An NBA Playoffs Alternate Reality πŸ€”

An NBA Playoffs Alternate Reality πŸ€”

The NBA would never do this but this would be a fun alternate reality so behind me is what this year’s NBA playoff bracket would look like if conferences and divisions didn’t exist you already know Celtics heat would be an absolute War but now we get matchups that would otherwise be impossible like

Embiid versus gobear in the first round or James Harden versus his old team in round two I mean how fun would these first round matchups be Cav Suns bucks Kings Luca versus joic now there are two reasons why the NBA would ever do this one is tradition and then two is the

More important one that much travel would cost the league more money and be exhausting for the players but also it’s objectively more fair to see teams this way and again we could still keep the play in and we just get a better shot at the best four teams being the final four

Oh and here’s my last crazy idea what if as a regular season incentive the top four seeds got to choose their first round opponent imagine the drama

  1. I remember Mark Cuban discussing this and saying how a Portland-Miami first round matchup would be completely untenable

  2. I have another playoff alternative: instead of having full seeding, they do the play in, but then the #1 seed gets to pick who they play out of the 5, 6, 7, 8. Then the 2 seed picks out of the remaining teams, and then the 3 seed, and then the 4 seed gets whoever is left. But there is still conferences. Pls review this in a reply, or a vid. Also I am a big fan, always loved your videos and I mostly agree with your takes.

Edit: rip I said this before I watched the end of the video πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€my bad andrew

  3. Reason number 1 – is money – an east team playing away out west would have an impact on viewership.

This also isn’t an objectively fair scenario as the schedule does use division and conference – to be fair the schedule needs to be fair.

  4. I still don't know whats the point of this. As you said, there is an in-season tournament already, so if I assume correctly, you want to see more competition. My idea is, instead of your idea, why not do a play-in format for the entire playoffs, just like how Olympics have the two losers of the final four play each other to determine whos Bronze. 1v8, 2v7, 3v,6, 4v5 then the winner of each, moves on, but the loser can play against the loser of the other remaining 3 teams in their Conference and have a shot at the title, like a second chance. It'll take longer to finish, but we can always shorten the regular season as many fans and players think its too long anyway. Lastly, if you do the math, its 9 Rounds with Round 8 being 3 teams remaining, so the top team in Round 9 gets extra rest just like the Finals.

  5. Its a completely and utterly horrible idea, the east vs west landscape of the league is at its core. Rivalries were already nearly killed off when divisions were removed, this would just be the nail in the coffin for the league as a whole. Look at how this realignment and destruction of historical rivalries and matchups is killing college sports. And then you go and suggest we do that to the nba too? Disgusting

Dont even get me started on the second idea, pure nonsense

  6. I mean the records right now are based on the current way of scheduling things so each team would likely have a slightly different record.

  7. Also would give less rivalry in the league since teams are less likely to play against each other

  8. There would be so many upsets if your last idea was real because teams would feel disrespected

  9. I do like this idea because there is always 2 or 3 series mostly in the firdt round which are almost not worth watching

  10. This would be horrendous for the eastern conference if it happened at the start of this year, the talent in the East is virtually non existent when compared to the west this year
