Discussing the San Antonio Spurs new NBA Arena

  1. The spurs do not need a new area. Their current arena was built in 2000. If the arena is privately funded, fine, but NO PUBLIC MONEY SHOULD BE USED FOR A NOT NEEDED NEW ARENA!!!!

  2. Well, onlt the best facility in the League will do once Mr. Wembanyama starts raising Trophies, lol! Honestly, why do they need a new Arena? I can see the location deal but as far as the aesthetics if you want to build a new Arena with YOUR money then be my guest but come on now, this is 2024 and you know they are looking for "freebies"! I do love Victor Wembanyama!

  3. Another benefit in the Spurs building a new arena is no more rodeo road trips. The current arena can be kept and used during the rodeo. The biggest reason for a new arena is TO MAKE MORE MONEY. Saying that they want a new arena because of how the arena looks outside is a reach. If that was an issue, they could spend money and renovate the Frost Center exterior.

  4. I love Spurs arena interior also always great atmosphere there something that often gets lost in new arenas/stadiums.

  5. If San Antonio has such egregious arena concerns, then they should not have built A T & T Center where they did. This is making no sense. I'll support an MLB ballpark downtown, but not a new basketball arena. I would just hate to lose that Institute of Texan Cultures.

  6. MLB is not expanding to Texas anywhere. They have had a 10 year + fight with the O's on moving the Expos to DC. They would have the same fight with Rangers and Astros. They share the rights to Texas, so no San Antonio is not getting MLB unless those two teams agree which is not likely. You can't just put teams in another teams area of influence and broadcast rights. Read City of San Jose v. MLB.

  7. My men's second chance bracket can win a group, it's standing at the 99,5% and has UConn beating Purdue in the Championship

  8. The spurs current arena is perfectly functional what a stupid idea. And if there’s a new mlb team it needs to be in Austin. They are one of the fast growing city’s and they don’t even have a single pro sports team. That would only makes sense

  9. This is how it’s going down according to rumors within the city (yes I have connections with city officials)

San Antonio will gift the spurs the land and help build the new arena and will try to lure an MLB stadium (new owners include Nolan Ryan, David Robinson, Manu Ginobili — spurs connection again) and the current frost bank center will be given to UTSA and will create a rodeo district aka the San Antonio Stockyards.

San Antonio will do ANYTHING to help the spurs and with Manu/David as owners. They’re going to get what they want.

  10. The city of San Antonio is not gonna risk and lost its sports teams to Austin. MLB is requiring most minor league team to update or build new ballparks. And the Alamodome is getting small renovations to kept in the Final Four rotation and for the UFL Brahmas.

  11. I live in San Antonio and there isn't even buzz about a new arena. No one is asking for one currently, it's just a few news articles about what could happen.

No one actually wants to pay for it when The current Spurs stadium is still failing you and just got a major renovation a few years ago.

The whole minor league baseball field downtown got shut down by the voters like 10 years ago, as far as taxpayers paying for it.

  12. The spurs arena is relatively new and has a lot of history to it. I don’t think spurs fans would approve of this sudden decision

  13. You are aware Mark Cuban no longer owns the Mavs? Though the new owner does own Las Vegas Casinos.

  14. I understand the downtown Arena might be okay more games and maybe host a NBA All Star game. I heard that MLB is looking for a new city to expand new Major league baseball team that’s gonna mean a 40,000 seat stadium but the San Antonio Missions is not a Major League Baseball team they semi pro team. A Major League Baseball will Commercialize the city much better than the semi pro team here. If it’s not MLB team it will be a waste of time and money.

  15. Frost Bank would not need to get torn down after the Spurs move out. It would still be needed for the rodeo. The rodeo can't move to the new arena.

  16. I live in san antonio and personally I think it's stupid. When built frost bank center supposedly an idea to build a other things around it never did. Downtown is already a mess adding this would make it worse. We have missions a minor league team. I don't know if they ask taxpayers to pay they outta just move to austin. The fools here did same with frost and ask for new mess then to hell with the city.
