Anfernee Simons In-Game Interview | Portland Trail Blazers vs. Orlando Magic | April 1

The man from Edgewater High School right here in Orlando Florida is with us I’m of course referring to Anthony Simons hello ant how you doing doing good is is it fun to be back in your hometown a lot of demand for tickets and so forth and

To be seen and see folks yeah always for sure um obviously it means a little more obviously because we you know we willing to make it make it over here once once a year so um no it’s always good to see family Anthony is is are there as many

People here today even without you playing as there would be if you were playing in a game um I think there’ be a little bit more we still got a lot man my mom got a sweet so that’s I you know yeah they showing up they showing up

Regardless if I’m playing or not they just want to see me yeah that’s what I figured all right so when you come home is your a favorite meal does does your mom do the cooking or does she cater it she my mom my mom and my grandma do the

Cooking so they cooked yesterday um get over there after what do you have what did we miss come on mac and cheese collar green baked beans cornbread my mom put some uh chicken on the grill that’s always great yeah so yeah they went all out sweet potato pie

I’m guessing some yams okay okay sound like Thanksgiving right right now was she doing it like that when she lived up in Portland with you um not as much obviously but um you know obviously whenever whenever I request it you know I mean I don’t try to request it all the

Time um but when I request it she most of the time does it every time so um and then obviously my Grandma makes great mac and cheese so she isly doing it every time she gets a chance so um I’m happy that you know she was able to she

Made me two pans so that was great okay look speaking of your family anony I know your family and you heavily involved with your be light Foundation here in this area what what are some of the things you guys have been able to do through your foundation here in your

Hometown um just do little things like you know mean bads backpack giveaways um you know scholarship opportunities as well um you know whe it was anything most of about you know one of the things I’m most proud of is just the grab batch um you know you know event that we throw

Each and every um each and every year at the local Parker in my in my old neighborhood um you know it just it doesn’t matter what age it is we’re celebrating you know them you know achieving something very you know special no M no matter what it is no

Matter if you’re going from pre to kindergarten yeah or kindergarten of first grade you know I mean we all celebrating and you know we give give show them a good time give give him a couple things you know um know a couple gifts and then you know just celebrate

It you know I mean that’s one of the things that I feel like is underappreciated is you know getting to certain steps in your life especially at an early Age speaking of which uh early steps uh coming into this league and you had the Good Fortune obviously to play behind an Allstar an icon a superstar are coming into the league address a little bit how how difficult it is coming into the league particularly uh in reference to scoot

What he’s going through when obviously there are so many high expectations for him right to play at such a young age you know obviously you know it’s a different perspective you know what I mean you got to put yourself kind of in his in scoot shoes because I wasn’t you

Know what I mean put in a lot of expectations on me I didn’t I I knew I wasn’t about to play um that much in my first year and um I just had to learn so like I said at the beginning like school’s kind of been thrown into the

Fire you know I mean regardless you know what I mean he’s he’s handling it very well throughout the year he’s getting better um that’s one of the things that you kind of you know tip your head off to him is that no matter what up and

Down he stayed the same I mean he still the same teammate he had the same worth that exed and then um you know I mean he just stayed true to himself so um you know he going to continue to get better because that’s just the person he is you

Know I mean he going to continue to stve to be the great great a great player and um that’s all we ask for him you know what I mean we know it’s going to be up and downs I had up and downs when I first started playing you know I mean my

Second and third year and um you know this going to be challenging times but you know you as soon as you get over the hump and you see all the stuff you you know you went through at the beginning you appreciate a lot more well it’s been

A tough year for you obviously starting off with the injury in the first game after 20 some minutes and then being out for 18 it it it just seemed to throw everything everything out of kilter no for sure um like you said you know getting hurt in the first game is not

Ideal um but like I said back then I just it gave me a you know a different perspective on how the game should be played and how I want to come in when I did start playing how I wanted to play um and how it’s going to help the team

Um be successful so um you know it kind of changed throughout you know throughout the whole you know Season trying to figure out you know what’s best for the team and what’s you know what’s best to uh you know continue for us to get better as a team and what I

Can do to you know a tribute to that and um you know it just been a you know a constant Learning lesson for me as well you know I mean a new a new kind of role for me um and I’m just trying to take a

Game by game and trying to get better and um you know just trying to communicate with my teammates on you know what helps me and what what I can do to help them as well so um like I said it’s been it’s been a very good

Learning year for me and I’m you know I’m going to look back on it and as a team we’re going to look back on it and know we going we’re going to appreciate these times hey and I thought uh tonight’s game was important from the standpoint of you lose by 60 points in

Miami a couple of nights ago that was distasteful I think to everybody that was involved it was vitally important to come out and give a great effort tonight and boy have we seen it from the Blazers here to start things off no for sure they playing hard they get stopped um

They you know they executing a scouting report and um that’s all you want you know what I mean like those next games is all almost about Pride at that point I remember when we lost we lost B to OKC next time we play OKC we knew like we

Got to we got to show some pride in this game and we made it a game throughout the whole time until you know obviously at the end um but you want to see that you know what I mean obviously with a team like this and how they going

Respond to a game like that are we going to fold or we going we going to ride to the occasion yep all right well we know uh where the uh after game meal is tonight you proba probably got plenty of food left so we’re coming on it’s okay

All all right thanks man appreciate it you forc the man he was serious about that we’re press him it’s an invite
