Over it like I got to get over the the PTSD the the not believing in James Harden the Paul George skepticism the the fear of kawhai getting hurt I got to just to appreciate what’s happening because I was like man if we end up actually winning it all if

We end up actually winning the whole thing I’m going to not have enjoyed the whole 82 game ride I’m going to regret that and I guess that was my first mistake and again just like it always goes the second you start believing with this Clipper team it always comes

Crashing down so maybe now as I’m losing belief there’s one twist left in the tail for us to turn it around we’re going to have to do it with a couple of things a couple of things need to change the first one is James Harden now here’s why I’m going with James over

Anyone else kawhai Leonard he needs to be better and I’ll talk about him more as the episode continues Paul George I think we’ve we’re going to talk about him as well but we have really gotten on him and beaten the dead horse about his inconsistencies but the last eight or

Nine games he is starting to play better is he going going to need to take it to a different level to close this season end in the postseason absolutely an extra level higher but to me the biggest fallof between December and January and now is James Harden because James Harden

Was playing at a level that we were saying he might be the second best player on this team he was carving defenses apart every night he was feasting on the fact that oh the best two Defenders on the other team are going to be guarding kawhai and Paul I’m

Going to be able to create whatever wanted pick and roll in an isolation and I’m going to have the effect that I have on teams which is I’m a pick and roll God I can score 20 any night maybe even 30 and I can drop you 10 assists in my

Sleep every night and he was coming in playing solid defense you know crushing all the allegations of he doesn’t play defense at all which I always said was ere exaggerated I’ve always said he’s a good post Defender and he has good hands but he has poor foot speed and is lazy

And we were getting the good version of James Harden defensively in those months that mixed with the fact that he was just rolling we had everybody talking about he’s the system he’s taken this team to a level that we had never seen it felt like for me and I kid you not it

Felt like it takes so much for us to lose I was starting to get that confidence heading into games as a fan like oh my God it’s going to just take so much for us to lose because we have so much talent we have three stars James Harden is a

Star well let me tell you what James Harden’s been doing statistically in the last 15 games and this doesn’t even account for his off his defense 16 points five rebounds nine assists those points are a little down but the splits the shooting splits 40% from the field and 31 from three this is

A guy that at one point of the season was shooting 46% from the field and 42% from three he’s still shooting a career high from the foul line and from three which is great but it’s because he started the season so well shooting the three James is shooting 40% from three if you

Round up 39.6 so he’s no longer over 40% that’s still his career high shooting the ball from three which is amazing but it’s about right now what have you done for me lately in the sense that this is the way that we’re playing at this moment he is not playing well he’s not

Shooting well he’s not guarding and I think a lot of it is and I I said this over and over it’s going to be hilarious looking back at the episode post games because I kept saying and people in the comments I’m not some genius figuring this out everybody’s been thinking about

It we were playing James Harden a lot throughout the season and what’s the point of having a Russell Westbrook if we’re not going to use him because it became a thing where we had the James hard and Russ can’t play together situation for a minute and if you’re

Going to play James hard in 30 plus minutes that every Star gets in the NBA then Russell Westbrook there’s only about 16 or fewer minutes for him to get and the thing is James Jam Harden was playing so well that it didn’t really matter but then eventually we started to

See okay Russ and James Harden can play together which we know they’ve played together in the past but when they have Paul George and kawhai out there that’s when it gets a little wonky because everybody wants the ball guys go out of rhythm getting the ball to Russ to

Initiate it’s the fourth best choice probably out of those three and he’s never uh hesitant to get aggressive Russell Westbrook which is one thing we love about him but also one thing that can hurt him so we kind of went away from playing the big four together

But it would caused a situation where it was tough to just play Russ by himself because Russ with those second units I don’t have any stat on me but it felt like it just wasn’t great it felt like it wasn’t super strong it felt like our

Offense was just not nearly as good as when James Harden was in the game but again one part of that is James Harden’s playing with 213 for extended stretches Russell Westbrook not so much and that definitely affects any stat you’re going to throw at me but I’m just saying from

The eye test it felt like Russell Westbrook could not hold his own without hardening the game for extended stretches and yes I think 213 helps Russ even more than he helps them so but I do think that with Russ in the game it puts

More of an onus on Kawaii and Paul to be aggressive because of his lack of offense as opposed to harden where we lean into his pick and roll but when it’s not going then you’re just taking the ball away from Kawaii and Paul George and I think the biggest difference now is

Harden’s legs they’re wearing on him you know again I don’t know what Harden’s been doing off the court this season but from every story I’ve heard from players and coaches and media is that Harden he lives breathes and sleeps basketball and having fun and it’s tough to balance

That with the way he play so on ball heavy minutes throughout the course of his season throughout his career and you know he’s on the older side he’s had injuries he just he’s still a very serviceable and good player but he’s not been playing at an All-Star

