Big win for the other 29 teams in the league

what kind of butterfly effect will follow with this

Regardless of whether a contract extension for Kidd is wise for Dallas, we have to admit that this is the best moment for Kidd to ask for a contract extension

  4. kimoalmoa

Why? Surely it would be better for Mavs to wait till the end of the playoffs, great for Kidd tho

I still don’t think he’s a good coach but ok

  6. lol, not even sure if I am excited or sad about this. Most the fan base wanted him gone for most of the season.

The best players on the team like him and he has had success. I guess that’s better than most situations.

Jason midd keeps getting them checks; also on the heels of the report that lakers might pursue him

Got the extension hecause the lakers are headhunting him

  9. Man you can tell he’s been looking for a solid long term coaching position in the league after retiring from his playing days. You can see him talk about it from like 20 years ago, just look up “Jason Kidd January 19, 2001”

Kidd still infuriates me at times but one thing to be said is his players love him and love playing for him. With the roster additions they’ve made he’s gotten the team to buy in and play defense and it’s really transformed the identity of the team. He still has a lot of room for improvement but I’m not mad at this. I reserve the right to change my mind later though lol

Strange, ngl I thought it’s more apt to discuss any contract extensions after the playoffs

Why is everyone (especially other Mavs fans) shocked about this?

Of course you keep your Championship winning coach.. they’re just doing it in advance. 🏆

Made the second round in 2 of the 3 seasons he’s been the head coach. How many coaches can claim that?

  14. SilentExercise2076

he’s not the same coach he was in MIL (seemingly) and the stars love him, not a bad extension at all.

  15. The coaching pool is pretty shallow rn. They would probably end up getting someone less proven and accomplished. With a team this close to contention their best bet is to stick with him until something drastic happens.

  16. He’s probably not the best coach. In some instances of watching the Mavs play it seems like he’s not fully in tune with what his team should do given the opponent.

That being said, in the Clippers series he had some really nice adjustments in attacking the Westbrook minutes, destroying the soft Zubac with rim rolls and just putting pressure on Harden and PG.

Mavs rely a lot on individual talent so I don’t think Kidd will limit their ceiling too much. Also, when you’re dealing with boneheaded personalities it’s better to go along with the guy that has a track record of appeasing them quite well.

  17. Should we expect an announcement from the Clippers on a Ty Lue extension as well?

Mani hope he does well against the thunder or this will look horrible

  19. I often joke about how the Mavs and Hawks are mirror franchises of one another.

Our resigning of a questionable coach because of his playoff run didn’t end too good for us, but maybe this time will be different for the Mavs.

I don’t like him, but Kyrie and Luka likes him, so Mavs extension it is. Not mad at it, he was never going anywhere regardless of my objections.

  21. subtleshooter

Why do things like this get done before the playoffs? Why not just wait in case everything goes to hell

  22. Lakers fire Ham and all of a sudden coaches are getting extensions. LOL.

  23. devilmaskrascal

As I said on the Mavs sub, I’m not too psyched about this, but Kidd was not going to get fired this offseason anyway after making it out of the 1st round and the way the season ended. The players like him, so all our complaints about his mediocre coaching and passivity at times are going to fall on deaf ears. With the right pieces he can be a good coach. And LAL sniffing around while we’re trying to focus on the playoffs would have been a distraction.

I honestly think most of us Mavs fans judge Kidd by Carlisle’s yardstick and he doesn’t measure up. Carlisle always got the absolute most he could out of even the most marginal rosters. But at the end of the day, team chemistry is extremely important, and Carlisle lost the locker room while Kidd seems to have the players united behind him. As long as Luka and Kyrie are happy and we are winning, Kidd will likely be here. Our only hope is he learns from his mistakes and improves.

I think we could have found an upgrade this summer in all likelihood but there is always risk in rocking the boat when things are working.

highkey think the kidd slander is due to his personal life and that he’s on the naughty person list. he’s a decent overall coach and great player coach

  25. He’s just watching like the rest of us…

Joking aside, most of the flak he took this year came from experimenting with lineups, but that’s ultimately what regular season is for so…

Now they just need toget a quality offensive coach to call timeouts and Dallas is set.
