Brandon pow could be your kick returner um and maybe they draft a guy but with the kickoff return rate going down the NFL just announced that for the 2024 season one season only one show only like Taylor Swift one season only just to see what happens and who knows we’ve

Seen them do rules to start off a season Sam you’ve seen this and then literally like after the bye-week or something they’re like all right after week 10 we’re done with this we’re not doing that no more but as of now kickoffs are going to be XFL formatted there’s going

To be a drop zone that the kick returners too can be you have a Max of two players back there so you can’t do anything tricky with like three four guys and try to do hide the potato and run around and confuse all the guys running down the field

Because you do have an advantage now with two return but you can’t do a fake reverse with two but all the players are going to be on the oppos so the kickers are still going to be the 30 all the players are going to be at the opping teams 40 and

They’re gonna be lined up across from each other I think about five yards apart when the ball is kicked nobody can move until the returners catch the ball so now they get a full head of steam to get I mean if they if they don’t get 20 yards they’re they’re taking too much

Time back there but the kickers job one is still to try to kick the ball out the end zone the other thing is going to be pin him somewhere so kick into a corner no more fair catching and if you do have a Touchback it comes back out to the 30

Now I think before was the 25 wasn’t it uh yes cor correct yep yeah so now it’s because before was like oh if you if you just take a knee it’s gonna come out to the 25 so stop trying to return to the 20 cuz that was the old thought

Was it came to the 20 so if I can get past the 20 it’s a positive return turn now it’s the 25 now it’s the 30 so now you have to really decide can I get to the 30 or should I just go ahead and just down this and fair catch or sorry

No fair catch so another thing a kicker can do if they’re really good now kick it to the one or like the one inch line or one yard inside the end zone because you don’t want to kick it out because now when they catch it at the one or the

Goal line your guys are at the 40 speed basically the thought is you’re going to get 20 and we’re going to get 20 we should meet at the 20 yard line can we get him at the 20 versus let him get the ball at the 30 can I get to the

30 without them getting to me I mean so there’s a lot of but the one thing Sam that that I’m annoyed at now one thing with this I don’t like yeah onside kicks if you think about some teams like back in the Pat McAfee days with the the fake

Kick and the kicker recovers it himself because he just kind of bump bunts It Forward can’t do that anymore now if you want to kick an offside kick and you want to surprise the team you have to go tell the official just like reporting like the Lions how the Lions reported

Their offensive lineman illegally and they lost that game to Dallas which didn’t matter they end up going to the NFC or the uh Championship or whatever but if you think about that now there is no more of that surprise like they’re tired we just had a big play Let’s Kick

A fake onside kick cuz their offensive line is tired or their front guys their linebackers are tired can’t do that anymore so now you got to that’s the only thing I feel like you’re taking away some element of surprise stuff uh you’re taking away like the pooch kick

Where you can kind of kick it really really high and try to pin them somewhere like you can still kind I guess you can still kind of do the pooch but no you can’t no because they can’t run so that’s dumb yeah so you take out

The pooch and you’re taking out the uh the onside kick surprise other than that I get it you’re trying to increase the return rate you’re trying to get more kick returners so for Punt returners and kick because now truly a kick returner can be a punt returner because now it’s

More of a jitterbug back there it’s more of a guy who can catch it get really fast and vertical really F uh get vertical really fast which is like a Brandon Powell so now guys like Brandon pow maybe Tariq Hill decides to return kicks now because it’s like look I got

Nine guys running at me and all I have to do is beat one I got to pick a spot because I mean technically cuz guys aren’t really going to like you’re not going to see a lot of crashes cuz I mean the thing is like how

Are they going to defend this like all the Special Teams coaches right now are probably scratching her head calling XFL coaches like how did y’all practice this how did y’all defend this what like what what what are some things to keep in mind so that’s that’s what’s going to be

Interesting with this Sam um uh before we jump over to Michael Grady uh one more quick one though when you think about the NFL and all these rule changes do you think that this eventually because some people are saying like they’re just going to go to flag football do you think that that

They’re going to overdo it to the point where the product becomes like water down well I think Defenders would tell you that I mean I think that the all of the the Innovations they come up with help the offense I mean this this new kick return format helps the offense I

Think because it gives them a better opportunity for bigger returns it does um uh you know we’ll get into the hip drop maybe later that’s helping the offense a lot of the legislation makes it more difficult to tackle people and to be a a a physical defensive player so

Will will people complain about the game not being what it used to be because the offenses are too good I kind of feel like people will still be entertained if the scores are high and the offenses are talented I think that’s always going to be what sells in the league even

From the Timberwolves now those that have seen Anthony Edwards highlights and you’ve seen all the big networks push pick them up what you’re not realizing is the voice behind some of the biggest moments of the Timberwolf season come from this guy so he’s been on the show

Before I’m excited to bring Michael uh Grady back you know I haven’t had a chance to check out a Timberwolves game this year my daughter Sports have AB absolutely had me crazy but I’m I’m going to a Bulls game that’s the craziest like I’m going to a Bulls game

