I agree you should always emphasize what a player can do rather what he cannot do, but in Lofton's case, I don't believe his skill or lack thereof is what GM's are concerned with but rather his obesity which in time will cause him to become injury prone. So, how can any GM invest in a guy like that except in the short term? Lofton is either going to get into shape or have a very short NBA career.
Lofton was great, but what about another uninspired performance from Keyonte? Dude gets his pocket picked on the regular, dribbles off his foot, throws sloppy passes, and complains to the refs much more than he hustles. Sure, he scores some points, but his attitude looks pretty bad right now. I know it's a losing season, but he isn't showing much heart.
