We would not have been in a position to win 50 games if we didn’t have Lively in the first half of the year, he ended up being such an integral part of our team in his first year which is incredible.
I don’t think it is a wild statement to say that we either would have been a play-in team or out of the playoffs entirely if we didn’t have Lively before the Gafford and PJ trades.

“Lively doesn’t shoot and he doesn’t make decisions as a passer”
I can definitely recall numerous times where Lively has made quick passing decisions from the paint. It was actually something I thought stood out about his game, that he didn’t just panic. Am I completely wrong?

They got our boy at #4, which is higher than a few people I’ve been hearing on NBA Radio lately. And even as a biased Mavs fan that rank seems fair; Wemby, Chet, and Miller have all been amazing (though Chet really shouldn’t count).
Only issue I take with the article is where they downplay his passing. I think, especially as a 19/20 year old, he has made solid decisions passing out of the post. Obviously he’s not Jokic, but he’s not forcing bad shots or constantly throwing the ball away, either.

I don’t want to nitpick a very positive assessment, but what do they mean he doesn’t make great decisions as a passer? I think he’s shown more poise and better decision-making in that short roll passing scenario than I would expect from a rookie center. He’ll be great.

Love to see him at 4, sad its written by someone who doesn’t watch him play.
Because for a rookie center he can pass the ball and make good and quick decisions.-

Jacquez should beat out lively in some rankings honestly, but overall the rankings are fine. The wrote up on lively is innacurate though. Lively doesn’t need to pass with his role in The team, but when he does get offensive glass his outlet passing really shines, and I think he will only get better in that aspect. His shooting is absolutely his biggest weakness right now but we don’t really need him to be a great shooter either, so while he does have that as a weakness for sure I hope he continues to lean more into his strengths and become a monster in the paint.

Lively being possibly the 4th best rookie is amazing. If you take Chet out, you could argue he is the 3rd best pick of the 2023 draft. I fact you could make the argument that he is the 2nd best 20 year old in the league behind Wemby.

This guy is an idiot. Lively is an excellent passer as a Center, especially as a rookie. He has great hands, poise and court mapping while being swamped by defenders that most on even the Mavs don’t have.
He obviously doesn’t have the counting stats for passing because he has absurd FG% when the ball gets to him and it would be inefficient to pass, he plays in a team where he is not in movement or handling a lot by design, he plays as backup for only 18-20 min and our corner shooters are not a strength and can hockey pass out so his passes to them are less amplified.

Im so excited for Lively’s next season. I think he’s gonna be huge.
