you know it’s it’s not every single day that a guy can can be 36 and look 15 it’s it’s impressive it doesn’t fit you doing live at 1:00 a.m though cuz I’m up past my bedtime yeah okay I got it
Peace all right um thanks a lot for me MAAC always showing up Um positivity positivity you know um it’s how you show up in this world I guess that’s something that I’ve learned a lot this year is how you show up it’s um how you show up every single day for the people around you I do mean it when
I say that Nathan you know uh passing away this this is like um it can be a really rude awakening for for people who walk through life every single day um just kind of taking it all for granted and assuming that it’s just going to go on forever and ever it does
Not it never goes on forever for anybody myself included and I have to really wake up to you know the fact that I’m 36 years old and there’s like a mortality kicking in right now where I’m like okay I’ll tell you a few things um that I have learned
About life and health that that may be able to help you as well in your life number one if you do not drink enough water and you do not have a good sleep cycle and you are someone who is depressed your brain is suffering immensely for it I promise you that you
Are not doing everything that you can I’ve been sleeping a lot lately a lot I’ve been trying to at least our brains endure so much at a young age I don’t know if you guys remember but I had the entire conversation with Katherine Macintosh who was the neuroscientist and the
Reason I was able to even hold my own in that conversation is because I have done a substantial amount of research into how brains operate and how brains are impacted at a young age and how brains shape and form and fact that you know you’re not stuck with the brain that you
Have and you can change your brain and you can positively wire things but I I I look around at the world and I’m seeing a lot of people doing a lot of things that are very very bad for their brains and I don’t mean bad for your
Consumption of content or you know just bad for your ideas no I means physically bad for your brain overc consumption of coffee yeah I bet you didn’t hear think think I was going to say that but an overc consumption of coffee can be really really detrimental to your brain
If you have a set of AR lifestyle in which basically you do not move around a lot you need to get moving because blood flow is very important for the brain oxygen is very important for the brain um a lack of mold asbest environmental contaminants very important for the
Brain um eating clean like eating healthy but eating clean you know no o no orange juice no Frosted Flakes none of this [ __ ] cut sugar out it’s all inflammatory um you won’t realize this but especially if you are a man out there your um having depression at a young age can substantially increase
Your risk of dementia and early onset Alzheimer’s I also tell you that um if you suffer traumatic head injuries as a young child if you like me got stitches nine eight times your brain may have physically changed due to the fact that your skull was still
Developing at the time and you took such such blows to the head if you played football footb if you played soccer don’t don’t don’t bump your head into things like don’t it’s just your head needs to be protected you know um people have had car crashes where they hit
Their head you know very very hard and they have felt like a mood shift for years the truth is that most of us when we go to a psychologist or we go to our friends or we we say I’m feeling bummed I’m feeling this way or that way we
Don’t usually get feedback like hey let me just scan your brain and just check if everything’s okay most people just assume that you’re personally [ __ ] up that’s just not the way it usually works right that’s just not the reality the situation and the truth is that a lot of
Us are reacting to things on a day-to-day basis and we wish we didn’t react with anger in that situation but we’re angry we wish we didn’t react with impulsivity you know impulse control is a sign of a brain that is improperly structured a lack of impulse control so
You want to turn off your phone but you can’t you know it is the right thing to do in the morning to meditate to wake up to eat healthy Etc I’ll say one more thing environmental factors where you are and who you’re with matters a
Lot there are people that I’ve met in my life that have seriously uplifted me in a very very positive way not over even long durations just briefly met those people Brian’s a really good example of somebody where every single conversation is very uplifting and I usually walk
Away from it feeling like I learned something new um and I’m infused with positivity and that’s a really big gift that he has and he and he obviously has shared that with Scotty and a lot of the kids that he works with and I’m very thankful for that my teacher that I