On Wednesday and I haven’t even been to a Timberwolves game uh because we’re flying out to Chicago so it’s just just it’s just one of those things and I didn’t even think about I should have hit you up should have been like CU I was I was trying to figure out who who

Would know somebody in the ticket office I’m like hey Mike I this too late now I should have figured that out but uh thanks I don’t wanna I don’t wanna uh because i’ I’ve teased this on some of the basketball shows we’ve done I’ve teased this on the round table I don’t

Want to hold the fans back any longer man I’m I just want to get this out the way Anthony Edwards down the lane after steal gets a dunk dislocates his finger but in that moment because I saw Jim Peterson tweet that you know he just was quiet because he wanted the moment to

Happen and let you do your thing but what what kind of like has that transpire what was going through your mind and how did you kind of stay in the moment uh you know it’s crazy um and by the way we still got home games left so

Yeah let’s let’s let’s talk get you out there to a game ride oh for sure yeah we gotta make that happen um you know uh we just we just love the game I’m trying to put this to as I possibly can you just love the game there’s a

Love for the game yeah you know what I mean and we’ve been watching this game for a long time and in my time watching Anthony Edwards you know that if he has a seam if he has an opportunity and if he’s taking off on two something crazy might happen he’s had some spectacular

Mist dunks yeah this season you know what I mean that are better than some guys actual makes so when you see him coming down the lane and he’s getting ready to lift off you don’t know what’s going to happen in the moment you don’t you don’t know if he’s going to get

Fouled if he’s going to be able to complete the dunk whatever it’s going to be but to bring it back the way he did to get to the height that he was able to get to you almost black out almost black out for a moment to be honest with you uh

He’s just a a special special talent and what was crazy about that moment was not just the dunk but once he had that finger pop back back in place and he went back out there on the court we’re past the Midway Park point of the third quarter he scored 21 points after that

Man like that was that was his building that night we were in Salt Lake City we were at the Delta Center but it was his house and there’s only you know some guys may have that for you know one or two nights in their entire career he’s

Done that a couple of times this season and he’s just different he’s just different and so uh going back to JY now I appreciate that’s my partner that’s my you know that’s my guy and we we’ve been able to build a rapport from the get-go

And um some of these calls some of these moments you know you hope they continue to live on um and just the chemistry that we have I I I I’m I’m happy that folks you know appreciate that that they feed off of that but it comes from uh

Both of our love of the game and wanting to give the audience the best show possible yeah cuz uh some some commentators um I’m not gonna say any names but Tony Romo Tony Romo has been known to mess up some calls like everybody was pissed off on Twitter at

Tony Romo in the Super Bowl because he talked through the entire final play and you could just feel Jim Nance like dude shut up and let let Patrick Mahomes have this moment and he’s like talking through like oh the 49ers have no idea what’s going on right now and I don’t

Can’t believe they did you know it’s just like just let the moment happen like micle Harman scores you know streamers you know everybody’s running around like just just let it relax before you he didn’t even break the play that’s what was so crazy he didn’t even

Break break the playd down so in that moment for like Jim Peterson to kind of just sit on his hands a little bit and say you know what let me let me let this breathe because it was nuts and that’s what makes it actually perfect for like

ESPN has it TNT has it like everybody’s talking about it now and I mean it’s on everybody’s Twitter Instagram but the finger popping out because i’ I’ve dislocated like five fingers and I don’t think I’ve ever like I could imagine trying to come back and it’s different I

Mean catching a football but I can’t imagine like coming back because it hurts like absolute heck like I know they can give you a little shot in there and you know make sure you’re okay and but it does hurt for him to be able to

Do that in Salt Lake City and and to to talk about Salt Lake City there’s another young man that had a moment in Salt Lake City that on a lot of billboards and you can call it a push off whatever you want but Brian Russell went down in history because of Michael

Jordan Michael Jordan then comes out saying I can see some similarities and I think what you just kind of alluded to is what maybe Mike’s talking about is how he can Captivate a stadium that’s not his own because he’s so likable uh he’s such a good guy he’s not a villain

In the in the script you know quote unquote uh he doesn’t walk in the builds and people boo or hate him like LeBron people hate LeBron uh people kind of hated Kobe a little bit people don’t hate Anthony Edwards I don’t know if it’s the way he does interviews the way

He’s so honest uh but he does Captivate an audience when he’s on TV and finally and I’ve been saying this like the last year and a half ESPN the Timberwolves could beat the Nuggets and ESPN would talk about the Lakers losing by two and they’re not even in the playoffs because

I get it but now you’re starting to hear them say like they there still kind of a negative connotation of how they talk about Anthony Edwards but it’s like like well if he does all this and they get the number one seed without Carl Anthony

Towns and Rudy Gober for part of the way should he be in you know MVP they’re they’re kind of like a backhanded slap in your mind though and and that’s what Charles Barkley was saying like he should be the MVP if they get to one and

He’s been missing all these guys do you see that as well in the NBA right now if Anthony Edwards can push his team to like that one or two seed he should be the MVP of the NBA we have 11 games to go and if he plays at an extremely high level and