Level the last 15 to 20 games and it’s because he’s not getting by anyone he’s not turning the corner with the same burst that he was early in the season I remember I was even asking Harden fans is he moving better than he has the last three years and they were saying yeah

And I just caught up to him the age and it’s scary that he’s had such a healthy season and it’s happening right now we need some kind of Rejuvenation we need to hopefully see him get his legs back because we traded for him you know we

Put our eggs in this guy the system and right now he’s not creating the same looks on pick and rolles and I think when we play the good teams they figured out that you put a good point of attack defender on him and a good drop big and

You don’t leave the shooters so you make them play Two on Two And you start to see Harden doesn’t usually love taking the mid-range he does that little step back mid-range and I think it’s fairly efficient I don’t have the numbers on it but I think it’s fairly

Efficient but he doesn’t love doing it and often times he’ll neglect the mid-range he’ll pull it back out and take more time off the shot clock and stagnate The Possession I think he’s also just been getting the ball across slower not getting into our stuff as fast constantly asking for a rescreen he

Doesn’t turn the corner then he backs it back pulls it back out and asks for another screen that’s been happening a lot more the last couple of months and then not shooting the catch and shoot three with you know as much he’s been hesitating more that’s

What I what I was looking to say he’s been hesitating more he hasn’t been just shooting it super willingly when he catches the ball when he’s open it’s a lot been a lot more hesitation it’s been a lot more thinking a lot so we need the best version of James and then the

Defense has just fallen off and it’s been the James Harden defensively that everybody grills him for being you know not fighting one-on-one being lazy off the ball transition I mean the guy is you know the worst thing he does is when he’ll take that step back three after a bunch

Of dribbles he’ll hold his follow through and of course he he jumps forward on every single one looking to get a foul a lot of times and then his guy that contests him will leak out I bet you it’s on scouting reports at this point leak out and he’ll just still be

Watching his Miss and they’ll beat him down the floor and they’ll score that’s very infuriating so I don’t know and then the other option people teams do is when they will sag off a shooter and they’ll make him throw that skip pass he makes it most of

The time but sometimes you can get an occasional turnover and then also at The Rim when he’s challenging a big man in like a little two-on-one situation where the big is playing two guys at once he’s not really he can’t really get off the ground the same way which I said before

We even got him and you’re starting to see him get blocked not get clean layups off so we need the best version of James Harden there’s no doubt about it he’s still having a good season an All-Star caliber season but we’re going to need some kind of Rejuvenation here do I

Think it’s coming probably not I think he still has some big games in the cards though in the playoffs I don’t think he’s going to be a play badly every game he’s going to have some good games but to go all the way I never really did

Fully believe but I’m hoping for the best right he’s on my team I’m hoping for the best come on James I uh I think you can do it I think you can turn it around coming up though going to be talking about Pride what we’ve been lacking a lot of

Pride tyo and certain fans keep saying that the Clippers just being lazy they’ve gotten too comfortable you know you know the first red flag was when Kawai said we just want to get in the top six because before that it felt as though we were trying to get number

One and tyo kept saying throughout the off season and early in the season we’re trying to attack every game and get as high a seat as we can and see where the chips fall when it’s all said and done in the regular season but when Kawai

Said we just looking to get top we just got to get top six that’s different that’s not prior and Lawrence Frank did say historically you look before the season you know Champions are top seeds top six is not the top seed you don’t have home court advantage in the first

Round that’s not a top seed so I realized then something had changed and I don’t think it’s honestly a lack of trying and laziness I think that’s at times a thing and there’s been plenty of games at this point now where the Clippers have dogged it

But I think they’re just tired I think they’ve been worn out we’ve used the same nine guys all season because it seemed like we found something early we found something really good early but we didn’t really think to preserve which is funny we went the opposite direction of

Load management but you know what that shows me I’m not super mad at that part as the fact that it’s just more disappointing that look our three best players are 32 plus years old and I looked at historically what teams have won championships like that

Only the 98 Bulls come to mind 32 and over because by 97 Pippen was 31 and the best three players being over 32 if I thought the 08 Celtics but no Pierce was 31 when they won an ‘ 08 it’s tough and the other one had Jordan Rodman and

Pippen in an established culture like it’s totally different we’re old and it’s a younger League now than it was in 98 and even when I started watching basketball in 2006 it’s much younger a lot more one and duns a lot more opportunity for young players not a league built on vets

Anymore it’s a different kind of thing it’s a speed and up and down league as opposed to a physical toughness League that it was in the 2000s and late 90s so yeah Mor of the story I think as a team we do have to show more Pride

Years does it look like we have any chance of beating that right now I think we’re old I think we’re old but I’m not going to say we’re cooked because when that playoff uh schedule comes out and you everything in the past is kind of erased