Talked about um Miss Brown the my writer craft teacher she was like that too you know a lot of infusion of positivity this is very good um but there are people out out there who are not having this impact on our lives they’re having quite opposite impact on our lives
Whereby basically they are sucking the joy out of everything in life you know we might make them dinner or we may you know offer to take them on a vacation or we might get a new TV and be like oh great isn’t this great and then you know
They kind of just [ __ ] all over it and then we might do something for ourselves that is very good for ourselves you know maybe we do something to fix our money situation or maybe we start going to the gym a little bit better we start eating
A little bit better and and and you’re expecting them to be really happy for you you’re expecting them to be really supportive and they’re not they’re not supportive they’re suspicious they’re suspicious and they’re jealous you know you tell them you bought a house and somehow all they
Can think about is how come this [ __ ] bought a house before me need to get away from those people really fast I got to tell you just because they’re your family just because they’re your best friends or childhood friends does not mean that they are your supporters very few people in this world
Will support you unconditionally very few if any but I think that it is important to end this live to tell you that it is precisely in those moments that you do not feel supported that you do not feel trusted that you remember to trust yourself and to support yourself support your mental
Health support your peace support love not hate and observe observe your surroundings I’ll give you a hack that has helped me a tremendous amount and it might help you as well when you have a negative thought about yourself or about something you know maybe you think someone hates you
Maybe you think something is really bad or maybe you think you’re really bad at something or you [ __ ] up uh in a really meaningful way try saying the opposite and ask yourself if that could be true you know so for instance you’re sitting there you’re try write a script
Out and um I don’t know thought comes into your head because again if you’re dealing with a brain like my brain which has been through a lot you might have a bit of a defective streak so you got you got you got the script going and it’s not going well and you
Say I always or like I suck at writing you know I suck at writing or I’m never going to get this or this too hard or something like that try to try to say the opposite and ask yourself if it could be true you know will I get this
Are there times where I have been good at writing of course of course there are are there times where I thought I would not get over something but I did get over that thing yes try to be relentlessly I don’t mean delusionally positive I don’t mean like Icarus you
Know levels of positivity and I don’t mean toxic positivity I mean just be supportive of yourself treat yourself as you wish a best friend would be the best friend that you wish you had is basically my uh advice to you and surround yourself with people who and and put yourself in environments that
Generally uplift you um yeah so on that note I end this live draft coverage will start very very soon um Let me show y’all something that I was working on today that I’m a little bit proud of actually I want say a little bit proud of I’m actually I’m I’m very proud of
It shoot um I I will actually you know what I owe y’all the the mock draft I’m gonna do that I teased it and then Brian called in so I I will do that give me one sec here let me show you what I did here okay
So um for years now um Penance Film Festival that I run has been we’ve been having a lot of photos right photographers take photos etc etc and you know it’s such a funny thing because all these photos are mismatched like they don’t match the the cameras are not the same and
Ultimately um they all looked very different so I went through all the photo photos and I was like I need this page where all the filmmakers are going to be CU our submissions open today as you can see opening day so our submissions for next year open today I
Was like yo we need these photos to represent our Festival in a better way because I got to tell you they were not doing that so I edited all the photos to be better and consistent and relevant you know what I mean I mean these are all some pretty recognizable
People if you’re really really into the scene but yeah like different you know what I mean like like you wanted every photo to be like a high quality photo and so it went through every single photo and I scrutinized it I was like does this need to be here declutter it
If it doesn’t need if it’s not a good photo if it’s a blurry photo or a dark photo it doesn’t need to be here let me just you know and and let’s present the festival as like a happy place where people go and actually have fun let’s not have these stupid photos where
People are just you know standing around oh as I say that there’s a photo of someone standing around but like you know what I mean like like when you’re going through photos like we communicate so much and it was just like interesting you know to realize um how much I didn’t
