We need to be better because we were just leaving shooters open

The Clips are load managing on the court. Saving energy for the Playoffs. The defensive intensity and communication will be better come Playoff time.

Every team is ‘hot’ ftom 3 against us. Maybe we’re part of the problem, eh? We give up lots of open looks.

I actually did the math on this, and our opponents over the last 20ish games have been shooting far above average on both wide open and open threes, with us allowing about the same amount of both in that period when compared to our 26-5 period.

Shooting variance is a very real thing, no it’s not the single reason why we’ve been struggling lately but it’s no doubt been a big factor.

Its pretty clear we are playing at 85% capacity for most of the game, we could easily blow out these teams by 25+ but whats the point, a win is a win

Biggest long term issue for us is not paying attention to the corner three. Charlotte was unusually hot but the poor rotations leading to a lot of open corner shooters has been an issue for most of the season.

im still not worried. the playoffs is a whole new season.

It’s been proven time and time again that defenses don’t impact 3pt% THAT much and this is probably just poor opponent shooting luck. You impact attempts more than you do 3pt%, and our lazier closeouts lately is resulting in an increase in attempts. I don’t think it’s been impacting the percentages that much.

This stat is twisted a bit in the sense that bad teams were just chucking 3s and they went in.

Although maybe drop coverage isn’t the gameplan going forward this is on ty lue. He gotta decide if clippers wanna leave zubac on an island and play ice with the corners being played tight.

Or maybe hedge but ty lue gotta switch up that gameplan. It’s not like the Clippers are leaving players wide open they’re coming off high PnR screens and shooting 3’s. Either that or baseline help D to a corner 3. They are also closing hard on the 3. It’s not like we’re leaving them wide open.

One of the issues has been Coffey is playing too much and has been our worst rated defender this season. Mann and Harden have also not been great perimeter defenders.