They get the number one seat he 100% should be in that conversation and it won’t be the last time that he’s in that conversation as far as you know the MVP discussion he has I was just talking about this at the barber shop for Jordan retired and after the 98

Season came back for a few years with the Wizards we’re talking 20 years that Mike’s been out of the game y during the time that he’s been away from the game there have been a number of guys who showed flashes in their game of being

Like Mike but if you at a barber shop you’re with your boys whatever it may be when someone brings it up like yo he kind of like Mike somebody shuts it down real fast like bro come on man not like 23 bro not like him J don’t even don’t

Even do that to him don’t even do that Kobe was one where he got a pass as his career continued to go along and here is here is Aunt in his fourth year when I see guys on ESPN or TNT or other outlets say just kind of remind me of Mike

Nobody’s really shutting it down right and that says something like folks see something in him in terms of his ability his physique and build obviously his Killer Instinct and he’s still developing like the development that I’ve seen from the start of just the start of the Season forget last year

When I first got here but just the start of this season to right now in terms of his mentality and the things that he’s adding to his game and counter moves that he’s adding to his repertoire it’s just really special to see and he’s just getting started and so that’s the scary

Thing um mean there are very few guys that will go into an opposing Arena and still Captivate the audience I’m excited to see this guy um Steph Curry we saw this at the you know recent Warriors Timberwolves game he’s just he’s he’s just a special talent and his three-point shooting ability and he’s

Been doing it for a long time he’s the all-time three-point King so many opposing fans love to come out and see Steph Curry do um go out there and perform LeBron James is one of those guys Kobe was one of those guys Luca is

One of those guys Ro fans want to go out there and see and I’m seeing it more and more this season with Anthony Edwards and that’s what puts you in that Superstar conversation he’d be the first to say that he’s not there yet but he’s

Right there and so uh going back to your original question if he I mean if he’s out there putting 30 plus up there and they’re able to overtake Denver over take OKC and get the number one seed in the Western Conference it’s going to be really hard to make an argument against

Him right and yeah and so and and I as much as I dislike perk sometimes when he’s on TV perk brought up a point because this is what perk tried to hate on Anthony Edwards and he said Anthony Edwards scoring is the Maverick’s number two option which is Kyrie as far as

Average but then when you actually watch the Mavericks play it’s because one night it’s Kyrie’s night the next night is Luca’s night the next night is Kyrie’s night the next like they don’t really play well together they just coexist and Anthony Edwards on the other hand he’s coexisting and playing well

With Mike connley who can go off at any moment Nas Reed who can go off at any moment he had crawling the towns who we know could go off at any moment so when you have all those options versus where the the the Mavs are kind of a two-man

Show and it’s one-on-one Unstoppable like Kyrie is probably the most Unstoppable Force I’ve ever seen with a basketball it’s like on a yo-yo string and I know like when you’re watching it when you’re covering it you know he’s one of the best finishers in the NBA and

When you look at that kind of conversation I get where perk was going but why do so many people try to find ways to like hate on the Timberwolves because when they were number one for so long people had to shut up it wasn’t like oh they’re number one okay now

They’re number like they were number one for a while and then it just became like they’re just number one then it became well how can we knock them down a pick well the ESPN had the top five teams that they’re worried about in the NBA Finals that could challenge um uh uh the

Nuggets and the timber Wars weren’t even in the top five it was like Suns Clippers uh Mavs uh I forgot the other two it was like the I think Celtics and it was somebody else from the East and when I saw oh bucks and when I saw I’m like

Yeah how do you hate on the number at the time they were number one and they weren’t even giv them a chance to beat the Nuggets so when you look at this up with two questions I guess when you look at this upcoming game against the Nuggets what

Do they have to do not not not moral Victory but really to show people that they are here to to to try to challenge for a championship but then twoo why do people try to hate on the Timberwolves you know they can they can finish the

Season and not lose a game the rest of the way Ry and there will still be doubters in terms of what the Timberwolves can accomplish in the postseason the way you change people’s minds one when you’re a small Market team and two when you don’t have the history behind you in terms of

Postseason success the only way to change people’s minds is to win in the postseason and so I’ve been in you know I grew up in Indiana in small markets and I was watching the conversation between Larry Bird and Reggie Miller and Larry Bird coached Reggie uh around 2000

To 2003 or somewhere in that ballpark and they made it to an NBA Finals they fell but in 1998 they had their best team and they lost to the Bulls and Jordan in seven games and then Jordan went on and beat Utah in the classic shot against Russell and the uh and the

Jazz yep but Larry told Reggie we were the better team and I felt like we could beat the Bulls that year but I don’t think the team believed that we could beat the Bulls now you fast forward to when I was working for the Pacers in the

Uh in the middle of the 2010s when Paul George and Roy Hibert and David West and George Hill and those squads were going against LeBron James Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosch 100% the Pacers had the better team even with the big three like you go beyond that big three they didn’t have a

You know you know startling Talent or whatnot The Big Three made them special but the Pacers had a had a better starting five they had a deeper roster they had a team in my opinion yeah but they didn’t believe that they could actually beat LeBron and them in a seven