Care about this like a few a few months ago like these photos that we had were so bad I got got to tell you like they were so bad they were dark they were blurry but I mean they they’re showing the right stuff like they were showing a
Guy on the red carpet but it wasn’t like a great photo and now all these photos are like professional photos and all it took was me going in and editing them oops there’s a double so yeah uh let me see if there’s still an example of a bad photo I mean this is
Not a bad photo no I don’t think there are any bad photos anymore hey it’s me six years ago okay anyways so hopefully that means more submissions and it also means hopefully that people will you know have a different impression of the the festival when they
Show up to it you know anyway move that get back to the mock draft video file nope share screen here we go here we go here we go okay buzzing through this alexar I think he would probably go seventh eth ninth in last year’s draft maybe high as six uh Zachary
R uh you know I think he’s in that balal kabali you know sort of conversation but I think I would prefer Bal over him so maybe he would go top 10 in last year’s draft Reed Shepard he would probably be like a mid first rounder right now he’s
Third according to the ringer he’s first he would be a mid first rounder in next year’s draft in my opinion Ron Holland another you know mid to Mid First rounder Cody Williams would probably be a mid first rounder late Lottery midir rounder Rob Dillingham would be a mid-ir rounder
Uh Nia toic would be a mid first rounder are you seeing a trend Matas would be a mid first rounder K filipowski would probably be an end of first rounder uh Donovan kingan would be I think an end of like 20s 20 to 22 um where would be 25 to 30ish range
Devin Carter 25 to 30 jacobe Walter 22 to 22 to 26 you know really good draft Isaiah Collier might be you know 14- 24 in a really good draft um Dalton okay like 15 to no 16 to 24 Stefan CLE same thing Tyler Smith maybe early second round teren Shannon Jared
McCain Johnny I don’t know enough about some of these guys but I’m seeing like an abundance of guys who would be 22nd to 24th picks in most drafts so what I’m saying is yeah the draft is really [ __ ] weak but by the time you get to about 25 it catches up
Which means that the Toronto Raptors will get a chance at I don’t know 29 30 31 whatever I think you know these these guys have a shot to be what a 30th pick usually is which is a fringe rotation player 5050 you know what I mean like
There’s a chance all these guys have a chance right Zach Edy like holy [ __ ] Pro comparison yonis found chus I think not I mean his fre throw percentage is encouraging but like how are you getting yonas Val chunis dude and Jonas was a way better athlete than him
Um Ryan Dunn like again like the Raptor is gonna have to pray that somebody else messes up for sure yeah but I think at some point you’re going to realize that there’s actual value somewhere in the middle of this draft and I think for the Raptors you
Just have a couple of shots at it you know now in terms of the value as I mentioned earlier um of this pick that you want so desperately for the Raptors to keep which is number seven yeah this is the immediacy you know the the
Impulse of like I want it now now I want it now yo compare pick number six this year to pick 13 to 16 next year it’s indistinguishable so really it doesn’t matter which one you give up it would obviously suck much much more to give up pick seven next year that would be
Horrible in a weird way having this pick this year puts you further away from having the same pick the next year if that makes sense logically that just makes a lot of CH a lot of sense in my brain so I think that the Toronto Raptors
Honestly like I don’t care which way it goes at this point lose the pick keep the pick doesn’t matter just use it wisely on something that you need is it GNA be Robb Dillingham I don’t know I don’t know but what I mentioned to Brian is is seriously my thoughts my thoughts on
This are I don’t want to be a small team I just don’t I don’t want this team to be consistently smaller than the teams they’re going to be playing up against even if I think that there are quite a few teams in the league you know that
That will be of that mold I just think that the creme de La Creme that you’re going to be facing the OKC Thunder Etc like Chad is going to be he’s not going to be a center Long Term he’s going to be a power forward and they’re going to
Put a brutish center next to him who can shoot threes at some point or they’re going to put another version of him next to him at some point because they have picks in this draft and they’re very good at drafting as well so it’ll be very interesting to see
What the Raptors do with this pick I personally let’s let’s let’s look at some players that I actually would like to see on the Raptors and I think that could be the end of this live um I really wouldn’t mind read Shephard the reason I say this um I fully
