Josh Giddey being left unguarded all game.

People still think there’s a way to salvage him but it’s not happening barring the most outlier development we’ve ever seen. Normally i’d be fine at hanging his hat on the passing, sadly he’s not even a very good passer as a whole. He can make some great reads to cutters and whatever off-ball action we got going on, but he’s among the worst decision makers in the league once that ball hits the deck.

He’s not an effective nba player.

Doesn’t mean he can’t have good games. Doesn’t mean he can’t occasionally put up nice statlines.

He just has zero truly transferable impactful traits/tendencies.

he’s a net negative in every facet of the game

Are these low lights? Thought he went like %30+ that game.

This is going to be a problem in the playoffs… still, I think he can be an effective 20mpg guy off the bench. Would be foolish to sell low on him.

The future I predict is Cason/Joe takes his spot as a starter a couple games into the first 1/8 series and Giddey continues off the bench the remainder of his rookie contract into next year

Strangely I always expect him to make most 3s he takes. I know his numbers don’t look good but there are wide open players who take 3 and immediately you yell fuck nooooo but I don’t feel the same with Giddey.

If I were him I’d drive it every single time. And as a coach I would tell my players to spread out if this happens so he can get a pass off if they collapse. He is an amazing around the rim finisher so just go to the rim. His shooting is going to get us out of the tournament.

He was 50% from the field and had 19pts on 12 shots wtf is this post? What good is showing only misses when a guy has the same amount of makes lol? You’re a hack.

Saying hes not a good passer is just a straight up lie. He’s shown effectiveness when he’s had a ball in his hand. The main problem isn’t Giddey its Chet. Why do people put a center on Giddey. Because they feel like they can get away with putting a wing on Chet. Other teams have put players as short as 6’4″ on Chet, because this team hasn’t found away to take advantage of that. This is one flaw of just being a 5 out offense all the time. If they would use a little 4 out and 1 or a basic offense that could take advantage of this it wouldn’t be an issue.

People not really observing the game from a whole and just focusing on one player is getting this skewed view. Even teams that continue this are only doing this in the regular season. Will they do this in the playoff? I dont think teams will do this much in a 7 game series against the Thunder. Why? To game plan just to take Giddey out of the game isn’t something that you really want to do. Most teams that do this are hoping the coach is stubborn and want change, however Mark has shown that he will change and throw other lineups out there. It’ll be harder to match up with the Thunder with anybody else out their than Giddey.

Regardless of all the clips showing these few times that Giddey isnt being covered, glosses over the fact that the starting unit actually has is a positive on the floor. There are other variances but they are small. Teams that have use this strategy have actually been few in number as doing this changes the defense for the whole team. There have been games when teams have tried this strategy and the Thunder were able to take advantage of this with transition offense, as teams have forgotten about the matchups while going back in defense. The best way to counter this is to use Josh consistently with off ball movement, screener, slasher, dunkers spot and with the ball. Having him spot up is the absolutely worst thing you can do.