Game series and I think that at the end of the day when we look at some of these Championship runs or whatnot it’s it’s it’s the star power in some cases it’s the the big Market there’s so many different factors um getting into the luxury tax the Deep Pockets all those kinds of

Things and that’s why the national media will knock some of these smaller markets H the timos have only been out of the first round once in the entire history of the franchise so even from that standpoint it’s like they’re trying to do something they’ve NE they’ve only

Done once before and if they get to the finals of course they’ve never done that and so am I GNA trust four-year Pro Anthony Edwards or am I going to trust this guy right who’s done it before whether we’re talking about even underdog LeBron Squad there’ll be folks

If the pce if excuse me if the temple wolves face you know the Lakers there’ll be folks picking the Lakers yeah oh yeah you know so it so what I always what I always say is like we we can’t from the from the locker room standpoint you

Can’t can’t get caught up in what people are saying about you if your goal is to get that that validation and to get that respect the only way to get it is to knock off the top dogs in the playoffs and that’s that’s where the focus should

Be that’s the only way that it’s going to happen otherwise it’s going to be an I Told You So situation oh I didn’t believe him in anyway I I didn’t think they were going to so the regular season is great it certainly sets the stage for homec court advantage all those types of

Things but it is an entirely different season when you get to the playoffs it’s an entirely different animal mentally even the most recent game against the Warriors Timber will struggled for three quarters in that ball game right yeah they’re a better team than Golden State but mentally there’s something about

Their style of play and then facing off against Steph Curry the number of fans that he has in your building Klay Thompson Draymond Green this the bravado and the swag that they carry with them um uh being multiple you know Champions so uh there’s a mental aspect of it that

You have to overcome and until you do that people aren’t going to believe in yeah again and that’s that’s what I’m seeing like it’s it is a lot of that where some guys are seeing Anthony words is the truth yeah what you say and and

The and the and the the the perk take if it was just that talking about an scorn and all those type of things there are very few players in this in this league that I would select as being better or I would want on my team more than Anthony Edwards and the reason

I say that number is so small is because of what Anthony Edwards does on both ends of the floor correct um his defensive as a one-on-one Defender the block that he had against Indiana um he’s had so many great shutdown plays he wants to guard the opposing team’s best player

Like he want oh this guy’s going off jiren Jackson’s going off I got him Paul George I got him Luca I got him Kyrie I got him it doesn’t matter when the game is on the line he’s willing to take on whoever he needs to and is capable of

Doing so and so for for that reason you add couple that with his ability to score 25 to 30 points on any given night against anybody um it puts him in in um in uh rare territory and Kyrie’s my guy I love I love Kyrie was with him in in

Brooklyn um and he is a and and capable he’s a more capable Defender than what people give him credit for he’s not Anthony Edwards in that regard and he’s one of the he’s one of the best ball handlers if not the best ball handler of

All time and one of the most crafty and creative scores and best finishers that this league has ever seen mad respect uh for Kyrie Irving um but I don’t like that example from uh from perk in in terms of taking a shot at uh at ant

Because an can go out there look ant stepped up last season because cat was hurt right right and so we saw his numbers go up to around 25 points per game um this season he’s bettered those numbers with catar around like he’s taken it to another level now with with

With kadell out with the meniscus but from the start of the Season ant came out assertive and they had to figure that whole thing out but it was never going to be a scenario where ant was taking a back seat um I think the experience with Team USA really helped

Propel him in terms of what he needed to do and what he needed to bring not only in games but in practices and he’s carried that over to the regular season so and again he’s just scratching the surface of what he’s capable of right and and and for perk you know I think

What he was trying to get at because they were asking everybody was and like who who do you think can challenge the nuggets and blah blah and he was saying he cuz somebody did actually say you know they think Anthony Edwards and the timbero blah blah blah he was trying to

Say he wants the Mavs and at the time I think the Mavs were like the six seed maybe he was saying the maves because their number one score is legit which is Luca and their number two score is basically Minnesota’s first option and I’m like I kind of get where he was

Going but at the same time I’m like it doesn’t it’s a different team like it’s two different Dynamics whereas the Mavs are yeah Mavs are twom Man game back and forth back and forth you go I go you go I go they’re one up in each other

They’re crossing over because if even if you watch the last play of that game I don’t know if you seen like the sideline view that came from a fan where when Kyrie came off the roll he he’s got to finish with the left and the floater Luca’s not even worried about being in

The play like once Kyrie started Luca turns and actually looking at the camera like oh my go you know like it’s like yeah I’m not in this play Kyrie’s got it now it’s over with he’s not g to Dish it off to me I’m not gonna even try to help

Like that’s where they are as a team whereas you’re right I I could see Anthony Edwards saying screw the switch off I’m staying with Kyrie Nas you stay with Luca because you’re longer or Jon McDaniels you stay with Luca because you’re longer and we got to stop those

Two and that’s it I’m gonna go Kyrie you go go Luca and let somebody else beat us and I think that’s why like cuz right now Mavs Kings Lakers Warriors are the four at the bottom Tiber are three so they’re most likely going to play if it

