113 to 107 Tre Jones with 22 points for the Spurs uh vassel had uh or Vel had 19 points wimy like I said he was just a for the ride he played only 32 minutes um KY just did it again man Kyrie had 28 points seven rebounds three assists he

Was he was just money during Ramadan and Luca his shot was off he was six out of 27 but he had 18 points 10 rebounds 16 assist for a triple double yeah is it was one of those more chill triple doubles not 30-point triple double and

Don’t know what you’re talking about he made his last shot he got a triple double he was great um honestly dude I I I really don’t know I mean you know in some of his other lower scoring games this season it’s been because teams have been doubling Luca or like playing some

Unconventional defenses really jumping passing Lanes forcing him into a lot of turnovers which then kind of or like playing Super physically with him which I feel like then affects his shot making but this game was kind of the other way around I mean his his floor

Game was really nice he had a ton of assists uh you know really high degree of difficult difficulty and flare on some of these passes but he just couldn’t get anything to go so I mean hopefully it’s not some like injury related issue or something hopefully it

Was just a stinker and you know everybody’s going to have one of those every now and then and uh you know fortunately it just didn’t cost the MS tonight Dante x x had a hell of a game he Ste into that third scoring row what

Was he four out of four on threes and 16 points correct yeah he was great you know this is really kind of his best shooting game and maybe his highest scoring game since that game he had against the Lakers way back in I think December maybe early

January yeah so it’s been a while and you know it was really good to see him obviously make a three make four of them I think all four of his attempts tonight but also just the confidence to take them because his last game against the

Nuggets he took one3 in that game and it was an air ball and it was just kind of like man you know he and Maxi and PJ Washington they’ve all really been struggling from Beyond The Arc these last couple weeks or so and you know but

Dante stepped in the first one it went through and then there was no hesitation from then on out and you know the Mavs need somebody anybody you know even if it’s one by one to just bust out of these slumps and uh get this team back

Closer to 35 or 40% from three on a nightly basis and tonight it was exm and hopefully he can keep that going because you know I know that Jason kib would love to have him on the floor in games especially in close games when the other

Team has a dynamic guard like a Vel or you know Jones tonight was giving the map some problems too Dante is really built to cover those guys uh and he has ball handling and playmaking chops and if he can just step into shots like that

And make them then all of a sudden you know you can play him really whenever you want in any situation you want well there’s a couple ways I want to go uh especially I’m glad that you did mention though like the the confidence that exm was shooting with because it does feel

Like there was hesitation from those guys just to shoot him Maxi CLE at times and so it’s always good to see the confidence with the ball going up I I want you to give me and I I am the Negative Nancy on this program so I do I

The Spurs were throwing at the Mavericks that gave them some level of trouble clearly you know I really don’t know I mean the Spurs like they had 107 points they only shot 44% they had a ton of turnovers like I feel like the Mavs played a pretty solid defensive game the

One thing that sprang up you know kind of repeatedly throughout this game was just allowing a lot of corner threes now I I didn’t hand count them so I don’t know exactly what the Spurs shot from uh from the corners but I know it had to be

Close to probably 50% I mean they were getting a ton of open looks and basically anybody that wasn’t Jeremy soan was knocking those shots down and so you know I think sometimes the Mavs really gear up to the strong side of the floor sometimes by putting two guys

Right in the ball handle their face you know pretty aggressive double teams sometimes it’s just tilting help in their Direction so that if they do beat the guy that’s defending at the point of attack they’ll have two or three bodies between them in the rim but when that happens you’re allowing these skip

Passes to the corner and so the guy on the weak side of the floor and generally in the Mavs defense it’s going to be Kyrie or Luca but it could be somebody else depending on the way you know the other team is setting up um that guy has

To keep his head on a swivel and know where his man is and then also one guy has to be ready to rotate and get out to the corner because that is the one single shot other than a dunk or a layup that you do not want to allow anytime

You’re down the floor uh playing defense and and you know the Mavs have conceded a few too many of those on this side of the All-Star break and you know tonight the Spurs weren’t able to make enough of them but that was the one thing um that

That was really kind of giving me some grief throughout the game yeah and just just to put the number on it uh they shot seven of 12 from that left corner three the Spurs did and I imagine 12 just from the left yeah yeah holy moly

Yeah they knocked down seven of them but they they got 12 off from that left and that’s that’s no no you have every right to be a critical Carl about this one corner dude that is that is a lot I mean and most nights if the other team shoots

Seven of 12 from the corner like you’re doomed but the Spurs just committed they committed what 16 17 turnovers and so you know the Mavs kind of dodg one Mavericks have won their 40th game of the year now they’re 40 and 29 11 games but

500 and excuse me yeah 11 games up 500 San Antonio is still 15 and 54 but the Mavericks hold another opponent under 110 points I think the streak now is is it four or five straight games in a row now all I know is they’ve won six out of

Seven games yeah and I mean you can even up the threshold a little bit when opponents don’t score 120 against the Mavs this year they have a significantly positive record you know in to your point they’ve now done that a few games in a row and you know that’s the reason