Everyone starts out zero and zero in the playoffs you’re in the big dance and you got a one out of 16 chance to win an NBA title it’s a mental Rejuvenation that will translate to your body but we need to show a sense of Pride as this season comes to a

Close because if we just walk into the playoffs playing our worst basketball this season we are getting smoked we are getting smoked cuz there’s nobody right now to me that’s in the top eight slots even nine if you want to get the Lakers involved that is playing worse

Basketball than we are even if you want to go top 11 Warriors fans can debate it because the Warriors are a little suspect to me but they’ve been playing a little better lately we’re playing the worst basketball of any team involved in the postseason conversation in the west

But for a while we actually didn’t see a statistical drop off and we were one of the best halfcourt defenses in the league and a lot of that was because well we’re starting Terence Mann he was doing a pretty good job at the point of attack guarding the best players James

Harden was holding his own on switches zubot was great protecting the rim and kawh Le and Paul George ended up taking more of a defensive burden whether it be kawhai guarding fours or kawhai guarding good players same of Paul George and we were doing an amazing job and then you

Had air coffee playing more minutes he’s a solid Defender and Daniel Ty was better than Mason plumbley and mixed with that Russell Westbrook was also playing at a level in which at one time of the season they were talking about all defense I think that was an exaggeration but the fact

That that was even in the air you could see how Hardy was going and a considerable drop off when he was told that he would no longer qualify based on minutes so that was rough but we were playing pretty decent defense now I think it’s normal that it’s not

Sustainable to defend at that level for the course of the season which was one of my biggest question marks about trading for Harden and giving PG and kawhai more of a defensive load because I’ve always felt as though getting defensive guys around them to preserve them for offense was the best case and

Then have them guard at the end of games when they need to but we instead gave them less of an offensive load by bringing in Harden and kind of increased their defensive responsibilities but my fear was could they do it throughout the course of a season and you’re starting to see it’s

Taking its toll it’s definitely taking its toll um I think the clipper at the same time have still been lazy defensively they’re terrible in transition right they don’t do a good enough drop at the point of attack and they’re literally just small in the front court so when Zoo gets draw drawn

Out of the paint that backside protection that low man help is not always a very intimidating fella so let’s talk about what needs to change right I talked about Pride there needs to be a sense of let’s get our acts together individually defensively that would lead to Collective success here’s here’s what

I mean by that let’s start from the top point guard James Harden he needs to get back to the way he was defending by the way so just for statistical purposes we’re the second worst defense in the NBA since the All-Star break worst in the league with Harden on the court defensive rating

Wise right so listen this I think James Harden needs to be the defender that he was early on in the season and I think a lot of it is always effort with James definitely part of it is legs wear and tear throughout the season because we saw it the last

Two seasons but he also had some some injuries although the Philly injury was earlier in the season but then he started getting some stuff later at the same time is it’s just fatigued too he’s older and this you know they were talking about his shoulder this season

It just happens the last three years it has happened that way but the 2022 season he was particularly roughl looking I think he hadn’t really fully recovered from that hamstring these last two seasons he’s definitely been better than 20122 but same theme towards the end now I think

We will get a better version of James defensively to start the playoffs I really do I think it’ll reinvigorate him and he’s going to play harder but I think we’ll see this James Harden when things start going rough for him offensively and in like probably elimin elimination game situations I really do

But he’s got to try his best now Terren man even more so with him he’s guarding the point of attack and he’s been getting Fried by basically everybody he’s guarded recently as I’ve said for a couple of episodes now I don’t remember the last time I’ve said that Terren had

A good defensive game he’s actually been better offensively since the All-Star break he needs to show a little bit of a higher level of toughness and physicality defensively like we know he can he isn’t the best defender on a championship team on a best point of attack defender on a championship team I

Don’t think he should be he should be just one of the guys that can guard we’ve given him that responsibility he needs to be better defensively Point Blank end the story or else we’re we’re screwed how about zubot he needs to be more consistent commanding more physical I know what the body language

What zoo what zoo were getting based on his body language I haven’t seen the zoo that thinks he’s an absolute wall at the paint and a top 10 to 15 starting center in the NBA in a long time since before the injury he needs to get back to that

Kawhai and Paul Paul George needs to get back to thinking he’s like an all Defense level player he constantly talks about he’s a two-way player he likes playing D likes getting after it on his podcast let me see it every game let me see it every game from this point

Forward guard the ball and sit in the chair for four quarters kawh Leonard and communicate for four quarters kaai he’s the one that for the on defense he does not disappoint me as much as anyone else but I will say this and this goes to tyo as

Well but there needs to be a level of we don’t just switch everything so soft anymore we need to switch a little more selectively don’t just give other teams the opportunity to switch Norman pal and James hard onto their best player I think that’s just foolish keep Kawai and Paul George on