Thunder doing Shay Shay or Shay uh Shay he’s saying I’m not gonna be number two blah blah I want to be number one they’re half game back from the Nuggets I personally and maybe that’s because I’m used to the old NBA where the teams at the bottom are usually at the top

Which are the Suns Warriors and Lakers and Mavs and now you see the Nuggets Timberwolves Thunder Clippers did you ever think you’d see a day like this where kind of Steph Curry LeBron the stars are at the bottom and the new NBA quote un quote is at the top it you know

It was it was bound to happen did I think it would be this season um no but I knew that these teams were coming I knew the Timberwolves were coming and I knew OKC was coming and I really love this this transition that we’re seeing in the NBA I mean we’re seeing young

Guys who and I don’t mean disrespectful in the truest sense of the word I mean Shay is out there he’ll Shake Kevin Durant’s hand and he’s going for his neck there is no sort of reverence and oh I got you know no I’m it’s it’s my

Time right now and I’m going out there every night to bust heads and Shay is as consistent a guy as there is in the NBA when comes to scoring 30 points it’s just book it it’s going to be another 30-point night for Shay gois Alexander and for Edwards we’ve already seen it a

Couple of times this season early in the year against uh the Celtics right he was you know that little scuffle for the jump ball with uh Jason Tatum and then he goes off he goes off in the overtime uh Draymond Green talking mess to ant San Francisco right and he’s saying

Something about him and and ain’t nobody worried about you bro and then a went off and scored 13 points in the fourth quarter um if you don’t have that it inside of you then you’re probably going to wilt in that in that uh particular situation and Draymond Green has made a

Living off of getting in guys heads and talking trash and and the way you win those battle and I was talking about this with with Jim recently is not just talking trash back I don’t give you props just because you talk trash back to Draymond when you give him buckets

That’s when you’re in another Stratosphere how many stories have we heard about Jordan where somebody said something slick to Mike and then Mike was like oh oh okay I’m going give you these buckets and I’m G to talk trash to you while I do it and that’s what puts

You in to me in another Stratosphere where all of a sudden now now you’re kind of feared where people are nudging teammates and going yo don’t talk to him don’t don’t don’t poke the bear don’t blow in LeBron James ear you know what I’m saying so there

There are guys who get in that category and I think I think Aunt is developing is one of those guys in that category and I think it’s great to see and I think it’s going to make for an amazing playoffs probably one of the more intriguing playoffs as you just broke it

Down as we have ever seen where a Kevin Durant a Steph Curry and a LeBron James are all G to be headed into first round playoff series on the road and as underdogs like that’s that’s wild wild each and every and one of them I mean

It’s look more than like they could be Steph like they may not even make the playoffs the way Houston is coming so it’s it’s just a it’s a new day I think the NBA is absolutely in good hands and uh again it’s going to make for a Unreal

Postseason and when you you made a good comment though about blowing the LeBron’s ear Lance Stevenson I think he’s still with Iowa wolves correct yeah yeah do you think he will have a shot sometime down the stretch to to get brought up or do you think it’s kind of

Like this is this is just something he’s doing I hope I you know I hope that for him um you know I was with him uh uh almost his entire time while he was in Indiana and and watched him um grow and he just had this just this mentality

That I’m going at everybody and um and and Aunt has that Aunt just has more Talent right and and uh but and Lance has always had that fire inside him he’s been that feisty competitor um there were just parts of his game that he just wasn’t able to polish and if he

Continues to work on those things while still having that you know big- time competitive mentality then he’ll have a shot he’ll have a shot um the wolves are guard heavy so it may not be with the Timberwolves but I love that you know he’s still passionate about it and and

That he’s still going at it every single game and doing it in the g-league to give himself shot to get back in the NBA say a lot of people wouldn’t have done that most guys would just kept having their agent call call call get me with a

Team get me a 10day um he’s like I’m gonna get it the hard way but but Kevin Durant or not Kevin Durant sorry Kevin Garnett I don’t know if you saw this Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce you know their little podcast um they were talking about playing against players

That you like it was like an aura and he said Kevin Durant Kevin Garnett talked about the first time I think he played Jordan he said Jordan walks in and he’s like man I looked at this m and he’s like it’s like the Bruce Leroy glow like

It was just like Jord walked in the room he’s like he’s like then Jord walks out on the court and same thing he’s like man I don’t know if I was staring into the uh he’s like I don’t know if I was staring into the lights of the stadium

Or something but it’s like it’s like a halo over Jordan when he walked onto the court you know and you just sitting there like man this Michael Jordan he’s like I got his shoes in my locker what is it about today’s Young player like an Anthony Edwards who can see Steph Curry

Who can see LeBron who can see whoever and they’re like and I don’t care about you man like I I respect you but I’m I’m about to go I’m about to try to kill you whereas like guys didn’t do that to Jordan no it don’t come around that

Often um except for Alan iers I will say Alan I did alen Iverson did go at Jordan yeah tce I and and so it it doesn’t come around it doesn’t come around that often you know um this is not this is something that’s unique and special to

