You would think that he averages prime Harden numbers based on how r/nba describes his whistle

Why do people constantly say that Reaves has a prime Harden/Trae whistle when he averages below average amounts of FTAs based on his minutes and attempts at the rim?

Do people think he’s a jump shot/spot up 3 player? I’m convinced people don’t actually watch him play, he attacks the rim as much as LeBron, lol

Best to quit caring about what r/nba thinks on the matter. This talking point, as dumb as it is, will never go away until (a) our stars no longer do 80% of their damage in the restricted area and/or (b) we play a wildly different style of defense.

His reputation was based off of last season. Same with AD’s steetclothes reputation. And also it was more about the visuals than anything. From the way players describe Kyrie Irving you would think he’s been a top 10 player for ten years in a row.

  3. I mean it was a thing last season lol. But not anymore, and yet he still maintains similar averages which is remarkable

The nba subreddit is unusable if ur a lakers fan lol you’re just gonna get jumped by a bunch of loser ass fanbases spouting nonsense

He doesn’t flop like Embiid and and harden. He actually gets fouled. Embiid is the worst flopping big man I’ve ever seen. But he the NBA / Refs have already decided he’s going to get free throws so he consistently gets a lot . It’s like a quota they have to fill. He’s an all star but his acceptable offensive flopping have made him into a superstar

Austin was a master at it last year but this year he started not getting ANY whistle even when he gets fouled right in front of the refs faces.

And I honestly dont care about this narrative in the nba imo, the players are only taking advantage of the rules that are set up..

AUSTIN WAS NEVER A FOUL BAITER. Him stopping on the dime and using the defender’s momentum against themselves is just smart basketball

It’s so weird to me that some of you guys care so much about what r/nba thinks lmao. Y’all try so hard to disprove them like to really matters. Once people have their minds made up it doesn’t matter what you say.

90% of that sub watches 3 Laker games a year, and sees what some beat reporter writes and takes it as end all be all. Austin just picks the moments correctly, especially against Memphis which he kept doing yesterday. Times when to pick up the ball and when the body contact is going to happen. Harden would just hook players arms as he’s driving and yell to “draw” the foul.

Austin Reeves is a smart player and when the situation presents itself, he can draw contact. But he doesn’t always get the whistles even tho he probably draws more contact them Harden.

He’s 50th in the league on attempts and 38th in minutes—narrative makes no sense this season.

Whistle and free throws aren’t the same thing.
