I know that we’re getting really close to the playoffs in the NBA but for some teams their offseason is going to start here in the next couple of weeks and this particular offseason even though we had a quiet trade deadline player movement stuff like that’s been a little

Quiet recently I think for a variety of reasons this offseason is going to be absolutely fascinating and a team I want to start with is a team that we’ve actually been talking about a lot on the channel lately um and that’s the Houston Rockets because a very interesting situation has developed suddenly in

Houston where uh they’re going to have the opportunity to to maybe be better next year than they thought initially and there’s some questions flying around right now about kind of what the roster is going to look like because of how well Jaylen green has been playing lately and the possibility of them

Making the play and what that would mean uh you know for the future this roster first and foremost it gives you some ideas about maybe getting rid of some of the veteran guards van Fleet and Brooks uh guys they signed a big contracts if they wanted to have a little bit more

Flexibility turn those guys into something else more interestingly though there’s been some like alran shenon trade rumor Buzz out there now to be fair to be clear I don’t think aler shenon is actually going to get traded Oka has said that Jaylen green playing better and the Rockets playing better

Since shenon got hurt has nothing to do with shenon it’s just a different style of play they’ve been playing him in Thompson and Jabari Smith at the five more since shenon went out and certainly it has helped them but he has said publicly like they love shangu D okay

All that’s fine but when you play as well as Houston has and it has been in part because guys have been playing other positions been Thompson jaari Smith playing the five and that of course is where Al shenon would end up being playing it does create an interesting situation for Houston where

Maybe there is the possibility of them at least looking at what Shang gun’s value would be around the league other teams being interested in shenon I don’t think that’s necessarily you know going to happen but I do think there’s going to be some conversations especially depending on how Houston uh you know

Kind of finishes the year potentially in the playin or the playoffs and just in general that is a roster that I keeping an eye on this offseason speaking of a roster I’m keeping an eye on the Golden State Warriors the team that Houston is chasing down trying to make the play in

And try and kick them out of the playoffs entirely regardless of what happens in the play in as the recording this video we don’t know what’s going to happen yet um it’s clear that some decisions are going to have to be made in Golden State this offseason and

Primarily those decisions are going to revolve around uh Klay Thompson and and some of these other you know big contracts they have on the books Andrew Wiggins Draymond Green and the concept of of potentially moving on from some of these guys now clay himself is a free

Agent he’s the most likely guy to not be on the roster next year and I think is a is a very interesting free agent possibility for a variety of different teams Orlando is a team that I continue to mention because I think clay would be perfect there as a floor spacer they’ve

Already got the creators there around him um and just kind of bringing a veteran presence there and I don’t think that it’s crazy now to think that Golden State just lets clay walk this offseason maybe they move the Andrew wig contract I mean they’re one of the most expensive

Rosters in the entire league and if they don’t even make the playoffs if they don’t even make the play in if they get swept in the first round or they win one game in the first round ownership in the front office is going to look around and

Say hey like what are we doing here like why are we spending so much money on a team that just isn’t successful on the level that we want them to be and there’s definitely going to be some conversations some tough conversations had about what the future of the Golden

State Warriors looks like from a roster perspective and I think clay Draymond Wiggins all these guys are going to be on the table this offseason obviously Klay is a free agent and the other two guys as trade possibility I just find it hard to believe that Golden State’s

Going to go in next year and just run it back with this group and pay a ton of money again for a team that clearly is not on the level you want them to be now to be fair they won the title two years ago but this season has been more

Indicative than ever of a team that is just not built to compete over the next couple of Seasons next story line to talk about here I think the Trey young stuff in Atlanta is going to get very very real this off season um he’s been injured for a little while and it’s not

Like the Hawks have looked you know crazy fantastic or anything but I think it’s clear that like the jonay Murray Could Be You Know their best guard there and they could still be decent or de Jon Mur could get them some value to another team and I I just think it’s clear to

This point that like Atlanta is less connected to Trey young as like the guy leading their franchise moving forward than they’ve ever been in the past and I also think that there are teams that would be you know kind of desperate to add someone like Trey young to their

Roster San Antonio comes to mind trying to add a guard alongside Victor wanyama the the concept of those two guys running pick and roll stuff is really interesting uh the Lakers are always going to be involved with Trey young stuff as well it seems like that’s something that continues to get

Mentioned and whether it happens or not whether the Hawks actually decide to move on the conversation is going to be had they’re going to look around the league and see what the value for him would be because it’s clear that whatever Direction they’re going in is not necessarily going to lead to you

Know Conference Finals contention with this version of the roster with Trey young leading it whether it be trading away both de Jon Marie and Trey young whether it be just trading away Trey young or whether it be just having the conversation and at least thinking about

It Atlanta is a very interesting team to keep an eye on this off season because there’s just a lot of stuff that could change for them another team kind of in the same boat here is the Cleveland Cavaliers with Donovan Mitchell because there’s some rumors going around right

Now about not even rumors I mean the the the team has come out and said oh we’re confident that he’s going to sign an extension this summer and the N of Mitchell saying I don’t know I don’t know what my decision is going to be not really focused on that right now which

To me means it it it’s just going to get weird for Cleveland in the offseason because I don’t think Donovan Mitchell is going to sign the extension I think that even if he does return to Cleveland it would be within the context of signing a new extension the following

Off season and he’s just going to take the opportunity to be a free agent and he knows that is going to make the money just to have some of that flexibility I think would be something that he would look forward to right and if he doesn’t sign the extension Donovan Mitchell is a

2025 free agent there’s nothing Cleveland can do about that I mean they could trade him but there’s nothing they can do from a contract perspective unless Donovan Mitchell agrees to sign an extension and they’re going to go into the year with a lot of pressure on them assuming Donovan Mitchell is still

On the team I think there’s going to be conversations depending on how Cleveland does in the postseason this year I’ve talked about this in the past where like a lot of what happens for them in the offseason and for Donovan Mitchell still being on the roster in the future

One-year deal and kind of the teams that he could go to is very uh restrictive because he could just leave in a year anyway or you could go throughout the year and potentially lose Donovan Mitchell for nothing in the following off season and whether or not he signs

Conversation and in a universe in which the Clippers don’t give James Harden a giant contract what team is paying James Harden a ton of money he’s still very good but clearly there’s reservations about giving him a ton of money about making him a primary part of your team

About you know him getting older obviously it just creates a situation where you would just assume that they would be a big market for someone like James Harden and the Clippers would potentially have to compete with that with their contract offer I’m not convinced that would be the case

Especially depending on how they perform in the playoffs and that is a team that obviously they’re going into a new building they’re very motivated to make sure the team is good next year but their roster could look dramatically different next year if which is definitely a possibility they have a

Disappointing postseason run and I feel like that’s one that people certainly aren’t talking about enough and there are more headlines there are more story lines we got to talk about the draft we got to talk about all kinds of stuff once the offseason really gets going but

I felt like kind of we needed a bit of a primer for the offseason right we needed to start thinking about some of these headlines some of these big names some of these big moves that could possibly happen and there’s a lot of stuff potentially on the table and I I think