Them and something unique that we only see in a handful of guys um and I remember like Russell Westbrook when Russell Westbrook came in the league had that same level of disrespect where you know I do I do respect these guys what they’ve accomplished what they’ve done

But I’m coming for you I’m about to make a name for myself by busting you on the basketball court oh yeah um I remember watching Dwayne Wade when he made the playoffs for the first time and they were facing the Charlotte Hornets and Charlotte was led by Baron Davis who was

A tremendous you know ball player right and so Baron Davis leading away for the Hornets and then Here Comes Dwayne Wade and Dwayne gave Baron and the Hornets the business and won that playoff series and I know you know we’re not talking about Baron is an alltime great and Hall

Of Famer when I that’s my guy and I love him to death but he at that at that at that particular time Baron was that dude yeah like he was one of the guys in the NBA and continued on to have a have a great career but Dwayne of course being

A Hall of Famer it was just like one of those early statements that I recognized like oh he don’t he don’t care he is going for your throat and when you smell and when you smell blood it’s just like a a shark attack is on

The way it’s not one of those I’m going give you you know I’m G give you reverence or whatever it may be it’s like no I’m coming for you I’m coming chop your head off and and so I I got Shay’s been around um for a handful of

Years and he’s learned from some great players and I’m just so fascinated with that OKC Squad because they’re really void the veterans it’s just a bunch of young dudes out there that are playing their hearts out battling and competing you know L Dort and uh Jaylen Williams

And and Shay and and Chad and it’s like these guys and the young guys they have coming off the bench and I know Gordon Hayward is in the mix now and he uh he kind of skews their average age up quite a bit but it’s it’s young guys out there

That are battling competing and so the timo’s got a good mix of young guys and older guys and to see ant learn on the Fly what it takes to to carry a team be a part of carrying a team for an entire season it’s exhausting you know being

Number one you know when when you’re trash it’s not that it’s not that exhausting but if you try to be number one and you have to do that day in and day out over course of 82 Game season that’s tiring as hell and so they’re learning they’re learning a lot yeah I

Was gonna say like when you’re when you’re the hunted versus the hunter the hunter you don’t have to worry about your back you just shoot forward when you’re the hunted you got to check your back your side your left your right and your front there’s no G and everybody’s

Going to give you their best and so looking at everybody giving your best down the stretch you know you got the Pistons you got the Nuggets you got the Bulls you got the Rockets Raptors Suns Lakers Wizards which April 9th that might be one I want to get to then uh

It’s Tuesday night 7 pm and then you got the Nuggets again Hawks and Suns to close out the season when you look at that kind of stretch of games nothing in that personally to me other than the nuggets and the Suns seems like trouble but for the Timberwolves how do they

Mentally you know make sure like the Pistons the Bulls the the Rockets the Raptors and the Wizards that they close those you know and the Hawks they close those games out and you know don’t even leave any doubt uh because you know how it is with basketball if you let a team

Feel like they’re in it they can go like you know like Jordan P Jordan pool is the biggest clown to me when it comes to like basketball he’s just having fun and he don’t care you know and he’s just out there shooting like no matter what and

So contagious it exactly and so all of a sudden a guy like that gets hot and then how do you cool that off you know like how do they how do how do you see them going in these approaching these games even like the Lakers you know Lakers are

Playing for their life you know going into those games saying you know we’re walking into to LeBron’s building but we gotta walk out of here with a win on this West Coast trip like each one of those games that you mentioned whether it’s Phoenix uh the Lakers uh Denver I

Mean these are all potential playoff previews uh the Timberwolves still have a lot to play for they can get the one seat still they could get two or they they they could stay at three depending on how things go the rest of the way so every single game all these G remaining

Games matter and they have something to play for and as you mentioned a lot of the teams that they’re playing the rest of the way has something to play for so as you mentioned it’s the season ended right now then you could be facing the

Suns yep well the Suns you know kind of rocked you um uh in Phoenix earlier this season it was the second half of a back toback from Minnesota they had won seven in a row and Devin Booker just came back and he was cooking so I I want to send

You a message when we go to Phoenix um the Lakers got you the last time you faced each other now you were short-handed but nevertheless the Lakers are feeling good about themselves feeling like they can beat anybody well I’m want to send you a message that you

Can’t beat us right and then against some of these teams as you mentioned that are have pretty much mailed it in um if I’m this coaching staff I I remind this team of the game against Portland um last season and it might have been in early early April and Portland basically

Rolled out a g-league squad to Target Center they weren’t playing anybody I mean anybody and uh towns went out I think towns may have attempted three shots the entire game and the Timberwolves lost now because they lost that game along with other games over the course of last season that they

Probably should have won that they let slip away they lost to Detroit twice they lost to the Wizards twice they may have lost to the Hornets twice but that I’m let that Portland game specifically on your home court late in the season when you know you have a lot of things

To play for because of that loss along with others that game 82 against New Orleans meant something you needed to beat New Orleans to avoid falling into a 910 scenario you wanted to stay in that 78 game and you had to beat New Orleans

