Chauncey Billups Postgame Interview | Portland Trail Blazers 117, LA Clippers 125

Any info on anony uh no not yet not yet uh just coach uh your thoughts on the game tonight uh obviously you get down early but you know you end up making it a game late in the fourth quarter yeah you know it was crazy at

The at the half um we had done so many good things you know we wanted to play faster today we wanted to get our ball movement up our our player body movement up uh we we did both of those things very well uh we wanted to not turn it

Over shoot had three turnovers at the half um and man we come in and they were shooting like 60% from 60 something per from Two and 58 from three I mean the shot making was incredible but I didn’t think we played poorly at all you know um so I

Told guys just keep going keep going play faster you know um keep moving that ball I thought we did a good job I really did you know we just we played against a team that’s you know he got a lot more years of experience uh we starting

Four rookies and Aunt you know who was a young guy um so I’m saying we going to start that young let’s just pick it up and play fast man and I thought we did a really good job of that um I was really proud you know uh of Chris you know back

Toback career high you know he’s he’s playing his butt off and and I just thought it was an awesome bounceback game for scoop you know uh for him to just be a aggressive and be attacking the entire time uh those those guys those guys really stood out uh obviously DB gave us

Much needed scoring how important is it for scoot to have I mean obviously you guys have a game tomorrow but then you head out of this long road trip to you know have scoot kind of have a game like this after the couple of weeks he’s had

Since he came back from the injury like how big is that for him I think it was it was really big for him I’m pretty sure he feels great you know um I thought he played good off all around you know he played some good D on a lot

Of spots he was just Paul was hot you know making shots and he was right there in his face um I could tell he was upset I love players that get upset when people score on him you know um and it made him play harder everywhere you know

Um that’s just his competitive fire that’s why he’s going to be such a great player in this league but I thought it was good for him to play well you know against a an incredible defensive team too you know um and struggling against him the other day you know he was

Looking forward to the game I was very happy for scoop that very final possession when Ryan was at the free throw line he missed the second one on purpose it looked like you kind of were cracking up a little bit and you know talking you saw what kind of what he was

Trying to do it was a miscommunication uh a misunderstanding I’ll say um we wanted to get into one of our late game defensive things where we call it hit hit one um and he thought we were over there saying miss one so that’s why you you probably seen

The smile um cuz it was the most innocent mistake ever you know um but even rops you know another one that I thought played really well in the game man but yeah I was just a little Miss uh you know that was that was a little language barrier situation right there you sound

Pretty you talk a lot more positive than you did Wednesday night is that I imagine that’s because like you talking about these youngsters who played well against a team that’s clearly Superior and should win but guys show decent well what I love about it is you get a chance

To do it against the same team a couple days later and just see you know see if we can make some adjustments see if we can play better um see if we can play harder you know um some of the things that we thought would help us today just

To see if we could do it you know and I thought we did you know um so it was a good response for us you know obviously we lose the game but I felt like we got better in the process ant injury at all seemed potentially serious or you have no idea

I didn’t think it was I didn’t think it was but obviously I don’t know uh much much more on it right now johnon do you think what you’ve seen from Chris is that him turning a corner corner and figuring stuff out or is it just a shots are going down

Situation I think Chris um you know the what what we hope what we all hope and him included is that what we’ve seen from him from a shot making standpoint the last few games becomes just who he is you know um I believe it will because that’s how he

Works you know um he’s in that gym he’s working on it all the time and he he’s realistic and he knows what he needs to work on but um I love everything else you know even when he’s not making shots he still plays the right way and he’s

Guarding his butt off and he doesn’t miss a lot of assignments and he’s he’s doing really good in our in in in uh closeout situations and he makes the next play he just he he he plays right man he plays right and any coach loves players that play right you

Know so yeah yeah he’s he’s he’s been shooting it very well you know um and I can’t tell you that that’s going to be what happens the rest of the season and the rest of his career I hope so um but most people always you know

You you have some UPS you have some Downs um and he’s up right now and he’s playing great and I’m happy for him because he deserves it how how unique is it to have a guy like Chris who at his size is getting better and better at

Guarding uh primary ball land lers but offensively he works so good as a dunker spot guy just running that Baseline either as a shooter in the corners or as that next man action you don’t typically see that kind of archetype is it is it beneficial to have somebody who’s a

Little bit different like that yeah it is it is um and Chris is the kind of guy that is going to be at his best when he’s playing with veterans and better players more experienced players because because he understands who he is you know and he sticks to that role um now

Obviously you know when we have who’s playing right now some of these guys have to play an extended role but he works on the things that he knows this is who I’m going to be when all of our guys are back you know um so it’s not

Much of a an adjustment for him but absolutely it’s um it’s it’s it’s advantageous for me to have a guy like that who can play Down that dunker but also can play in that corner um and he’s getting much better on the perimeter as well

  1. racking up good numbers in garbage time. A staple of the Blazers season. There's been a lot of garbage time opportunities.

  2. 7 minute interview after that game ๐Ÿคฃ

oh, I get it, it's because we played the Clippers so Chauncey's got more juice
