If you need any other reason to believe why blocks aren’t the be all end all for someone’s defensive impact just remember that Rudy Gobert has only recorded a single block so far this series.

The Suns guards (Booker especially) are legitimately afraid to attempt a shot at the rim in this series.
Dude must have about 72 “neverminds” so far in the series.

You could easily tell last night when Gobert got called for those 2 fouls and had to sit on the instant impact he makes on defense around the rim.

Also, the fact that part of what lifted the teams defense to where it is. Were his suggestions to the coaching staff on changes to make, and kudos to Finch and the boys for listening to him.

This is why you can’t necessarily judge a cornerback in football based on their interception numbers, because some of the best ones simply never get thrown at. These dudes ain’t even trying to get to the rim because of Rudy.

Blocks mean that your opponent was able to get off a shot

Been VERY impressed with his outside-the-paint defending. Dude really turnt up for this series.

You don’t have to block their shot when you block their willingness to attempt a shot on you. Rudy scares them out of even *an attempt*. DPOY. It’s not even up for discussion.

Underrated and overhated. Misunderstood.
Rudy bringing defense back!

It WAS a pretty fun block though.

Players modify their shooting or straight up pass the ball when they see Rudy to avoid getting blocked. He is intimidating.

The only people, and I mean the only people, who say Gobert is overrated/say wemby should be DPOY are: spurs fans, people that don’t watch Timberwolves games, salty ex-NBA players (boogie) that think they still got it when they clearly don’t. Rudy is the best defender in the NBA, he is everywhere