Acknowledge his his his weaknesses I fully do but if he somehow Falls to six I see a lot of Fred bamble in him um but like better shooting better defensive younger version of Fred like he would be awesome I know that I just said I don’t
Want us to be small but he’s like a real point guard um and I understand the ceiling argument Etc someone else has a bigger vert and this and that I don’t really care this dude knows how to play basketball he’s a very very good basketball player um so like yeah I
Think I think he’s interesting um Rea is a very intriguing Raptors z type Prospect uh with all the talk about point of attack defense Etc I think this would be pretty much spell the end of the ochai abaji Jordan noara SL Jaylen McDaniel stuff you can’t have this guy and those
Guys in the same you know on the same team but this is interesting you know um in terms of prototypical top pick type stuff he has a lot of it alexar same thing right like you are a team that is terrible at protecting the rim and if he
Is what people think he is you know which is you know they if he really loves basketball if he’s really as springy and as dynamic as as you know if his measurements are what they say they are then yeah he’s got something really substantial here which is not James
Wisan level you know he has a better feel for the game in my opinion than James wisman and he’s flashed like three-point range and you know I think with an elite defensive um big like this you make up for so many issues across the roster
Um so yeah so I think I think those three guys right at the top of the draft um are very interesting Ron Holland I’m not as interested to be honest Cody Williams I like it you know um it’s it’s an interesting player at six I think you
Know if he falls to six some people have mocked him as high as one um but if he falls to six I could see them taking him uh Rob Dillingham is confusing to me and I understand all the appeal and you know he’s a Kentucky guard and is he the next
Dearon Fox and to me this creates a bit of a weird fit with manual quickly and you do not want to have two of your top four assets long term and I mean a sixth overall pick will be a substantial asset for this team regardless of how weak
This draft is you do not want two of your top six you know assets long term the top four assets long term that cannot really play together and I’m not seeing a ton of ability for Rob Dillingham to guard shooting guards in the NBA he’s very slight a build he does
Not have super long arms he is very bursty very interesting as a finisher driver Creator Etc and a shooter um as a prospect he’s obviously a much better Prospect um at at the same age as Emanuel quickley but if his upside is ultimately going to be Emanuel quickle
Plus then you know that to me is like redundancy across the roster which may get in the way of both players so I’m not really seeing like this most seamless you know fit uh nicoa topic to me this is probably like the guy I’m rooting for and that probably surprises
Nobody I am Serbian I can be objective about this but he has like this incredible Pace that he plays with I’m not saying he’s goingon to be a star I’m not gonna be saying he’s a superstar or anything like that but I’d be very very very surprised if a player of his
Intelligence level and feel uh does not find a way to be like a very successful contributor sooner rather than later for the in in the NBA and at the sixth overall pick in this draft if I’m picking between him and Rob Dillingham I have to say I give the edge to him
Partially because of size um playmaking and just his overall fit with what the Raptors want to do and again I talk about size this is a 6 foot6 real substantial point guard at 6 foot6 you know you might think he has athleticism issues you I think he struggles with the
Exact same stuff that most people struggle with you know that come from Europe which is a size speed whatever but like he is he attacks the rim man he reads the pick and roll like I think this is an example of a player who could
Be better in the NBA than he’s been in Europe and he’s been [ __ ] amazing in Europe so again physically I think he has some Dynamic sorry not Dynamic some peculiar physical traits that might make him a little bit less appealing to certain people he has sort of stubby
Legs he has kind of a big head he doesn’t really look like an NBA player he looks like a Euro league player if that makes sense he doesn’t have like that aesthetic you know uh game but if I pulled up like 20 minutes of highlights You’ be mesmorized at just how this guy
Gets around things he sees the game at a very advanced level for his age and I think with NBA strength and training and whatever and the way that defenses can’t really tou you anymore dude like we we really are talking about like I think the Goran Dage you
Know comparison is very fair but he’s gotten there so much earlier than Goran did so I think he could be really interesting and Matas I think could also be really interesting I don’t buy the six foot eight he looks bigger to me um but again like you know it says Pro