These guys keep teren man and Mir coffee on these guys show a level of toughness as a coaching staff and as a team Kawai needs to speak up and then let’s talk about offensively cuz that was where we made our money early on in the season

Was we were in an explosive offense a top two offense in the league we’re fourth in offensive rating this season still but we were at first and second for a large stretch and again that comes from James Harden pick and roll when his pick and roll is not there he doesn’t do anything

Off the ball and when he’s not a willing catch and shoot player where’s he offering value so here are some stats I got Co why Leonard averages 1.19 points per possession in isolation I don’t think that means just him personally means the team averages 1.19 points per possession when kawh Leonard is

Isolated that is the highest number in the NBA for guys that get more than I believe it was three isos I put per game kawii Leonard is I guess statistically the most efficient isolation player in the NBA so we need to start looking towards kawhai Leonard

I calculated this by the way he has only shot 20 plus times nine times this season and he’s played 66 games that’s kind of unacceptable because he’s one of the most efficient and best scorers in the league and I know he takes it to a different level in the playoffs and he

Should have some accountability for so often being deferring to other guys and playing in the flow of the game and not wanting to step on anyone’s toes this is where kawhai needs to go God mode he’s the most efficient isolation player in the league on the stats

He needs to start shooting 20 plus shots I don’t care that James Harden’s here and wants to get the ball for Pick and rolls screw that I don’t care that Paul George wants to shoot 20 shots he thinks it’s 1 a 1B he doesn’t he admitted it’s

Not it’s time for kawhai to shoot 20 plus times I don’t care that we have a big three screw shot distribution Kawhi Leonard has won a championship and these guys have not and these guys show very uh worrying signs so it’s time for kawh Leonard to start chucking James Harden

By the way so when I say that a lot more post-ups a lot more mid post Kawai anyway James Harden though I found this stat very interesting James Harden averages 1.12 points per possession for the team in isolation that’s the fourth highest in the league so does that mean we

Should do more James hard and isos here’s what I’m going to say there’s always going to be a third best defender in the starting lineup one of them is going to have to be guarding Paul georger James we go at that guy and I think that’s what we normally do but my

Question for those for this statistic is when teams switch the pick and roll and then James Harden isos that probably counts does that count as an ISO it should but does that also count for his pick and roll points per possession statistic I’m not sure but the fact that

Harden is fourth highest in isolation maybe he needs to stop the screen so much and just go one-on-one more I don’t know just just throwing things out there I know it’s funny people are like are you really suggesting more ISO ball we’re nice we built this team around ISO

Players so like what do you think this is not a team built around movement guys PG rarely cuts and moves without the ball outside of sets Kawhi Leonard is a good post-up guy but he’s not a he’s a good off ball player to me but he’s nothing crazy doesn’t always move and

Then Harden doesn’t move at all so you you made the roster a certain way and Ty’s been saying it for years we’re not a movement roster with kawhai and Paul we’re just not um Paul George by the way 1.04 points per possession in ISO which is 10

In the NBA so we have three guys that are in the top 10 in isolation per game points per possession wise so that tells you everything you need to know about our team it’s just it’s again a lot of these people they want to talk about the role

Players doing this and that we need better from our role players but it comes down to our Stars I guarantee you these statistics are you know a lot of it’s weighted from the early start early parts of the Season we’re not we’ve not been as good in isolation

Lately Paul George by the way I thought this was a really stunning stat Paul George averages 1.07 points per possession in pick and roll so that means he averages more points in pick and roll for the team than in ISO but he’s seventh highest in the league in

Pick and roll for guys that run like over two a game that was wild to me kawh Leonard 1.0 flat points per possession and pick and roll which was 19th Harden 99 which is 25th in the league even though ey test wise and not even eye test wise fact James Harden is

Our best pick and roll ball handler that’s not even a debate he is but he averages in in points per possession for the team it’s the lowest in the all lowest out of the big three is interesting and I think that’s very heavily because of these last 20 games

Or so very heavily the pick and rolls have not been getting the same stuff and if he’s not getting that we might need to go away from him for certain stretches of playoff games I’m serious zubot my last stat sorry for throwing all these stats at you I know

It’s not like me but zubats 1.24 points per Poss possession as the pick and roll big so that was a higher number than any of the ones I gave you so that shows you that zubot as the screener gets us good stuff and we usually use him as the

Screener but just throwing it out there and then the highest number of any stat I garnered 1.29 points per possession you want to know what the stat that was for What play type zubot post up remember when I everybody was saying he got no moves he doesn’t do this I’m not

A numbers guy and I’m not going to be that numbers don’t lie guy cuz numbers do not pay full picture but for someone that’s saying zubot can’t post up my eye test doesn’t tell me that and the stats don’t either so talk to both we got a