Why they’re winning all these games cuz tonight they only scored 113 which is like seven points below their season average but it’s really really cool the able to lean on your defense you know yeah this is what I’m loving about this team it’s not just if we don’t score a

Lot of points we can’t win this team is showing the versatility that a lot of quote unquote National experts were saying this team is a team nobody wants to face in the playoffs the Mavericks by the way uh with this defense and and playing the teams that they’re supposed

To be they are now 22 and5 against teams that are below 500 and they got more of them down the stretch yeah and it’s been more than two months since they’ve lost to a losing team the last time was early January and that devastating one to the

Grizzlies at home where they ended up losing by like 15 or 20 um you know so you definitely want to take care of business down the stretch I mean obviously you’re neck and neck with Sacramento and Phoenix right now you got those two big ones coming up against the

Kings next week but in between now and then you play the Jazz yep and the last time the M played the Jazz the Jazz thumped them pretty good out in the mountains and so you know Dallas has to take care of business between now and

Then but yeah I mean being able to win games with defense and not just offense is super important and I mean some of the map’s most recent wins you know the Spurs tonight Luca was five for 26 or I guess six for 27 because he made that

Layup at the end and then their win against the Warriors they were what like six of 28 from three and against the Nuggets no player on the team other than Luca Kyrie made a three-pointer the whole night 17 they beat the defending chance you know that way so you know now the

Warriors and obviously the Spurs no offense are not on the Nuggets level but there will be nights when your best guys don’t have it there will be nights when your role players don’t have it there will be nights whenever you get a little unlucky because some dude careers

Against you and scores 30 whenever he averages like eight Off the Bench like that’s going to happen but you you know good teams win when everything goes right great teams are able to win whenever one or two things do not go right and you know the Mavs are trying

Then obviously with him too the the single most important thing is can you be a valuable Defender you know because the the the Mavs bench is and really most of their starting lineup is flooded with guys that are pre primarily on the floor to play defense you know these are

Not guys that are out there as great as it is whenever Dante exom gets you 15 points like his job is to give you really good defense and so if you’re more of an offensive minded player Jak kit is going to break the tie by how

Well you play defense and Hardy has been really really engaged uh on defense over the last couple months which is honestly it’s great to see because earlier in the season he was kind of losing guys you know not not necessarily making mistakes but just not making like maybe not being

In the right spot at the right time or whatever um but the last couple months he’s been really really good there too and um you know I think that’s that’s how he’s going to get more minutes now with Dante being healthy again and obviously luuk and Kyrie in the mix

There’s just not a lot of to go around in the back court but if something happens you know God forbid to one of those guys you I think Hardy has shown that he is more than deserving of more minutes down the stretch here The Bigs look good tonight uh Gaff had uh 13

Mavericks beat the uh the Denver Broncos I mean excuse me the Denver nuggets that their whole game plan was we’re gonna not let jic do his thing and take care of the paint and out rebound and because that’s playoff basketball and we were talking about how the referees over the

Last since the All-Star break basically are allowing players to continue fighting through things or in other words not calling the Ticky Tac fouls because the offensive players are so skilled they just raise their head up and they call it foul you know what I’m saying so I want to know from you Bobby

What you think about the vers ility and the fact that coaching staff were trying to get uh some defensive prowess in in telling these guys to take care of the paint because the threes don’t always drop yeah I mean you know by field goal percentage before the trade deadline

They were one of the bottom teams the NBA um at opponent field goal percentage at The Rim you know and and since the trade deadline they’re much better in that stat they’re much better just in general at opponent’s field goal percentage anywhere in the paint too so

You know Gafford and Lively and let’s not forget even before the trade deadline you know Lively missed a ton of games he was he turned his ankle a couple times or whatever so he was out for somewhere around between a third and a half of the Season before they even

Got Gafford so now it’s like a completely new look in the front Court not only with those two but also like you mentioned with PJ Washington who did another good job guarding Victor wama tonight you know I thought Maxi did a pretty good job closing the game um

Playing small ball five as well and also four earlier in the game throughout too so the Mavs just have a lot more size and athleticism and that helps them defend the rim that helps them on the defensive glass but in that Denver they had 22 offensive rebounds you know

That’s their most in a non overtime game since 2005 yeah so I mean we are talking like historic levels of glass eating around here which is really good you know it’s been a while since you’ve been able to look at the box score and see

Luca like fourth or fifth on the team in rebounds you know but that’s slowly becoming the norm because gafford’s getting some Lively PJ Washington had 11 or 12 against Denver you know and and a lot of those guys were doing the thing again tonight so you know it’s just good

To have size good to have physicality it’s good to have a presence down there and you know you look around the Western Conference and obviously you can’t put the cart before the horse or anything but you know if you want to go on any type of playoff run you’re probably

Gonna have to go through jic you’re gonna have to go through goar and towns like all these big dudes Yeah well yeah Zion I mean he might be 65 or 66 but dude he’s about nine fet whenever he jumps in the air you have to be able to meet those guys