Comparison he turku could he be like a France Vagner type right and not trying to compare European white guys to European White guys but like so yeah like is there the appeal to you know keep a draft pick in the six range and could you potentially find you know something very very substantial
With that sixth overall pick sure absolutely you could you know but you could also find it at 12 13 14 you know whatever if if that Pacers pick ends up being a lottery pick you know um it’s the same thing with Isaiah Collier like yeah he’s been awful but but how much of
That is the team around him how much of it is him he’s also got like a lot of really positive qualities um you know Um Stefan C Castle’s um player comp is hilarious being RJ Barrett um Tyler Smith has a stretch big um I don’t know um I haven’t watched enough of him and I’m I’m looking forward to to to doing more of a deep dive into his numbers into his
Game film Etc I I just haven’t watched enough of him I’ve watched like maybe one game and I don’t want to two games two games so that’s not that’s not enough and again you might have you know a player like yees Missy um you know
Come out of nowhere and and and end up in the lottery like he could you know he has like this crazy athleticism is he more Mark Williams or is he more drik lively right like I mean you know a big March Madness for any of these guys is
Going to push them up the draft boards because there’s so little attachment that anyone who shows anything you know Salon is a great example of you know unmistakable athletic upside but what is you know and again you you also have to think about two things when you’re talking about the Raptors your
Development system is real you’ve seen it and dakovich has gotten this team to buy in to winning and playing the right way and playing hard even when there’s really nothing to play for right now there’s nothing to play for there’s no playoffs there’s no plan there’s nothing there’s nothing you’re doing nothing
Right now um and and guys haven’t resorted to doing the same thing they did last year they’re sticking with the game plan they’re continuing to pass even though someone you know snarky said on Twitter today that Gary junior is just gunning for a contract no he’s not
He took great shots today and he made good shots today he wasn’t gunning for [ __ ] I haven’t seen selfishness on this team since Dennis Schroeder left maybe like for one possession but like this team has not been selfish so Kudos and dark rakov are getting this team to buy
In but you don’t have a coaching staff that is capable of number one developing players like legit developing players we’ve seen development in all players and number two you have a system in place that is capable of really unlocking certain types of offensive players specifically guys who see the
Floor really well I think it’s setting up very well for a player like Nico topic to be like a very very good fit for this team and I can’t even tell you like for European players how much easier his transition is going to be with you know Darko and Evo Evo here so
Like I think it would be really good for him um he’s obviously a very promising young player I’m not making any declarations about what type of star whatever he will be but he has some monog geny in his game and I I really like him so yeah okay I’ll talk to
Youall later um definitely hit subscribe if you if you’re around here you haven’t hit subscribed please hit subscribe um content is going to be coming your way very soon just give me one final week okay um I’m easing into the players choice stuff this next week final you know
Weekend for you know organizing and dumping a lot of [ __ ] um everything that I said about you know things that you know you you need to do for your brain these are things that I need to do for my brain as well you know um I’ve calmed
Down a lot like over the last couple years it’s crazy like there was this guy and I tell you there was this guy on Twitter um I posted about Nathan Barrett passing away on Twitter um I think like an hour after and uh some guy wrote this like really
Insensitive um tweet in response to it and basically he attached an article that said um you know three like one dead and a car crash or whatever and he had assumed because it had happened the same day um he thought it happened the same day that and he said oh it’s just
Worth noting that he was speeding and he endangered someone’s life before he passed away and I tell you like in that moment moment like there a part of me that was just like man this is a year ago I’m like literally like I’m spending my next day just screaming at this guy
On because he made me so angry but actually in that moment I I I literally just looked up his Twitter handle and just looked at his last two three posts surprise surprise surprise surprise you know everything’s about like black people black Twitter black this black that in critical lens you