To stay in that 78 game so now you got pressure now you have all this intensity you have all these things Weighing on your head and and in that game number 82 for those who remember uh goar gets into with Kyle Anderson MH Jaden gets in early foul trouble punches the wall in

The tunnel breaks his hand is unavailable for the playoffs like the pressure of the moment the intensity of the moment led to all these chaotic things now they ended up winning the game fortunately but you’re now without jayen McDaniels in the postseason if they had just beaten Portland well then

You can rest guys you can rest guys in game 82 now you have Jaden for the postseason run against a Denver team that you gave all they could handle in that in that Series so take care of business so you give yourself an opportunity to relax they’ve done

Amazing work over the course of this season thus far with 11 games remaining they’re going to have a week off once the regular season ends they guaranteed that since they’re not going to be in the play in and um they can give themselves even more rest um by taking

Care of business against the team that they should be and for Tim you know his his job is not done like he he he’s looking at okay this season is in what’s next season you look at the NBA draft right now um and the names out there from the NCAA tournament you talked

About guard because you said there’s a guard heavy team when you think about and and I mean they got two bigs already when you think about a potential first round pick what can the Timberwolves do with that with this team is it is it like another score Off the Bench is it

Another like long 68 type of guard wing to help out Anthony Edwards like what do you see them trying to add uh from from this NCAA tournament you know slash looking into the draft I can be honest one one of the guys that I’m looking forward to is is already on the roster

But we haven’t seen this season and um uh my guy uh from TNT Brian Anderson was messaging me too because he saw him in the tournament last year uh Jaylen Clark Jay Clark was Defensive Player of the Year uh a season ago um had an Achilles

Injury and so we haven’t seen him at all this season um I’ve been seeing him you know the practice court he’s continuing to get more and more work um and so you already have a defensive minded team and then now you’re going to welcome a guy

In the mix who is still working on his offensive game but defensively has the physicality the strength the competitive mentality to go toe-to-toe with anybody and so so I gotta be honest I got to start there I’m really looking forward to seeing um what Jaylen Clark has and

Looking forward to seeing what he does over the summer and um and in summer league and things like and I think should be excited to see um what they’re going to see out of him um I haven’t had a lot of time look I’m watching March Madness just like everybody else um and

So there’s not spec and this isn’t a exciting draft if you will um and and the top pick the top pick may not be from the United States um but in terms of needs on this roster one of the reasons that’s hard that’s a hard question to answer because we don’t know

Who’s going to be back next season correct and um and based on who returns we’ll know what voids need to be filled um as it stands right now this is a complete roster this is a really good team one thing you can always use in the

NBA is perimeter shooting um I was I was um really hoping that a I’m happy with what we have but a a guy like Doug mcder would have been a great fit at the at the trade deadline or in the buyout Market uh with this Minnesota Squad um

You have a great Slasher in Anthony Edwards you have great bigs in Carl Anthony towns and Rudy goar and to add a add a sharpshooter you know into the mix would be nice and so that’s that’s something that I’m sure they’ll keep an eye on uh in the future um we have an

Amazing um you know front office and guys that are really in tune with what the needs are and and how they can fill the voids um and uh and and even as I say Sharpshooter this is the fourth best three-point shooting team in the league in terms of three-point percentage and

If they can keep that going it’s going to help uh for a long postseason run our defense with an elite scorer like an hopefully you get a healthy towns bag Gober is a defensive player of the year for sure this season um they’ve got something special for a long run well

The funny thing you said that 40% from three 63 200 lb Jared McCain out of Duke so a lot of people are saying the point guard out of Duke I looked at three different Publications and they kind of put him there at the 23rd pick to the Timberwolves if it stands where it

Stands um he could be a potential future so he could sit behind Mike connley learn for a couple years and that’s kind of how they’re treating it like a backup quarterback he gets to come in learn from connley maybe be a two-way guy um but if you watch him in the tournament

I’ve been watching it because I got Duke going to the championship vers North Carolina and uh I’m hoping they can knock off Houston uh but I gotta say that sneak hereid from Houston or Sheed from Houston oh my God he is nasty he is he played like every single minute until

He filed out last night that that that Texas A&M game but when you look at Jared McCain he’s smart he’s a dookie he’s a scorer and he also is not selfish because he also has one of the top players on his team uh who’s going to be

A top draft pick most likely out of Duke as well the big Center or whatever he’s a stretch you know three four guy looks like you know every other white tall kid they get at Duke but but he’s he’s smart with the basketball and so Duke to be a

Four seed and playing the way they’re playing clearly it’s McCain you look at his turnover the the scoring ratio it’s high reminds me of a a a quicker tius um and and similar to Trey Jones but but bigger stronger and a little bit better shooter and I think that’s what that’s

Hit 22 I think they say like 22 miles an hour so like going 22 miles how do you stop and say okay let me just fall on top of you like I don’t I don’t know what they wanted in that situation um I do understand it cuz you look at the

Running backs and some of these running backs have gotten uh kind of you know grabbed and rolled up on some of the receivers have gotten their legs broken but every time a a BigTime player gets hurt it is when it changes like we looked at we had Roy Williams on and

