The Nuggets coaching staff failed on the last possession of the game.
Let me explain.
There’s 5 seconds in the game. Everyone expects the ball to go to Jokic. Clips staff are obviously going to put Tucker on him since they want someone who is faster than him to keep him from beating the defender and making it into the lane.
So what does this mean, this means Jokic is not going to outrun his defender and make it into the lane, so he has to chuck up some prayer of a shot.
The rest of the team is just standing around the 3pt line watching Jokic.
Coaching staff should have drawn up a play where they are running some sort of play to give Jokic another option. They should be running a double screen for MPJ or KCP. Or something of that sort. There should be a backup plan.
But obviously coaching staff did not draw up anything, since everyone just stood and watched.
Not saying it would have won the game, but if there is some sort of offball action, it gives Jokic options. Might have a wide open shot from someone else. They might have missed it, but it would have been better than a prayer.

They should have called a timeout when the rebound was made so they could actually advance the ball and run a play
I’m not as moved by it bc it was still more than enough time
Talking from 4 seconds to about 9 he got the shit off with plenty of time with 4 seconds I get how advancing it would help but I also have a feeling they didn’t want OT was gonna be a 3 pointer whole way and ball was going to be in Jokic’s hands regardless
It’s frustrating because it was so obvious to take a timeout on immediate rebound
I almost got baited by the child’s post
Blame Mikey boy for getting his dumb ass ejected. Buck stops with him.
They rather lose than play overtime obviously. Gordon could’ve cut and ally-oop it.
They either have to call the TO immediately or wait till the team dances the ball. Having to pass the ball back court is what really crushed them
I hate the strategy of force the ball to Jokic and have him heave a desperation shot. Be a professional basketball team and run a play. Plenty of time for a couple passes, off-ball screens, anything is better than black-hole ball. Sometimes it has to be someone like Gordon taking the open 3. Or MPJ rolling to the basket. Mix it up. At least keep the other team guessing.
I’m hoping the coaches are just keeping it vanilla right now so they don’t give away their creative masterpiece game-winning plays they’re saving for the playoffs.
Different story had he hit this shot. Was it a terrible possession? Yeah.
But it was Jokic against single coverage for the win over PJ Tucker.