Know like black Twitter always T and I was just like oh [ __ ] this guy’s so racist that he’s going to use the death of a 19-year-old child to spread a false rumor about the fact that he was in that car and he wasn’t even in that car is
Such a crazy thing but that would have really really really pissed me off a year ago to the point where I would have taken like I probably would have made a video about it or something just like this is so stupid but that’s why it works that’s why it works negative
Content negative posts negative outrageous things they catch our attention because increasingly a lot of us are growing up in very very unsafe environments and so when unsafe things present themselves um our brain scans to that and it neglects things that are safe and stable and it hones in on the
Thing that’s unstable I can tell you right now that there are people who hate pcer basketball because of how we talked about Fred or how we talked about Pascal or how we talked about um Nick nurse or whoever I think it’s just those three get right um but they have probably
Spent more time thinking about penar basketball than some of our biggest fans they’ve probably spent more time tweeting about how bad this channel is than some of you who listen to this Channel at 1:00 a.m. are they making their lives better no what I be making
My life better by you know like talking talking about that guy or fighting with him no it’s an insensitive thing that he did because he’s blinded by whatever hatred he has in himself and it’s not my burden it’s not my problem but it was annoying um I’ll say this sometimes we
Don’t like our environment doesn’t even give us a chance like we don’t even have a chance so I want to make sure that my environment gives me a chance yeah so got to do that that’s the next week that’s to that’s tonight onward you know get to the gym fix fix
[ __ ] you know fix [ __ ] around the house that’s broken um and then and only then do I feel like I will have the clear-headedness and you know cuz again like I don’t think my mind is is operating optimally right now I don’t think I’m at my best I don’t think I’m
Showing up to these Labs as my best I don’t think I’m showing up to pendant as my best I don’t think I’m showing up to meetings as my best I’m certainly not looking my best I’m not talking my best I mean I’m falling apart here you know
To some extent I’m falling apart a little bit and I need to take care of myself like I think it’s just like a very important thing that I you know as a child and not learn to do that like I learned that you don’t get to take care
Of yourself that you’re not important I’m like know as an adult I’ve realized that I am important and that I do need to take care of myself for sure and um it’s not just Relentless work work work work work yeah definitely have a strong work ethic it’s a really important thing
To do but you know having the confidence to be like you know yes I want to work really hard but occasionally I need some time to deconstruct some of the [ __ ] that’s happened um so yeah um but I have some fantastic ideas for how we can
Elevate content and I would love to time out my not return because I’ll continue to do these lives you can tell I’m losing my voice really hard eh um of course I want to uh you know get back to of course I’ll continue to do
These lives as long as I can continue to play games um but I mean like for those deeper videos for the graphic videos for video essays Etc I just really really want to to be set up I want to have all my hard driv sorted out I want I want to
Do all that stuff so anyway that’s to say that thanks a lot for tuning in as always guys appreciate it and um yeah talk to you later peace
The Toronto Raptors were competitive until half time. But the Orlando Magic knew they had this game and 4-5 minutes of effort later, it became obvious to everyone in the building that these teams did not belong in the same gym.

The Raptors had no chance to beat the Magic. They might not beat another team for the rest of the season as long as Scottie, RJ and Jakob remain out.
It’s all about youth, development, and making sure the Raptors learn from some of their quick-fix disasters of the past.

Gary "Macho Man" Trent Jr. If you know, you know.
I’ve been saying this since Scottie went down and we went full tank mode that the player I think the raptors are targeting is likely Nikola Topic. Darko and Ivo Simovic who are both Serbian likely have more info on this guy and probably been scouting him since he popped up on the radar over there. People forget Masai’s comments about Serbian players when hiring Darko and then we went out and hire ivo simovic from UCLA who knows Serbian talent better than anybody out there. Now Surprise, surprise we now have a Serbian going at the top of the draft around where we could be picking and he already has Pro Ball experience in a weak draft class and he’s coming from a country that’s constantly producing talent that’s becoming factors in the NBA. It make’s too much sense as a pick that likely won’t be a bust.
