This is not unique. KD is more like Michael Jordan, Kyrie Irving, Devin Booker, Steph Curry etc .. etc .. These players are called Specialist, a System based player, Plug and play of sort. He needs an established super stacked from top to bottom teams in order to succeed the most, whether that be home grown or being a mercenary. He needs that structure in order to succeed.
KD is not Lebron who is a floor raiser and a ceiling raiser, who can carry an underdog team into a contender, a system unto himself. So it's not fair to compare him to this archetype because he's different. I think the disappointment mostly come to this. Why can't he do this, the other guy did that so and so ..
