Kyrie is the best #2 option – no question

Top 5? Hmm. Depends on how harshly you count his missed time against him. I saw a stat that he played 12 consecutive games this season for the first time in like 5 years or something.

Edit: Found the exact quote, “Kyrie Irving is playing his 18th consecutive game, that’s the longest streak of consecutive games he played since 2016.”

  2. Swoosh_rotaerc

This is a tough question. The margin between guards after the the top 3 is so small.

    Luka is clearly number 1.

Then SGA and Curry are 2nd and 3rd (not sure about the order).

    After that there’s a bunch of guards that could be 4th;

Haliburton, Ant, Kyrie, Dame, Booker, Mitchell.

It all depends what you value.

  3. ConfidentTap2171

Haliburton Superstar Free Trial has ran out. He’s been hot garbage

  4. StormTheTrooper

I love Kyrie, he is a top 20 guard easily, but tall order to not even consider Ant, Booker, Trae and Spider above him right now.

I do think he is above Brunson, though. Brunson is a better passer, but Kyrie is a goddamn sniper. KyFuckYou 3s are a thing.

  5. devilmaskrascal

Ja maybe? I think we forget about him because he has been suspended and injured so much.

  6. Dat_Boi_John

Since getting healthy around January/February, Kyrie has been the 4th best guard behind Luka, SGA and Curry in that order. For me, only Brunson is close. Haliburton has been struggling with injuries and the rest of the players aren’t on Kyrie’s level.

  7. arturofalcon

Love Kyrie but Ant and Booker (as much as I hate him) are better

  8. Obvious_Party_5050

IMO, Brunson if you account for his age and availability

  9. PM_ME_UR_RESPECT

Cmon bro, Ant Edwards is right there.

  10. zigzagzig13

I laughed out loud when I saw this post, figuring it was a huge overreaction to the buzzer beater and very recent form. BUT, and I know no stat ever does any debate justice, Kyrie is #5 in PER for guards this season behind SGA, Luka, Halliburton and Brunson.

While his games played still leaves a lot to be desired, he’s clearly improving there, and stats (mostly) don’t lie.

Combine some sort of statistical proof with Kyrie’s intangible ability to hit big shots…hard to argue against OP’s point.

  11. TheMop05

I’d put Booker at 4 honestly. Not sure there’s a guard I’d take him over that’s not Luka, Curry, or SGA

  12. Replace Hali with Kyrie and put Brunson at 5th.

  13. HenningDerBeste

Kyrie can look line a top5 guard in moments. But over a hole season he is not. He is not consistent enough and injured to often.

  14. pancakesontheweekend

People on this post saying Brunson…

Are you ever going to learn? Like just go ahead and tell me you don’t know anything about basketball. Kyrie is better and has always been better.

If you need a reminder, go check January 11th.

  15. Brunson and Mitchell are better than Haliburton honestly. Brunson is a proven playoff killer now. Realistically, those 3 are better as number one options than Kyrie. Given the health also, I’d rank them 3 above Kyrie. I wouldn’t trade Kyrie for any one of them though. The fit with Luka is so much better and Kyrie knows how to be that number 2.

EDIT: Actually there’s no way Hali is over Kyrie without ever playing in the playoffs and how bad his defense has been. I’d say only Brunson and Mitchell

  16. Yesboi227

Hali is not better than kyrie lol. Hali had like 1 or 2 good month of basketball

  17. tleikheen

Curry avs 27 ppg and Irving 25.4 ppg .Irving gets a rebound and assist higher than Curry and is shooting better than Curry both from the field and 3’s this year.

This isnt about who’s the best throughout their career ,this is about this year.

SGA is having a better year than both Curry and Irving .

Almost everybody would take either Curry or Irving OVER Halliburton come playoffs .

And I agree Fox & Brunson should be considered over everyone else not named SGA and Luka.

  18. Kyrie has never carried a team the way Jalen Brunson is carrying the Knicks this year.

It really hurt to say this as a Mavs fan.

    .

  19. ExcellentJuice4729

Fox, Brunson, Dame, Booker, Mitchell are better.

Ky has the potential to raise his game up to top 5 level. But on the whole I’d say top 15 guard is fair

  20. Dantheban07

Idk what in particular does Tyrese bring to the table that Kyrie doesn’t, apart from slightly better passing quality

  21. n0th1ng10

Dame lillard. Hes the reason the bucks don’t miss a beat when Gianni’s is out … theyre 0-5 without Dame and 3-1 with no Giannis … Ky is still incredible but idk if he can carry a team like dame can.

  22. NoWayNotThisAgain

I don’t think Hali is better than Kai.

  23. Ill-Bat-2621

I used to like Hali but I saw him drop 0 points in a full game as the number 1 option. That’s just disgusting.

  24. SaintSunday77

Ant, Book, Mitchell, and Fox are all better than Kyrie imo, and they’re all their teams first option (Booker runs the offense, KD is a secondary ball handler) and leading their teams to playoff/play in spots

  25. Wallstreetlovesme

The best guards in the nba who I’d put ahead of kyrie if you’re counting brown at sg, Brown, Dame, Mitchell, Brunson, Hali, SGA, Murray in the playoffs, Ant, Fox, Luka, Book, and Steph. So no I don’t think we have two top 5 guards in the best guards, in the ones I listed you could argue maybe 3-4?? But otherwise I think the rest are clearly ahead of Kyrie. If we’re talking fit for luka I would be tempted to put Derrick white on here as well

  26. mmmmmsandwiches

De’Aaron Fox doesn’t get any respect, and Donovan Mitchell is also probably better.

  27. Aangslefthandarrow

I’m a Mavs supporter but this is cap

  28. WhoWightMan

What exactly has Haliburton done to be considered better than Kyrie?

  29. lenkellui

Booker and Mitchell are easily better, and I’d probably take Ant / Fox / Dame over Kyrie as well.

  30. epitome1986

kyrie could still be a top 5 guard if he wasn’t given a bad whistle due to his controversial past. kyrie only gets 3.5 fta when realistically he should be closer to 5 a game. considering he is one of the best free throw shooters in the game that would mean he would be closer to 27 a game.

  31. rulerBob8

Depends on if we’re calling Ant a guard or an SF.

  32. Anjum0ve

Is Jamal Murray dead or we forgot about the champions second best player?

Kyrie is good but has lost too many games to be top 10