Talked about the horse collar now you have the the hip drop like it’s it’s it is it’s for the for the offense to get better also for guys to not get hurt um I would love to see the number of guys that got hurt versus the number of

Tackles that were made that were hip drops and and is it a correlation like is it a ton of guys getting hurt or is this like a one in every 1,000 uh gets hurt which my guess is maybe it’s around that but at the end of

The day it only takes one Tom Brady tuck Ru it only took one like there it Terrell Owens horse collar broke his leg and only took one like it if if somebody gets hurt and people start because I think that happened this season somebody got hurt and everybody on TV he talking

About the hip drop oh look how he he landed on his leg I get it but players are happy but Harrison Smith right it is a business decision they’re trying to keep guys healthy they’re also trying to make this offensive game points in the stands points but butts in the stands

Like not a z00 game or a three- Z game when you score like remember the the what was it the the Raiders Vikings that was a terrible start like that’s one of those where people are like oh my God this is ugly like nobody wants to watch that people

Was your favorite moment of the first four days of the madness run uh it was recently it was the Houston Texas A&M game like that was absolutely Madness because when I was really was watching it I I like I was like oh Houston got this and then all of a sudden I started

Seeing Twitter talking about like Houston what are you doing Houston we have a problem I’m like what so I turn it back on dud absolutely Nails a three takes him to overtime I think Houston had like four guys with four fouls they all start fouling out one by one Texas

A&M had only two guys with four fouls but they start falling out like it it Texas Houston at the end had like a fifth year senior that had not played all year pretty much I think he had attempted they said like two or three free throws the entire season or six

Free throws the entire it was something dumb and this dude had to hit two shots to give them a five-point lead he missed the first which makes it tight but he made the second they go up four and then Texas ANL made the Cardinal S they shot

A deep three instead of taking it to lay it up because if you take it to lay it up now you’re down two and what happened the guy the next time they followed him the guy missed the free throw so they’re like see now now Texas would have been

Down three so that’s why you always take the points if you can if they’re giving you the layup take the layup and just keep extending the game don’t try to get it all back in one shot and that’s what take and it was a horrible shot it was

Like from the Caitlyn Clark low go he air balled it it was just bad but that that to me was that was a big moment for me I don’t know what was yours probably Oakland over Kentucky and Jack gki who I think was the star of the

Week um he got like a turbo attack sponsorship because he hit 10 threes against Kentucky and all he does is shoot threes he had like seven two-point shots all year um that was that was great 355 shots eight of them were twos that’s dumb that’s Oakland Golden Grizzlies

Ranked Now 23 after what three or four free agents so they’re they’re going to keep them there until they decide you know is JJ McCarthy the guy or is Drake May the guy uh people are all talking about trading up um so yeah so that that

That fits it I’m not going to be mad about it I get it it’s it’s it’s a quarterback driven ranking anyway so the teams with the best quarterbacks getting the top 10 and then everybody else unless you have a top like like like the Ravens for instance you know back when

They had the top defense they were up there because of their defense the legion of boom was up there because of their defense the Rams when they had Jaylen Ramsay and Aaron Donald um sometimes your defense can get you up there as well Vikings don’t have a like

Name of names number one def defense and they don’t have a quarterback so well they do have Sam darno but they don’t have a guy everybody can you know lean on and so that’s where they’re going to be they going to be down there until you

Win some games or you get a rookie in and he shows the world he’s the next Brock py um but yeah that that’s I don’t know what were your thoughts when you saw that makes sense I until they get a quarterback they’re going to be in the

Bottom 10 in the league and maybe that’s a good place to be is to be under the radar the Vikings teams have typically performed better when No One Believes In them well we we talked about Michael Grady earlier in the show like the Vikings used to be the hunted at one

Point you know when they were the number one team in NFC North for a while for not a while but you know couple what two seasons maybe three seasons um they were the hunted so that means every team was coming out giving them their best um now

They can hunt you go go look for people people when you’re the hunted you got to look at forward and you gotta Look Backwards inside and left and right when you’re the hunter which they are now because nobody believes in them just got to shoot shoot forward shoot your best

Shot every game you show up so it’s a good place to be because if they lose nobody’s expecting them to win if they win everybody’s like whoa this defense is pretty good this offense can can still like go but I think it’s it’s going to be for sure drafting a

Quarterback so once we get the quarterback we’ll see what that looks like in training camp in OTAs mini camp rookie mini camp uh getting a first round quarterback I think is going to bring a ton of Buzz to all the camps this year you know rookie mini camp OTAs

Everybody’s going to want to know like how’s the rookie doing that’s what that’s that’s where I think it gets back to a media frenzy uh when you get a first round quarterback in the top probably 11 but could be in the top five and and if you go top

Five I just hope Kevin okono has a plan because you don’t wanna you don’t you could end up with Bryce young you could you could end up getting hurt getting hurt Anthony Richardson or you could end up with CJ stra you just never know but I’m Ron Johnson that’s Sam X thank you
